Ch. 611..620
To Be Yours Again by Taylor Chapter 611-But Who Would Care?
To take down the Glass family, the Walters and the Windsors were enough.
Alec wasn't necessary to the plan, but Jenny had personal reasons.
Alec had only just arrived in Bardoff City. He was at a disadvantage in every area. If she let him in on their plan, they would be able to prove his abilities.
Moreover, he'd benefit from it and be able to develop his company even faster.
But then she thought for a bit and decided not to talk to James about the Glasses. They could talk about it when Alec came back. If they talked about it now, they would take action before Alec could come.
She was about to speak, but then someone ran over. "James."
Jenny raised her eyebrows. It was Jolene, and she wasn't calling him Mr.
Windsor anymore. Anyone would think they were friends.
Jolene was stringing Brandon along and hitting on James at the same time.
That wasn't very nice of her.
James looked at her and said nothing, but the dislike in his eyes was apparent.
"Let's go, Jenny.’ Jenny nodded and was about to get into the car, but Jolene wouldn't give up so easily and pull at Jenny’s arm. "Jenny, where are you and James going? Can I tag along?"
Jenny was speechless. She admired Jolene's boldness. "No can do, sister,” she declined, smiling. She didn't care about Jolene's stiff face.
"I just want to hang out with you. I don't have any other intentions. Can't I do that?" Jolene grew pouty. Anyone would think that Jenny was picking on her.
Jenny was about to speak, but then James walked over and pulled Jolene away, taking Jenny's hand. "I'm not letting you," he said coldly. "It has nothing to do with Jenny."
"James…" Jolene pouted, but her heart was in a rage. Why was Jenny being treated so well? Couldn't Jolene compare to her?
Jenny shrugged, exasperated. "You heard your man. It's not me. He's the one who doesn't want you coming along.” James' face hardened, and he glared at Jenny. Since when had he become Jolene's man?
"Get in the car.” Jenny didn't say much else. She got in the car and left with James. Through the rearview mirror, she could see Jolene still standing where she was. The hatred was clearly visible in her eyes.
But who would care?
Neither of them talked about Jolene in the car. Jenny was silent, saying nothing.
James saw how quiet she was and thought she was worried about her business. "What are you thinking about? Are you worried about the sales reports?"
"No." Jenny shook her head. She had not worried about it at all. She dared not brag about her talents, but she was sure that even if she weren't part of the Walters, she could still bag a few clients.
Of course, that was only if no one decided to sabotage her. She was the Walter family's eldest daughter, after all. There were pros and cons of being who she was. No one would want to pick a fight with her.
Well, except for Rowena Glass and Jolene Walter.
"Don't you worry too much. How could I be your senior if I couldn't help you with this?" James didn't think it was an issue. He could randomly select two projects from the companies under the Windsors, and Jenny would ace the sales reports.
Jenny looked at him, a little embarrassed. "I'm honestly not worried about it, James. You don't have to help me."
"That's true. I'm pretty confident in your abilities." James didn't press the matter.
He knew of her personality. If she didn't need help, he didn't have to meddle. If he did, she wouldn't appreciate it.
To Be Yours Again by Taylor Chapter 612-What Is He So Nervous About?
Not long after, the car stopped at the entrance of the restaurant.
James and Jenny walked inside, and it was then that she noticed something was off. No one was in the restaurant, while melodious piano music played in the air. Even a fool could sense that something was not right.
She turned and looked at James. ’James, did you arrange all this?"
Jenny was not too sure. She thought that he wasn't the type to do something like it. On the other hand, only he was around.
James smiled and said nothing. He brought her into the restaurant, and they sat down at the table, which was already prepared.
Jenny was almost certain now that this was James' doing. But…what did he mean by all this?
James sat before her. A smile hung on his lips like usual, but upon closer inspection, Jenny realized he was nervous.
Nervous?
What was he so nervous about?
A million questions popped up in her head, but then James spoke, and Jenny understood everything.
"I actually have something to say to you, Jenny," James said. Anxiety flashed through his eyes.
Jenny said nothing, waiting for him to continue.
James steadied himself and grew serious. "Jenny, there's something that I've never told you. I…" James was obviously nervous. "I like you," he said after a long pause. He immediately felt better once those words were out.
