Ch. 771..780

In other words, she was willing to get to know him better if he could change his behavior. He smiled, feeling speechless. It was a serendipitous moment for him.

"I got it." He nodded as he realized that he needed a change in mindset. He had been obsessed with marrying the right girl, especially one from a wealthy family, to climb the social ladder. It was, honestly, quite pathetic.

"So, tonight…"

"I'll buy you dinner," he replied. They would have a nice dinner before the movies. He had previously perceived McKenna as a young lady who didn't know life's difficulties because she was born into wealth. However, the incident this time changed his impression of her.

She smiled and agreed to dinner.

While Derrick and Mckenna engaged in a pleasant conversation, one where she successfully persuaded him to give up on his feelings for Jenny, at the other table, Jenny was oblivious to what had occurred between the two.

"Evan, how are things going for Gilbert?" Jenny wasn't familiar with business operations and was clueless about Gilbert's company affairs. She heard that he had planned to move his company headquarters from Parrington to Bardoff City, and it seemed he would settle down in Bardoff City for the long term.

Still, Bardoff City wasn't an easy place to live in.

Evan nodded while eating. "It's going smoothly. You must know better about Gilbert's capabilities. Don't worry about him."

"Right." She nodded. She had trust in Gilbert's capabilities as well. But…

She looked at Evan. "Didn't you say that you came home to help Gilbert with his company? Why do you look free on most days?"

He had been visiting her almost every day as though he didn't need to work.

"I have no choice. Gilbert is too capable. My help is not needed." He smiled, noting the suspicion in Jenny's eyes. Gilbert had requested him to come home and pursue Jenny anyway. Work was a second priority at this point.

Jenny looked unconvinced and doubtful, but she didn't press on. "You don't have to visit me every day. There's nothing much going on here."

"No way. We still can't locate the mercenaries. No one knows what they are up to. I have to protect you well," he rejected her suggestion. Since he had promised to protect her, he had to do his best.

The mention of the mercenaries worried her. "Are they still nowhere to be found? I thought the Glasses were bankrupt. How would they even hide the mercenaries?" "God knows." Evan shook his head and added, "The Glasses are bankrupt, but that doesn't mean they lost all their power. The wealth they amassed over the years is enough to pay their expenses for generations

To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 772-Call Off the Engagement?

Jenny agreed with Evan's logic. A family as wealthy as the Glasses would not possibly be unprepared for crises.

"Don't worry about it. Mr. Walter will take care of the problem.’ He understood her concern and offered some words of comfort. She nodded without a word and would rather not fret over those headache-inducing issues.

They dropped the discussion about the Glasses. A short silence later, Evan casually asked, ’Have you checked out Alec Faust's patient record?' "Yeah." She nodded but didn't dwell on the case.

"How's his condition? Are you confident in handling his case?" he prodded.

She placed her cutlery on the table and mulled before answering, "50%? His hematoma is causing pressure on the nerves. There's still a huge risk."

"Why did you agree to perform the surgery, then? If the surgery fails, the Fausts might find trouble with you." In the days after Evan came home, he researched the Ten Elites of Bardoff City and learned that the Fausts were at the top of the ranks. Hence, he was rather concerned about Alec's surgery.

She flashed him a smile. "I don't care which family he belongs to. Since he's here to ask for help, and I have agreed to operate on him, he will be my patient from now on. I have no good reason to turn him away." The reason she practiced as a doctor was to save lives. She would be going against her principles if she rejected Alec's request.

"You haven't changed at all." Evan wasn't surprised at her reply; he knew it was hard for her to say no. He didn't press on further, even if he was unsure and confused about Jenny's feelings toward Alec. The question would be meaningless anyway. It'd be great if Jenny didn't have feelings for Alec; he'd stand a better chance at winning her heart. However, if the opposite were true, he would not easily give up on pursuing her either.

He heard from Gilbert that Alec had hurt Jenny majorly. With this knowledge, he decided not to let Jenny repeat her mistakes.

After lunch, Jenny had to return to work in the afternoon, and Evan had no choice but to leave.

