Ch. 741..750
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 741-You Worried?
Jenny had just returned to Walter Castle when Rowena stormed up to her, yelling, *Why haven't you stopped your war with my family? Do you want to see your mother dead?!"
Jenny gave her a lazy stare. "Do you really take us for fools, Rowena Glass?"
"I…what do you mean?" Rowena instantly quelled, fear swelling in size in her heart.
They couldn't have figured it out…could they? But the double looked so much like that woman, Rowena nearly didn't stop herself from tearing her face apart when she first saw her.
"What do I mean? You really think you can play us like a bunch of idiots with that sad little fake you call my mother?" Jenny sneered.
Even if she couldn't tell the difference, Graham had been able to based on his years of devotion toward her. Hadn't Rowena considered this when they chose the body double?
Yes, she actually had considered it, but they figured Graham wouldn't have remembered that woman so clearly after all these years.
Looks like they'd underestimated his love for her. Not only had he been able to tell, but he'd also been able to tell in such a short time. It went to show just how much he loved Jenny's mother.
Rowena teared up at the thought. She screamed, "All these years, and he still only has eyes for that bitch!"
She’d been Graham's wife for two decades and even had a daughter together.
Still, she never once compared to that woman.
"Watch your tongue!" Jenny snapped harshly.
But Rowena didn't give a damn. She glared at Jenny and, as if seeing someone else, screeched, "So what if Graham loves you? I'm the one he's married to now, me!"
Jenny rolled her eyes and went back to her room, ignoring Rowena's outburst.
After she left, Rowena glared hatefully at a corner in the living room, grunting, "If I could defeat your mother then, I sure as hell can defeat you now."
With that, she left Walter Castle.
Jenny didn't care where she was going. Rowena was nothing more than a silly clown to her now, unable to do much anymore.
Meanwhile, she was in the best of spirits after getting Gilbert's call in the morning, notifying her of his flight back to the country. So much had happened in the long time since they last met. Jenny couldn't help but feel safe again at the thought of him.
She saw him as her true family, after all.
Gilbert was in the first-class cabin on the airplane flipping through a magazine, though his focus drifted off now and then.
"You worried?" the man beside him asked.
Gilbert closed the magazine and gave him a side-eye. "What's there for me to worry about? You should be the one worried, no? It's been so long since you've seen Jenny."
The man laughed. "Well, when you put it like that, yeah. I am a little worried. N "I couldn't tell." "Aren't you worried she'll be more shocked than happy to see me?" the man asked, then leaned back into his seat.
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 742-To Kill Her Gilbert had told Jenny he'd brought her a surprise, but the man wondered if it would truly be a welcome surprise for her.
"Better a surprise than shock. That way, it'll mean you still have a place in her heart."
Gilbert scowled. In truth, he didn't like that man much either.
Though compared to Alec, he was pretty much a saint. At least he'd grown up with this man and seen several facets of his persona.
The man shrugged and teased, "You better be surprised to see me, Jenny, or else I'll be kicked out of Bardoff City."
Their flight landed in Bardoff City the next morning on a Saturday, with Jenny on the way to fetch them for breakfast.
When Jenny went downstairs, Rowena was sitting at the table having breakfast, much to her surprise. Though she stayed silent, entirely ignoring her. Jenny found this weird because Rowena didn't usually wake up this early. Plus, she shouldn't be so calm right now. Still, Jenny didn't give it much thought. Instead, she left straight for the airport.
After she left, Rowena made a phone call. "She's left the house."
With a glare at the empty doorway where Jenny had gone out, she muttered hatefully, "I'll make sure you never set foot in this house again, Jenny Walter."
Unbeknownst to the danger present in her life, Jenny happily drove to the airport. It was situated near the Bardoff countryside, away from the city center.
The trip from Walter Castle took around two hours total to reach.
The moment Jenny exited the freeway off the city center, she immediately noticed she was being followed by several black SUVs. At first, she thought she might be overthinking it, but then she realized the cars weren't leaving. In fact, they only crept closer and closer to her as the seconds went by.
Recalling Rowena's behavior this morning, Jenny suddenly connected the dots.
"She'd finally done it," Jenny thought.
She had been waiting for Rowena to give the killing order for weeks just so she could finally seize and present her tricks for everyone to see. That was partially why Jenny had been trying to piss her off all this while.
She took out her phone to call for help. Though unsure of how skilled her enemies were, having backups wouldn't hurt. Before the call went through, something slammed into the car from the side, knocking it off its wheels and landing on its side on the road. Jenny's phone flung out from her grasp.
