Chapter 851
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 851-What Reason Do I Have to Refuse?
Jenny wanted to turn him down, but she was a bit hesitant. After all, she didn't exactly have any conflicts with Luke. It seemed rather unreasonable for her to refuse him outrightly. She thought she shouldn't let Alec affect her that much.
As she thought about it, Luke continued, "Jenny, Walter Inc and Faust Group haven't tried collaborating over the years. I happen to have a good project in hand now. Why don't you consider it?"
"Since you put it that way, what reason do I have to refuse you?" Jenny agreed with a polite smile. It was also at that moment she realized the reason why she didn't like Luke.
Luke was the kind of person who would not give up until he achieved his goal, and to do that, he wouldn't bat an eye when resorting to unscrupulous means.
That was why Jenny instinctively disliked him.
However, as Luke had mentioned, both families had never worked together before. If he really had a good project in hand, Jenny wouldn't mind having a meal with him. After all, it was just a meal. Why would she need to be apprehensive about such a simple occasion? Luke wouldn't dare to try anything with her, given her status.
Jenny didn't refuse and got into Luke's car, but to be on the safe side, she sent a message to Alfred, asking him to come and save her if she didn’t contact him for an extended time.
Right now, Alfred was the only person she could rely on. He was part of her own company and someone she could trust. Jenny’s thoughts then drifted to Alec and Evan.
Thinking of them gave her a headache, so she thought it was better not to inform them. Though Jenny didn't want the two of them to know she was having a meal with Luke, it was futile because they were both well- informed. As soon as Jenny got into Luke's car, they were informed about it simultaneously.
Receiving the message, both of them had unpleasant expressions on their faces. They knew what Luke's intentions were. Therefore, they didn't want Jenny to get into contact with Luke unnecessarily. But since Jenny got into his car, Luke must have said something Jenny couldn't refuse. It made them worry.
As a result, not long after Jenny and Luke arrived at the restaurant, Alec and Evan also arrived one after another. They didn't go in to disrupt; they just waited at the door, mainly to ensure Jenny's safety.
In the car, Evan was feeling irritated. Dealing with Alec was already difficult enough, and now he had to deal with Luke, another competitor. All of them had ill intentions toward Jenny. If they were abroad, he would have made those people disappear long ago. But now, they were in the country, making it inconvenient for Evan to deal with them. Not only that, he was afraid Jenny would notice something was off.
When he was lost in thought, someone knocked on the car window. Evan lowered his car window, and upon seeing that it was Alec standing outside, his expression instantly became strained.
"What are you doing here?' Evan asked with a gloomy expression.
Alec, on the other hand, remained calm. He smiled as he said, "I'm here to do whatever you're here to do."
"Don't you think Jenny has too many pursuers?" Alec didn't care about Evan's unamused expression and continued speaking, his gaze directed toward the restaurant where Jenny and Luke were located, though they couldn't be seen.
Evan lit a cigarette and glanced at Alec. "Yes, indeed. Every fool under the sun wants her, not having an inch of self-awareness."
As he spoke, he looked at Alec pointedly, with an implied meaning that he, too, was included in the "every fool under the sun" category.
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 852-and stared at Alec for a while before smiling. "What are you trying to say?"
Alec wouldn't approach him for no reason. There must be a purpose behind his action; he couldn't have come up to him simply for an idle chat.
"Why don't you help me deal with Xavier?" Alec smiled, and from his tone, it sounded more like he wanted to discuss the matter rather than ask him a favor.
Evan was surprised by Alec's words. He looked at him for a while, and after confirming that Alec wasn't joking, he couldn't help but laugh. "What makes you think I would help you? Besides, it's Luke who's in my way now, not his father.
Aren't you taking me for a fool by asking me to deal with Xavier?"
It was Luke who was pestering Jenny. If anything, Alec should be asking him to take action against Luke, not Xavier. Evan wouldn't lend a hand if Alec were purely trying to use him to deal with the Fausts, who posed a threat to him.
Alec wasn't worried about Evan's questioning, he continued, "Luke doesn't have much say within the Fausts. Even if you deal with him, it won't be effective.
