Ch. 831..840
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 831-Please Let Him Go As the two walked, they failed to notice the car trailing behind them a distance away.
Though Alec didn't seem to care, he was rolling in waves of jealousy. That was why he never left the restaurant after dropping Jenny off.
He ended up reaching the concert hall with the both of them, only stopping when they entered and disappeared from sight.
"The fuck is wrong with you, man? Jenny would never tolerate you stalking her like this,’ he groaned, rubbing his face tiredly.
After thinking things through, he drove off, leaving the two alone. There were far more important things to do right now.
Graham never expected Rowena to show up in front of him ever again.
He'd thought she'd be wise enough to stay hidden for the rest of her life with the money he gave her.
She really did think he wouldn't do anything to her, huh?
"What are you doing here?’ Graham grunted coldly. No point faking the pleasantries now.
Rowena didn't get upset with his attitude. She was there to ask for help, after all.
It was better to have the right demeanor.
With a smile, she said, "Have you had lunch? Let me make something for you."
"No need. You were never so kind, so you don't need to try and act like that now," Graham stopped her.
Rowena blinked, embarrassed, and went back down to sit beside Graham.
The man wrinkled his nose at how little a gap she left between them. So he stood up. "Get to the point of why you're here."
Tm.J'm here to ask you to have mercy on my family." She couldn't just do anything while her family suffered.
Graham snorted. "For the Glasses?
"Let's take a step back now, shall we? What do you think of Randy's actions the other night? Do you really think he should go unpunished with how reckless and murderous he was with those bombs?"
He had heard from the police that Randy might not get a death sentence and got frustrated. Not even the boy's death would quell Graham's hate for him, not to mention a life sentence.
Rowena nodded solemnly. "He did make a grave mistake. But he's the only heir my family has. If something happens to him, we're doomed."
"Weren't you already doomed?"
Rowena bit her lip. Yes, they were, but they still had money. So long as they planned their steps wisely, they'd still be able to have a mediocre life.
"I know you hate Randy, Graham, but please, I beg of you. Let him go this once.
I promise he'll never show up in front of you again. I'll make him stay overseas."
Graham sneered. "What makes you think I'll say yes? He nearly killed Jenny! II "Yes, he did. But…please, for the sake of the daughter we have, please just let him go." Rowena didn't want to beg either, but her family had forced her to, and it would be damaging if they cut ties with her too.
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 832-d loved this man once, after all.
"See her out.’ Graham no longer wanted to speak to nor see her again." From this day onward, I will no longer see to Ms. Glass nor do I want her in my house!"
Some of the servants in the household were used to Rowena's presence over the years and would still treat her as the matriarch whenever she came around.
Surely they'd no longer make the same mistake now.
Rowena glared at him, eyes red with unshed tears. 'TH remember this, Graham Walter!"
She had decided to let go of the past after their divorce and instead spend her days doing what she loved with the money she had. In fact, she'd been happier than she'd ever been when she was still Graham's wife. But the man's attitude still managed to elicit hatred from her heart.
She stormed out from Walter Castle, coincidentally meeting Jenny, who'd just returned from the music concert.
"How many times has this been now?" Jenny scoffed. "Looks like you failed again. Boo-hoo."
"Jen-" Rowena was about to curse again when she forcefully calmed down and asked, "About Randy. Can you let him off the hook?"
Jenny was genuinely shocked by the woman's audacity. "God will be the judge of that. What I'll do, though, is send him right to Heaven's gates. Of course, he might find himself in front of Hell. People like him don't seem to have a big chance of being in God's good graces."
She was way more straightforward than her father, unfortunately. No way was Randy going to be let go for his crimes now that even Rowena had come begging for mercy. Jenny would make sure Randy didn't escape his punishment.
Rowena's hands balled into fists. "Heh. Like father, like daughter.’ No fucking mercy!
After Rowena left, Jenny snorted in disdain before turning to Evan. "Thank you for tonight, Evan. It was nice hanging out with you.’ But Evan was paying attention to Rowena in the distance, brow furrowed in concentration.
"Evan?" Jenny called again.
The man returned to his senses. "No need to thank me, Jen. We can hang out more if you want to in the future."
"Aw, there's no need for that. Fun is only fun in short bursts here and there.’ Jenny shook her head. She didn't want to go to concerts often.
Evan beamed nonetheless. "Go on in. I'll leave once you're inside." "Alright.
