Ch. 781..790
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 781-Their Relationship Isn't What You Think It Is "Dr. Walter said the surgery was a success, but the patient needs to be warded in the ICII. If he gets through tonight without complications, there won't be any major risks down the road."
Paul felt assured by the nurse's explanation. He was initially worried about Jenny operating on Alec because he could not gauge her feelings for him. She could have taken Alec's life in silence by claiming a ’slip-up" in the surgery.
Thankfully, Jenny didn't pull any tricks on Alec.
Soon, Alec was wheeled out from the operating theater to the ICU. Jenny came out and noticed Paul by the entrance. She told him, "The surgery was successful. Please inform Mr. Zachary Faust."
"Sure, I'll let him know." Paul nodded, his worries gone after learning about the successful surgery.
On her way out, she stopped again and said to Paul and Blake, "I need someone to stay guard at the hospital tonight. Which one of you is staying? "
She had announced that on purpose to observe Blake's response.
"I'll stay back. Alec's my boyfriend, after all," Blake volunteered. Now that the surgery was a success, it was time for her to make a move.
Jenny was fine with it, but Paul objected, "It's alright. Miss Watkins, you should go home and have a rest. I'll look after Alec."
He had no trust in Blake, who clearly did not wish to see Alec regain his memories.
"Paul Wagner, are you dead set on turning the Watkins into your enemy?" She choked in anger at Paul's stubbornness. As Alec's girlfriend, she believed that she had all the right to stay back for Alec.
Paul merely smirked. "You're overthinking it. That wasn't what I meant."
"You-" She glared at him, her features contorted in rage. Still, she could not lay a finger on him since they were at the hospital. Finally, she scoffed and left the hospital.
"Whatever! Alec is unconscious anyway. I'll be back when he wakes up," she thought. On top of that, she knew Alec had to rely on the Watkins to gain control of the Faust family. Hence, she wasn't worried that Alec would break up with her after he recovered his memories.
Jenny watched on as Blake marched away. She turned to Paul with an amused expression. "Aren't you worried about getting yourself into trouble, being hostile to Alec's girlfriend?"
"Hmph." Paul scoffed. He didn't care about offending Blake. For some reason, he blurted out to Jenny, 'Alec and Blake's relationship isn't what you think it is.’ "Oh? What's their relationship, then?" she asked with a smile.
Paul wanted to tell her the truth, but he had no guts to do so, especially when Alec chose to keep it under wraps for now. The last thing he wanted was to ruin Alec's grand plan to take over the Faust family.
"You should ask him when he wakes up." Paul thought it was best for Alec to explain his relationship with Blake to Jenny.
Jenny wasn't too interested in the topic. ’It's fine. It was a casual question.
I couldn't care less about their relationship.’ When Jenny was leaving, Paul suddenly asked, ’Is Stephanie…doing well?"
"Oh, Stephanie…" Jenny paused on purpose to savor the anxious look on Paul's face. She laughed at his expression and added, "She's doing fine! Life's been good ever since she parted ways with you. She has a lot of excellent suitors queuing up for her."
His face darkened. "Does she have a lot of suitors?" "Of course! Steph is a decent young lady. It's only normal that men are lining up for her." Smiling, she added, ’Mr. Wagner, did you seriously think that Stephanie could only be with you for the rest of her life?"
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 782-Don't Panic!
Paul glanced at Alec from the ICU entrance and sat by the door. At that moment, he was incredibly troubled by Jenny's words even though he didn't believe her.
He was sure that Stephanie loved him. It would be impossible for her to be with another man in such a short time. But what if…
At that thought, he had the urge to meet with Stephanie and question her. Still, he had to put that on hold because Alec had not woken up.
Meanwhile, Jenny hung around in the staff lounge after the surgery. She didn't have to work the subsequent shift, but she stayed on anyway for reasons unknown. Perhaps, she fully knew what was going on in her mind but was reluctant to admit it.
The hospital was tranquil at night, and Alec was in stable condition. However, the same could not be said for some others in Bardoff City.
At 3 am, Jenny finally managed to fall asleep in the lounge but was woken up by her ringing phone. She shot up, thinking that something might have happened to Alec, only to realize it was a call from Graham's assistant after she picked it up.