Her first reaction was to gape at how bold these people were to think they could get away with this under broad daylight. Did the Glasses really think they could do whatever they wanted now?
Jenny crawled out of the car and was about to get into a defensive position when she spotted the large gang of foreigners pouring out from the SUVs. Chills ran down her spine when she saw them all taking out guns.
"Shit! I'm so screwed!" Jenny thought.
Rowena had truly done her worst now—hiring international mercenaries? Did she even think about the consequences of her actions?
Jenny quickly turned her attention back to the present. Keeping herself alive was the number one priority right now.
As the men advanced on her, she had a strong feeling they wouldn't be the kind to go for hand-to-hand combat. They appeared fearless, not even worried about alerting the authorities by using firearms.
Jenny could usually handle ten opponents at once, but she was no match for a gun.
The first gunshot came with a loud bang, alerting Jenny of their intention.
To kill her
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 743- Gunshot Jenny quickly dodged the shot, though, in truth, the situation had just begun to escalate. She knew that if she didn't come up with an escape plan soon, she might actually die there.
But what could she do? She didn't dare seek help from the drivers driving by in their cars. They'd also be subjected to the mercenaries' mercy, which Jenny was strongly against.
The only way out right now was to literally get out of this situation, she decided.
Jenny dove headfirst for the nearby trees. The foliage would help lower her chances of being shot.
"Ow, fuck!" she yelped as sudden pain blossomed in her shoulder, nearly making her knees buckle. A bullet had hit her shoulder. Blood was already gushing out from the wound.
Yet behind her, the mercenaries were closing in on her, so she bit back the pain and ran into the woods.
Meanwhile, Gilbert was calling Jenny's number after landing at Bardoff Airport.
Minutes went on, and still, no one picked up, making him frown.
"What is it? She's not answering?' the man who’d sat beside him on the airplane asked. He had expected to see Jenny at the airport waiting for them. But surprise, surprise.
Gilbert's brow never unfurrowed. He was concerned something had happened to Jenny, given she wasn't the kind to go back on a promise, and she did promise to fetch them from the airport.
His friend said, "What're you worried about? She's probably unable to hear her phone ring because of how loud it is in the airport. Who knows, she might be waiting for us outside right now."
"You have a point. Let's head out then." Gilbert then went to the airport entrance.
But ten minutes passed, and Jenny was still nowhere in sight, nor was her call being picked up. Even Gilbert's friend began to worry.
Just like that, Gilbert decided to call Graham Walter.
Across the city, Alec was in a private dining suite discussing a business deal with a client when Jenny called his number.
To his side, Blake quietly murmured, "We need to settle this first, Alec."
She'd seen the caller ID and didn't want Alec to answer the call. If Alec were to leave right after answering it, her efforts today would be wasted. Blake had spent a lot of effort getting this table of shareholders to gather here today, all for Alec's sake. It was a once-in-a-lifetime effort for him to have more footing in the quest to become the Faust family heir. When else would he get a chance like this again?
Alec knew this as well, so he hung up the call. He'd call Jenny after the deal was finished.
Though he would never imagine the call to actually be Jenny's emergency contact process acting up after crashing into the ground.
Jenny had set her phone like that since the moment she started dating Alec, yet she'd never expected this saving grace to fail her now.
She had been running for God knows how long in the forest, the pain in her shoulder only growing by the second, especially with the two other gunshots she suffered from.
On the bright side, neither was fatal.
But on the other hand…
…it's not like she could feel much gratitude right now.
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 744-Game Over As the sky darkened, Jenny grew more aware of how the odds were stacked against her. There was no way she could run out of this patch of the forest now.
But she didn't give up just yet. Gilbert would've been on the search for her by now. So she had to stay strong and hold on until she was rescued.
She gritted her teeth and dragged herself onward. It didn't matter where she ended up as long as it wasn't in those mercenaries' hands.
Yet it seemed she overestimated her luck. It took less than half an hour for the men to catch up to her. They surrounded her by the tens, creating a dark black shroud in her vision. Only now did Jenny see just how many meres had been hired to cut her down.
"You have admirable strength, pretty woman," one of the meres, with a head full of platinum blonde hair, said.
Jenny noted down his appearance. This must be the meres' leader. 'How much did the Glasses pay you?"