There will be other Fausts who'll look for trouble with you after you get rid of him. Therefore, it's unnecessary. It's Xavier and Yakov who are currently in the running for the position to become the head of the Faust family. As for Luke and Julian, they’re still young, so it's not their turn yet."
Evan understood the reasoning, but he wasn't keen on assisting Alec." Even so, I won't help you with Xavier. On top of that, you're overestimating me. I'm just an ordinary person. How would I have the ability to deal with the Fausts?"
As he spoke, he looked at Alec and felt he seemed to know something. But upon careful consideration, it was unlikely. Ever since Evan returned to the country, he'd been very cautious. Alec wouldn't have any reason to be suspicious of him.
"An ordinary person?" Alec chuckled lightly. "How could the famous mercenary leader from overseas be an ordinary person? You're too modest, Mr. Clarke."
As soon as these words came out of his mouth, Evan's expression changed drastically, and he stared at Alec intently. "How did you know?"
"Is it anything difficult? One just needed to spend some money to get someone to do some digging overseas."
Of course, the truth was that obtaining information on Evan was not a simple task at all. Evan wasn't a fool, so he naturally kept information about him hidden.
Nevertheless, as long as one paid the right price, no information couldn't be uncovered.
Alec had been quite lucky. When Evan first appeared, he had someone investigate him right away. However, he couldn't find any information, which made him realize that Evan's identity was not simple. After all, most people wouldn't need to hide their information.
Hence, he spent a lot of money to uncover Evan's true identity. While he was quite surprised, he also made plans upon finding it out. So, when he appeared in front of Evan that day to discuss a collaboration, it was not an impulsive decision. Alec had prepared for it long ago.
Evan was displeased about this. He knew how difficult it was to uncover any information that pointed to his identity, and since Alec had managed to do so, it meant that he'd definitely spent a lot of time on it.
He couldn't figure out why Alec would investigate him when they hadn't had much interaction. Therefore, he asked Alec about it, wanting to know what his answer would be.
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 853-You're Not Capable Enough "As the saying goes, 'Know thy self, know thy enemy; and you can win a hundred battles without defeat.' You should understand this principle more than anything.’ Although Evan appeared before he had fully regained his memory, Alec had a gut feeling that he would pose a threat to him, so he spared no expense in investigating him thoroughly.
After a moment, Evan smiled helplessly and said, "Mr. Faust, you truly are meticulous in your thinking. I'm in awe."
He had also investigated Alec, but all the information about him was publicly available, and anything he found could be found by anyone else. Because of that, there was no value in using any of that information against him.
Alec didn't respond to his praise but asked, ‘ What do you think of my proposal earlier, Mr. Clarke?"
"What if I refuse?" Evan asked.
"It's okay," Alec said indifferently. Before Evan could breathe a sigh of relief, Alec continued, ’That would give me something to talk about with Jenny. I think she should know quite well what you've been doing abroad all these years."
Evan was infuriated; his gaze directed at Alec was filled with a hint of killing intent.
Alec couldn't care less and went on, "By the way, I also found out that Randy had suddenly died in prison. I think you had something to do with it, Mr. Clarke.
Am I right?' Ever since he found out that Evan was no ordinary person, Alec had been keeping an eye on him, so he had been keeping tabs on the man's every move.
"You've sent someone to tail me." Evan came to realize that without someone constantly stalking him, Alec wouldn't have known such detailed information.
Alec didn't deny it but continued to ask, "So, would you like to reconsider my proposal from earlier?’ Evan’s face darkened. He had lived for so many years, yet this was the first time someone had blackmailed him so blatantly. He looked at Alec as if he was looking at a dead person. It was clear that he had the intent to silence Alec permanently.
Although killing Alec might arouse suspicion from Jenny, he had no better option at that moment. Alec knew too much, so if he didn't deal with him in a timely manner, he would be forever under Alec's control.
As if sensing what he was thinking, Alec wasn't intimidated as he said, "Mr.
