Ch. 991..1000
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 991-Are You Okay?
"Ah!"
Just as Jenny finished speaking, a cup of hot coffee was splashed toward her in the next second, catching her off guard. She hadn't anticipated it, so the coffee splashed all over her face, instantly blurring her vision.
She wasn't feeling well, to begin with, and Alexandra's sudden act of rudeness further aggravated her condition of discomfort. Jenny shot an icy glare at her attacker.
"Well, well. Such is the way a daughter of the York family carries herself."
"What's that supposed to mean? Are you threatening me with your family's backing?" Alexandra sneered, meeting Jenny's gaze squarely and unflinchingly.
She then said, "Jenny, don't think you're so great just because you're the head of the Walters. Let me tell you, even if you have a distinguished status, you still have to pay the price for your wrongdoing!"
Jenny didn't reply. Instead, she took a tissue to wipe the coffee off of herself. "Is that so? I'll say the same right back at you."
She would make Alexandra understand what it meant to pay the price for her action, but she didn't know if Alexandra could handle paying that price. Without saying another word, Jenny took out her phone and called security.
Soon, security arrived and took Alexandra away.
Since she'd vented her anger, she didn't continue to linger. However, as she was leaving, she still looked at Jenny resentfully. "You just wait. Things won't end well for you."
Jenny laughed.
Considering that she’d treated illnesses, saved lives, and had never done anything bad, she wondered what kind of bad ending would befall her.
After security took Alexandra away, Jenny changed into a white coat and continued to treat patients. However, her hair was still damp. As the heat from the coffee dissipated, it was replaced with a piercing chill. Since Jenny hadn't fully recovered from her illness yet, it was no different from rubbing salt in the wound.
Jenny held out until she'd seen all the patients. With the last patient gone, she could no longer bear it, so she went downstairs to find her colleague responsible for prescribing medication for fever and cold.
However, she could barely stand straight while waiting for the elevator before she could reach the ground floor.
"Are you okay?" A voice sounded beside her, and Jenny turned to see that it was Derrick.
Jenny shook her head and replied, ’Thank you. I'm fine."
"You don't look fine." Derrick saw her face turning red, and her overall condition seemed off.
Jenny didn't say anything and anxiously waited for the elevator.
The elevator hadn't arrived, yet Jenny was already struggling to stand as she leaned against the wall. She almost fell, but Derrick rushed forward to support her. "Are you running a fever?" he asked.
Jenny nodded and tried to push him away.
"I'll take you downstairs to get some medicine," Derrick said, holding and supporting her firmly. Although he and Jenny had some unpleasantness before, that was all in the past. Besides, they both had their own lives now. It wouldn't do to hold grudges forever.
Jenny wanted to refuse, but she found it difficult to even speak at the moment.
The fever medicine she took last night seemed to have only helped a little, as her condition had not improved at all.
When the elevator finally arrived, Derrick helped her go in. But to her surprise, McKenna was standing right inside. She never expected to see this scene when the elevator doors opened.
McKenna became infuriated instantly. Pointing at the two of them, she shouted, "Derrick! What are you doing?"
Her voice was loud, so the doctors and nurses who hadn't noticed them before all turned their heads. They looked at the three of them with a range of different expressions.
Many people in the hospital knew about the conflict between them, but they thought that Jenny wasn't interested in Derrick. However, upon seeing how Derrick was holding Jenny, they were quite surprised.
"Could something be going on between those two?" they wondered.
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 992-Right then, Jenny had a massive headache and wasn't in the mood to argue with them any longer. She shook off Derrick's hand and said with some difficulty, "You guys talk. I'll go downstairs first."
She was afraid she would faint there and then if she continued to let it drag out any longer.
She went into the elevator, but McKenna didn't intend to let her leave as she stared at Jenny angrily and said, "Jenny, what do you mean? You clearly rejected Derrick, but now you're flirting with him. Do you want to have your cake and eat it too?"
"You're overthinking things. I'm not interested in him," Jenny said, her head pounding.
Unfortunately, McKenna didn't believe her. "I'm overthinking things? Are you saying that I was mistaken?” McKenna sneered and halted the elevator there.