Mercenaries only do work when they're paid, after all. As for how she knew it was the Glasses-it might be Rowena's idea. Still, the money paid out to these men was definitely more the Glasses' treasury because there was no way Rowena had this much money and power to smuggle them into the country without alerting the authorities.
The mere said nothing, merely holding out three fingers.
"Three million?"
The man shook his head. "We are elites in the mercenary world. Three mill is dirt to us, not even enough to hire us as bodyguards."
"Three hundred million?" Jenny was truly astonished now. Sure, the Glasses could afford that much, but the sudden cash flow must've affected them somehow, no?
The man nodded. He didn't mind telling her this, nor about their employer's information. It's not like she'd live to tell the tale.
As if sensing it, Jenny asked. "They didn't hire you just to kill me, did they?"
The Glasses hated her to the bone, but she wouldn't be worth that much to them. Nor would they have gone to such lengths for their meres.
"You're really sharp," the blonde mere nodded.
Jenny's heart sank. The Glasses must've planned something big if they even smuggled such powerful men into the country. Were they going after the other Elites?
Did this plot include her father too?
Jenny gave it some thought. If all the other Elites sunk into chaos right now, the Glasses would have a tremendous chance of getting up to no good.
How ambitious.
"I can pay you double," Jenny offered.
Unfortunately, the mere shook his head. "Apologies, but as much as that'd benefit us monetarily, it wouldn't do well for our future employment."
He had done his research on Jenny as well and knew just how well off her family was. It wouldn't be strange for Graham Walter to pay them six hundred million to save his daughter's neck.
"Is this really it?" Jenny asked, trying to think of a way to turn the tides in her favor.
The mere nodded and pulled out a gun, directing it between Jenny's eyes."
Game over, pretty woman. Goodbye."
He then pulled the trigger.
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 745-If Something Happens to Her The bullet flew past Jenny as she dodged the shot, leaping off the cliff behind her. There was a river she would land into if she fell; she had noticed it before she was caught.
Still, it was her last resort. That's why she'd tried to negotiate with the mercenaries.
The blonde mere went to the edge of the cliff, unable to spot Jenny anywhere from this height. One of his men went up to him and asked in a foreign language, "What now, boss?’ "Find her, dead or alive!" the man barked out an order.
He had not once failed a single mission undertaken since he started working as a mercenary. He couldn't fail now. He'd find this woman whether she was dead or still breathing.
The men swiftly separated into groups, all in search of Jenny.
Meanwhile, Graham was on his way with his men after getting Gilbert's call.
Being unable to locate Jenny anywhere in the city led him to conclude that she was in danger. Luckily he had a vast network of eyes and ears in the city, which quickly reported that Jenny had been abducted into the woods nearby.
Of course, the gunshot wound in Jenny's arm was increasingly concerning.
Everyone soon gathered where Jenny had been taken away; even Gilbert and his friend were there. Graham didn't bother asking who they were; he just ordered his men to search for his daughter in the mountains.
Meanwhile, Gilbert was looking for clues from Jenny’s overturned car.
"Aren't you joining the search party?" his friend asked, to which Gilbert nodded.
"Course I am."
He turned to head into the forest, but was distracted by a loud ringtone from behind him. Turning around to look led him to find it was coming from Jenny's car. It was most likely Jenny's phone.
No wonder she hadn't picked up the call.
Gilbert swiftly went to retrieve it. His eyes darkened the instant he saw the CallerID.
"What took you so long?" Alec shot out the moment the call was answered. He had started to panic after his call had gone unanswered for so long.
Before Gilbert could answer, Alec spoke up again, this time calmer. ‘What did you call me for?"
"Jenny called you? When?" Gilbert asked, frowning.
"Who are you?" Alec asked. It was a stranger's voice he heard, yet familiar.
"What did she say to you in the call?' Gilbert continued asking.
As if only realizing that Jenny's phone was now in someone else’s hands, he said, ’I didn't pick up. I've been busy.' "Damn you, Alec Faust!" Gilbert roared into the phone. Jenny must've called Alec's number to ask for his help. If the man had picked up, she might not have been abducted.
"What happened to her?" Alec asked sternly.
Unfortunately for him, Gilbert wasn’t in the mood to entertain him. "If something happens to Jenny, I'm coming for your fucking neck, you piece of shit!"
He then hung up the call and blocked Alec's number.
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 746-I Promise You're Not Hallucinating Alec instantly tried to dial Jenny's phone number again, but his attempts were all left unanswered no matter how many times he called.
