Ch. 931..940
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 932-It Was Obvious, No?
She didn't expect the inside of the villa to appear so calm. There was little to no one inside the space as the butler led her through. The interior of the villa was far better than the exterior, too, like it had been under proper maintenance for a long time.
There was a small mansion to the side, which appeared to look just as rundown, though Jenny guessed that was only a mask for its actual furnished interior.
A room on the first floor of the mansion caught Jenny's attention, as it was surrounded by guards.
Stephanie might be in there, Jenny thought. She hurriedly memorized the place in mind.
The butler brought her into the mansion, where Jenny finally met the man orchestrating this whole charade-Zeke Faust.
"Have a seat, Miss Walter." The old man nodded at her, gesturing at a seat to the side. He was being more than courteous right now, so Jenny quietly went to take a seat.
Silence ensued. The old man then asked, "Aren't you curious as to why I've asked you to come. Miss Walter?"
"Do I need to be?" Jenny retorted. It was obvious, no?
She hadn't any feud with the Fausts, so they had no reason to come after her.
The only other possibility was that she was being used as bait for someone else.
Zeke laughed. "You are as intelligent as they say. No wonder you have so many admirers."
"What's your plan, Mr. Faust?"
"I know what you're thinking. I won't be able to deal with the consequences of this, right?" Zeke continued on as if Jenny hadn't asked.
Jenny gazed at him in confusion.
"Truly, I never expected things to come to this. All I can blame is myself for having been so blind to others' genius besides my own sons and grandchildren."
He had raised them by hand since they were young, after all, so he was sure they were equipped with far more intelligence than ordinary people. His expectation that they might win in the inheritance rat race had greatly crashed into the ground after Alec turned up.
The boy was too difficult to control. Zeke could only resort to this now that things were beginning to spiral out of hand.
Jenny said, ’Why does it matter who inherits the family? Alec is as much a Faust as your own line of children. The family will surely invite great success and wealth if he becomes the new heir. Isn't that what you desire?"
"It is. But sadly, I cannot pass the family to an outsider.’ No matter what, Alec would only always be an outsider to Zeke.
He also had a feeling that his own line of children would permanently lose the claim to the family once Alec took over. That couldn't happen under his watch.
He had fought hard to claim the title of the family head all those years ago, so he couldn't let it go so easily.
Knowing there was no way she could dissuade him, Jenny continued, "Are you 100% certain that your family will perpetuate if Alec dies?"
"No." Zeke shook his head, sighing. "But if I don't do this, the family will no longer be headed by my line."
"I see. I have nothing else to say, then." Jenny shrugged, reclining in her seat as if she weren't the least bit worried.
It intrigued Zeke. "Aren't you worried about Alec? Or should I say, do you really have that much confidence that he'll succeed?"
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 933-Eye for An Eye "I think you may have overestimated how important I am to him. He's not an idiot. You really think he’d cave just because you have me in hand?" It's not like Zeke would even guarantee her safety if Alec died.
That was how she was even more certain that Alec wouldn't give up so easily.
Yet Jenny wouldn't lie and say she wasn't worried.
Zeke disagreed, however. "On the contrary, I think you're quite important to him.
He might even risk it all for you."
"Wishful thinking, sir.’ Jenny laughed gently, though she wasn't in the mood to laugh.
"We shall see then."
Jenny chewed on her cheek, guessing Alec was probably on his way over right this second. She just wasn't sure if he'd done enough preparations for the conflict.
No way would he come empty-handed, right?
In truth, Jenny pretty much guessed it right. Alec wasn't there to meet his death, but he wasn't going to risk Jenny's life either. Hence, he’d already prepared to save Jenny, even at the cost of his life.
Zeke closed his eyes slightly as if resting. So, Jenny turned to scan her surroundings, watching for any openings she could use later.
A commotion soon came at the door as if someone had come. Jenny looked at it, knowing it was most likely Alec outside.
Zeke opened his eyes, too, nodding at Jenny. "Let's go take a look, shall we?’ Jenny silently followed behind the old man, suddenly thinking she might be able to overpower him right that second.
Yet she instantly noticed several red dots flare on her chest before disappearing.
Her sudden thought disappeared just as fast. She wouldn't be able to accomplish her plan fast enough to prevent several finger-sized bullets from riddling her body.
Outside the door, Alec was scanning his surroundings. "Where's Jenny?" he asked, irritated that Jenny was nowhere to be found.
"Don't you worry, Mr. Alec. Miss Walter will be here right away," The butler said, all smiles as if Alec wasn't there to be sent to his death.
Alec scoffed, ignoring him.