Jenny was at a loss for words. She looked at Derrick standing outside the elevator and asked, "Can you guys go out and talk? I need to go downstairs urgently."
"Jenny!" McKenna got even angrier upon being brushed off by her. She thought Jenny was openly seducing Derrick in front of her and was so livid she could hit someone.
Derrick snapped out of his daze at last. He was stunned and didn't know how to react because when he saw McKenna inside the elevator, he thought he was done for. McKenna was particularly possessive and would get angry if he talked to any woman for more than a few minutes. Now that she saw him helping Jenny, she was sure to make a big fuss.
He was distracted because he was at a loss about what to do. When he heard Jenny's words, he finally returned to his senses. "McKenna, you come out first and let Jenny go downstairs. I'll explain everything to you later."
"No, I won't! Why are you letting her go? Don't tell me you're still protecting her even now!" McKenna refused vehemently.
Derrick was speechless, but Jenny was even more so. Noticing that more and more people were gathering around, he knew that this couldn't go on. He forcibly pulled McKenna out of the elevator and pressed the door close button for Jenny before dragging her away.
"Derrick! Stop pulling me away!" McKenna's voice echoed through the hallway.
Jenny breathed a sigh of relief as the elevator doors closed.
The doors opened again on the third floor, and Jenny was about to walk out when she realized the people outside the elevator were acting strange. They had no intention of getting on the elevator but instead stared straight at her as if she were their prey.
Jenny lowered her head, pretending not to have noticed them, and was about to leave when she realized she was being too naive. Those people got on the elevator and blocked her path.
"Dr. Walter, come with us." With that, the person pressed the button for the basement.
Jenny pursed her lips and prepared to quietly reach her hand into her pocket to make a phone call. However, before she could do so, her hand was grabbed by one of the men.
"Dr. Walter, I advise you not to move around recklessly. The gun in my hand is not for show," the man said, pointing the gun at her waist and preventing her from moving.
If it were a normal day, she would have taken action the moment the person appeared at the elevator door and would never have let herself be trapped there. But now, she couldn't even stand still, let alone resist. On a normal day, she could take on five people at once, but with her condition now, she wasn't even a match for one.
Jenny thought she was fortunate to get into such a situation at a time like this.
Little did she know that the other party had deliberately chosen this opportunity to act. Otherwise, how could they have succeeded so easily?
In the corner of the hospital staircase, Derrick had just finished explaining everything to McKenna. "McKenna, I really don't have any feelings for her now. I only have eyes for you. Please believe me."
"Really?" McKenna was still doubtful, but her anger had subsided a lot.
"Yes. I helped her because I noticed she wasn't feeling well; I wasn't thinking of anything else," Derrick swore earnestly.
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 993-Stop Trying to Gauge Me After realizing she’d misunderstood Derrick, McKenna felt a bit embarrassed.
"Who knows what you were thinking? After all, you did like her before.” Although McKenna said that, Derrick knew that she was no longer angry. She just couldn't come to terms with it right now.
"It was my fault for not handling it properly, which led to your misunderstanding.
I promise it won't happen again next time," Derrick said without blaming McKenna.
Hearing him say that, McKenna felt much better. "So, does that mean you won't take care of her if you see her sick the next time?"
Derrick felt awkward and only spoke up after a while, "I'll quickly call other colleagues to take her downstairs together."
He was sure that if he said he wouldn't help Jenny, McKenna would be unhappy with his answer as well because she would think he was heartless.
Sure enough, McKenna wasn't angry anymore after hearing him say that." Well, that's about right."
"McKenna, are you not angry anymore?" Derrick asked, still a bit uneasy.
McKenna nodded, somewhat gingerly. "I'll trust you for now. But if I find out you're lying to me…Well, you know what the consequences will be."
Derrick immediately shook his head. "Don't worry. Such a thing won't be happening."
He didn't have the courage to lie to McKenna. He valued his life far too much to dothat.
McKenna turned around, walked out of the staircase, and made her way to the elevator. Derrick quickly caught up and asked, ' McKenna, where are you going?"
"I'm going downstairs to see how Jenny is. You said she's sick, right? She's a coworker, after all. We should go take a look," McKenna replied.
She didn’t have any ill intentions toward Jenny. In reality, she just didn't want her boyfriend to have too much contact with other women, as it made her insecure.