He could only send his men out to locate Jenny as well as try to figure out what had happened.
In the Bardoff countryside, Jenny was awoken by the chills racking her body.
She was half-submerged in a bubbling river in the middle of the forest.
How lucky she must've been to not crack her skull open falling down, but also to have been swept to shore by the river's current and not drown to death.
She climbed up the river bank to pull herself out of the water. The gunshot wound on her thigh was still bleeding. If this went on without something to stop it, she'd probably die of shock before those meres found her.
Nearby was a large boulder that she climbed up onto. Jenny then tore her clothes into strips and tied an emergency tourniquet around her thigh to slow the bleeding.
Now that she'd resolved this temporary issue, time to turn to the serious one:
how the hell was she going to get out of these woods?
If those mercenaries were still on her tail, she wouldn't technically be 'out of the woods' yet.
Ugh. When was the last time she'd been this disheveled?
Ah, right, when she was also hunted down by mercenaries overseas because she helped her mentor with a difficult chemical weapon that ended up being targeted by international warmongers.
But this time, the meres were coming for her neck, and her neck only.
The rustling of leaves and bush interrupted her train of thought. Not far away, Jenny spotted what looked like flashlights swinging around.
Fuck, had they caught up so quickly?
Jenny immediately slid off the boulder and ducked down into the nearby bush.
A man came up to the boulder, asking curiously, "Did I hallucinate? I'm sure I saw someone here."
He had clearly seen someone lying on the boulder earlier up on the hill. Yet no one was to be found now.
Just as he was about to leave, something peculiar caught his attention.
There were drops of bright, red blood on the boulder's surface, clearly visible even if it was pitch black in the woods right now.
Jenny noticed the man peering at the blood and immediately felt weak in her knees.
There was no way she could hide from them now.
She quickly scanned her surroundings and reached for a heavy-looking rock, ready to smash it into the man's skull. She crept behind him, raising the rock above the man's head…
Before she could attack him, the man said, "So this is how you intend to welcome me, Jen?"
The man turned around with a smile, and only then did Jenny realize who it was she was looking at. Her expression immediately turned into one of disbelief.
Heck, she even pinched herself to make sure she wasn't dreaming.
The man laughed. "What? I promise you, you're not hallucinating."
Jenny slowly lowered the rock in her hand and called out, "…Evan Clarke?"
"Oh? C'mon, we're not strangers." Evan beamed, then lifted her into a princess hug. "You're in bad shape, Jen. Are you feeling okay? In pain still?"
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 747-Guard!
Jenny wanted to answer in the affirmative, but she really wasn't in the mood to embrace her pain right now. "Wh-what are you doing here?"
She'd imagine seeing Gilbert or even Alec on the search for her, not Evan, who she'd not seen in ages.
Evan gently set her down, then crouched again. "We'll get to that later. Cmon, hop on."
Piggybacking her out would be easier than a princess carry.
"It's.Jt's fine. You just need to help me walk.’ Though they'd grown up together, she still maintained some distance considering the actual distance between them over the years.
"Just climb on up, Jen. We can't linger here a minute longer. You don't want to die out here, do you?"
He was right. The mercenaries were most likely still looking for her, so sticking around was a death sentence to both of them. Ultimately, she climbed onto his back so he could carry her out of the woods.
Jenny could smell a faint pine scent on the man's clothes, something she'd familiarized with him since long ago. It instantly made her feel safe and calm.
She fell asleep just like that as Evan quietly carried her to safety. She would've fallen off long ago if it weren't for her tense muscles from being injured.
Gilbert and his men soon met Evan.
"I'll carry her." he offered, but Evan didn't let him.
"We need to get her to the hospital ASAP. Hurry."
Gilbert gave him a pointed look but didn't say anything else.
He'd brought Evan back to the country for one reason, and one reason only —to have him hopefully date Jenny, and she'd finally have a reliable partner. That meant creating opportunities for the two of them to get close, and yet…
The thought of Alec immediately affirmed Gilbert's decision. Evan was a hundred times the better choice than Alec Faust.
The group of men soon exited the forest, not having once met the band of mercenaries. They must've scattered upon seeing how large a group of opponents they'd be up against.
They barely made it onto the freeway and were about to help Jenny into the car when several cars stopped around them.
"Guard!" Gilbert called, worried it might be the mercenaries. His men instantly surrounded Evan and Jenny in a protective circle.
But then Alec stepped out of one of the cars.