Zeke soon turned up with Jenny beside him. Alec was about to walk up to her when the nozzle of a gun was pressed up to Jenny's temple.
"I'd advise against coming over, Alec," Zeke warned, though he still appeared as kind as when Alec first met him.
Yet it couldn't be more apparent now that it was just an act the old man put up.
In truth, he was far crueler than anyone in the family.
"I don't understand what's happening, sir," Alec said as if he really was clueless.
Zeke ignored him, saying instead, "You know, if you hadn't hurt Xavier, I wouldn't have even considered going to this extent."
Sure, he had never imagined letting Alec take over, but neither had he longed for the boy's death. But when things got out of control, especially with his son's death at Alec's hand, he really couldn't just sit by and watch on anymore.
That was why Alec needed to pay with his life today.
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 934-truth of the matter.
So, it's pointless to try and argue the specifics."
"Do you mean to avenge your son today, then, sir?" Alec asked.
Zeke frowned, noticing how fearless Alec seemed. It was almost as if he didn't care that he was going to die.
But that was impossible, right? There was no one alive who wouldn't be scared of dying.
Still, Zeke had his butler toss a handgun to Alec, just in case. "Here you go."
Alec snorted, picking the gun up and fiddling with it. "You really think I'd die for Jenny Walter?’ The safety on the gun pressed against Jenny's temple was swiftly turned off.
Alec's expression fell along with the ensuing sound.
God, he was so scared right now.
Even if the Fausts wouldn't be able to handle revenge from the Walters, it didn't mean Alec was ready to risk Jenny dying.
With a helpless chuckle, Alec raised the gun, turning off the safety. "Alright. You win. Let her go."
"You don't have the right to negotiate with me right now, Alec Faust," Zeke shot out coldly.
Alec met his expression with an equally cold glare. "Really. How do I know you won't hurt her once I kill myself, then?"
"You don’t need my guarantee. I have no qualms with the Walters nor with Jenny herself. Unless you force my hand, of course."
No use pissing off the Walters if Alec died on the spot.
But if he refused to, well.
Yet Alec had never liked being at the whims of someone else. He checked the gun barrel, then swiftly pointed the nozzle at Zeke's forehead.
A swarm of bodyguards immediately ran out, pointing their guns at Alec.
But Alec remained calm. He chuckled, "If you won't let her go, then let's all die together today, shall we?"
He was confident he could kill the old man before anyone even pressed their triggers. His only regret would be that he couldn't save Jenny.
Alec met Jenny's gaze, seeing how fearless she was right now. Evidently, she had faith in Alec's decision. She even smiled at Alec, signaling his trust in him.
Right before anyone could press their triggers, another group of men swarmed around Zeke's guards. Leading them was Evan himself, who glared at Zeke and barked out, "Let Jenny go."
Zeke eyed him, having realized he had underestimated the young man. At most, he only imagined Evan would marry into the Walters.
Looks like he was a far more complicated character than that.
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 935-re of Them "Evan?!’ Jenny gaped in shock upon seeing Evan appear, especially with this gang of men. "Something is up," she thought. There was even some foreign blood among those men.
The calmest person was Alec.
He was the one who'd notified Evan of this series of events, and they'd made their necessary preparations for whatever they would face. Alec also had a feeling that Evan would still have figured it out on his own if he hadn’t notified him, so he might as well tell him to boost their chances of saving Jenny.
Evan shot Jenny a reassuring look. ’Don't worry. I'll make sure you're safe."
But that was the least of Jenny's concerns right now.
Why was Evan leading all these men? Hadn't he just been busy with his studies and work like he told her?
Sadly, now was not the time for those questions.
Zeke narrowed his eyes on Evan, realizing something. "You were the one behind Xavier's death, weren't you?"
Evan neither confirmed nor denied it, which was enough assent in the old man's eyes. Zeke's expression instantly turned steely, flitting between Evan and Alec as he hissed, "So this is your accomplice.’ No wonder he was unable to find any information on how those men were connected to Alec. Turns out Alec had found an accomplice in someone Zeke would never have guessed.
"I don't care what grudge you have against Alec Faust, just let Jenny go, and you can have him to yourself to do as you please,’ Evan grunted out.
One less rival, one less chance of losing Jenny.
"You really think you can get away with killing my son?" How could Zeke ever forgive himself for not avenging his son's death?
Evan scoffed nonchalantly. "Do you really think you can take on all my men? Or are you ready to risk your own neck for this?"
The old man would be the first to die if conflict broke out.
Zeke merely gave his butler a glance before the man shot out a flare toward the sky. It had already erupted into sparks before either Alec or Evan could do anything.
They shot one another a look. This could only mean Zeke had reinforcements nearby, and they would soon flood the premises.