After realizing she had misunderstood Jenny, she felt guilty and wanted to go down and see if there was anything she could help with.
Derrick heard that and felt delighted. "McKenna, you're really kind."
McKenna pouted and didn't reply. She silently thought she wasn't kind at all —if she found out Derrick had any contact with Jenny, she would definitely give him a beating!
The two of them took the elevator and went downstairs. They soon found their colleague who was in charge of handling colds and fevers that day, but they didn't see Jenny. After asking around, they were told that Jenny hadn't been there. Hearing that, Derrick and McKenna felt that something was off.
They had seen Jenny take the elevator downstairs. Could she have left on her own after going down? It didn't seem likely in her condition. Derrick could tell that Jenny was quite ill, and if she'd left on her own, she might have passed out somewhere.
He wanted to look for her, but he didn't dare say it out loud. Stealing a glance at McKenna, he asked, "McKenna, what do you think is going on?"
"Stop trying to gauge my reaction. I know you want to go and look for her,” McKenna said, clearly not fooled. Based on Derrick's expression just now, he was definitely worried about Jenny. However, she didn't want to argue with him because even she found the situation peculiar.
Derrick felt embarrassed and decided not to say anything else, knowing that the more he said, the more misunderstandings he would cause. He decided to give up and not get involved since Jenny had nothing to do with him, but McKenna didn't plan to just leave it at that.
She said, "Let's go and ask Mr. Zeller. If Jenny left, he would know.” Mr. Zeller was the security guard downstairs. He was familiar with every doctor and nurse in the hospital, so if Jenny had left, he would have seen it.
"Okay." Derrick felt slightly relieved that she cared about Jenny's whereabouts.
At any rate, they should at least find out where Jenny had gone
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 994-Is Jenny Kidnapped?
Half an hour later, McKenna and Derrick were in the hospital director's office.
"So, you mean Jenny disappeared from the hospital?" Gavin Porter, the hospital director, adjusted his glasses and looked at the two incredulously.
McKenna nodded and replied, "Yes, I saw her go to the third floor with my own eyes, but the people on the third floor said they never saw her.
Furthermore, Mr. Zeller, who was downstairs, said he didn't see Jenny leaving.
Isn't this considered a disappearance?"
"Could she have left through the back door?" Gavin asked. The hospital had a back door specifically for medical staff, after all.
"We went to check and asked the security there too, but they didn't see her leave," Derrick added.
Gavin frowned, thinking that the two of them seemed to be making a fuss over nothing. Sensing what he was thinking, Derrick went on, ’Jenny's phone is now unreachable, and her condition when I last saw her wasn't good. No matter what, we need to find her first. What if something really happened?"
At this point, he hadn't yet considered the possibility of Jenny being taken away by someone. He was mainly worried that she'd fainted somewhere due to her illness.
Hearing him say that, Gavin was alarmed and took the matter seriously. After all, Jenny wasn't any ordinary doctor.
"Let's go to the surveillance room to take a look," Gavin said. He stood up immediately, fully aware of the gravity of the situation, so he didn't dare to delay things any longer.
McKenna and Derrick followed him. They came to see him specifically to check the surveillance footage. After all, without his permission, they could not view it.
After Gavin explained what he needed to see to the person in charge of the surveillance, they quickly pulled up the footage of Jenny entering the elevator.
They then saw several people enter the elevator with her inside. It was unclear what they said to Jenny, but she followed them to the basement after a brief exchange. Although they couldn't hear the conversation, judging from the expressions of the people in the surveillance footage, it was definitely not anything good.
In the surveillance footage of the basement, they saw Jenny and those people walking out of the elevator. She was pushed into a black SUV, and the car drove off, disappearing from the scope of the surveillance camera.
"Mr. Porter, does this mean Jenny has been kidnapped?" McKenna spoke up uncertainly. She'd never seen a kidnapping taking place in real life before.
Gavin's brow was now tightly furrowed. He thought it was just the two of them making a fuss, but he didn't expect something bad had really happened.
"You don't have to worry about this anymore. Don't go around talking about it. I'll handle this,’ Gavin instructed as he took out his phone to make a call.
