“But how can the Hordes fuse their multiple mana cores?” Menadion asked. “Shouldn’t they reject each other like Nalrond’s did?”

“They most likely would.” Solus scratched her head, frowning. “If a body can’t sustain more than one core, the obvious solution would be to develop additional auxiliary cores—but that’s impossible too.”

“Exactly. I’ve never met anyone with more or fewer auxiliary cores than others of their race,” Lith said. “The number depends entirely on body size, and it never exceeds what’s needed to distribute mana evenly.

“Besides, how would anyone even know where to form an extra auxiliary core so it fuels your abilities instead of blowing you up? From my experience with violet cores, there’s a hard limit to how much mana a body can hold. Cross that line, and it goes boom.”

“Still, I think we’re onto something,” Solus said, thinking it through. “Consider this—the undead’s blood core is stronger than a bright violet core, yet they can’t reach white core. Not even Malyshka’s children managed it. What if it’s because the undead don’t have auxiliary cores?”

The group mulled it over for a long time before eventually giving up, unaware they had come within a single step of the answer. Like many before them, more urgent matters demanded their attention.