Clarke, you should think about it carefully. Although I'm not as formidable as you, it won't be easy to kill me. Can you bear the consequences if your attempt doesn't succeed?"
By then, Jenny would find out everything about Evan-his shady secret identity, Randy’s death, and also his plans to get rid of Alec. Based on Jenny's personality, she wouldn't be able to accept him being such a person.
If Alec could think of it, Evan would naturally be able to foresee how things would turn out as well. His sullen expression clearly indicated that he'd arrived at the same conclusion.
The two of them remained at an impasse. After a long while, Evan chuckled and said, "How about I help you take care of everyone in the Faust family? Wouldn't that be better?"
"You're not capable enough to do that." Alec's reply was blunt. So what if Evan was the leader of a group of mercenaries? He didn't bring in many people.
Being able to take care of Xavier would already be a remarkable feat on his part. As for taking on the other Fausts, it would be too far a stretch for him.
"From what you're saying, it seems you'd actually want me to do it if I had the ability?" Evan was somewhat annoyed, but he kept a smile on his face, trying not to show too much emotion in front of Alec.
Alec chuckled, not answering the question. 'Let's discuss how to proceed then."
"Killing Xavier is doable, but Luke should be dealt with too. I really can't stand him.’ After all, he was always pestering Jenny, which was annoying to watch.
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 854-You Stalker Unexpectedly, Alec shook his head, his expression solemn. "If Xavier is dead, Luke won't be able to cause much trouble. And if two people from the Faust family die at once, you won’t be able to withstand Zeke's wrath."
The head of the Faust family wasn't to be trifled with. It wouldn't matter if Evan's men were brought in from abroad; if Zeke got serious, not a single one of them would be spared, and Evan himself might even end up in trouble too.
"That's true." Evan understood the reasoning as well. He just wanted to see if Alec was intentionally trying to get him killed. However, the result surprised him.
"Don't worry. We're working with each other now. I won't knowingly send you to your death.’ Alec glanced at him, once again able to tell what he was thinking.
Evan sneered coldly and said, "I find it more desirable to work with Xavier to kill you rather than help you kill him." Alec was even more detestable than Luke, and the threat he posed was even greater.
"Is that so? Are you really going to do that?" Alec remained calm, smiling as he looked at Evan, showing no signs of panic.
Evan felt a little uneasy seeing the way he behaved. He couldn't help but think Alec was hiding something and hadn't revealed all his cards yet.
His gaze fell on the restaurant entrance. Noticing Jenny and Luke were coming out, Evan immediately wound up his car window and said, "Send me the details." He then started the car engine and left swiftly.
By the time Alec realized what was going on, Jenny and Luke had already reached the entrance of the restaurant and naturally spotted him standing there.
They both frowned, especially Luke, who was extremely peeved at seeing him.
’What're you doing here, Alec."
"Just passing by," Alec responded.
"Passing by? Don’t tell me you're stalking Jenny," Luke sneered, finding it hard to believe such a coincidence.
Sure enough, the moment he suggested that, Jenny was visibly displeased.
She'd been suspecting Alec was stalking her, and the constant feeling of being watched made her feel very uncomfortable. She felt she was deprived of the freedom to do anything without falling under his gaze.
However, she held back her anger in Luke's presence. Instead, she told him, "Mr. Luke, you should head back. I hope we can work well with each other in the future."
"I'll drive you back." Luke didn't want Jenny and Alec to be alone together. He'd finally made some progress with Jenny and didn't want Alec to interfere.
Unfortunately for Luke, Jenny had no interest in him at all. If it hadn’t been for the sake of their future collaboration, she wouldn't have agreed to have a meal with him in the first place. "There's no need. I want to stroll around some more,"
Jenny said.
Luke nodded and left, knowing that Jenny was just placating him, but he didn't want to offend her either. After all, he'd barely made any progress, so it didn't make sense to piss her off right away.
As he walked past Alec, he whispered, "Jenny is mine!’ After saying that, he left, not caring about Alec's reaction. He was determined to win Jenny over.
Alec couldn't help but smile when he heard his words, showing no signs of anger at all. He was pretty darn sure Jenny wouldn't like him anyway.