Then, he looked at Jenny anxiously, a little afraid to meet her eyes. She hadn’t spoken even after a while had passed. He finally looked up at her and realized that she was unusually calm. He couldn't see a trace of emotion on her face.
"Jenny, I…"
James was about to say more, but then Jenny spoke. "Why do you like me, James?"
"Why?" James was a little stunned by the question. He didn't know how to answer. He scratched his head awkwardly like a child. "I can't really explain why.
I just really like you. I miss you when I don't see you, and I'm happy when I do."
That was all there was to it. It wasn't much of a reason.
Jenny didn't think so. She looked at James apprehensively. "I've never heard you say that you like me. And I've never got the feeling that you liked me."
When they trained under Mr. Birkett, they spent a lot of time together and shared a close bond. But Jenny could see that James didn't like her in that way.
They were simply seniors and juniors.
So why was that changing now?
The only major change that had happened recently was her becoming the Walters' daughter. She didn't intend to read so much into it, but she had to.
"What do you mean, Jenny?" James' face darkened. He understood the meaning behind her words.
Jenny didn't mind elaborating. "James, you just like me because of my identity, don't you?"
"Do you think I'm only after the Walters' status?" It was as if James had heard a joke. He was a little angry.
"I'm not saying that you're after the Walters. It's just that in your heart, you think I'm only worthy of you because I'm the Walters' daughter. What if I wasn't their daughter right now? Would you like me?" She looked at him nonchalantly, clearly seeing through his motives.
She wasn't angry. She understood why James would do that. It was hard to find someone in their position whom they liked. Maybe James truly liked her, but not strongly. That would be why he had never told her that he liked her.
Things were different now. She was suddenly in the same league as him, and that was the reason for his sudden change.
To Be Yours Again by Taylor Chapter 613-Something Is Off James grew quiet after hearing Jenny's words. Very, very quiet.
Jenny wasn't in a hurry. She didn't mind letting him think for himself. It'd be best if he could figure it out clearly.
Right at that moment, the waiter served them their food. Jenny ate peacefully, waiting for James to figure it out.
"You're really unbothered by all this, Jenny." James watched her happily eating, unsure of what to say.
Jenny shrugged nonchalantly and smiled. "I might not have accepted your confession, but that doesn't mean I have to starve."
Even if they weren't a couple, Jenny still trusted James' character. She knew that he wouldn't hate her because of it.
"Yeah. You can carry on eating whatever you want. I've booked the entire restaurant." But now, it seemed highly unnecessary. Hence, regardless of whether he would succeed, he had to tell her how he felt. The end result was pretty much what he expected. Jenny had not accepted him.
"I know how you're feeling, James, but it's unnecessary. There are so many eligible bachelorettes in Bardoff City. You'll find one you like," Jenny comforted him while eating.
James didn't share the same thought. He drank his red wine and sighed," It's not that easy."
"Believe in yourself. You'll find her one day." James was a brilliant man. Any girl in Bardoff City would like him. Jenny thought it would be easy for James to find someone who liked him. As for how much, that would be up to fate.
James stopped talking about it. He put down his wineglass and asked," Well, who do you like if not me? Is it still Alec?"
It seemed that besides him, only Alec had a close relationship with her. The other guys were all either rejected or friend-zoned.
Jenny said nothing. When he brought up Alec, her heart thumped. That uneasy feeling came back. Since yesterday, she hadn't been able to contact him. It was abnormal.
Even if he hadn't picked up when she called him, he should have called back once he knew about her calling him. He wouldn't be this quiet.
Something was off. Very off!
Jenny began eating quickly. She had to call him again.
James didn't know what she was thinking, but he noticed she was eating faster.
He looked bewildered. "Jenny?"
"Don't you worry, James. I'd invite you to my wedding. You'll know who I like when that happens." Jenny couldn't answer his question. She knew clearly that she probably liked Alec, but she was too embarrassed to say it out loud.
James had no choice but to let it go. "Alright. Even if I think he's unworthy of you, I'll stand by you if you're sure about your decision."
Jenny smiled. It felt nice having someone support her.
Their meal didn't last for long. Jenny wanted to call Alec as quickly as possible so she didn't dawdle. It hurt James' feelings a lot.
Once Jenny got home, she called Alec on her phone. No matter what, she had to hear his voice that night.