Drive safe." Jenny waved at him and then turned to go home.
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 833-Was It Fun?
When Jenny entered the living room, Graham was still fuming from his conversation with Rowena. He hadn't anticipated how bold she was, even begging for Randy’s life.
Jenny noticed how angry her father was and asked kindly, "What’s up, Dad?"
Only then did Graham come to his senses. "Nothing much, just Rowena. She asked if I could let Randy go. I don't understand where she got her confidence from."
"No point ruminating on it. We’ll never understand people's minds." The Glasses were important to Rowena. That woman was even willing to destroy the family she married into, so Jenny wouldn't put this past her.
Graham sighed, dropping the topic. "It's late. Did you do overtime?” "Nah. Evan invited me for dinner, then we went to a concert." Jenny poured a glass of water as she spoke, then sat across Graham, The man seemed pleased by that. "How was it? Was it fun?"
"It was alright." Not too fun. Just…normal.
"You've heard of the circulating rumors, haven't you?" Graham then asked, observing Jenny’s minute reactions to see what she felt about them.
Jenny eyed him cautiously, immediately seeing through him. "I have. You wouldn't be responsible for them, would you?"
If it weren’t for Graham allowing such gossip, it would've died out at the first squeak.
The man grinned, not answering her question. "So what if it was me?
Would you take Evan as your husband if he wants to be?"
Jenny rolled her eyes. "How would you know if he wanted to? He's a good man with his fair share of women to choose from, I'm sure."
"So you'll accept him if he marries into the family?" Graham asked, knowing deep down that Evan would more than welcome the idea.
Jenny set her glass down, clearing her throat. "Dad, I really don't see him as anything more than a friend. Please don't worry about it."
"Really? But I heard you liked him when you were younger, even confessed your love for him." He had settled the idea that Jenny was interested in Evan the moment he was told this. So why were things not turning out the way he expected them to?
"How many years has it been since, Dad? Who made it so that your crush from when you were a kid should last for the rest of your life?" Jenny sighed.
Who the hell set these social rules? First Gilbert, and now her own father.
Graham seemed glum. "You really don't have feelings for him?"
"Not the kind you think I have. The most I see him is like a brother, like Zack and Gilbert, but incomparable, of course."
Graham sighed. "Oh, Jenny. And here I was, hoping to start looking for your mother once you're married."
"Hey, I’m not stopping you from looking for Mom. You don't have to wait for things to happen on my end." They were both independent individuals. No point in waiting for one to make a move first
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 834-d Then Graham knew his daughter wasn't being sarcastic. "I just worry about you, you know."
"I know, but you don't need to. I've survived on my own all these years, haven't I?" She was already an adult, for God's sake.
But the man felt guiltier hearing that. "It's because you had to survive on your own without my help that I feel guilty, Jenny. All I hope is that you can finally find a nice young man to be with so he can protect you when I can't."
"Then you've got it wrong, Dad. There's no upside to relying on others these days." She had never considered finding someone to protect her. Even if she did, she wanted to actually like that person.
Graham shook his head, sighing again. "Where you got your steadfastness from, I have no idea."
Jenny smiled but said nothing in return.
"You still have feelings for Alec Faust, don't you?* her father asked, still worried.
Jenny stiffened up instantly. She hadn't prepared herself for that question." Why do you ask? It's been ages since we were together.’ "Love doesn't always thin with time. Sometimes it can even grow stronger and deeper.’ Just like the love Graham had for Jenny's mother. It had been decades since he'd seen her. He still didn't know if she was alive, yet he still loved her deeply.
Jenny pursed her lips, staying silent now.
Graham sighed a third time. He had only guessed before, but it was confirmed now. "I don't oppose the relationship, in truth. I just worry you'll be hurt again.
But I know what my Jenny is like. She'll protect herself from harm."
Worried as he was, he knew he had to let go one day.
Jenny wrinkled her nose. "Focus on enjoying your retirement now, please. You don't need to fret about me any longer."
"You're right. Now that you are in charge of the family business, I can pursue other passions." Graham nodded, trusting Jenny.
The woman glanced at him. "Are you really going to look for my mother?"
"Mhm. I've wanted to long ago, but just delayed it on and on. I hope your mother still remembers me."
"Do you know her whereabouts?"
"Sadly, no.’ Graham huffed. He would've gone after her ages ago if he knew.
"Then what's your plan?" Jenny frowned.