McKenna wanted to ask more, but Derrick tugged at her sleeve and shook his head at her. "Let's go. We should leave this to Mr. Porter."
After they came out of the monitoring room, McKenna looked at Derrick suspiciously and asked, "You're just going to leave like this? Aren't you worried about Jenny?"
"My main concern was that she might have passed out somewhere without anyone noticing. Now that we found out she has been taken away, there's naturally no need for me to worry about her," Derrick explained. Jenny was a member of the Walter family, after all. No one would dare to harm her that easily.
McKenna thought Derrick's words made sense. "That's true. We've wasted so much time. I'm hungry now."
"Okay, okay. What does my little princess want to eat?" Derrick said with a laugh as he led McKenna away. Jenny's situation was out of their hands and no longer their concern.
At the same time, the Walters received the news of Jenny's abduction. Evan and Alec also learned about it very soon and started searching for her too.
On that day, news of Jenny's disappearance spread throughout Bardoff City.
Some people were anxious, while some were hopeful; there were also those who were hiding in the dark, ready to strike at any moment.
Jenny herself was unaware of all of this at the moment.
She was dizzy and had a headache—she didn't even know where she'd been taken to. The scenery in front of her was beginning to blur, and she knew she would pass out at any moment, but she kept holding on. She was afraid she wouldn't make it through that day if she lost consciousness now.
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 995-Fire at the Intruder With a creak, the door was pushed open. The big man from before walked into the room and stared coldly at Jenny. "Miss Walter, ask Alec to come and save you."
Jenny furrowed her brow. "Here we go again."
Was Zeke never going to give up? He'd just suffered a serious blow, and now he was targeting her again. Was he so eager to have another taste of defeat?
"We have no choice. You're someone Alec values," the man said.
Jenny stared at him with suspicion. ’Did Zeke send you?"
She couldnt help but wonder if Zeke would make another attempt again so quickly. The Fausts weren't doing well currently. They didn't have a high chance of success by making a move again so soon. It didn't seem like Zeke's style of doing things.
"There's no need for you to know who sent me,’ the man replied without giving a definite answer.
Jenny looked at him for a moment, then lowered her head and stopped talking.
"It doesn't matter if you don’t speak. We've already notified Alec, and he should be here soon. We just don't know if he'll be as lucky as last time,’ the man said before turning around and leaving.
Jenny stared at the closed door and felt that something was off.
"Would Zeke really use the same method twice? If not him, then who?
Moreover, even though the man just now didn't admit that Zeke sent him, his response was ambiguous and didn't rule out this possibility,' Jenny contemplated deeply and then realized that no matter who sent him to kidnap her, they were up to no good. Consequently, she had to escape as soon as possible.
Unfortunately, when she tried to stand up, the soreness she felt in her whole body, her blurry vision, and the throbbing pain in her head all prevented her from taking even a single step.
As soon as the big man walked out of the room, someone approached him. "It's all arranged. The boss will be back soon, and he reminded us not to blow our cover.’ "Ask him not to worry. We always deliver. When have we ever disappointed him?" the man replied.
However, right after that, he started worrying. "Why do you think the boss went to all this trouble?’ "He obviously wants to play the hero and rescue the damsel in distress,' another one of the men said.
"I heard from Howard that our boss is completely devoted to this woman. He must be in love with her,’ someone else chimed in.
The others nodded, having heard something similar.
Just then, the man's phone beeped, and he picked it up. After reading the message, he put on a serious expression. "Get ready. It's starting."
With that, the group dispersed and began to act according to plan.
Jenny was struggling to find a way to escape inside the room when she heard noises from the window behind her. She immediately turned her head and started to feel nervous. But soon, as the window was quietly opened, Evan's face came into her sight.
"Evan? What're you doing here?” "Shh, don't talk. Those men are all outside. Let's sneak away quietly." Evan didn't let Jenny say much. He quietly entered the room through the window, picked up Jenny, and prepared to leave. He carefully placed Jenny outside the window. But when he was about to leave through the window, the door was forcefully kicked open.
"Who are you?' "Everyone, fire at the intruder!"
With one command, gunshots instantly rang out. Hiding under the window, Jenny was extremely anxious as she didn't see Evan come out.