"Miss Walter, something bad happened to Mr. Walter." The assistant, Neil Buchanan, sounded anxious. Jenny was fully awake after the initial shock."
What happened? Tell me slowly and clearly."
In no time, she grasped the events that had occurred. The mercenaries hired by the Glasses had made their move-they ambushed Graham on his way home and abducted him. Jenny was the most worried by the fact that Graham had sustained a gunshot wound on his thigh during his abduction, and no one knew if he would receive treatment for the injury.
After hanging up, she was ready to rush to the office, determined to find Graham as soon as possible. On her way out, she was interrupted by another incoming phone call. This time, it was a call for help from Jolene.
"James is in trouble! Please save him."
Jenny heard Jolene's tearful voice from the other end. Feeling distressed, she asked, "What's the matter?"
"A group of foreigners broke in and took him away." Jolene sounded like she had no idea about the identities of those men. Perhaps, she had formed a guess, but she was too scared to confirm her suspicions.
Frowning deeper, Jenny finally discovered the Glasses' motive through their abduction of Graham and James. After hanging up, she scrambled to get help for the search while leaving the hospital.
When she arrived at the scene of Graham's abduction, she found a crowd there.
Neil immediately went up to her. "Miss Walter, what do we do now?"
"Don't panic!" She assured him and asked, "Have you contacted the police and checked the surveillance footage?"
"Yes, I've called the police. They said they saw the cars of the abductors leaving the city, but they lost track of the men's whereabouts after that," Neil answered.
There was a lack of surveillance cameras in areas further from the city. If the mercenaries deliberately avoided areas with surveillance cameras, it would be hard to track them down.
"You ask the police to get more hands on deck," she instructed him." James Windsor was abducted as well. Get them to work on that case too.
They might find something."
Neil nodded in bewilderment. Was James Windsor abducted as well? What did the mercenaries plan to do?
"Let's get going,* Jenny shouted, closing the car door.
He was taken aback for a moment before hurriedly jumping into the driver's seat. He drove and asked, puzzled, "Miss Walter, where are we headed?"
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 783-Figure Out an Escape Half an hour later, the car rolled to a stop by the interstate highway.
"The police said they only have surveillance footage up to this point. If we want to investigate further, well have to look into private surveillance cameras,’ Neil briefed Jenny, following closely behind her.
She surveyed the surroundings and noticed the lack of surveillance cameras.
Since the abductors had deliberately dodged the areas with surveillance, they could not be easily tracked down. A short pause later, she instructed him, ’Get someone to make a copy of all available surveillance footage along this route."
"All of them?" Neil sounded doubtful.
"All of them." She nodded. Although Neil was confused, he still carried her orders because she was the de facto head of the Walter family now that Graham had disappeared.
Once he was gone, Jenny drove the car down the route slowly. She wracked her brain to figure out the destination where the abductors were headed with Graham and James. "Could they be kept in the same place?' she wondered.
While she was busy searching for the two men, there was a buzz online over the abduction of Graham Walter and James Windsor. Netizens were in disbelief when the news first broke out. If the two men were still unaccounted for by dawn, the stock prices of their respective family businesses would be in freefall until they breached the price limit.
The Windsors launched a frantic search for James as well, but their efforts have been in vain. The abductors must have been well-prepared; they did not want a repeat of the failed assassination of Jenny.
At the same time, the other families in the Ten Elites were worried for themselves. After all, they had no idea about the identities of the abductors and whether or not the criminals might come for the other families.
In the dead of night, a few cars quietly drove into a small town next to Bardoff City, where the roads were empty. The cars were discreet, not attracting any attention.
Ten minutes later, the cars drove into the grounds of a logging factory. A man jumped out to check the surroundings. He made sure the coast was clear before giving a signal to his partners, who quickly got out of their cars.
Two men were forcefully dragged out of the cars with their heads covered. Had Jenny been there, she would have recognized Graham and James in no time.
They were brought into the factory and locked in an abandoned room, the cloth over their heads removed.
"Mr. Walter." James looked at Graham with concern.
Graham shook his head. "I'm fine. Let's figure out an escape.’ They could not afford to waste another minute in captivity, as that would put them and Jenny at a disadvantage. Until now, they had no idea about the motive of the abductors. If the abductors wanted to assassinate Graham and James, they would not need to bring the two men to the factory—they could have gotten the job done when they captured their victims.