"There's bound to be clues somehow. I had the portraits of the people who took your mother away drawn. We should be able to trace them." As long as those people were still alive, Graham trusted his ability to hunt them down.
Jenny wasn't so optimistic. It had been years, after all. People change. Still, she didn't discourage him. "Go ahead then."
She knew that was the one thing her father would want to accomplish before his time, or he'd live in regret for the remainder of his life.
"I'll find her, Jenny, and we'll finally reunite. I want to show her how beautiful and strong our daughter has become." Graham smiled warmly, feeling hopeful.
Jenny smiled and nodded. "This might be good for him," she thought.
People often found life more enjoyable once they had a purpose after all.
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 835-Don't Overestimate Yourself The following days passed by peacefully. Jenny got used to going to work at the hospital every day while being updated with progress at her companies. She had her personal space most of the time, so life now was much more enjoyable than she had given it credit for.
When she heard about Randy's death, Alec was just knocking on her door.
Jenny was less reluctant to push him out now, likely because he had saved her from certain death those nights ago.
She hung up her call, then chewed on her lip in thought. After a while, she asked Alec, "Did you do this?"
"What?" Alec blinked, not understanding her question.
"Randy Glass is dead." He was found dead in his cell before the date of his trial, which, to Jenny, only indicated that something was wrong.
The only person she could imagine having sent the kill order would be Alec.
The man instantly understood what she was asking. He shook his head." Wasn't me."
Jenny frowned. "Really?"
Who could it be, then? It couldn't be her father, right?
Yeah, impossible. He had already left Bardoff. Plus, if he'd wanted to do something to Randy, he wouldn't have waited until now.
Alec smiled bitterly. "Am I that untrustworthy to you?"
"I don't mean it like that. I just can't imagine who else it might be."
As much as she hated Randy, she didn't want him to die just like that. The law was always the way for Jenny. If the court held that Randy was to be sentenced to capital punishment, then he would be. If otherwise, Jenny wouldn't complain either. But now, the cause of his death was a mystery.
Alec tried guessing who it could be but didn't reveal it to Jenny when a possible candidate surfaced.
"Don't worry. We didn't do it, so we have nothing to be afraid of," he reassured her with a smile. ’By the way, you haven't answered me about lunch.’ "Don't you have work to do? I heard Xavier and Yakov are teaming up.
Aren't you worried?" Jenny had been paying attention to the Fausts as well.
She got the most important news from the bar Alfred opened. After vigorous training, Melissa had now become its owner as well as her primary source of underground information in Bardoff.
"Is that concern for me that I hear?"
Jenny responded with an eye roll.
"I have everything under control. Things would actually suck if they didn't take action since I've done all the preparations to meet them head-on." Only by seeing what tricks those two had up their sleeve would Alec be able to retaliate properly.
Jenny didn't understand those tactics, however. ’Just be careful. Don't overestimate yourself.’ Alec's luck might run out if the Fausts went after him again.
"I'll be alright." No way would he tolerate losing his memories twice.
In the end, Jenny went to lunch with Alec, deciding to pay for it in return for him saving her life. Alec, however, saw it as progress in their relationship.
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 836-Do You Wanna Take His Place?
Evan walked out of Walter Inc building and got into his car, the pleasant smile on his face disappearing instantly.
"It's done, Boss,’ someone reported to him.
Evan nodded. "No traces?"
"None. You can trust our skill, Boss."
Evan nodded again, satisfied.
But the man continued, "But Boss, how did that Glass kid piss you off for you to have sent us after him?"
That was the first time the Boss had sent them on a job after returning to the country, so they were quite interested to hear the reason behind it.
"He nearly killed someone I care deeply about." Came the response. "That's why."
If his trial had landed him in capital punishment, Evan wouldn't have done it. He couldn't tolerate Randy being alive any longer after nearly taking Jenny away from him.
The men didn't know who this person Evan cared about was, but they didn't pry.
So long as their Boss tasked them with a job, they'd get it done, no questions asked.
"Any updates on Alec Faust?"
"No, sir. He lives a very routine life. We didn't discover anything special."
Evan cocked his head curiously. Alec would lose his neck at any moment now that those two Fausts were working together. Was he really that unconcerned?
Evan hummed. "Keep an eye on him."
"Yes, Boss.’ After getting more updates from his men, Evan left the car in silence. He didn't want anyone to find out about his other identities, nor did he want these gangs of men working for him revealed. All he wanted sometimes was to continue working like a normal person at Walter Inc. Of course, marrying Jenny would be the ultimate goal.