Meanwhile, James was called in for a meeting at the Windsor Manor, where his parents resided. He entered the living room and saw his parents there. They immediately invited him to take a seat.

"What's the matter?" He refused to engage in small talk and went straight to the topic. His parents were slightly irritated by his demeanor but did not fight with him because they had a serious agenda on hand.

"Dad and I wanted to meet you to go over your engagement with Jolene Walter,"

Patricia Nicholson announced. James wasn't shocked because his mom merely confirmed the guess in his mind before he had come over.

She continued, "At first, your dad and I thought she was still a decent match for you because she is the daughter of Graham Walter and Rowena Glass, even though she played dirty. But now…"

She paused for a while to observe Evan's response. He appeared unbothered, so she went on, "The Glasses are in shambles, and Graham Walter made it clear that he doesn't want Jolene to inherit the business. I think she's no longer a suitable candidate for marriage." That was an extremely practical and selfish statement, but to the Ten Elites, marriage was nothing more than a business transaction.

"So, are you saying I should call off the engagement?" He curled his lips into what seemed between a smile and a smirk.

"Yes. That is what your dad and I meant." Patricia had never liked Jolene because of the woman's dirty tricks. She worried that Jolene's marriage to the Windsors would only bring more trouble. Before this, she was more restrained in expressing her distaste, but she no longer needed to worry much about calling off the engagement under the current circumstances. Plus, she never wanted Jolene as her daughter-in-law anyway.

To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 773-Do You Think That's Plausible?

James couldn't contain his laughter. "Dad, Mom, you're too elitist. What would others think of us if they heard about this?"

Their faces fell, embarrassed at being called out. "How could you label us as elitist? Everyone knew what had happened between you and Jolene Walter. In fact, they are laughing at us behind our backs. No one will fault us for calling off the engagement now."

Patricia was a tad worried about James' silence. "Could you have fallen for her?"

"Hah." He scoffed, "Do you think that's plausible?"

She thought about it and shook her head. No, that sounded improbable. She knew James well, and he would never be attracted to sly and calculative women.

"If that's the case, calling off the engagement is the best option for all." No one cared if she hadn't included Jolene's best interests in her blanket statement.

James understood that calling off the engagement was the right course of action. He could not possibly marry Jolene after all. But…

When he was deep in thought, he heard Patricia speaking again. "Your dad and I found a nice lady for you. She's way better than Jolene Walter."

He rolled his eyes at the announcement. Patricia urged him, "Why don't you meet with her when you're free? I promise you'd like her.' "I'm not interested," he objected, but to no avail. Patricia went on, 'How about this? I'll reach out to her and set up a date for the two of you tomorrow."

James said nothing, but he was obviously reluctant to oblige.

"I know marriage isn't on your mind right now, but we can't stand seeing you remain a bachelor and even fall victim to women with ulterior motives. Isnt it better to get married?* she advised him earnestly. She wasn't entirely wrong. If James were married, no woman would approach him with ulterior motives because they wouldn't stand a chance to marry him anyway.

Patricia smiled in the face of his silence. "Alright, it's a deal. I'll share the address with you tomorrow. You should meet her. By the way, what do you think about calling off the engagement?" She gave him another push because he hadn't confirmed his decision, leaving her worried.

He paused for a while and finally said, "Got it. I'll make the necessary arrangements." He would never marry a woman like Jolene, so he might as well call off their engagement.

His parents were visibly relieved when they got his word. Later, James had dinner at the manor before departing for his villa.

Back at the villa, Jolene, who was making dinner in the kitchen, looked surprised at his early return. "Did you get off work early today? Dinner's not ready yet."

"You don't have to make dinner. I had dinner at the Windsor Manor/ he answered as he sat on the couch. He could tell she was preoccupied while she busied herself in the kitchen.

She paused when she learned that he had eaten at the Windsor Manor. Then, she turned off the stove and exited the kitchen. "You went to the Windsor Manor?" she asked, feeling antsy.

"Yeah." He nodded.

"Did your parents ask to meet? Did something happen?" She knew the answer but needed the verbal confirmation she dreaded.