"Evan?" As soon as she called out, she could hear a muffled groan.
Jenny didn't have time to think much. She immediately got up. Looking through the window, she saw Evan in a gunfight with her captors. Jenny noticed his arm was bleeding; it looked like he'd been shot.
"Be careful, Evan!’ "Get down, and don't move!" Evan shouted at her.
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 996-ie!
Jenny wanted to help but knew she would only distract Evan instead of helping him out under such a circumstance. So, she could only hide behind the window and cower in fear.
The gunfire continued. Soon, Evan climbed out the window and came to Jenny's side.
"Let's go!"
"Those men…"
"It seems that Alec has brought his men here. We should leave and let him deal with them," Evan said. Without waiting for Jenny to speak, he took her by the hand and made to leave.
Jenny heard gunfire not far away and was worried about Alec, but she also knew it was better to leave quickly. If she and Evan were caught, it would only hinder Alec's effort in dealing with those men.
The two cautiously escaped, and Jenny realized they were in a normal residence. The house wasn't big, and it only had a small courtyard. That was where they were hiding at the moment, observing their surroundings and figuring out where to go.
It seemed the abductors were all busy dealing with Alec outside the perimeter of the courtyard. Jenny knew that she and Evan had to hurry and not waste the opportunity that Alec had created for them.
"Jenny, step on my back and climb over the wall.' Evan chose a relatively low wall. He bent down and let Jenny step on his back.
"Okay." Jenny didn't hesitate. Every extra unnecessary word uttered was a waste of time.
Although any form of movement was difficult for Jenny, she still succeeded in climbing over the wall with a formidable spirit. Just as she was waiting for Evan to climb out, footsteps came from not far away. She instinctively looked and saw that the person coming was Alec, which made her happy and relieved. "Alec!"
"Jenny, are you okay?" Alec walked over to Jenny hurriedly.
But in the next second, a turn of events occurred. Alec had been busy looking for Jenny and didn't bother to take care of all the men who had kidnapped her.
"Be careful!’ the two men shouted in unison, but the sick Jenny reacted very slowly.
She was about to be hit by a bullet when a figure shot toward her and pushed her to the floor.
The two bodies fell to the floor heavily, accompanied by Evan's muffled groan.
Alec turned around and shot the man who fired at them, instantly taking him out.
Then, he walked over to Jenny in frantic steps. "Jenny!"
"I'm okay. Send Evan to the hospital!’ Jenny was trembling with fear, and she could feel the warm blood soaking her clothes. She could see that Evan's face was pale.
At that moment, she even forgot to breathe.
Alec helped Evan up, then carried him on his back and supported Jenny as they walked toward a nearby car. He looked back at Paul, who was not far away, and with just one glance, Paul understood what he meant—leave no one alive.
As the car sped on the road, Jenny was a little dazed and starting to lose consciousness. But when she turned her head and saw Evan lying motionless beside her, she instantly regained her senses.
She couldn't pass out right now-she had to take him to the hospital, find the best doctor for him, and make sure he was okay before she could relax.
Alec was driving at full speed. "Don't worry, Jenny. He'll be fine."
Although he didn't like Evan, he didn't wish for him to be grievously injured. He got hurt in his attempt to save Jenny. If he died, Jenny would remember him for the rest of her life.
"Hang in there and don't die, Evan! You can't die!" Alec prayed wordlessly
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 997-urriedly pushed Evan into the emergency room.
Alec came to Jenny's side and supported her. He was about to comfort her by saying that Evan would be fine when he noticed how hot Jenny's body was.
"You still have a fever?” That morning, he thought Jenny was fine because she looked alright. She'd taken some fever medicine and slept through the night, so she should have already recovered. Who would have thought that she was still sick?
"I-I'm fine. I need to know whether Evan is alright.” Jenny insisted on waiting right outside the emergency room.
Alec wouldn't let her do as she pleased and lifted her up right away. "Be good, and don't move around. I'll monitor Evan's condition. In the meantime, we need to get you to a doctor.' Jenny couldn't object, so she could only lay in Alec's arms as he took her to see a doctor. Perhaps because Alec's scent relaxed Jenny's frayed nerves, or maybe she'd really reached her limit, as soon as Alec stepped into the hospital, she completely lost consciousness.