With that in mind, he called her number, thinking of asking her out for lunch.
"Sorry, Evan. I'm occupied right now," the response came over the phone. Evan seemed to sound cheery when he replied with, "That's alright," but his expression immediately darkened once he hung up.
Jenny, meanwhile, tucked her phone away under Alec's inquisitive gaze." Was that Clarke?"
"Mhm." Jenny nodded, taking a bite of her burger.
"Are you really okay with him marrying into your family?" Alec asked worriedly.
The sudden question threw Jenny off. "That's none of your business, now is it?"
Alec pouted slightly. "Sorry. I’m just…worried."
Jenny sighed. "What about? This has nothing to do with you."
"Of course it does. If he does this, I have no chance with you anymore." Jenny's close relationship with Evan had never stopped worrying him.
Jenny groaned tiredly and huffed, "So? Do you want to take his place?"
"If you'll have me, sure." As long as he could be with Jenny, it didn't matter whose surname he had.
Jenny felt a mix of surprise and shock. "You'd really be okay with that?" "Of course. The question is: would you?"
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 837-You'd Gain A Lot From Marrying Me "What about the Fausts?" Jenny asked curiously.
Alec grinned. "They’ll be my dowry. That way, the Walters will be number one in the Ten Elites of Bardoff. What do you think?"
"Sounds like a dream." Heck, she had a feeling Alec might not even be bluffing.
But…
Did she actually want that?
There was no decipherable answer she could find from her heart.
Her silence encouraged Alec to continue, "Well? What do you think? You'd gain lots from marrying me."
Far more than marrying Evan, in the least.
"Ugh." Jenny rolled her eyes again and dropped the topic. Besides the fact that Alec marrying into the Walters was incredibly far-fetched, there was still the fact that she didn't want it to happen.
The family was already occupied enough with Evan in the picture. They didn't need Alec getting in the mix.
Alec smiled but decided not to respond. Of course, having Jenny marry into his family would be more ideal. Still, he didn't mind the opposite, as long as Jenny allowed it.
While the two had their lunch, Evan stopped by the restaurant. He'd investigated Jenny's whereabouts, as she wouldn't be occupied for no good reason. Sure enough, here she was, having lunch with Alec.
He got out of the car and walked steadily into the building, right up to Jenny's table. "What a coincidence!"
Jenny was surprised to see him. "Evan?"
"I thought to come by here for lunch. I didn't expect to see you here!" Evan gasped in faux surprise.
Alec scowled internally at his act. He refused to believe Evan didn't purposely look for them. What was important was whether Jenny felt the same way, however.
Jenny actually did. She wasn't young and foolish anymore, so she wouldn't rip off Evan's mask, either. "Yeah, Mr. Faust asked me out for lunch."
"For a business deal?" Evan asked, sitting down comfortably beside Jenny.
Alec's face darkened. "For private reasons."
In other words: stay the fuck out of my business.
"Is it over?" Evan asked.
Alec was about to say no when Jenny said, "Just about. We've finished lunch, too. Can you drop me off back at the hospital?"
"Why the rush? I haven't eaten yet. You don't mind, do you, Mr. Faust?" Evan shrugged. He wanted to see just what Alec had in mind.
Coincidentally, Alec felt the same.
The two men sat across one another, seemingly polite, though Jenny knew better. That's why she wanted to leave.
"If memory serves me right, it's been at least two years since the divorce happened between you and Jen, right, Mr. Faust? What private matter could you have sought out Jenny for in that case? You're not using it as an excuse to pester her, are you?" Evan asked harshly.
Alec's smile grew wider. "Yes, we divorced a while back. But that doesn't stop me from pursuing Jenny a second time. I'm sure you can understand, Mr.
Clarke." "Of course I do." Evan gritted his teeth. "But you should know that pestering someone will only make them hate you more."
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 838-How Many Times?!
Jenny was getting really fed up with the two men. "If an argument is what you want, then I'm leaving."
She couldn't stop them, nor could she bear another second of their testosterone-filled contest. Leaving was the best option.
Hearing that, both men immediately shut up Only then did Jenny sigh, glad to see they hadn't lost their mind.
The food Evan ordered arrived, making Jenny wait an hour or so before she could finally be driven back to the hospital.