When he came back to his senses, Jenny was standing right in front of him.
"Have you been stalking me?"
"No." Alec shook his head. Fearing she wouldn't believe him, he quickly explained, "I was keeping an eye on Luke. I heard that he was having dinner with you, and I was worried, so I came to check.’ "Really?" Jenny was skeptical but also thought it was reasonable for Alec to have someone watching Luke, considering the chaos within the Fausts.
Alec nodded. "Yes, I know you don't like being followed. I wouldn't deliberately provoke you."
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 855-he less she wanted to think about it.
She could give a clear answer to Evan, but the same couldn't be said for Alec.
Jenny didn't have an answer in her heart.
Alec didn't drive, so he walked with Jenny along the roadside. They walked side by side, but neither spoke, yet the atmosphere wasn't awkward.
There weren't many people on the street at night, especially on the small path near the river where they were walking. Only a few sporadic night runners were around, making it particularly quiet.
"Is your work at the hospital going well?" Alec asked as they walked. He asked it in a way as if they were old friends catching up; there wasn't much emotion in those words.
Jenny nodded and smiled. "It's going well. I feel more suited to working in the hospital than taking over the company anyway."
She didn't have the ability or the interest to handle business matters.
"Well, that's good. Walter Inc has professional managers overseeing everything.
Nothing untoward will happen.’ Alec wanted to say that even if something did crop up, he would be there. But in the end, he didn't say it out loud.
Jenny murmured in agreement, and the two fell into silence again.
As they walked, an untimely sound suddenly came from the quiet path, which was lined with trees. They instinctively looked toward the source of the sound and froze instantly. In the distance, two lovers were kissing.
They were seemingly unaware of anyone approaching as they were still passionately kissing.
Jenny’s cheeks turned uncontrollably red, and she walked forward quickly, feeling that the scene was too awkward.
Alec, on the other hand, remained expressionless. However, upon seeing Jenny blush, the corners of his mouth couldn't help but curve upward slightly. He looked amused at the sight. He caught up with Jenny quickly and deliberately teased, "Are you shy?"
Jenny stopped and glared at him. 'I'm not. It's just kissing. Everyone has done it before."
At her age, if she admitted to being shy, she would definitely be mocked by Alec, and she didn't want that.
"Have you done it? With whom?" Alec didn't look pleased, and the thought of Jenny kissing other men made him insanely jealous.
Jenny looked at him with wide eyes, full of disbelief.
Was he serious? Did he just ask her, "With whom?" Who else could it be besides him?
Alec seemed to quickly realize that as well, and the angry expression on his face disappeared instantly, replaced by a smile. "Have you only done it with me?"
"Alec!" Jenny exclaimed angrily, raising her hand to hit him.
However, her hand was ultimately unable to land on Alec's body. He grabbed it and pulled her into his embrace, whispering softly in her ear, "Do you want to try it again?"
Jenny didn't know how to reply. She was completely baffled, and before she could react, Alec's warm lips were already upon hers. Jenny didn't dare to move.
She froze with her eyes open wide, seemingly unable to comprehend the situation.
"Weren't we just having a stroll? How did we end up like this?" Jenny thought.
Alec just pressed his lips on Jenny’s for a very brief moment, not delving too deep. But even so, he was already very delighted.
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 856-Jerk!
If she didn't like it, she would have pushed him away at the first instance, feeling repulsed by him or maybe even slapped him.
All that should have happened instead of what went on now-she neither pushed him away nor raised her hand against him, and her heartbeat was faster than usual.
Jenny's originally flushed cheeks were even redder now. Her cheeks were practically scarlet, looking like a ripe, delicious apple meant to be devoured.
When she regained her senses and wanted to slap Alec, he didn't give her a chance to do so. He lowered his head and planted another kiss on her lips. The unique scent of his breath came between their lips, and Jenny was so dazed by the kiss that she lost all sense of her surroundings and couldn't tell where she was for a moment.