He could spot Jenny from a distance and saw how bloodied and grimy she looked. Pain shot through his heart at the sight.
He gazed at the man Jenny was lying on. Though nothing was said between them, there was no doubt Evan was the winner in the situation.
Alec then turned to Gilbert. "The ambulance is on its way."
The moment he said those words, ambulance sirens rang in their vicinity, followed by the vehicle itself.
Gilbert's jaw tightened, clearly distrustful of Alec.
"We need to stop her bleeding first," Evan spoke up. He didn't like Alec either, but he had clearly seen his love for Jenny in that split second their eyes met, so he trusted Alec wouldn't mean harm to her.
Gilbert saw how pale Jenny looked and knew she would soon be in danger if her bleeding wasn't stopped.
"Alright." With a nod, Evan carried Jenny into the ambulance
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 748-Find Out Who It Was Only when Gilbert's men had dispersed did he finally turn back to Alec." Thank you for the ambulance, Mr. Faust. On behalf of both Jenny and me."
"No need." Alec knew who this man was now and also knew just how much he disliked him. But that didn't bother him. All that mattered was that Jenny was safe.
"Heh." Gilbert scowled. "I heard you found someone new. I don't think you need to be so concerned about Jenny now, then, or your lover might misunderstand."
He then got into his car and left, not bothering to hear Alec's explanation.
Alec's brow didn't relax even as the car left. He never imagined his memory loss to have such a grave impact. Thanks to the memory loss, he had no idea why Jenny's brother was so hostile toward him.
"Best to regain memory as soon as possible," he thought.
Gilbert arrived at Bardoff Hospital, where Evan waited outside the emergency room while Jenny was being tended to inside.
He sat down beside Evan. "How is she?"
"Doctor hasn't come out yet." Evan appeared worried.
Gilbert nodded silently.
"Was that Jenny's ex-husband? Alec Faust?" Evan asked. He had guessed as much, though no one told him yet.
Gilbert nodded again, looking grumpy. "Do you know why I asked you to come back?"
"You didn't ask me to." Evan scowled. He'd wanted to return to the country long before Gilbert invited him. "I wanted to come back of my own volition."
"Whatever."
Evan smiled sneakily. "You don't want Jen to get back together with Alec, do you? That's why you had me come back, so I'd date her?"
"Mhm."
Evan hummed. 'Are you sure I'll succeed? It's been a decade at least since we last saw each other."
"If you cant, then no one else can.” After all, Evan had been the sole person Jenny confessed her love to in all her years of living.
Evan smiled and patted Gilbert's shoulder. "I won't let your faith in me go to waste then."
Gilbert gave him an irritated look. 'As much as I want you to be with her, you have to actually like her in the first place, not just do this just because I asked."
All he wanted was a man capable of loving and providing for Jenny.
"I know." Evan nodded. "I wouldn't have returned home if I didn't like her, Gil."
Gilbert was surprised to hear that. If Evan had feelings for Jenny, why did he reject her all those years ago?
Before he could ask, the emergency room door opened, and the operating doctor walked out. Gilbert and Evan immediately went up to him.
"How is she, doc?” Gilbert asked worriedly.
"She's lost a lot of blood, so she's still passed out at the moment. But she's out of the deep now that we've given her some transfusions."
Both men heaved a relieved sigh upon hearing that.
Jenny was later wheeled out of the ER to a general ward, her brother and suitor tailing behind.
Meanwhile, Alec was also relieved when he heard that Jenny was safe. His shoulders instantly relaxed.
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 749-Future Wife Jenny's ward was quickly crowded with visitors.
Graham's eyes were wet with tears as he gazed at his daughter still passed out on the hospital bed. "Is Jenny…'*
"She'll be alright, sir," Gilbert reassured him. He still respected Jenny's father even though they'd barely met.
Stephanie and Jade were visiting, too, as news of Jenny being hospitalized had spread far and wide. Sadly, they couldn't do much before when she was in trouble.
Everyone was glad to hear that Jenny would be fine.
"Why don't you all head home first? I'll stay back to keep her safe. She'll be fine, I promise," Gilbert spoke up.
The visitors soon dispersed. As much as they'd like to stick around, they couldn't protect Jenny or be of use to her in this state.
However, Graham was reluctant to leave. "Why don't you leave first, too? I'll stay watch here."
"I think it's best if you let me do this, sir. Jenny would only get upset at me if she knew you stayed up for her," Gilbert insisted.
