Chapter 6333
Rachel Getty didn’t anticipate that Charlie would leave so soon, especially with her unfortunate boyfriend still busy running errands for Steve in Chinatown. Her immediate reaction was to think that Charlie was overly arrogant and looked down on everyone. However, upon reflection, she realized that Charlie’s arrogance was somewhat justified; after all, he had the credentials to back it up. Steve was clearly accustomed to being directed by him, not to mention the influential Rothschild family represented by Robert.
Steve, already familiar with Charlie’s casual manner, quickly expressed his respect when he learned that Charlie was leaving. “Would you like to grab a bite before you go? That kid Robert should be back in about half an hour. If you’d prefer not to wait, I can ask the chef to serve the food so you both can eat first.”
Charlie waved his hand and smiled, replying, “Let’s postpone the meal for another day. We’re heading to Harvard in a few days, and we can gather on the East Coast then.”
Steve smiled brightly in response. “No problem. I’ll be waiting for you on the East Coast.”
As Charlie stood up to leave, he turned to Steve and Rachel, saying, “Feel free to take your time with dinner later, Rachel. Just make sure to give me plenty of notice when I arrive in Miami, so I know when your meal will wrap up.”
Rachel understood perfectly what Charlie meant. She and Steve were having dinner together and the Governor’s Office would certainly take this seriously. As soon as Charlie returned to the dorm, he would ask for details and if he revealed the information about the oil prices set to rise, the Getty family would likely act swiftly. The situation could unfold before Charlie even arrived in Miami, making timing crucial.
The safest route would be to wait until Charlie was in Miami before heading back. Thus, she respectfully replied, “Mr. Chen, don’t worry. I’ll be waiting for your news.”