"I told you this is a good place for kissing. Look at them. They’re even bolder than us." A voice came behind them, presumably from the young couple they had seen earlier.
Jenny's face turned even redder at that, and she forcefully pushed Alec away.
She then walked briskly ahead, feeling too embarrassed to face anyone.
Alec turned to nod at the young couple not far away. If it hadn't been for them, he and Jenny might not have gotten closer tonight. He quickly caught up with Jenny on the side of the street. The surroundings were now brightly lit- it was obviously inappropriate for him to attempt his earlier stunt again.
Alec cleared his throat and walked up to Jenny. "It's late. Let me take you home."
"Okay," Jenny replied softly, following Alec.
They walked in the direction of the restaurant. Both of them acted as if nothing had happened just now. From Jenny's viewpoint, Alec looked serious now, showing no signs of the wild passion he exhibited earlier.
She was a little disgruntled. "What's this? He kissed me and acted like nothing had happened. What a jerk!" Jenny cursed in her heart.
Alec didn't know what she was thinking. He thought that if he brought up what happened earlier, it would only make her more embarrassed. So, he pretended as if nothing had happened, assuming it would be better this way.
Soon, they arrived at the restaurant entrance where Alec's car was parked.
He opened the passenger door for Jenny. "Get in."
Jenny didn't say anything and silently got in the car.
The car started quickly, and Alec drove Jenny right to her doorstep. Just as Jenny's figure was about to disappear from his sight, Alec suddenly shouted in her direction, "Jenny! I'm serious!"
Jenny didn't turn back as she exclaimed internally, "Who cares if you're being serious? At least I don't!"
It wasn't until Jenny's figure disappeared that Alec got back in his car again, but he'd returned to his usual self by then, without the impulsive look from earlier.
Nevertheless, if one looked closely, one could still seethe glimmer of joy he couldn't hide in his eyes.
In her bedroom, Jenny lay on the big bed, tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep.
That kiss was like a mark engraved in her mind. Every time she closed her eyes, the moment would automatically replay itself, and she could still feel the warmth of Alec's lips on hers.
Jenny felt like Alec had bewitched her. She told herself that wouldn't do! And so, she quickly shifted her attention. She sat up, leaned against the headboard, and called Stephanie.
The phone rang for a long time before Stephanie answered, "Miss Walter, why are you calling so late? Is there something wrong?"
Since Jenny took over the Walters' business, Stephanie liked to call her Miss Walter, saying it sounded more imposing. Jenny sneered at it, but she couldn't be bothered to argue with her.
"I just missed you and wanted to call and ask about your recent situation,"
Jenny said.
Unfortunately, Stephanie wasn't a fool. "Missed me? Are you sure there's nothing else going on? Come clean. What happened?" she asked suspiciously.
Stephanie found it impossible for Jenny to call her in the middle of the night so suddenly for no reason.
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 857-Brain Fog Jenny was already feeling upset and restless in the first place. Since Stephanie asked, she decided to tell her everything, hoping that she could help analyze Alec's behavior.
After she listened to Jenny pouring out everything that was troubling her, Stephanie's mouth opened wide in shock. It was so wide, an egg could easily fit in.
"Jenny, shouldn't you be analyzing yourself now?" She couldn't understand why Jenny didn't notice she was behaving abnormally too.
Upon hearing that, Jenny paused, seemingly coming back to her senses.
"Alec forcefully kissed you, and you're not scolding him; instead, you're analyzing his mind? Jenny, are you having brain fog?" Stephanie was speechless, not knowing what else to say.
There was a brief moment of silence where Jenny was embarrassed and didn't know how to respond either. "I was too stunned to react at the time."
"Then what about now? Have you snapped out of it yet?" Stephanie asked, feeling like Jenny hadn't just failed to react but had actually acquiesced.
What did that mean? It could only mean that in her heart, Jenny hadn't let go of Alec.
Jenny remained silent. She was aware of her problem.
After some time, Stephanie sighed and said, "It's no wonder people always say the first love is the most unforgettable. Alec is your first love, so it's normal that you can't forget him, especially since he's still pursuing you."
Jenny continued to remain silent.
