Solus raised an air shield around herself and Menadion, wrinkling her nose.
“This is what you wanted to show me? The sewers? Out of everything in Amrok, you thought I’d enjoy touring this?”
Menadion gestured calmly toward the underground canals and branching tunnels.
“You asked what my work here involved. This is it.”
She let her gaze drift over the flowing water and intricate stonework.
“It might look unpleasant to you, but this is what keeps the great cities of the Kingdom clean—and more importantly, alive.”
Solus frowned. “What do you mean?”
Menadion glanced at her.
“Do you remember how Lith lived before he went to the academy?”
Solus grimaced. “If you mean the outhouse outside his house, yeah. Hard to forget.”
“That,” Menadion said evenly, “is still how most people in Lutia live—and will continue to live unless something like this is built.”