Sure enough, another group of men soon encircled Evan's, now forming a threelayer gunfight cake.
Luke strode over, gun propped up by his shoulder. "You won't get out of here alive, Alec!" he sneered at the man. "Take shelter in the mansion first, Grandad.
I'll take care of them," he then said to Zeke, absolutely bristling with excitement.
There was very little chance they’d lose.
He'd sent his bullets into Alec's skull if it was the last thing he did.
"I don't think I'll make it."
Zeke nodded, telling him to be careful before retreating into the building. Neither Alec nor Evan stopped him, as they couldn't risk Jenny's life, as she had been dragged back into the mansion.
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 936-Idiot After Zeke and Jenny had gone back into the building, Luke cocked the gun up, grinning in glee as he gazed at Alec. ’Start groveling, and I just might give you a quick death, Alec!"
Alec glared at him, cursing, ’Fucking idiot."
"What did you say?!' Luke yelled, not expecting Alec to be so arrogant even at a time like this. Wasn't he worried he'd die?
Alec ignored him, turning to Evan instead. "Truce?"
"Truce." Evan nodded. Better to bring Jenny to safety first before getting Alec to die.
Gunshots immediately rang out, and if not for one of Luke's men pulling him to the side at the very last second, he would've instantly gotten hit.
"Fuck! Kill them all! Now!" Luke roared.
War immediately broke out with casualties on both sides, though everyone stayed away from the mansion where Zeke and Jenny were in.
Meanwhile, Jenny listened to the gunfight outside while her heart stuttered with each bang.
Could Alec and Evan escape from it unscathed?
"Do you think Alec will make it out alive today?" Zeke suddenly asked.
Jenny shot him a look. "Of course."
She trusted Alec.
"Hmm. Why do I feel otherwise?" Zeke chuckled. If Alec could survive that commotion outside, the Fausts would never go to anyone else's hands save for his.
"Is Stephanie in the other building?" Jenny inquired.
"Yes. Why? Planning how to save her?" Shouldn't Jenny be more worried about saving herself right now?
"I'm sure no harm will come to her by your men, yes? She's no extraordinary figure."
Zeke didn’t answer that question, merely smiled.
Stephanie, on the other hand, was just as tense from hearing the gunshots outside the room. What was happening, she thought frantically. Why were there people shooting?
She crept to the window and looked outside but saw nothing. It seemed like the fight was limited to the space on the other side of the premises. She gritted her teeth and wondered if the guards outside her door had left too. She'd be able to escape then.
With that in mind, she went to open the door.
"What are you doing?" One of the guards standing outside questioned, his expression menacing.
Stephanie cleared her throat. "What's going on? I keep on hearing gunshots. N "It's none of your business. Now get back inside!" The man slammed the door shut in front of her, stopping her from leaving.
Stephanie sighed and went to sit back down. She couldn't calm down anymore, especially after seeing Alec run past in that short minute the door was open.
Did Jenny ask Alec to save her?
The more Stephanie thought about it, the more guilty she felt. She'd never be able to forgive herself if Jenny and Alec got hurt because of her.
Out in the gardens, Alec and Evan were now hiding behind some cover.
"If this goes on, neither of us is gonna make it out alive," Evan snapped, shooting behind him before turning back to Alec.
"Don't worry. We'll be alright." Alec seemed confident, as if he'd already prepared for the worst.
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 937--Lousy Brat Alec had already told Vincent to bring backup besides notifying Evan. They should be there any minute now.
Sure enough, another wave of reinforcements arrived, but they were neither Alec's men nor anyone else's there.
When police sirens followed them, everyone froze in sheer shock.
Zeke would've handled the police accordingly if he'd planned to kill Alec today, so they wouldn't have come even if someone had called for them, nor if they'd heard the hundreds of gunshots. Yet right now, with the large police force at their doorstep, it was evident they’d come prepared for the gunfight.
Alec swiftly tossed away his handguns, even removing his prints from them.
Evan's mouth twitched, annoyed, but he did the same. He then had his men disperse before the police barged into the premises.
Luckily for them, Luke and his men were still recovering from the shock. Hence, they didn't escape first thing. That, or they assumed the police wouldn't do anything to them. Just as they were aiming for Alec, the police came and surrounded them.
"Put your weapons down!’ A police officer barked out, gun pointing right at Luke's chest.
Luke blinked, confused. Did the police not know who he was? How dare they speak to him like this? "I'm the Faust family’s-"
Before he could finish, Zeke marched out of his little hideout, to everyone's surprise.