"I wonder if you were his first love?" Stephanie suddenly asked.
Jenny didn't know what came over her when she answered, "I guess so. I haven't heard of him having an ex-girlfriend."
"He didn't? What about the woman with the surname Blue or something you guys argued about before? You even suspected that Alec was using you as her substitute." Stephanie found it quite unbelievable that Jenny had forgotten about it.
With her reminder, Jenny finally remembered that name.
Quinn Blue, the girl Alec once liked.
She didn't say anything, so Stephanie was a little worried. "I was just casually mentioning it. After all, he likes you now, and the past is in the past. Besides, he definitely doesn't see you as a replacement for the other girl."
Alec explained himself to her after that incident. Jenny understood to some extent that in the end, they didn't end up together, just like she and Evan.
They both liked someone whom they didn't end up together with in the end.
The only difference might be that when Jenny liked Evan, she was still a child and didn't understand what love was, but when Alec liked Quinn, he was already an adult and understood love.
Jenny wasn't exactly sure what was the difference between the two kinds of love, but she instinctively thought there was definitely something different between them.
"The most important thing now is whether you like him." Stephanie's tone became serious. She felt that determining that was more important than anything else.
In fact, Jenny had been asking herself the question repeatedly.
"I don't know," she finally answered.
Stephanie held her forehead speechlessly as she thought, "You still don't know?
It's written all over your face that you like him!"
If Jenny didn't like him, she would have kicked Alec away when he tried to kiss her earlier. But Stephanie didn't say it out loud so explicitly. After all, Jenny had to think it through herself and come to her own realization about her feelings.
"If you don't know, then think about it carefully. Think about it before you meet him again. Don't see him before you have an answer yourself. Give yourself space to think independently." Stephanie believed that with Jenny's current situation, she might get confused as soon as she saw Alec, and she wouldn't be able to come up with a clear answer.
Jenny thought what Stephanie said made sense, so she agreed, "Okay. I will think it through." "Go get some sleep. It's getting late."
"Okay, good night.
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 858-I Can't Give You What You Want It was a Saturday the next day.
The sound of her phone ringing woke Jenny up from her sleep. She reached out a hand from under the covers and answered the call.
"Hello? Who is it…Oh, it's you, Evan…Where did you say you were?" Jenny sat up in bed, rubbing her eyes. If she didn't hear him wrongly just now, it seemed like Evan was saying he was right outside Walter Castle. Jenny came to her senses after a while. "Alright, I'll send the butler to pick you up."
She hung up the phone and rubbed her temples. Although she had fallen asleep quickly after talking to Stephanie on the phone last night, she didn't sleep well. It was because she had a dream about Alec that was quite inappropriate, and it annoyed her.
With no time to think too much, she got up from bed, freshened up, and walked out of her bedroom. She noticed Evan sitting in the living room downstairs right away.
"Evan, why did you come so early?" Jenny was puzzled and quickly walked downstairs toward him.
It had been a few days since she last saw Evan, and she wanted to make it clear to him that she had no other intentions, hoping that he would give up.
However, seeing Evan showing up at Walter Castle again, Jenny felt that she might have been too naive.
Upon seeing Jenny, Evan immediately noticed the dark circles under her eyes and asked, concerned, 'What's wrong? Did you not sleep well?"
"Yeah." Jenny nodded, not wanting to discuss this topic. "Have you had breakfast? I'll ask the kitchen to prepare something."
"Not yet. I'm here to have breakfast with you," Evan said with a smile.
He didn't know what Jenny and Luke talked about yesterday or whether Jenny had any contact with Alec after he left. He was worried and decided to come over early in the morning to check on Jenny and increase his sense of presence around her.
Jenny wouldn't have known that he was thinking about all those things. After instructing the butler, she sat across from Evan.
"Are you getting used to your work?’ Jenny asked.
Evan nodded. "It's alright, but there's still a lot to learn, and I need to keep working hard."
"Don't be so modest, Evan. Although I haven't been involved in the company's affairs much, the managers often praise you for being excellent.