To Be Yours Again by Taylor Chapter 614-Blocked However, his phone was still turned off. It only made her even more worried.
She had no choice but to call Vincent. It took him a long time to answer, and Jenny's anxiety was through the roof.
"Miss Jenny?' Vincent picked up. He seemed bewildered that Jenny was calling him.
Jenny didn't waste any time, asking, "Where's Alec? Why isn't he picking up? H Vincent was stunned. He looked at Old Mr. Faust before him, who shook his head. He said, "Mr. Faust is in a meeting. He's been very busy lately, so his phone has been with me. It's probably out of battery."
"A meeting?" Jenny raised her eyebrows. That was weird. "When is it going to end?" Jenny asked. She had to hear his voice, or she wouldn't be at ease.
Vincent didn't know what to do. He knew that Jenny would wait for Alec to pick up the call after his meeting, but the problem was that no one would answer.
Alec was still nowhere to be found.
His silence made Jenny even more confused. ’What? Can't you tell me?"
"No, it's just that I'm not sure when his meeting will be over. He's been really busy," Vincent repeated, praying that Jenny wouldn't continue pressing the matter.
Jenny had already guessed that something had happened to Alec. She just wasn't sure what.
"Aren't you in Bardoff City? Why have you returned to Parrington? Did Alec tell you to go back?" Jenny asked, obviously bewildered.
Vincent felt a headache coming. He no longer cared if what he said was believable. "There are too many things to handle here. Mr. Faust couldn't do them alone, so he told me to come back."
Jenny said nothing for a long time.
Vincent's heart was about to leap out of his throat. He was afraid of Jenny persisting; he wasn't very good at lying.
"Alright. I've got it." Jenny didn't ask him any more questions, and Vincent sighed in relief.
He hung up and looked at Old Mr. Faust. "Why aren't we telling her? She might be able to help us.’ "Those people in Faust Group are studying Alec carefully. If they know something has happened to him, there will be chaos. If Jenny comes back now, people will start putting the pieces together. So it's best if she doesn't know." Old Mr. Faust had a lot on his mind. He didn't mean to keep Jenny in the dark on purpose. However, if she suddenly returned when Alec was missing, people would start talking.
Although Old Mr. Faust's words made sense, Vincent felt they still had to tell Jenny. She was obviously worried about him. However, he didn't voice his opinion. "I've already sent people out to keep up the investigations. Mr. Faust will be alright."
Old Mr. Faust nodded. Then, exhaustion showed itself on his face. "Keep an eye on the people in the company. Don't let any suspicious people find an opening."
"Alright. Take care," Vincent said. He was a little worried about Old Mr. Faust's state.
The old man said nothing. He waved, and Vincent turned to leave the ward.
In Bardoff City, Jenny didn't believe anything that Vincent had said. She called Zack.
"Zack, help me find something out.’ Two hours later, Jenny received Zack's call. She was anxious. "Did you find anything?"
"Nothing at all. The Fausts are really good at blocking all communication,' Zack answered. He didn't sound discouraged at all.
Jenny frowned. "Blocking communication? Why?” “That's the problem. What do you think happened for them to block off the entire world? I don't think it's a small matter,’ Zack speculated, smiling. He seemed to be enjoying all this.
To Be Yours Again by Taylor Chapter 615-A Nightmare Jenny understood that reasoning. "Have you found out what happened to him?
Has he appeared at Faust Group these two days?" "No," Zack replied.
Jenny was now certain that something had happened to Alec. But if something really did, why would Vincent and Old Mr. Faust lie to her? Were they afraid that she would leak it out?
She had no time to think about that. Jenny ended her call with Zack and immediately went to book a plane ticket to Parrington. But it was already late; the next flight was in the morning. She was feeling very antsy.
The next day, Jenny and Graham both took days off. Although she knew it wasn't nice of her to take the day off when she hadn't been working for some time, she was lucky that she was in the sales department and had just bagged another client. She had more freedom in that sense.
Jenny boarded the plane to Parrington. On the way there, she had a dream.
A nightmare, really.
It haunted her even after she woke up.
It was only a two-hour flight to Parrington, but they were the longest hours of Jenny's life. She stared at the white clouds as if that was the only way to calm herself down.
The moment Jenny got off the plane, she rushed toward Faust Group. However, she didn't enter.
