After Steve had ordered all the dishes for the evening from the kitchen, he showed no urgency to return to the dining room. In fact, he felt as if his heart was a mirror reflecting his thoughts. A top-tier family leader like him was unable to compare himself to a mere aide in front of Charlie. Charlie certainly wouldn’t ask Robert, a distant grandnephew, for anything. What had transpired today suggested that he wasn’t truly interested in indulging; he must have wanted to discuss something with Robert’s mixed-race girlfriend, so it was prudent not to involve Robert in that conversation.
Unaware of the underlying situation, Robert noticed that all the dishes had been ordered and that Steve was still hesitating to leave. He couldn’t help but ask, “Grandpa, should we head back to the private room?”
“Hold on a moment.” Steve said, waving his hand dismissively. “Stay put, I need to make a phone call.”
Though surprised, Robert didn’t dare to question him and simply nodded in acquiescence.
Steve stepped out of the kitchen, took out his mobile phone, and called Charlie. The phone answered respectfully, “Mr. Wade, should I bring Robert over?”
Charlie replied, “Yes, come on over. I need to discuss something with you, but please find something for Robert to do first. Don’t bring him in just yet.”
Steve immediately responded, “Understood, I’ll send him to run an errand for me.”