I know you're very capable." Though Jenny didn't go to the company, she still needed to be aware of the situation at Walter Inc. The managers would report to her every week. In several of the reports, she'd seen praises for Evan's work, so she knew he was skilled and competent.
Hearing her compliment, Evan felt a little embarrassed. "They're just exaggerating it. I'm not that capable."
Seeing him deny it, Jenny didn't continue the topic. "Evan, what are your plans for the future?"
"What are you trying to say, Jenny?” Evan was not stupid. The fact that Jenny asked so many questions could only mean she had something else she wanted to say.
In fact, he could already guess what Jenny wanted to say; it was nothing new.
Hearing his question, Jenny felt a little helpless. "Forget it. It's nothing that I haven't said before. You won't listen to me even if I tell you about it."
"If you don't want me to work in Walter Inc, I don't necessarily have to keep working there," Evan replied.
Jenny quickly waved her hand when she heard him say that, indicating that she didn't mean it that way. "Our company is very fortunate to have an employee like you. I'm just afraid that it might affect your life plans."
"Do you really have no intention of giving me a chance?" Evan smiled bitterly as he could easily understand the meaning behind Jenny's words.
Since they had reached this point in the conversation, Jenny had no choice but to speak frankly, "Evan, I only see you as a brother, just like Gilbert and Zack.
So, I don't want you to change your life plans because of me. I can't give you what you want."
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 859-Nothing You Need to Apologize For After Jenny finished speaking, the living room fell into complete silence, which made her somewhat worried. In fact, that wasn't the first time she'd said such things. From the very beginning, when Evan decided to join Walter Inc, she'd made herself clear. It was simple: she didn't like him.
"Evan, I'm sorry, I…"
"Why apologize? There's nothing you need to apologize for. I've just been too naive about everything," Evan said with a bitter smile. He sighed lightly and continued, "When Gilbert contacted me and asked me to return to the country, I didn't hesitate much because he and I had the same idea. We both thought that when you confessed to me back then, it must have meant you liked me, so I believed I could win you back when I returned."
"Evan-"
"But we both forgot that everyone has their own mind and personal thoughts.
Your thoughts shouldn't be manipulated by anyone, nor will they be manipulated in any way," Evan interrupted what she was about to say and prattled on himself.
Jenny pursed her lips, feeling complex emotions upon hearing what he had to say.
Just when Jenny thought that he was going to give up because of what he'd just said, Evan's words took a sudden turn as he confessed to her," Jenny, I've been thinking about you all these years. When Gilbert found me and told me about the mistreatment you received from Alec, you don't know how sad I was to hear it. So, I didn't hesitate much when I agreed to come back. It's because I want you to be happy. Before you have a boyfriend, give me a chance, okay?"
His tone was gentle, suggesting that he wouldn't continue to pester her if she really rejected him. Faced with his humble request, Jenny couldn't bring herself to say "No."
They locked eyes for a moment, then Jenny hardened her heart and said,"
Evan, there's no need for that. I—"
"Do you have someone you like now?" Evan asked bluntly.
Jenny was at a loss for words and didn't answer.
"Since you don't, why does it matter if I like you? Don't I have the right to like you on my own?" In fact, he didn't need Jenny's permission. Evan didn't care who Jenny liked now. Even if she liked Alec, he wouldn't easily give up before they got married.
Jenny sighed again, and just then, the maid came over to inform them that breakfast was ready. Jenny took the opportunity to end the conversation." Let's have breakfast first. After breakfast, I have something important to talk to you about."
"Okay." Seeing that Jenny didn't mention anything about wanting him to give up, Evan's mood improved slightly.
They walked toward the dining table. Jenny handed Evan the contract she and Luke drafted the day before regarding the collaboration between Walter Inc and Faust Group. "This is a collaborative initiative brought to me by Luke. I've read it over, and it seems good. Please take a look," she said.
Evan took the contract and casually scanned through it. "Looks decent," he said.
"Well then, since that's the case, you'll be in charge of this from now on. I won't be involved in it anymore," Jenny said. As long as the collaboration benefited Walter Inc, Jenny wouldn't refuse-even if it was proposed by Luke, whom she didn't like.