If Vincent and Old Mr. Faust had chosen not to tell her about something happening to Alec, they didn't want her coming back. They were probably worried that her appearance would make people suspicious.
She put on a cap and a mask. She even put on some sunshades and waited outside the company. When Vincent walked out, she hurried after him.
Vincent quickly noticed that he was being followed, and his face darkened. He walked into an alley. He wouldn't hold back since someone was setting out to bother him.
Jenny saw through his thoughts at once, but she still moved forward. There were a lot of things that only Vincent could tell her.
The moment Jenny walked into the alley, a strong force was thrown at her, but it was nothing to her. She was prepared. Besides, Vincent was no match for her.
Vincent didn't think that his stalker would have such good martial skills. His glare grew somber. "Who are you? What do you want?"
Jenny was too anxious to be playing around with him and wasting time. She took off her cap and her mask. "It's me."
"Miss Jenny?" Vincent couldn't believe it. He thought he was dreaming.
"What on earth happened to Alec?" Jenny asked worriedly. She didn't have the time to explain.
Vincent returned to his senses and understood that she was there for Alec. He briefly considered things before saying, "Miss Jenny, put on your hat and mask again, and I'll tell you when we get there."
Jenny didn't refuse. She followed him into the car.
Soon, they reached the hospital. Jenny was bewildered. She thought that Alec was hospitalized. Then, Vincent brought her into one of the wards.
The one lying on the bed was not Alec. It was Old Mr. Faust.
"Vincent, who's this?" Old Mr. Faust frowned at once when he saw him coming in with such a peculiarly-dressed person.
Jenny took off her disguise. "It's me, Grandpa."
"Jenny?" Old Mr. Faust was shocked. "Why are you back?"
"You wouldn't tell me what happened to Alec. Of course, I'd come back." She didn't think that there was any wrong with that. No one would be able to tell who she was, anyway. It wouldn't bring much trouble to Vincent and Old Mr. Faust
To Be Yours Again by Taylor Chapter 616-You Have to Survive Old Mr. Faust felt conflicted when he heard what she said.
After their divorce, he worried that Alec and Jenny would go their separate ways. After that, he saw how Alec began to care for Jenny, and now, even Jenny was worrying about him. Old Mr. Faust couldn't help feeling a little glad.
However, they had no idea if Alec was dead or alive. That was cruel news for Jenny to bear.
Jenny was even more anxious when she saw how quiet he was. "What happened to Alec, Grandpa?"
With her pressing questions, Old Mr. Faust finally broke down and told her what had happened.
On the night that Jenny had called Alec, he hadn't picked up because he had no means to.
That night, not long after leaving the Old Mansion, he realized he was being tailgated. His stalker was fierce and relentless, refusing to lose him. After that, Alec's car was found at the bottom of a cliff. No one knew what had happened between the two events.
Old Mr. Faust had not received his call when it happened. Obviously, Alec wouldn't drag his grandfather into danger.
Paul later contacted him, saying that Alec had called him that night. He had rushed over as fast as he could, but it was already too late. Alec's car was at the bottom of the cliff, and Paul got someone to contact Old Mr. Faust in the midst of searching.
The search party had gone on for a few days, but Alec was nowhere to be found. Everyone had already given up, but they hadn't.
Jenny's face darkened once she heard it all. Right now, on top of being worried about Alec, she was also worried about Old Mr. Faust. He probably still didn't know about Mortimer being in a coma.
With his son in a coma and his grandson nowhere to be found, she worried about Old Mr. Faust's wellbeing.
"Don't worry, Grandpa. He'll be alright," Jenny said, looking at him. She believed that Alec would protect himself.
He smiled and said nothing. In truth, he already knew that the possibility of Alec surviving wasn't great. It was just that no one was willing to give up.
Jenny knew how much of a struggle it was for him. She continued, "It might even be good news that no one can find him. Maybe he's hiding somewhere so we won't be in danger." It was a huge possibility considering Alec's personality.
"I hope so," Old Mr. Faust said.
Jenny walked out of the ward with Vincent. She told him to bring her to where Alec's car was found. She wanted to search for him herself. No matter what, she had to find him alive.
She stood at the edge of the cliff and looked down at the raging waters; her face turned pale. She couldn't imagine how dangerous his attackers must have been for him to plunge down like that. Even if he were afraid, Alec would not have chosen to jump down.