He seemed to read her mind and brought up the topic, "It's no big deal.

They wanted me to call off our engagement. Why did they have to concern themselves with trivial matters?"

It wasn't trivial to Jolene, but it was probably no big deal to James.

"What…what did you answer?" she stared at the man on the couch, knowing her fate was about to be sealed

To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 774-Have Trust in Her James fell into a short silence that gave her some hope. Perhaps, he was hesitant to call off the engagement because he could sense her efforts and sacrifice. Her eyes were sparkling with hope, which didn't escape James' keen observation.

He chuckled. "Did you really think I'd feel sorry to do so?"

Startled, the color on her face quickly went away again.

"I'll announce the cancelation publicly in a few days. You can leave by then, " he informed her. She felt cold from head to toe as she sensed the disdain in his eyes. Yes, he was mocking her.

She maintained her composure with what was left in her. Perhaps, she had matured after going through ups and downs in life. She took a deep breath and uttered, "Sure. Let's do that.' With that, she retired to her bedroom, the only place that belonged to her in the villa. The tiny space wouldn't be hers for long, though. She couldn't hold it in anymore and sobbed in the blanket. Even then, she had to keep the volume down so James wouldn't find out.

On the other hand, James was surprised at how calmly she returned to her room. He expected her to cry and beg him not to call off the engagement.

Hence, he was mentally prepared to deal with the scene, but the announcement went so smoothly that it almost felt surreal, even disturbing.

On the next day, Jenny contacted different hospital departments for a medical consensus on Alec's condition. After a discussion, they decided on the best strategy and the date of the surgery. Later, Jenny had the hospital staff inform Alec about the surgery date instead of doing it herself, mostly because she didn't want any personal contact with him outside of work. She'd delegate anything that she could.

When Alec received the call from the hospital, he agreed to the date but was bothered that Jenny didn't personally contact him to relay the news. He thought, "She really didn't want to have anything to do with me.' "Was that from the hospital? Informing you about the date of the surgery?’ Blake sat across from him and pieced the information together from his conversation.

"Mhmm." He didn't deny it.

She lowered her head, an unreadable look flashing in her eyes. "Is it fixed? I heard that the risk is quite high. What if…"

"I have trust in her,’ he muttered. She unknowingly clenched her fists tighter under the table but kept on smiling. "Is that so? I have heard of Dr. Walter's reputation. They said she never had any failed surgeries. I guess you have a reason to trust her."

Alec did not utter a word. Due to his memory loss, he could not recall anything about Dr. Walter, but he had an unexplainable trust in her, perhaps because she was Jenny Walter.

"In my opinion, your mental health is in good shape now, but if you choose to regain your memories, your current condition might be affected," Blake voiced her concerns, which she had brought up to Alec earlier but ignored. Still, she wanted to remind him of the downside, mostly because she was secretly against the surgery.

She couldn't be sure if Alec's love for Jenny were due to some psychological complex or purely out of attraction. No matter what, if Alec regained his memories, she would be at a disadvantage because there was no significant development in their relationship quite yet.

To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 775-You're Overthinking It "I understood every word you said, but I cant possibly live my life with memory loss. Plus, you know the long-term effects if I do not opt for surgery." Alec examined Blake carefully as though he suspected an ulterior motive.

Blake understood the necessity of the surgery, but she simply hoped that the surgery could be delayed for a few months. She knew better than to say her thoughts aloud, so she muttered, "I know. I'm just worried for you."

"Don't worry. My luck isn't that bad." He wouldn't go down before he could take over the Faust family.

Blake didn't say a word because she knew that any objection would only irk him.

Instead, she turned her attention to Jenny.

On that afternoon, Jenny was surprised to find Blake at her office. "Miss Watkins, are you here to talk to me?"

"Yes," Blake replied. Frowning, Jenny wanted to remind her that it was business hours, but Blake said, "I'm the final patient on your list today. You don't have to worry about the next patient." Then, she handed Jenny her queue number as proof.

Jenny glanced at it and found out that Blake had gone through the routine and lined up for a medical consultation. She asked, "Are you feeling sick anywhere?"