James checked the surroundings and noticed a door and a window. Even if they escaped from the room, they would still be trapped in the logging factory under the watchful eyes of the abductors.
Moments later, he finally calmed down and said, "Mr. Walter, let's stay calm for now. Since they're not after our lives, they must have different demands. That will make things easier.’ He would be more concerned if the abductors had no other demands than taking the lives of the hostages.
"Still, I'm worried they'd go after Jenny." If the abductors blackmailed Jenny with Graham's life on the line, she would definitely cave in. At the mere thought, he'd rather bear the brunt of it.
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 784-Clever Men Graham's worries were not unfounded. James frowned at his words. "I think there’s a tiny possibility of that happening, so we can't rule it out. Why don't we ask them right away?" Then, he kicked the table beside him, and it toppled over.
The huge crash attracted the attention of those who were standing guard outside. Someone entered the room—it was the blond man, the same one that had attacked Jenny.
"Wow! What do you want, gentlemen? You don't act like prisoners, do you?" He was pissed when he detected no hint of fear on Graham and James' faces.
James ignored his smirk and asked, "What do you want?"
The blond man was stunned by James' boldness. Then, he chuckled and said, "You two are clever men." He didn't abduct them for no good reason. If he had followed the instructions of the Glasses, he would have killed off the two hostages instead of going through the trouble of hiding them.
James scoffed, thinking, "Isn't that obvious? I don't even need to guess."
"I bet you know who's behind all this. Had I strictly followed their orders, you'd both be dead by now," the blond man went on, but he saw no fear in Graham or James. He added, "The Glasses offered us 300 million dollars to take your lives.
It's up to you how much you're willing to offer us to save yourselves."
James frowned. "Aren't you worried that your international reputation would be ruined if you take advantage of both sides?" Jenny had told him that the mercenaries refused her offer to pay them in exchange for her life during her assassination attempt. Why did they change their tone now?
"We would have feared the Glasses in the past because of their influence. But now…" He chuckled. "I have you to thank."
If the Walters and the Windsors didn't crush the Glasses, the blond man wouldn't have had the guts to pull off such a sly trick. And he never planned to release Graham and James in the first place-he planned to take their money and lives.
The mercenaries had not had a good time of late. They were in constant hiding from being hunted by Graham and James. On top of that, they had to run away from Clusia's police. Even if they received their pay, they had to figure out a way to exit Clusia, which would be a massive headache.
With that in mind, the blond man was adamant about not letting Graham and James go. No matter what, he had to make a quick buck out of them to make up for their losses before.
"How much do you want?" James asked. He was willing to pay any price for his life as it was more valuable than money. He was also worried by the sight of Graham's wounded leg. "If you want our money, you have to at least keep us alive, right? Stop Mr. Walter's bleeding now. You won't see a single dime if anything happens to him."
The blond man stared at Graham's wound and agreed, "No problem." He ordered one of his men to stop the bleeding. One could not help but be amazed by the plethora of talents under the blond man. The man bandaged Graham's wound fast, but Graham had to wait until he was sent to the hospital to get the bullet removed.
"I will need 300 million dollars from each of you. A fair price, right? You're both filthy rich anyway," the blond man negotiated. Even though it was a dangerous mission, he was rewarded with equally handsome pay. If Graham and James paid up, adding the Glasses' money, that would be a grand total of 900 million dollars. The group of mercenaries might as well retire after the lucrative deal.
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 785-Pay Up or Die Graham and James were well aware of the blond man's craftiness but did not object to the ransom amount.
"Money is not a problem. But how can you guarantee you'd let us go after you get the money?" James asked. In his eyes, the abductors had no credibility at all.
"Mr. Windsor, just trust us,” the blond man offered a lackadaisical promise, unconcerned with whether Graham and James were convinced, knowing full well they had no other option. His hostages didn't have the luxury of giving up their only hope, even if he walked back on the promise. That was the reason behind his cockiness.
James glanced at him but did not call him out. "How about this? We'll pay you the first 300 million dollars to release Mr. Walter. You can let me go when you receive the second payment," he suggested. At the very least, one of them could be free. Graham would be safe even if the blond man took back his word.