Many people might have wanted to take his life, and they were all of high rank.
Who was it? Who could it be?
The Glasses?
They were the first people that Jenny could think of. The Glasses had the power and the means to do it.
But Jenny didn't think that was right. The Glasses would only attack Alec for Jolene's sake, and it wouldn't be to this extent. Chasing him all the way to Parrington? The Glasses had better things to do. Did they care about Jolene that much?
But who would it be if it weren't the Glasses?
No one in Parrington would have the power and the boldness to do something like it, so it had to be someone from Bardoff City.
There weren't a lot of suspects, then.
Jenny clenched her fists and looked down at the crashing water. "You have to survive, Alec. I'm definitely going to hunt them down!"
To Be Yours Again by Taylor Chapter 617-Putting on a Show "The wind is getting stronger, Miss Jenny. Let's go. There are people looking for him down there,’ Vincent said. He knew how important Jenny was to Alec, so he couldn't let anything happen to her, especially now. Or else, if Alec survived and returned to find that something had happened to Jenny, he could not imagine what would happen.
Jenny had no intention of leaving. She turned toward him and said," Vincent, could you help me get a waterproof suit?"
"Miss Jenny, are you…’ "I wouldn't be able to forget it unless I went down there myself." Even though many people were looking for him, Jenny still wanted to do it personally.
What if they were slacking off? What if they missed a clue that Alec had left behind?
Vincent wanted to stop her, but Paul appeared. ’Get her ready. We have no reason to stop her if she wants to sacrifice herself for Alec."
"Mr. Wagner…’ "What a pity she didn't treasure him when he was still around. Now she's putting on a show. I don't know what she means by this," Paul sneered.
Just as Jenny disliked him, he felt the same way.
Jenny pursed her lips. She didn't retort.
Paul wasn't wrong. She hadn't even given him a complete answer before this happened. But now that something had happened to him, she regretted her actions.
Vincent quickly got her a diving suit. Jenny put it on without hesitation and slowly glided down on the rope the rescue team had prepared.
Paul watched her disappear, scoffing. "It's all pretense."
Vincent was exasperated. "Mr. Wagner, Mr. Faust cares a lot about Jenny. If something happens to her…"
"If something happens to her this easily, she isn't worthy of him." Paul put on a diving suit as well and disappeared from Vincent's sight.
Seeing them both leave, Vincent stood in his spot, suddenly wishing he could go down, too. But he couldn't swim. On top of that, he had to handle the company.
He got someone to keep an eye on Jenny and Paul. Nothing could happen to them.
In the water, Jenny quickly found where Alec's car had sunk. There were pieces of broken glass around it. But there were no traces of Alec.
She swam over slowly, looking around carefully, trying to find a clue as to what had happened. A tiny clue was enough.
But reality disappointed her.
Maybe it was the water. Maybe things had happened all too quickly. Alec had not left behind any clues at all. Even after round after round of searching, Jenny came up empty-handed.
She swam toward the shore and looked at the place where his car had sunk.
What would Alec have done if he had survived? He would have swam with all his might toward the shore.
She began looking for clues on the sand. As long as Alec was here, he would have left something behind.
Paul went ashore and saw Jenny squatting on the beach, sifting through the sand carefully. He walked over. When he saw Jenny, rage surged through his chest for no reason. "Do you really think Alec would leave clues here?"
Jenny ignored him. There was no point arguing with someone like Paul.
"With what happened, he would have either swam downstream or gotten caught by his attackers. Going ashore would be instant death,’ Paul said. Although he didn't like Jenny, he shared his thoughts with her.
If those people wanted him dead, they would not have let him go ashore.
To Be Yours Again by Taylor Chapter 618-Not Everyone Is After Your Money What Paul said made sense. Jenny understood him, but she had no idea what else she could do. She could only try.
What if?
What if Alec hadn't gone the predictable route and quietly snuck up on land?
When Paul saw her keeping up the search, he cussed at her and left. But before going far, he turned back. "Is Stephanie…doing alright?"
He'd lost all contact with her once she moved to Bardoff City. He initially planned to move there like Alec, but he had not expected this to happen.
"She's doing pretty well,’ Jenny answered. At least, Stephanie seemed fine to her.