Alec was practically running with Jenny in his arms to the doctor's office. After taking her temperature, they found out that she'd already reached a temperature of 104 degrees Fahrenheit. If she continued to burn up like this, her brain might become damaged as a result.
When Jenny woke up again, it was already dark outside. She looked at the ceiling for a moment in a daze, seemingly not yet realizing what had happened.
Suddenly, she sat up on the bed with a jolt.
The IV needle in her hand almost got pulled off, and Alec, who was lying somewhere beside her, was also awakened by her movements.
"Jenny, you're awake? I'll have someone bring you some food,' Alec said as he walked over to her. He reached out to touch her forehead. After he was sure she was no longer running a fever, he breathed a sigh of relief.
Jenny grabbed Alec and asked, “How's Evan?"
She still didn't know where the bullet had hit Evan, but she knew it must have been very serious because he had bled a lot at the time.
"Relax, he's not dead. He suffered a spinal injury and needs to stay in the hospital for a few days," Alec answered.
Jenny wasn't stupid. Although Alec's words were vague, she could still tell that Evan's injury was serious. The spinal cord was the most important part of the human body, and if it was injured, the consequences were severe.
She looked up at Alec with tears in her eyes. 'Is he in a vegetative state now?"
A spinal injury would very likely lead to a vegetative state.
"No, he isn't. His injury isn't that serious." Alec shook his head, but he felt a sense of unease in his heart.
“Then tell me, what's the situation?' Jenny was very anxious. Alec had been refusing to tell her Evan's actual condition, so she was naturally frustrated.
Alec sighed, knowing he couldn't keep it from her any longer. "The doctor said he may have to spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair.’ "A wheelchair…" The word echoed in Jenny's mind as it went blank.
"How could this happen…" The situation was worse than she'd imagined.
Evan was so young, and he had a long life ahead of him. If he had to spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair, what would become of him?
Tears welled up in her eyes instantly, and Alec gently wiped them away. "I have already contacted the most famous doctors internationally. They'll find a way to cure him." "Okay, thank you." Jenny thanked him, but her tears still flowed freely.
"I want to go see him," she said, looking up at Alec and hoping he would take her there.
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 998-Seems Like You Know More "He’s still in the ICU. You should eat something first. Well go and visit him tomorrow,’ Alec said as he looked at Jenny.
She hadn't fully recovered, but she wanted to visit Evan immediately. Alec felt a little bothered about it. However, he didn't say anything. He knew how much Jenny valued favors. She, like him, disliked owing anyone anything, especially when it involved matters of life and death.
Jenny shook her head and insisted, "I'll just take a look from outside. I can't rest easy if I don't see him with my own eyes."
"Alright." Alec knew he couldn't stop her. So, he didn't prevent her from going to see Evan. He thought it wouldn't do her any harm if her mind could be at ease.
With that, he helped Jenny out of the ward and headed straight for the ICU where Evan was. Because Jenny was a doctor at the hospital, she was allowed to go in and see Evan. Even so, she didn't go in but just peered through the small window on the door.
"1-1 don't know how to face him," Jenny choked out. Evan hadn't woken up yet and didn't know that he would have to spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair.
Jenny couldn't imagine how devastated he would be when he found out.
Alec hugged her, feeling his heart ache for her. ’It's okay, Jenny. No one will blame you."
"I know he won't blame me." But she blamed herself. She wondered why she hadn't been more careful and blamed herself for getting kidnapped. If it hadn't been for her, Evan wouldn't have had to suffer.
She began to wonder if she was a jinx who brought misfortune to the people around her.
Alec didn't know how to comfort Jenny. He knew that nothing he said right now would make a difference. Hence, he just held her tight, as if the tighter he held her, the less likely she would leave him.
When they returned to their ward, the food had arrived. Alec opened it and handed it to Jenny. "Eat something first. Don't forget that you're a patient too."
Jenny nodded, but her gaze was vacant as she ate. Alec sighed and said,"
Jenny, I know you're upset right now, but no matter what, you have to take care of yourself. You still have me, and seeing you in such a state pains me. II "I'm sorry. I just…" She just needed time to come to terms with what happened.