"No!" Graham spoke ahead of the blond man. "James, you leave first. I'll be the last to go." He and James knew that the blond man wouldn't free them both.
Whoever was left behind would lose his life. Putting aside the business partnership between the Walters and the Windsors, the fact that James was Jenny’s senior meant Graham wouldn't do that to him.
"Mr. Walter…’ "James Windsor!" Graham growled quietly. "Listen to me. I only have one request-please go easy on Jo if you can." He sighed, knowing it was too much to ask from James, especially at that moment, but he was at the end of his wit.
He wasn't worried about Jenny because he had everything arranged at Walter Inc. Even if someone wanted to sabotage the company, he believed that Jenny could handle the challenge. The same could not be said for Jolene. He sensed that the Windsors would call off the engagement soon, which was not surprising, but he hoped that James could show mercy to her after the failed engagement.
He still cared a lot about Jolene because she was his daughter.
The mood became somber. James stared at Graham in silence.
On the other hand, the blond man burst out laughing. He squatted and held James by the chin. "Who told you I'd consider your suggestion? Why are you discussing who'd leave first when I have not given you the green light?"
"You…"
"Cut the nonsense. Pay up or die.’ He let go of James and shot him an icy look without giving him a chance to speak. Then, he dropped a phone in front of them. ’Call your family. You should know what to say to them," he said before drawing out a gun and sitting in front of them.
Seeing that, James exchanged looks with Graham and finally picked up the phone. He called Jenny instead of the Windsor Villa landline.
Jenny's first reaction to unknown calls was usually to slide and decline. She was putting all her effort into tracking the car that Graham and James were in and was in no mood to take any calls. However, she picked up the incoming call without thinking since she had a gut feeling it was important.
"Who's this?" she asked, voice trembling.
"It's me."
Her eyes widened in shock and joy when she heard James' voice. "James, where are you and Dad? Are you both safe?" She was dying to get more details, but at the same time, she scribbled something on the notepad and handed it to Neil, who was right beside her.
The note read: "Track this number down."
Neil glanced at the note and sprung into action without hesitation.
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 786-Are You Threatening Me Now?
James wanted to chat with Jenny, but the blond man was aiming the gun at him.
His intention was obvious; he didn't want James to waste time.
James said, "They told me they'll only let us go if we pay 300 million dollars each."
"Tell him that's not a problem, but we will do the exchange in person," Jenny replied.
The blond man heard her answer through speaker mode and said, ’Wire the money. I will text you the account later. Remember, Miss Walter, you don't have a choice now."
Hearing that, she bit her lips, struggling to keep her composure. "Okay. But I need to talk to my dad. I need to make sure he's safe." Knowing that Graham was shot in the thigh, she'd be worried if she couldn't verify that he was safe.
The blond man was happy to oblige her at the thought of the incoming 600 million dollars. James handed the phone to Graham. Graham took the call and assured her, "Jenny, I'm fine."
"Dad, don't worry. I'll get you out," she comforted him and added, ’Is everything okay over there?"
"It's okay, but I feel sick from the smell of wood in the air. You know I have rhinitis. It's quite uncomfortable for me," he answered.
She got the hint and said, "Just hang on for a little bit more. I'm calling up some connections and gathering the money."
"Sure. I trust you. Don't be too sad if anything happens to me, though. I'm happy as long as you're safe." Graham did not carry much hope at this point. He knew the mercenaries might not release him and James even if the ransom was paid.
He wasn't too bothered about his safety but felt sorry for James, who had many years ahead of him. Graham made it his mission to get James out no matter what.
Jenny felt uneasy when she heard his words. "You'll be fine." She glanced at Neil, asking him with her eyes if he had pinned down the location.
Neil shook his head. He needed more time.
Feeling defeated, Jenny decided to buy time. Alas, the blond man was no fool.
"End the call now. She will gather the money. I want it in my account in an hour, or you're all dead."
Graham repeated the threat to Jenny.
"Hand him the phone. Tell him I need to talk to him." Jenny refused to hang upshe needed to buy time for her team. Even so, she couldn't place her father in danger. The only way left was to talk to the abductor.
The blond man was surprised when Graham handed him the phone. He took it and scoffed, "Miss Walter, I don't know you well. What is it that you want to talk about?"