Just as Luke thought his grandfather might be there to help placate the police, the old man went to give him a tight slap across the cheek. Luke was left reeling from the pain and shock, now more confused than ever.
"Lousy brat!" Zeke cried angrily.
"Grandad, l-“ "Shut the hell up!* Zeke growled out before Luke could say anything else. He then turned to the police officer.
The officer before Luke was none other than the new Deputy Commissioner of Police of Bardoff City, Leonard Sullivan. He didn't have strong ties to any of the families in Bardoff City, so he wouldn't hesitate to bring down the law on anyone who committed a crime, rich or not.
Zeke never expected him to be there. In fact, he'd informed Leonard's superior of his intentions today.
"My grandson is responsible for this, Mr. Sullivan. He's held a bitter grudge against his cousin Alec ever since his father passed. That's why he organized this 'event' today. It was my fault for not stopping him from going this far,’ Zeke sighed, playing the victim.
Luke's eyes grew to the size of saucers upon hearing that.
How was he responsible for all this??
He'd only been listening to his grandfather's orders!
Luke wanted to say the same, but Zeke's butler quickly shot him a stern look, shutting him up once again. If he spoke up now, he'd put their entire family at risk.
Leonard knew who Zeke was but still didn't care. "We'll see who's telling the truth after our investigation."
No one there was going to escape under his watch. He thought it was time those pompous Bardoff pigs got what was coming to them.
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 938-That's It?
Jenny and the rest were being interrogated in the Bardoff City Police Headquarters. She didn't mind, of course. She was one of the victims in all this, after all. All that worried her were Alec and Evan since they'd participated in the gunfight earlier. Who knows what instrument of the law might be held against their necks?
Stephanie was in another interrogation room, and sitting across from her was Leonard himself. "So, you don't know anything that went on?"
"Mhm.' It's not like Stephanie was lying. She really was clueless.
Leonard nodded. "Alright. You can go now."
"Huh? That's it?" Things had been so tense when she came. She'd imagined the situation to be more complicated than it was right now.
Leonard stood up, ready to escort her out. "Come on then."
Stephanie followed behind him, still confused. "What'll happen to the others?"
"You mean Jenny specifically, don't you?"
"Yeah. She's innocent, by the way.” Leonard stopped, then turned back to look at Stephanie. "You really don't remember me?"
Stephanie cocked her head curiously. Did they know each other?
"We sat together in freshman year. You always pointed out my weight, remember?"
Stephanie gaped like a fish. "You…how is this possible?"
"What? I told you I could lose weight." Leonard grinned. He'd recognized Stephanie from the get-go. She was just as sweet and cute as she used to be.
Stephanie beamed. "I really couldn't tell it was you. Wow, you lost a whole lot of weight’’ "Yeah. Come, you can wait for your friend outside. She'll be alright." Leonard gestured at some benches outside the station, then eyed his watch. It shouldn't take long now.
Stephanie didn't sit. "Will she be in there for long? I can stay here to wait for her if so."
Leonard sighed. "Alright then."
Stephanie began rocking on her heels in anticipation while Leonard went back inside.
She didn't blame Jenny for coming over. In fact, she felt guilty for having involved her in something so dangerous again.
"You know him?" Paul asked, coming over to her side. He'd been waiting by the door since Stephanie and everyone else was lugged back to the station.
Jenny's task for him was to alert the police at the right moment, asking specifically for the new Deputy Commissioner instead of anyone else there who'd already been bribed by the families. Paul didn't know who this Leonard guy was, but he trusted Jenny's plans. They always worked, after all.
Stephanie's smile faded when she saw Paul, who, in return, grumbled internally about her reaction. Was she that unhappy to see him?
Surprised to hear that Paul was the one who called the police, she said," Thank you.' No matter what, Paul still saved her.
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 939-My Jurisdiction Paul didn't respond to her thanks. He was still hung up on the fact that Stephanie knew Leonard Sullivan. "Do you know that new Police Commissioner?” "Yeah. He was my classmate.’ Classmate?
Paul frowned, feeling threatened all of a sudden. He'd seen how bright Stephanie's smile was when she spoke to Leonard and how close that man was to her when he escorted her out. It felt like his advances were being rejected.
'TH drive you back. Let's go.” Paul sighed, pushing down all those worrying thoughts of his.
Stephanie shook her head. "I'm gonna wait for Jenny and Alec to come out. N "…alright. I'll stay with you." Paul pursed his lips but didn't stop her. He could spend more time with her that way.
"Stay away from Jenny from now on, please. You'll only get involved in more dangerous situations like this with her current status." If it weren't for Jenny, Stephanie wouldn't have been abducted.
Stephanie shot him a look. "What if it was you and Alec? Would you stop being friends with him if you were in my position?"