"No. I'm here today to get answers to the case of my boyfriend, Alec Faust, "

Blake went straight to the point.

Jenny felt bothered by Blake's deliberate use of "boyfriend" to describe Alec, but she hid her feelings well and answered, "I have briefed him on the surgery details. I believe he's clear about it."

"Yeah, he is clear about the surgery, but I'm worried,' Blake replied, leaving Jenny flabbergasted and speechless. She added, "Dr. Walter, are you confident about the surgery?"

Frowning, Jenny explained, ’Any surgery comes with risk. No doctor can promise a 100% success rate."

"Well, that's true. But Alec is important to me-he's my lover, and I hope to see him safe and sound." Blake's impassionate confession evoked complex feelings in Jenny, who remained silent. She didn't stop there. "I know his memory loss has always bothered you, and you probably think he'd still be in love with you had he not lost his memories. Is that why you're adamant about helping him restore his memories?"

Jenny finally showed hints of displeasure. "Miss Watkins, you're overthinking it."

"Is that so?" Blake sounded unconvinced. "The only way I'll admit I'm overthinking is that you refuse to perform the surgery."

Jenny burst out in laughter at the absurdness of the situation. "Miss Watkins, Alec Faust is the patient. If you are against the surgery, please change his mind instead of lecturing me. He's the one who wanted the surgery. As his doctor, I can't sit back and watch his condition deteriorate."

"That's not what I meant. I know the surgery is necessary. I just don't want you to be the doctor in charge of his surgery," Blake announced, much to Jenny's dismay. She added, "After all, you had had a complicated relationship with him.

I'm concerned that you might let your personal feelings interfere with the surgery, leading to a regrettable outcome."

To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 776-My Conscience Is Clear Jenny was unable to refute Blake’s seemingly reasonable and confident accusation. In reality, such situations were plausible. If a patient was a loved one of the surgeon, the surgeon might fail to rein in his or her emotions if there was a minor slip-up during the surgery, which might affect the outcome.

However, this wouldn't apply across the board to all doctors, and Jenny believed that she was better than that.

Still, she couldn't fault Blake for voicing out a legitimate concern. After a pause, she suggested to Blake, "That is a valid concern, but you are not his legal wife yet. From a legal perspective, you cannot make decisions on his behalf.

However, you can tell him about your thoughts when you get home. If he shares your concern, I can contact other doctors to step in for me."

She offered sincere advice from her heart, but it sounded like mockery to Blake.

’Are you mocking me for not getting married to him?"

"No, that's not what I meant." The misinterpretation dumbfounded Jenny.

"Dr. Walter, your divorce was ages ago. Why are you still unable to let go of it?"

Blake was slightly enraged and was losing her mind.

Looking at the unreasonable woman, Jenny was uninterested in engaging with her anymore. Talking to someone who was not in the right mind would be a waste of time. She pointed to the door. "Miss Watkins, let's end the conversation here."

"Jenny Walter!" Blake was irritated for not getting the answer she wanted.

Jenny had had enough of it. "Miss Watkins, if you want to make a decision on Alec Faust's behalf, please come to me with your certificate of marriage. "

Before Blake and Alec were married, Blake would not enjoy the right to make any medical decision on his behalf.

Blake knew the underlying meaning of Jenny's words, and her face fell." Jenny Walter, are you sure you want to do this? Aren't you afraid of getting on bad terms with the Watkins?"

"My conscience is clear as his doctor. What should I be afraid of?" Jenny stared into her eyes fearlessly.

Taken aback, Blake laughed and scoffed, "Wow! A clear conscience, huh?"

Then, she stormed out of Jenny's office.

When Blake was gone, Jenny packed her stuff to leave work, unconcerned by Blake's threats. Even if the Watkins, in an unlikely event, went against the Walters because of Alec Faust's surgery, she would not give up on performing the surgery.

When she got home, Graham was already back with an extra guest who shouldn't have shown up. "Jenny! You're home. I made you your favorite dishes.

Come over and dig in." Rowena was busy cooking in the kitchen like a perfect wife.