“You're Kevin, right? I have nothing much to talk to you about. Just one question; have you ever thought about how you're leaving Clusia after creating this huge mess?" Jenny announced his name out loud. Since her last encounter with them, she had looked into the background of the mercenaries and got hold of Kevin's name.
The blond man frowned. ’Are you threatening me now?"
"Well, it's not exactly a threat. Just a friendly reminder." She sounded hostile.
Then, she suggested, "If you keep my dad and James safe, I can help you out."
Kevin was silent. She added, "Even if you receive the money, you can't leave Clusia. What's the point of it all?"
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 787-Killing Two Birds with One Stone Kevin was well aware of the obstacles in his path that Jenny brought up. More than that, he wanted to understand her motive. Perhaps, he now had a newfound respect for her because she had survived their attack. "Miss Walter, what do you want out of this?’ "My goal is simple; do not lay a finger on your hostages. If you're worried about revenge from the Glasses, I can solve that problem for you." Jenny was satisfied with her proposed solution. Kevin had no good reason to turn her down unless he didn't want to get out of Clusia safely.
Indeed, Kevin hesitated at the attractive offer. The problem of leaving Clusia after getting the ransom weighed heavily on his mind.
Jenny remained calm in the face of his silence. At the same time, she urged Neil to work faster to locate Graham and James.
Two minutes later, Kevin chuckled. 'Til consider your suggestion."
"Great. I'll wait for your reply," Jenny replied. Kevin hung up soon after when she did not insist on staying on the line. Pushing it too far might attract his suspicion.
All her efforts would go down the drain if he moved his men elsewhere. After the call, she hurriedly asked Neil, "Have you located them? N "I don't have the exact location, but I know they're in a small town further south of Glensbury. This town borders Bardoff City," he answered.
She had no further questions as she stood up to leave. "Look into that town for any place related to wood."
Graham gave her a crucial hint when he mentioned the smell of wood in the air.
He was trying to reveal to her the details of the location where they were kept.
With one sentence, Graham had helped with the search under their current limitations.
Jenny rushed to the small town from Bardoff City with her team. It would take them a good forty minutes, meaning they only had twenty minutes to start the search locally before they had to wire the ransom. Money was never an issue for Jenny. She was more worried that Kevin would kill off his hostages after receiving the transfer. That was why she refused to wire the money until the very last minute.
Meanwhile, Kevin had left the room where he kept Graham and James at the logging factory. He lit a cigarette in the yard, debating whether to kill his hostages according to plan or keep them alive for Jenny's help in crossing the border. He had no doubt about her capabilities because she was a Walter, one of the Ten Elites. The threat hanging over him was mainly from the Walters and the Windsors. If the Walters could take care of the police, crossing the border would be a piece of cake.
One of his men came over and asked, concerned, "Boss, are we releasing those two after we get the money?"
"What do you think?" Kevin shot back.
"We can't let them go. They look dangerous. If we release them, they'll be after us in the next second. We'll be screwed," the man opined.
Kevin nodded in agreement. However, he knew that Jenny wouldn't take it lying down if they killed Graham and James. He felt a headache creeping up at the thought.
Some serious thinking later, he got an idea. "Let's not do anything to them. We'll get Jenny Walter to help us cross the border. At that time, we will kill them off.
We get to leave Clusia and not worry that they'll take revenge. Isn't that killing two birds with one stone?’ Jenny wouldn't pull any tricks as long as Graham and James were in captivity.
Kevin grinned, confident in his foolproof scheme to secure the ransom and make a clean getaway from Clusia.
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 788-Are All Your Memories Back?
Sunlight poured into the hospital room. Alec opened his eyes and was greeted with the sight of the white ceiling above his head. Briefly dazed, he furrowed his brows in pain when a rush of painful memories flooded in. That was perhaps the reason his heart rate increased, causing the machine at the headboard to beep incessantly.
A nurse immediately rushed in to check on him. Call the doctor," she told another nurse. She checked Alec's vitals while the other went to get the doctor.
When the doctor arrived, Alec was finally feeling like himself. He could recall all the memories from his past, but that overwhelmed him a little. Once the doctor was done with the check-up, he called out to Alec, "Mr. Faust?"
Although there didn't seem to be any issues with Alec's physical health, the doctor noticed that Alec's mental state seemed off. "Could something else be wrong with him?" the doctor wondered.