Disappointment flashed through Paul's eyes. He couldn't seem to accept that Stephanie could do well without him.
When it came to Stephanie, Jenny didn't mind saying more to Paul. She stood up, looking at the silent man before her. "Aren't you going to give up?"
"Why would I give up? She's my woman and forever will be," Paul said naturally; he didn't think anything was wrong with his words.
Jenny was speechless. She rolled her eyes at him. "Haven't you considered that Stephanie doesn't want to be your woman?"
"Of course she does!" Paul answered at once. He believed that Stephanie liked him. At the very least, there was no way that she didn't want to be his woman.
Jenny thought he was beyond help. "Why do you think she would leave, then?"
The air around Paul tensed at once. His face turned steely. "If it weren't for your meddling, she wouldn't have had the chance to leave."
"That doesn't mean she wouldn't be thinking about leaving. Why haven't you realized what you've done wrong, Paul?" Jenny somehow managed to laugh.
Paul was just ridiculous.
"Wrong? What have I done wrong?" Wasn’t he supposed to keep her by his side if he liked her?
Besides, Stephanie was doing alright when she lived with him. She had everything she wanted. He would have listened to her every word if she had not been so intent on leaving him.
Seeing him like this, Jeny understood that Paul thought he did no wrong.
She sighed in exasperation and said, "If you truly liked Stephanie, you wouldn't force her to be by your side. You didn't have to marry her at once, but you at least had to be upfront about your feelings. Not only had you not done that, you flat out told her that you would never marry her. Why do you think she'd have a reason to stay with you? You think she'd want you just because of your wealth and power, even if you never marry. But not everyone is after your money.” It was only because it was Stephanie that Jenny was willing to say so much to Paul. Back then, she thought Alec was clueless about how to love someone. But now she understood that, comparatively, Alec was a saint.
Jenny no longer cared about him after delivering her speech. She kept her head low and continued looking for clues.
"Do women really care about titles so much?" Paul murmured after a while.
Jenny looked up at him and nodded gravely. "Yes. We do.” Paul left. Jenny didn't care. She could only hope that some of her words made it through his thick skull.
She continued in her search for Alec, walking along the shoreline once, but she found nothing.
What if Alec had never swam to shore? What if he had gone downstream?
That would be a terribly dangerous situation.
The water was fast, and with someone hellbent on killing him, would Alec really have survived?
Jenny’s heart sank, but she didn't give up. She prepared to go downstream to keep looking for him. There would definitely be clues turning up.
To Be Yours Again by Taylor Chapter 619-Do You Want Me to Take Responsibility?
In the Faust Manor in Bardoff City, a middle-aged man looked at the bodyguard behind him. "Is it done?” "Yes. The target is dead, and the ones remaining are not worth worrying over,’ the bodyguard replied.
The man nodded in satisfaction. As long as the few influential ones were dead, the rest were mere jokes. Even if the old man spoonfed opportunities to them, they wouldn't be able to cope.
"Does that old man know?" he asked.
"Probably not."
"Good. Get someone to leak the news to him. Crush his spirits. Make him give up on handing over the Fausts to these outsiders. Faust Inc is mine!"
A ferocious look flashed over his face.
Jade was working hard in Jeneration Group. She knew that something had happened to Jenny, so she had to work extra hard to keep the company to not trouble Jenny.
"Miss Weston, someone is here for you.” Her secretary knocked on the door and walked in.
"Who is it?"
"His name is Max Pearson, and he says he's your friend."
Max.
Jade's expression shifted. Her memories flashed uncontrollably through her mind, but she suppressed them quickly. "Tell him I'm busy."
"Alright." The secretary left, but Jade could no longer focus on work. She thought of what had happened on the night she had gotten drunk. Until now, it all felt like a dream.
She was already at this age. How could she have acted so impulsively?
"I was careless," she thought.
Downstairs, when Max heard that Jade refused to see him, a smile appeared on his lips. He did not leave, choosing to wait for her. Since that night, Jade had been avoiding him. Today, he had to get a clear answer from her.
Jade was not expecting him to wait for her. When she saw him, her first instinct was to flee. However, her secretary was right beside her. There were numerous employees around her as well. If she left, people would start talking.
Max walked toward her and said calmly, "Let's talk."
"Start the car,' Jade said to her secretary.