"Did you catch those people? The ones behind all this?" Jenny asked.
The murderous intent in her eyes shocked Alec. He'd never seen Jenny look so ferocious before. Even if the other party had committed heinous crimes, she would only think of punishing them according to the law and never take matters into her own hands.
But now, Alec had no doubt that if she found the mastermind, she would personally see to it that they paid for their actions.
Alec shook his head as he replied, "No, those people were highly trained. Some escaped, and the ones who couldn't do so have already committed suicide."
"Suicide?' Jenny thought, shocked.
"Were they loyal henchmen trained to sacrifice themselves for a particular family?" Jenny frowned, feeling that the situation was more complicated than she’d imagined.
"Yeah, probably." Alec nodded. He had yet to find any leads.
Jenny put down her food, having lost her appetite completely. "Do you know if the Fausts have such a group of trained henchmen?"
The kidnappers had implicitly claimed to be sent by Zeke, but Jenny found it a bit strange.
"There should be, though it's not just specific to the Fausts. Every family has them," Alec said.
"Really? The Walters don't have any." Jenny, who had taken over the Walter family, had never heard of such henchmen.
Alec chuckled. "Not necessarily. Maybe your father didn't pass them down to you."
"It seems like you know more about this than me," Jenny commented.
"It's nothing. I just happened to do some research before and found that every family has them, but they're very secretive about it."
Alec had nothing to hide from Jenny. The Walters did have henchmen trained to do the family's bidding and sacrifice themselves if needed, but for some reason, Graham didn't pass them down to Jenny.
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 999-I Feel More at Ease Jenny lowered her eyes. She truly had no idea about the existence of such henchmen in the Walters. However, she didn't think too much about it.
Either Graham had not entrusted her because he thought she wasn't capable of handling them yet, or he thought it was better for him to retain control over them for the time being.
"Do you think Zeke was the one behind everything this time?" Jenny asked Alec, eager to find out the identity of the culprit behind the scenes.
Alec pondered for a moment, then shook his head. "I don't think so."
"Why are you so sure?" Jenny looked at him, surprised at how he'd swiftly come to that conclusion without any hesitance.
Now, it was Jenny’s turn to be silent. Although she felt it was unlikely that Zeke was the mastermind, she couldn't think of anyone else besides him.
Seeing Jenny racking her brain over the matter, Alec got up and leaned her back against the hospital bed. "Rest well. I'll investigate this matter.
Although those people are dead, we can still find out their identities and get some clues."
Jenny murmured in agreement, not saying anything else. She needed to get well soon, as there were many things she needed to handle personally.
Thinking of that, she closed her eyes to sleep but opened them again the next moment.
"You can go back now. I'm fine, so you don't need to stay here and watch over me."
Alec had as much to do as she did, and she felt guilty that he'd been staying with her all night. Smiling and shaking his head, Alec insisted on staying. "I feel more at ease watching over you."
"Alec-"
"Go to sleep. There's a couch over there. I'll sleep for a while after you fall asleep," Alec said.
Since Alec was so insistent, Jenny had no choice but to give up on persuading him to go back. She was well aware that she couldn't make Alec change his mind.
With that, she closed her eyes and quickly fell asleep. After Jenny was sound asleep, Alec quietly left the ward and sat on the bench outside the door, dialing a number on his phone.
"Look into this. I want to know who these people are." If Jenny were awake at that moment, she would be surprised by Alec's cold and harsh tone.
After all, she hadn't seen this side of him in a long time.
The next morning, Jenny woke up very early. She was already feeling much better and felt that she could be discharged from the hospital. However, since Evan was still in the ICU, she wasn't in a rush to leave. She still needed to wait for him to wake up. Whether she was a patient or a doctor while doing that didn't make much of a difference.
Just then, Alec came in with breakfast. "It's good that you're awake. Come and have some food."
"Thank you," Jenny thanked him graciously.
"Jenny, you don't have to be so formal with me." Although Alec had reminded her countless times, Jenny still found it hard to completely forego all forms of courtesy when conversing with him.
She felt a little embarrassed and apologized, "Sorry, it just came out that way naturally."
"It's okay. Just be mindful next time." Alec hoped Jenny could treat him like family; there was no need to be so distant when interacting with a family member.