"Yeah, I’m fine,’ Alec answered, voice hoarse. He hadn't taken any solids or liquids after the surgery.
Since Alec could speak and articulate, the doctor believed he was doing fine.
’Transfer him to an ordinary ward and tell the family to bring him food. But remind them not to overfeed him." The doctor gave out orders and was ready to leave.
"Where's Dr. Walter?’ Alec asked, stopping the doctor in his tracks.
Jenny was the first person that Alec wanted to meet after waking up, but he dreaded the meeting too.
"It's her day off today. She's not at the hospital," the doctor replied and left the room.
Soon, Alec was transferred to an ordinary ward. Paul, who received the news, visited him with some soup.
"Have some soup." Paul helped him to sit on the bed and fed him. Alec was unresponsive and rigidly took the soup when fed to him. His response was rather worrying. A few spoonsful later, Paul paused and said, "The doctor said not to feed you too much. I'll stop at a few spoons."
"Okay," Alec answered, but he still appeared dazed, perhaps from the influx of memories.
Paul was at a loss. ' Are all your memories back?’ "Yeah," Alec grunted and looked at his friend after a pause. "Thank you for all you've done for me." Although he regained his lost memories, he hadn't forgotten the time when he was suffering from memory loss. He had nothing but gratitude for his friend.
"Oh well, we're friends." Paul grinned. He didn't regard what he had done as particularly praiseworthy and believed that Alec would have done the same for him. Although they clashed a few times because of Jenny, those arguments would not affect their friendship. Alec fell into silence again, and Paul was worried for him. "So, now that your memories are back, are you clear about your feelings for Jenny?’ Alec remained quiet as he struggled to explain his feelings to Paul.
"It's alright. You shouldn't be thinking too hard because you've just woken up.
Have a good rest and save the mental exercise for later.’ Paul decided to put a stop to the grilling.
After reminding Alec to rest well, he was about to leave when Alec blurted out, "How about Jenny? Is she…really not at the hospital?"
He had anticipated Jenny looking after him at the hospital. At the very least, he expected her to wait until he woke up. Therefore, he didn't believe the doctor who said Jenny was not around.
Paul seemed to read Alec's mind and added helpfully, "She stayed by your side and went home at midnight."
That information was enough to light up Alec's expression.
Paul shook his head and sighed, thinking, "Does he still not realize his feelings for her? It is obvious enough."
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 789-Get Ready to Retreat When morning came, the news of Graham and James' abductions was at the center of public attention as the business day started. As Jenny expected, the stock price of Walter Inc and Windsor Corp took a plunge right as the market opened. The two families had no choice but to release a joint statement to assure the investors about Graham and James' safety, promising that the incident would not have any material impact on the two companies.
Jenny didn't have to worry about that because she had a team to deal with public relations. She had arrived at the small town and began exploring every nook and cranny that had anything to do with logs.
Ten minutes away from the one-hour deadline, she was sweating profusely and still stuck in the middle of the search. She had also instructed her staff to wire Kevin the money right in time to be safe.
At the logging factory, Kevin stared at his phone, annoyed he hadn't received the wire notification. ’Call Jenny Walter and ask her if she is giving up on you.' An hour was more than enough for her to gather the money for the ransom.
Jenny received another call, which she instantly picked up. "James?"
"Hey, Jenny," James replied but did not bring up the topic of ransom.
Kevin was already upset, and James' nonchalant demeanor of making small talk instead of asking about the money grated on his nerves. His blood boiled at the sight as he kicked James. "Wanna die?’ Kevin picked up the phone from the floor when James fell. "Jenny Walter, where's the money? Why haven't I received it? Are you fooling with me?' "I thought you gave me an hour. I'm still gathering the money,’ Jenny answered, but she secretly asked the people around her to pin the location of the call.
Kevin snickered, "You're taking me as a fool. Did you really think I have no idea what you're up to? You're buying time to search for me."
Jenny said nothing to him. Secretly, she felt a little anxious. If Kevin saw through her plan but didn't leave his hiding spot, he must be very confident. That left her feeling rather unsettled.
"Let me tell you. You can't do anything even if you locate us. Do you think you can take my hostages from me?" Kevin smirked, knowing that his lackeys were capable of putting up a good fight.