Jenny ignored her words and looked at Graham. Graham shook his head, indicating he couldn't do anything about the situation. Since his divorce wasn't yet finalized, he didn't want to cause a scene by kicking Rowena out when she wanted to come home.

However, Rowena acted very differently from her past self. She was fussing over Graham when he stepped foot in the house, and she busied herself in the kitchen for dinner. She seemed to be a different person.

Jenny immediately saw through her tricks and exposed her. "Rowena Glass, stop wasting your time. My dad will still divorce you no matter what you do."

To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 777-What Tricks Do You Plan to Pull?

Rowena kept a smile on her face even after being confronted by Jenny." Oh, let's drop that and eat. We can discuss it after dinner." Meanwhile, she went into the kitchen and prepared two more dishes. Then, she took a seat at the table to eat with them.

The trio stared at the dishes on the table, but Jenny and Graham didn't touch the food out of fear that Rowena might have added something to it.

Rowena seemed to read their mind and tested all the dishes in front of them.

"Go ahead. The food's safe to eat."

Jenny and Graham exchanged glances and started eating in silence.

Throughout dinner, Jenny decided she would help keep Graham levelheaded against whatever Rowena wanted to say later. She didn't want Graham to change his mind because of Rowena's words.

In fact, Jenny had underestimated Graham's resolve. He would have overlooked the minor tricks that Rowena pulled, but he wouldn't forgive her for harming the Walters and Jenny. Therefore, Rowena's efforts that day were destined to go down the drain.

After dinner, Jenny sat in the living room and glared coldly at Rowena." We're done with dinner. Say whatever you want to say." She didn't plan to leave the living room because she wanted to keep an eye on Rowena.

Rowena, however, wanted to have a private chat with Graham. She ignored Jenny's pointed statement and said, "Jenny, you must be tired after a day of busy work. Why don't you go rest in your room?"

"Rowena Glass!" Infuriated, Jenny couldn't believe that Rowena still wanted to pull her dirty tricks.

Rowena refused to discuss further, knowing Jenny would not make Graham listen to her plea if she was present. Therefore, she needed Jenny gone, even if it was temporary.

"Jenny, go rest." A while later, Graham asked Jenny to go to her room to end the silent confrontation.

"Dad…"

"Didn't you always tell me that you know what to do? I'll tell you the same now.

Do you trust me?" he asked her earnestly.

Feeling touched, she nodded. "I trust you." Without saying a word to Rowena, she got up and retired to her room.

Rowena was disturbed by Graham's promise to Jenny and had a hunch that she might return empty-handed that day.

When Jenny was gone, Graham turned to Rowena. 'You can speak now."

She forced a smile and went around to stand behind him. "Graham, you must be tired in the past few days. I'll massage your shoulders." She didn't wait for a response and immediately started massaging him.

Graham frowned but didn't stop her. "If you want to change my mind on the divorce by flattering me. I'd suggest you not waste your time."

She paused for a bit but bit the bullet and went on massaging him. "I know you must hate me a lot right now, but I did what I did because I had no choice. If you didn't ignore me for years and deprived me of a sense of security, I wouldn't have done all of that." She even started sobbing in front of him.

"Are you saying that I was responsible for all the actions carried out by you? "

he questioned her coldly with a smirk.

"No, that's not what I meant," she clarified. "I have loved you for many years.

You should know that better than anyone else. Now, you want a divorce, but I couldn't give up on our relationship."

To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 778-Do You Take Me for a Fool?

Graham chuckled coldly. "You loved me? You wouldn't have slept with another man if you loved me. Do you take me for a fool, Rowena Glass?"

Always a reticent man, he was unusually talkative that day, which surprised her.

She muttered, "Graham…"

"Tell me what you want from the divorce." He refused to waste time quarreling with her because the divorce was final.

Seeing that, Rowena knew she stood no chance and sat across from him.

Staring at the familiar man, who was nothing more than a stranger now, she felt resentment rising in her. "I came here today for a final appeal. I thought you would consider our feelings for each other after years of marriage and might reconsider the divorce if I made a compromise. But I finally realized I was the only one with feelings for you-it was not mutual."

