Charlie had no idea why Maria was interested in examining the school history files, but he was always inclined to indulge her whims. He accompanied her willingly. Upon entering the archives, Maria showed no hesitation in including Charlie. Upon noticing that the archives were organized chronologically, she immediately began searching for the filing cabinets corresponding to Lily’s time at Stanford.
Charlie had initially assumed that Maria would be looking for documents from the early 20th century or even the late 19th century, so he naturally headed to those cabinets to search for records. To his surprise, Maria’s focus was on the 1980s. This caught his attention, as it coincided with the period when his mother attended Stanford, prompting his curiosity about what Maria was trying to uncover.
Maria was open with Charlie and smiled as she explained, “I came here primarily to look into your mother’s background and to see some of her records from her time at Stanford.”
Charlie nodded lightly and inquired, “Why are you suddenly interested in my mother’s past?”