Graham was about to respond when Evan said, "You don't have to worry, sir. No harm will come to Jenny with us here."
"And you are?"
"Evan Clarke. We grew up together with Jenny."
Graham nodded. It seemed the only people who really deserved to be by his daughter's side right now were her childhood friends. If only he hadn't sent her away all those years ago…maybe, he would've been one of the closest people in her life right now.
He shook away these thoughts. There was no point lingering in the past.
Before Graham left, he still had some of his men stay guard in the vicinity of the ward, just in case.
Evan scoffed. "What a class act. First, he leaves his only daughter in a village on the grounds of it 'being for her own good.’ Now, he tries to act like some model father figure."
"Mr. Walter had his reasons." Gilbert could empathize with the man.
But Evan disagreed. "What reasons? So he could pursue power and influence for his 'family*? He would've made it work if he had let go of his claim over the Walter inheritance and left the city with Jenny."
Gilbert said nothing because Evan had a point. Still, it really was up to someone to make the choice. That was something even he couldn't interfere with. Maybe Graham thought being stronger was the only way to keep his family safe.
"Alright, you can leave now. I'll stay here to look after her." Evan waved his hand nonchalantly at Gilbert.
Gilbert looked at him in surprise. "You're…kicking me out?"
"Of course I am. How else can I develop my relationship with Jenny later when she wakes up?" Evan asked, grinning.
The moment he said this, reluctance swelled in Gilbert's chest. But Evan once again had an excellent point.
With a sigh, he said, "Fine. But make sure nothing happens to her, you understand?"
"I know. I can't possibly let harm come to my future wife." Evan made a shooing motion at Gilbert, then gazed lovingly at Jenny on the bed.
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 750-We Won't Disappoint Graham had no idea how Evan was so confident. Given Jenny's personality, he didn't think his chances were too high. That woman didn't let her affections go that easily.
As for Evan’s romantic interest in her, to Graham, that was nothing more than puppy love. Something an adult would’ve grown out of by now. Still, Evan was the only man Jenny had ever confessed her love to, so he might have a higher chance of winning her over.
After Gilbert left the ward, Evan gazed at Jenny, who was resting on the hospital bed. With a smile, he said, "Here we are again, Jen. After all these years…you must've been really upset when I rejected you all those years ago, huh? I've never heard from you even once since then."
He didn't grow up in Orchid Village with Jenny and her brothers. They came to know one another at the elementary school in town, becoming friends ever since. The four of them always studied in the same school, from middle school to high school. It was only when Evan was about to leave the country to further his education while Jenny had to leave for Parrington University that they were forced to say goodbye, i It was at that time that Jenny confessed her love to him, but because Evan had been worried about letting romance affect his future career opportunities, he rejected her and left the country for university.
Evan hadn't stopped regretting his actions since then.
Only after he left did he realize how meaningless everything was without Jenny.
Yet he was afraid to return after leaving, especially after learning about Jenny's marriage.
After her divorce, Evan finally decided to return so he wouldn't miss a chance with her again. He was still worried, though, about whether Jenny still had feelings for him after all these years. Or rather, whether what she had for him all those years ago was genuine.
Evan really wasn't sure.
Meanwhile, the Glasses were in turmoil.
Wayne was absolutely pissed at the mercenaries' incompetence. "Didn't you tell me you've never once failed a mission?"
Waste of his three hundred million dollars!
The platinum-blonde man replied flatly, "On account of this slip-up on our end, we can take care of another target of your choice."
Three hundred million was no small amount. They had to pay the consequences of their mistake, no matter what, and killing another person wasn't a difficult feat to accomplish.
To the side, Randy was getting agitated. Kill another target? Was that how they were gonna placate them for their mistake? All he wanted to do was make sure Jenny died right now!
But his father stopped him from speaking up. Instead, he gave the meres a polite smile. "I accept that. I'll send you the next target's details later.
Please make sure the job gets done."
"We won't disappoint." The mere promised sternly. His reputation and career would literally be left in the dust if he failed this next mission.
After the mercenaries left, Randy piped up, "Dad, are you just gonna let them off like that? They're so fucking useless. It was such a waste of money!"
"We would do well not to get on their wrong side, Randy. They're the toughest of mercenaries; killing is second nature to them. We wouldn't want to risk our own necks just to give them a scolding," Wayne explained, having given this some thorough thinking.
Randy frowned and cussed aloud before asking, "Well, what do we do with Jenny then? We can't let her go so easily."