Evan nodded. He was fine with this arrangement as it would prevent further contact between Jenny and Luke. "Okay, I'll handle it, but I'll need time to do some due diligence for this collaboration. We may not sign the official contract so quickly."
He knew the collaboration was destined to fail, as Luke's father would pass away soon. When that happened, not only would this contract not benefit Walter Inc, but it would also bring a lot of trouble. So, for now, he could only buy time by dragging it out
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 860-Ask Him Yourself Jenny didn't understand why, but she didn't oppose what he said. "Alright, you handle it. I trust your abilities." "Okay." Evan smiled and asked her, "So, Luke approached you to talk about this collaboration? Why is he suddenly being kind?"
"Whatever his purpose is, as long as we can get tangible benefits, it doesn't matter even if he has ulterior motives." Jenny didn't care; in fact, she could guess what Luke was up to.
Hearing her words, Evan knew that Jenny wasn't interested in Luke. Even so, he would still help Alec get rid of Xavier, as he wasn’t exactly thrilled to see Luke constantly pestering Jenny.
After breakfast, Evan suggested taking Jenny to meet Gilbert, and they could have a meal together.
Jenny didn't refuse. She hadn't seen much of Gilbert since he came back some time ago. They were all busy, and Jenny didn't know if it was her imagination or something else, but she felt that Gilbert had become more distant after he returned. It was unlike when they were in Parrington, where they used to contact each other almost every day.
On the way to meet Gilbert, Evan suddenly remembered something. "Do you know about Gilbert's situation?"
"Huh? What situation?" Jenny was a little confused, not quite understanding the meaning behind Evan's words.
Evan thought Jenny already knew. After all, Gilbert's matter had caused quite a stir, and based on their relationship, she shouldn't be unaware.
Right then, Evan had no idea about what happened between Gilbert and Jenny, so naturally, he wouldn't know why Gilbert went abroad. He had always thought that Gilbert went abroad to develop his business.
He hesitated for a moment but didn't tell her about it ultimately. "You can ask him yourself later."
Since Gilbert didn't tell Jenny, he probably didn't want her to know. If Evan were to tell her, it would probably make Gilbert unhappy.
"Oh." Jenny found it strange that Evan was being so secretive. Was there something that they were purposely hiding? Filled with doubt, she asked Gilbert about it right away the moment they saw each other.
Gilbert immediately glanced at Evan, and his eyes seemed like they could kill.
Evan rubbed his nose and looked away; he didn't know Gilbert hadn't told Jenny about that matter.
"Gilbert?" Jenny found it odd that Gilbert wasn't speaking, but staring at Evan instead. It made her feel even more puzzled.
When he turned his head and looked at Jenny, there wasn't a trace of the killing intent earlier in his eyes. They had already returned to normal. "Don't listen to his nonsense. Nothing is going on. I'm just having some trouble dealing with a difficult client."
"A difficult client? How so?" Jenny was skeptical. If it was just a difficult client, Evan shouldn't know about it.
Gilbert remained silent, appearing to be deep in thought from Jenny's perspective, but Evan knew that he was trying to come up with a lie.
Sure enough, not long after, Gilbert spoke up, "It's just that I didn't want to work with that customer, so he found someone to go after me behind my back. I got injured, but it was nothing serious."
Upon hearing the word "injured," Jenny immediately became anxious." Where did you get hurt? Is it serious?"
"I'm fine now. It wasn't serious," Gilbert replied.
"How can you not tell me about something so huge?" Jenny was angry, but after her anger subsided, she blamed herself. If it wasn't because of her, Gilbert wouldn't have gone abroad. She felt guilty and apologized, "I’m sorry, Gilbert.
It's all my fault…"
"What does it have to do with you? This is part and parcel of doing business.
You're bound to encounter people willing to do anything to get their way. It's nothing strange. Don't think too much into it," Gilbert reassured Jenny, and he felt relieved that she believed him. Lying to Jenny took a lot of courage on his part.