Paul wanted to point out how different he was compared to Stephanie but ended up swallowing his words. "Fine, fine, do whatever you want.’ She was just as stubborn as he remembered!
While the two waited outside, Leonard checked Jenny's interrogation, letting her out after making sure nothing was amiss.
He was just about to interrogate Alec personally when his superior called him into his office. Leonard was then subjected to a series of yelling and table slamming by the Police Commissioner for his actions while he silently waited for the man to finish.
"Release them all at once!" the Commissioner instructed once he was done screaming.
"They broke the law by carrying and using arms, sir. In broad daylight, too. We can't just let them go! What would people think?" Leonard questioned.
Even the online media masses had turned their attention to the commotion earlier, arguing that the police force should do something about it.
"Just tell the public it was one of our training sessions." The Police Commissioner had long thought of an excuse to placate the media, not intending to open a case.
"These people are beyond the reach of law because of the choices we make.
Are you sure this is what you want in the city?" Leonard questioned. He'd dreamt of being a police officer since he was young, of serving justice and punishing those doing wrong. But now that he was in the force, he realized that truly doing so was a far more arduous task than ever imagined.
His superior shot him a glare. "What do you think? You know how powerful these people are. You don't expect us to have them sentenced to death, do you?"
Leonard gritted his teeth but said nothing, still upset about it.
"I'm warning you, Leonard. Don't do anything foolish just because you think it's what justice demands. This is Bardoff City, and it is under my jurisdiction. So let them all go now!" his superior demanded.
Leonard could only comply because his superior's word was law here in the city.
The alternative to obeying the man's order was equivalent to turning his badge and gun in.
With a sigh, he left the office. Arms crossed over his chest, Leonard gnawed on his cheek, the bundle of tension in his chest never once declining.
To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 940-His Fault When Alec, Evan, and Jenny walked out of the station, they met Zeke just as he was leaving, though the old man's expression was clearly more upset than anyone else's.
"Oh? Are you sure you wanna leave your grandson back in there? Not worried his tongue will slip?’ Alec scoffed.
Leonard was pretty brave. He was adamant about someone taking responsibility for what happened. Hence, upon his insistence, Luke could only be the scapegoat.
"Watch yourself, Alec!" Zeke barked out furiously.
"What do you mean, sir?" Alec gasped in faux shock, eyes still colored with disdain. "I’m only concerned about you and your family."
Zeke sneered, then left with his men.
Alec, Jenny, and Evan then spotted Paul and Stephanie waiting outside.
Stephanie hurriedly went up to Jenny, scanning her body for injuries. "Are you okay? Did you get hurt?"
"No, I'm okay.' Jenny shook her head, glad to see Stephanie safe and sound.
Thank goodness, or everything that happened today would've gone to waste.
"It was my fault for being so careless," Stephanie sighed, still guilty.
"Heck no. I should be the one apologizing. You would never have been subjected to this if we weren't friends," Jenny said, holding her friend's hand.
Alec, meanwhile, had enough of them taking responsibility for all this." Stop it, you two. This is all my fault."
"Yeah. His fault.’ Evan agreed. There wouldn't have been shit hitting the fan if it weren't for Alec.
Jenny turned her gaze to him, wanting her questions from before answered.
Spotting Jenny's pointed look at himself, Evan quickly looked away. "I better go now. I still have stuff to take care of. Get some rest soon, Jen. Be careful."
Who knows if something like that won't happen again? It didn't seem like Zeke Faust was ready to let his grudge go, at any rate.
Jenny didn't stop him. She'd get her answers soon enough anyway. Neither did Alec step in to answer her questions. Best to have Evan handle his own mess.
"None of you had dinner yet, right? Let's go then," Paul suggested, not wanting to separate from Stephanie so soon.
Sure enough, several stomachs began growling in protest.
The four then went to some nearby restaurant by car, with Paul and Alec in front and the women in the back.
"How'd you know Sullivan would come, Jenny?" Paul asked curiously.
Jenny smiled secretively. "I just know what he's like, is all."
"Do you always pay attention to the folks in the police force?' Alec asked. Jenny wouldn't have known about Leonard otherwise.
"A little bit." Jenny nodded.
"He's Stephanie's ex-classmate. How coincidental, huh?" Paul piped up, his tone just the slightest bit jealous.
Jenny was surprised to hear that. "Really?"
"Yeah. Freshman year." Stephanie nodded. "I wouldn't have recognized him if he hadn't told me. He's changed a lot since school." "Looks like fate's on your side." Jenny beamed. If she'd known it before, she would have worked with him to send Zeke into lockup for a couple days at least.