Graham did not respond to her speech at all. She took a deep breath to keep her anger in check. "We can proceed with the divorce if you split the Walter family's assets in half." She gave an offer.

He glanced at her and said coolly, "What do you have to do with my family assets? Did you forget about the prenup?’ Wealthy families like the Walters had safeguards in place to protect their familial assets in the event of a divorce. Rowena would only be entitled to Graham's income in the years he worked for Walter Inc and his annual bonus.

Unfortunately, he only received some bonuses from Walter Inc over the years instead of a steady income.

"Don't be a jerk, Graham Walter!" Rowena understood the terms of the agreement but refused to accept the reality. She would go after his personal assets if she wasn't entitled to the assets of the Walter family. Sadly, Graham didn't have much under his name and would do his best to stop her from getting much.

"The best I can do is two properties in Bardoff City and 10 million dollars,"

Graham offered a small sum to keep her from causing a scene, even though he would rather not give her a dime.

Unsatisfied, she looked at him astonished. "10 million dollars? Are you joking?

I'm not a street beggar!"

"If that's too little for you, you can reject the offer. I can always sue you in civil court to make sure you don't get anything from the lawsuit." He could make her walk away with nothing after all she had done to ruin the family.

She gritted her teeth. "Aren't you worried that things might get out of hand… II "Well, let it be, then! I don't mind being a laughingstock for a few days. The public can't do anything to me as long as I'm the head of the family." He was mentally strong enough to withstand public mockery. His only concern was that a public fallout might affect Jenny and her marriage prospect. Therefore, he would rather keep the divorce lowkey.

Rowena clenched her jaw with hatred; she was at the end of her wits in the face of his fearlessness. "10 million dollars will not cut it. I need at least 50 million dollars."

Technically, he should have offered her hundreds of millions, even billions. Alas, Graham was too shrewd to give her a chance to demand more.

"Rowena Glass, you're the one who did us wrong. I don't mind if you want to kick up a fuss. But have you considered how a public fallout might affect Jo?"

He stared at her, thinking that she was foolish. Then, he went on amid her silence, 'Jolene and James are only engaged. How would the Windsors think of her if they heard about this mess? Would they take the chance to call off the engagement? Think wisely."

He stopped there, for there was nothing more to be said.

To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 779-9 She Had to Keep It In In the end, Rowena left the villa with the signed divorce papers and the offer of a countryside villa and 15 million dollars. She did not want the two apartment properties initially offered to her, which were admittedly in a better location than the villa she received, because she believed that she should live in villas, not high-rise buildings. Ever since birth, she had been living in villas, which led to her odd insistence on receiving a villa at the time of divorce.

After negotiating with Graham, the 15 million dollars she received was the final agreement. He was speechless at her obstinance and added another 5 million dollars because he couldn’t be bothered with her. But the deal was far from ideal for her because she visited Graham with at least one billion dollars in mind, and she only left with a tenth of the amount she wanted, which was a huge difference.

However, she had her concerns. Like Graham told her, she needed to think in Jolene's best interests. Whatever she had done to the Walters could not be exposed right now, or it'd be damaging to Jolene. Hence, she had to keep it in.

Jenny was informed about the outcome of Graham's settlement with Rowena.

Although she thought that Graham shouldn’t have even offered a dime to Rowena, she understood that he did not want to die on this hill and kept her opinions to herself.

She knew that the 15 million dollars wouldn't be much for Rowena. Given her spending habits over the years, she would soon run out of money and suffer for it.

Graham and Rowena's divorce was finally done and dusted. The news caused some commotion, and the majority of opinion was against Graham, thinking he was ruthless for ditching Rowena after the Glasses went bankrupt. Still, the gossip did not affect Graham too much.

On Monday morning, Jenny arrived early at the hospital for Alec's surgery. Even though she claimed she wasn't nervous, she was secretly a little anxious.

Perhaps, she felt that way because she would be operating on someone close to her, which was a different experience than working with a complete stranger.