Even before she could go back to work, the two men got into another argument about who should send her back. It took a good ten minutes before either of them realized Jenny was gone, having long taken a cab.
Alec laughed to himself, imagining how impatient Jenny must've looked.
Evan didn't understand the man now. “Can't you see how Jenny has no interest in you? I'd stop bothering her if I were you?
"Really? I don't see it." Alec shrugged. He actually felt like Evan was the object of Jenny's dislike. Otherwise, she’d have insisted on Evan sending her back just now.
"Alec Faust!" Evan yelled, angry now. "How many goddamned times do you plan to hurt Jenny’s feelings?!’ Alec instantly grew solemn. He said seriously, "I have been serious about her since before you returned to the country, so what right do you have to accuse me? If you wanted what's best for Jenny, Clarke, you'd let her make her own decision instead of wasting your time arguing with me."
He didn't want his time wasted on Evan anyway. He wasn't the one interrupting his lunch with Jenny. Alec firmly believed that people fated to be together would eventually cross paths again.
Evan's sore spot had been prodded. In truth, he didn't have enough faith in himself to win Jenny over, and that was why he was worried to see her spending so much time with Alec. He knew Jenny didn't have those feelings for him.
Otherwise, they wouldn't still be so polite with one another. Nor was he on par with her adoptive brothers or even Alec. So, of course, Evan panicked.
Alec didn't waste another minute on the man. He left with his own car by the restaurant, leaving Evan with his thoughts.
From that day on, Jenny turned down every single lunch and dinner date from both Alec and Evan, opting to dine alone rather than risk the two men going head to head again.
She never expected to find James in a cafe she chose for lunch, seemingly on a date…
James hadn't spotted her. He was focused on the woman in front of him instead.
"What do you think of this place, Mr. Windsor?" she cooed. She appeared modest but charming, looking quite compatible with James.
The man merely huffed. "It's meh."
Clearly not expecting such a response, the woman's expression fell. She had chosen that place fortheir date, so was James criticizing the restaurant itself or her taste?
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 839-What Do You Think?
"It seems you're not too inclined to continue this lunch date, Mr. Windsor.' Her family was incomparable to the Windsors, sure, but that didn't mean she was undeserving of basic respect.
James eyed her curiously, thinking the woman might act like the others before her-appealing to his good graces as if nothing had happened. He set his glass down. "You're right. I don't think we're a good match."
"Very well." The woman nodded. "Thank you for being direct and for not wasting my time, Mr. Windsor. But if you don't mind me asking, I'm sure you've been on countless blind dates. Has no woman ever caught your fancy?' James frowned, not wishing to answer.
But the woman went on, "I heard you liked the Walters' eldest daughter. Sadly, she didn't feel the same way. Then you got into a mess with the younger daughter. I heard she's still living with you. So tell me, are you rejecting me now because of the elder one or the younger one?"
Her circle held onto gossip like a starving man with food. She had personally been curious about it since the words first spread.
James' face had long turned stormy. "I'm rejecting you because I don't find you attractive."
Upset by his words, the woman scoffed, "Rude!"
She then marched away, storming out of the cafe. There was not much else she could do. He was James Windsor, after all.
While James was still processing his anger, the seat across him was quickly taken up again.
"Fuck off!" he roared without looking at who it was.
"Ooh. Looks like someone's angry," Jenny teased. It had been a while since she properly talked to James. She didn't even know he was going on blind dates again. She'd heard the topic of engagement dissolution between James and Jolene, but since James never really suggested it, she hadn't replied in kind.
James stared at Jenny in shock. "Jenny? What are you doing here?"
"To eat, duh. I didn't expect to see you here, though."
"Did you come alone?" James eyed their surroundings briefly. He'd heard that Evan was getting closer to Jenny, nearly spending every day together, so it was quite a surprise to see Jenny by herself.
Jenny sighed and thought, "Can't I have lunch alone?"
James smiled. "How’ve you been? What's it feel like being President of Walter Inc."
"It's nothing special. You know I don't care about these sorts of things." She neither felt proud nor accomplished when it came to the business world.
James nodded. "Good on you then. I'm sure you're really at ease now, especially with people managing things on your behalf."
"You could do so too, you know. You just don't want to take the chance,' Jenny said. All James had to do was trust lower management to bring his business vision to life. Still, Jenny didn't mind. As long as she didn't make the company go bankrupt while under her leadership, she was every step closer to her goal.