As Jenny ate her breakfast, she couldn't help but wonder when Evan would wake up.
Just then, there was a knock on the door of her ward. Vincent walked in and announced, "Mr. Faust and Miss Walter, Mr. Clarke has woken up."
Upon hearing that, Jenny forgot about her breakfast and immediately got up to head toward the intensive care unit.
Alec, on the other hand, had a long face that gave off a hint of gloominess.
"Mr. Faust?" Vincent called out to him, feeling a little nervous when he saw that he hadn't moved from his seat.
Taking a deep breath, Alec kept his emotions in check. He consoled himself that it was normal for Jenny to care about Evan more right now, as he was her savior. Despite having comforted and mentally prepared himself, Alec couldn't help but feel jealous when he saw Jenny sitting by Evan's bedside and patiently comforting him.
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 1000-Don't Want You to Leave Me In the ward, Jenny sat quietly beside the hospital bed without saying a word.
Evan had remained silent since he woke up, not even saying a word to Jenny when he saw her. Seeing him like that, Jenny felt worried.
"Evan…" she said.
"Don't worry. I'm fine," Evan said with a smile. Even at that moment, he could still smile and tell Jenny that he was okay, not wanting her to worry too much.
"Fine? How could he be fine? He has to spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair. No one would be able to accept such an outcome calmly!' Jenny exclaimed inwardly.
"We're already contacting the best doctors for you. There must be a way,’ Jenny said, worried he was suppressing his emotions.
It was better to let it out at times like this instead of bottling it all up.
Hearing her say "we," Evan knew she was referring to herself and Alec. For some reason, he felt particularly displeased upon hearing that.
"Jenny, if I have to spend the rest of my life in a wheelchair, will you stay by my side?" Evan suddenly asked as he looked at her.
Jenny was stunned by his words. Even Alec, who was standing outside by the door, was visibly shaken. He wanted to barge in and ask Jenny to refuse Evan's request, but he knew it would be futile. If Jenny decided to say "yes," he couldn't stop her even if he went in.
Jenny pursed her lips and looked at Evan. "Evan, are you saying that-"
"I just don’t want you to leave me. I’ve become useless. If you leave me too, I don't know how I can live," Evan declared, smiling bitterly.
Jenny didn't say anything. She understood what Evan meant. Even though she wanted to refuse him, upon meeting his sad eyes, she knew she couldn't bring herself to do it. He became like this because he saved her. Without him, it could have been her sitting in a wheelchair for the rest of her life. She couldn't be so selfish as to deny his request.
"Haha. I'm just kidding. Don't worry about it. Just pretend I said nothing-"
"Evan," Jenny cut him off. *As long as you're bound to the wheelchair, I'll care for you every single day. Don't worry. I won't leave you."
Evan was surprised. He didn't expect Jenny to agree so quickly.
Outside the ward, Alec seemed to lose all his strength in an instant. He understood what Jenny’s words implied and found it hard to accept. They were about to progress to the next level, but now, because of Evan, fate forcibly pulled them apart once more.
When Jenny came out of the ward, she immediately saw Alec sitting on the bench. He sat there with his hands holding his head, looking very distressed, and that made Jenny feel sad. She surmised he must have heard what she said in the ward just now.
"Alec," Jenny called out to him. "I’m hungry. Let's go eat breakfast."
Because Evan woke up suddenly, she hadn't finished her breakfast before hurrying over. Now that she was done checking on him, she felt a bit hungry.
Alec looked up at Jenny and tried to say something, but in the end, he just nodded and said, "Okay."
Inside the ward, the two of them silently ate breakfast without saying a word.
Jenny couldn't quite taste the sumptuous breakfast that should have been delicious. She put down her spoon and looked at the person next to her.
"Did you hear what I said to Evan just now?’ "No.' Alec shook his head. He could pretend he didn't know anything as long as he denied hearing anything she'd said to Evan.
"Alec, don't lie to yourself." Jenny was sure that Alec had heard it; otherwise, he wouldn't have reacted like that.
With a clang, Alec threw his plate and cutlery on the table and looked at Jenny with reddened eyes. ’Yes! I heard it!" he bellowed exasperatedly.
"So, what do you want to tell me?"