Still, she managed to calm down and get focused.

She went to the anesthetic room to check on Alec. The anesthetist was still in preparation, and a completely sober Alec smiled when he noticed Jenny. "Dr.

Walter, I'll leave everything in your capable hands."

"Don't worry. I'll do my best,’ Jenny answered. He grunted and fell silent. His mood wasn't exactly good because of the impending surgery, and she felt a little bad for him. "Did you not inform Mr. Faust about it?"

"He's not in great health. It'll only worry him.’ Alec knew that she was referring to his grandfather, not Zeke. "If anything bad happens…" He glanced at her and chuckled. "Could you do me a favor to make frequent visits to him? He seems to like you very much."

During his last visit to Old Mr. Faust, the old man mentioned Jenny and wished to see Alec and her together.

"Don't worry. I won't let anything bad happen to you." Jenny was determined and well-prepared.

Soon, the anesthetist was ready and administered the anesthesia to Alec, who gradually fell asleep. He was wheeled into the surgery room, and the surgery officially started.

Blake arrived an hour after the surgery started. She came late because she knew she could not stop Alec from undergoing surgery, which would take time too. At first, she thought she was the only one at the hospital to wait for Alec, but she was surprised to see Paul Wagner there. She wasn't too familiar with PaulAlec merely introduced him as a friend. She wouldn't be interested in Paul otherwise because of his lackluster background.

To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 780-Is the Surgery a Success?

Considering that Paul was a friend of Alec's and that she had not given up on pursuing him, she nodded at Paul as a form of greeting. To her dismay, Paul ignored the gesture because he looked down on her. Enraged, she felt disrespected.

"Are all Parringtonians this stubborn?’ First, there was Jenny, and here came Paul, who was similarly annoying. She also knew how obstinate Alec could be.

Paul sat on the bench outside of the operating theatre and chuckled. ’ Maybe it's not us who are stubborn. Perhaps, Bardoff people are simply weak in comparison."

"Paul Wagner!" She was outraged. "I didn't want to fight with you because you're Alec's friend, but you shouldn't go overboard either!"

"Miss Watkins, you're being weird. When did I go overboard? I didn’t even do anything.’ He shrugged, looking innocent. Sure, he did not do anything to her, but his attitude alone was enough to irk her.

She scoffed and sat on the bench across from him, refusing to talk to him for the sake of her sanity. This time around, he opened his mouth. "Miss Watkins, I bet you're worried. If the surgery is a success, your lies will be exposed."

Others might not know about Alec's situation, but as a friend, Paul was well aware of Alec's history with Jenny. Alec's affection for Jenny was unrelated to mental health issues—it was pure love. Of course, Paul could tell that Alec's affection for Jenny had morphed into an odd obsession, which might be related to an existing mental health concern. Still, Alec must have truly loved Jenny, and the mental health issue only exacerbated his actions.

"What lies are you talking about? Alec has been suffering from mental health issues all the while. How can you be sure he didn't fall in love with her because of his existing issues?’ Blake was fearless-the blame couldn't be shifted to her even if Alec regained his memories.

Paul smirked. ’Miss Watkins, you're quite stubborn too, aren't you?"

"Hah, I'm no match for you. Look at you, coming all the way to Bardoff City, but your woman wouldn't even look at you," she mocked him.

His expression instantly crumbled. "Did you investigate me?"

"I do that to everyone around Alec. But I find your background particularly interesting." She did not deny that she had investigated him, mostly because she didn't take him seriously. Even after the merger between the Wagner Group and Faust Group, the Wagners were nothing more than a second-tier family in Parrington-too insignificant in the eyes of the Watkins.

Paul was seething in anger, but a thought flashed across his mind, causing him to smirk. ’I bet you're not faring better than me. If the Watkins cared about you, they wouldn't have let you practice as a psychologist for years. You are probably betting on Alec to take over the Faust Group. If he succeeds, you can borrow his influence to take over the Watkins family business. But if he fails, you lose nothing, either. At the very least, you could go back to your practice."

She looked ashen-faced but did not retort because he was telling the truth.