Jenny did not say a word.
"Get ready to collect their bodies if I don't see that money within three minutes."
With that, he hung up.
Jenny took a deep breath to calm herself. "Have we located them?"
"It's not too accurate, though. They're somewhere in the southwest."
Jenny nodded and led a team to hurry in that direction. Meanwhile, she informed the person in charge of wiring money about the three-minute deadline.
Perhaps Jenny was blessed by God on that day, for the team discovered a logging factory soon after. The factory was in the southwest, and its surroundings were extremely quiet. Someone had obviously cleared the vicinity earlier.
Jenny instructed her team to hide well while she started observing the area.
Three minutes later, the money was wired to Kevin. He finally smiled when he saw the notification. ’Boys, the money's in. Get ready to retreat."
Once they received the ransom, their next step was to move toward the borders.
Before that, Kevin made a call to Jenny. "Miss Walter, I'm delighted with our 'partnership' just now. Now, it's time to start a second partnership. We need to leave via the borders, and you need to make sure that immigration lets us go. I will keep your dad and the Windsor guy alive once we're free."
Kevin's words frustrated Jenny. She was smart enough to understand that Kevin was stringing her along, and she refused to believe that they'd release the hostages after they crossed the border.
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 790-We Can't Save Them Kevin's anxiety grew when he received no answer. "Miss Walter, do you want your father dead?"
"I promise,” she sighed, feeling that she was at the mercy of the mercenaries.
Still, she was not too concerned now that her team had tracked down their location. As long as she tailed them, she would have a chance to rescue Graham and James.
Kevin let out a relieved sigh. For a second, Jenny got him thinking that she refused to entertain him. "Good thing that the Clusians are soft-hearted," he thought.
After the call, Jenny hid well to keep herself out of sight from Kevin and his men, whom she expected to leave soon.
Just as she had guessed, ten minutes later, there was movement at the logging factory not far away. The sight of Kevin exiting the factory with his men brought relief to Jenny as it proved her search fruitful. She watched Kevin closely as he climbed into a car, his other men occupying the other cars. Soon, she spotted Graham and James being shoved inside one. She immediately arranged for her team to tail the group of men without once letting them fall out of sight.
Seemingly worried about being flagged down by police, Kevin and his men avoided the freeway. Instead, they took an off-beaten path to the border. Since Glensbury and the small town were right next to the border, the journey would only take five to six hours. Given the distance, they could likely reach the border by noon.
Jenny knew that she couldn't keep on tailing Kevin and his men forever because, at this rate, they'd bring Graham and James across the border." Get a few crash-proof cars to ambush them," she instructed Neil. "Wait for my order.
Once it's time, well have those cars crash into them."
"But isn’t that going to provoke them?" Neil was worried.
"No. We're very close to the border. They wont want to waste time here." Her main concern was that Kevin would react to the ambush by holding Graham and James hostage, and she could not give him the chance to do so.
The cars kept going until they reached a fork in the road. Kevin's car slid into one of the forks, and when the second car followed suit, Jenny grabbed the chance and gave the order for the ambush. In the blink of an eye, the second car carrying Graham and James was knocked into a different lane.
Seizing the chance, Jenny immediately ordered her men to speed up and go after the second car. At the same time, Kevin was in a quandary. He'd have to turn back if he wanted to save his men, which would not only be a waste of time but also expose him to an ambush, especially when he had no idea how many men Jenny had brought.
"Let's go!" He bit the bullet and made his decision to abandon the second car.
"Boss, what about them?" His men looked begrudgingly at the second car, which was stalled in the other lane, knowing that their colleagues in that car would be dead meat if they were left behind.
"We can't save them." The level-headed Kevin added, "Tell them to kill Graham Walter and James Windsor."
"Roger that." His men understood they were fortunate to even escape the ambush. They could only hope for the best for their colleagues in the second car.
In the other car, the mercenaries were momentarily stunned after the crash but soon realized that they had been ambushed. They were about to draw their guns when Jenny's men showed up. However, they were not after the mercenaries-their priority was to save Graham Walter and James Windsor.
"Kill the two men." The mercenaries in the second car yelled at their colleagues when they received the order from Kevin. The others promptly pulled out their guns and started shooting at Graham and James