Her secretary nodded. Though it felt odd, she went to start the car as instructed.
After her secretary left, Jade didn’t dwindle. She did not want to become the center of gossip.
She brought Max to the break room on the first floor. Her anxiety decreased only when the door was shut. "What do you want to talk about? I thought that I had made things very clear."
"Clear? I didn't find it clear at all." Max was upset when faced with her attitude.
"Are you just going to pretend nothing happened that night?"
"Yep. Nothing at all." Jade nodded.
Her logical tone made Max extremely upset. His eyes reddened slightly, and he had to hold back his anger. "Jade Weston! What do you take me for? H "We're all adults here, Max. You probably wouldn't want me to take responsibility for this, would you?" She was truly regretful. She wouldn't have drunk so much that night if she had known. Then, she would not have acted so impulsively.
"What if I want you to?" Max looked at her. He knew he could turn his back on her and leave, but he couldn't. If he hadn't come looking for her, she would honestly have pretended that nothing had happened between them that night.
But he couldn't do it.
Jade was stunned as if she was not expecting him to say something like that.
She was dazed for a while before smiling dryly, asking, "Are you joking? How am I going to take responsibility for this?"
"By being my girlfriend," Max said with no hesitation.
Jade frowned and refused him outright. "I'm sorry. I'm not thinking about those things for the time being."
Max was a good person, but they weren't suitable for each other.
To Be Yours Again by Taylor Chapter 620-Dead or Alive Jade's words made Max incensed. He looked at her as if wanting to catch a glimpse of something different in her eyes.
Unfortunately, he found nothing.
"Max, I'm honestly not suited for you. Your feelings for me are probably just a fleeting crush. As long as we see each other less, your feelings will vanish."
Jade felt upset seeing him like that. Max was good to her and helped her out many times, but she couldn't get together with him forthat reason alone. It was unfair to both of them.
Her words didn't comfort Max in the slightest. On the contrary, it made him even angrier. "We've never even tried. How would you know that we wouldn't work?
Do you think all guys are jerks just because you've met one? H Jade's face grew stiff. "I'm sorry."
Max was furious but couldn't unleash his anger with Jade acting that way." I hope you'll think about it. We can't live in the past forever. It's time you moved on." With that, Max left.
Jade's eyebrows furrowed when she watched him leave. "Am I really…living in the past?"
She had always thought that she had already moved past it. She thought the hurt that Hayden had caused her no longer affected her. But now that Max said it, she too felt that she hadn't really moved on.
She sighed before leaving the break room. She dismissed the matter and placed all of her focus on work. That was the only way she'd felt better.
Meanwhile, Jenny was a frequent visitor at the cliff where Alec's car crashed.
She was always trying to find clues proving he was still alive. But no matter how hard she tried, whether it was downstream or at the cliff, she couldn't find a trace of Alec.
He was missing. No one knew if he was dead or alive.
Her phone rang, and she picked it up. Alfred's voice came through the receiver.
"Mortimer is still lying on his hospital bed. Why did you make me see him?"
"No reason. I just wanted to make sure," Jenny replied. The Glasses had motives to hurt Alec, but so did Mortimer. That was why she had to be sure of it.
On the other end, Alfred frowned. "What happened?"
"Nothing." Jenny didn't plan on telling Alfred anything. She couldn't guarantee that he would lay low once he knew. As if afraid of him pushing the matter, she asked, "Is everything alright with the company?"
"Yes. Everything is fine." Alfred didn't press the matter. Based on how urgently Jenny went back to Parrington and then asked him to check on Mortimer in the hospital, he could guess that something had happened to Alec.
But what could it be?
Alfred had no idea, and he found no interest in it. He thought that life was going pretty well. Although it didn't compare to being the head of Faust Group, an ordinary life filled with honest work was pretty enjoyable.
"Help me keep an eye on the Glasses. See if there's any suspicious activity on their end." Finally, Jenny placed her focus on the Glasses. They were the most suspicious of all.
"Alright."
The call ended, and Jenny began considering her next moves. Was she to stay and continue looking for him?
But she still had to work in Walter Inc and take revenge on Alec's behalf. There were many things to deal with in Jeneration Group, too.
She felt frustrated at the thought of all these things. Of course, what troubled her the most was that Alec was absolutely nowhere to be found.
