Ch. 671..680
To Be Yours Again by Taylor Chapter 671-It's All the Same to Me By the time Jenny saw James, he’d been staying at home for one whole day without going out or eating anything, so he looked particularly disheveled.
Jenny felt bad seeing him like that. "James, are you alright?"
He smiled at her and sat on the sofa with a vacant look in his eyes. ’I guess so. I couldn't accept it at first. But as time passes, it's not that hard to stomach now."
Perhaps his fate had been sealed since the day he was born as a Windsor. He was destined to not be able to attain happiness.
"It's not as bad as you think. Even if Jolene succeeds in her plan, as long as you remain firm in not marrying her, she can't do anything.' Before coming over, she'd seen online rumors about the two of them getting married.
People hired by Jolene most likely spread it.
The more she thought about it, the more despicable she found Jolene and her mother to be. They were ruining someone else's happiness for their own selfish reasons. How abhorrent!
James chuckled and looked at Jenny. "In the past, I didn't care much about whom I would marry because I thought I wouldn't like anyone anyway. It didn't matter back then, but it's different now. Someone has occupied my heart, so I'm not willing to marry anyone else."
His gaze was so fervent that Jenny immediately understood what he meant.
She wasn't prepared for his sudden confession and was at a loss about what to do.
"Jenny, won't you consider giving me a chance?" James asked.
If Jenny were willing to give him a chance, even if it meant falling out with the entire Walter family, he wouldn't marry Jolene.
Jenny looked guilty as she replied, "In my heart, you're like family to me."
Once she said this, James understood what she meant. He wanted to smile but failed to do so.
"I'll take care of things with the Walters and make sure nobody pressures you.
Our families' collaboration won't be affected either." Jenny thought that resolving these issues would suffice, and James would only need to convince his family, which shouldn't be a problem.
However, James shook his head at that. "Since I can't marry you, it doesn't matter whom I marry."
"James…"
"Jenny, I know you're doing this for my sake, but please don't get involved. I'll take care of it myself." James interrupted her, having already made his decision.
Since Jolene wanted to marry him so badly, he would grant her wish. "Fine, then. Let's see how long she can last in my hands," James thought bitterly.
After Jenny came out of James' villa, she stood at the door for a long time and didn't leave. At that moment, she was in a very bad mood.
She regretted returning to the Walters. If she hadn't gone back, Jolene wouldn't have set her sights on James-at least not as boldly as she did now. Jenny blamed herself for ruining James' lifelong happiness.
Jenny sighed helplessly. Then, she got up and prepared to leave. Right then, the door of the neighboring villa swung open, and out came two people. Jenny looked over instinctively and froze in place.
It was Alec and Blake.
"Miss Walter," Blake greeted Jenny with a faint smile upon seeing her.
Jenny nodded in response and looked at Alec. "Have the two of them moved in together already? They're progressing quite fast," she remarked internally.
Maybe it was because nothing was going smoothly for Jenny recently, she felt annoyed when she saw the two of them together.
"Are you here to see Mr. Windsor, Miss Walter?" Blake asked deliberately. She obviously knew that James lived next door.
Jenny nodded and replied curtly, "Yes."
She didn't feel like talking to the two of them. After a simple greeting, she turned and left.
Alec watched her back as she left. He could feel that Jenny was in a bad mood.
He had been in a good mood earlier, but it quickly soured when he saw how gloomy Jenny was.
To Be Yours Again by Taylor Chapter 672-Come at Me if You Can "James was tricked by Jolene Walter and is likely to be forced to marry her. Miss Walter is probably not very happy about it. She and James have a close relationship, and James has been pursuing her. If this hadn't happened, perhaps they would have ended up together," Blake remarked offhandedly.
Alec glanced at her and said, "You seem to know a lot about these things."
"What's so strange about that? It's all over the internet. Only people like you who don't go online don't pay attention to all this," Blake explained casually.
Alec didn't ask any further but just looked at the villa where James lived.
Jenny drove back to Walter Castle. As soon as she entered, she saw Jolene and her mother looking pleased with themselves while Jolene tried on clothes.
"Mom, do you think I should wear this to the engagement banquet? Is it too plain?” Jolene was wearing a blue dress and twirling happily in front of Rowena. It would be Jolene and Brandon's engagement banquet in two days, but now it seemed that it would likely become Jolene and James' engagement banquet instead.
Jenny felt increasingly angry as she thought about it, especially when she saw how pleased they were, without any guilt for ruining someone else's happiness.
She strode forward and grabbed Jolene’s chin swiftly to tilt her head up. Jolene stared up at her in shock; the next moment, Jenny gave her two tight slaps.
Jolene froze, and so did Rowena. It happened too suddenly, so neither of them knew how to react.
It wasn't until the pain hit her that Jolene screamed, "Ah! Jenny, I'll kill you!"
She wanted to attack Jenny, but unfortunately, she wasn't a march for Jenny.
She swung her arms around for a while but couldn't even touch Jenny's sleeves.
"Kill me? Come at me if you can. The only thing you're good at is screaming, you useless piece of trash!" Jenny shouted angrily, throwing Jolene aside and turning her gaze to Rowena.
Rowena felt a sense of fear for no apparent reason when Jenny stared at her.
"What do you intend to do? Your dad is still at home."
"Feeling scared?" Jenny sneered and walked closer to her. "It's too late to be afraid now. Why weren't you scared when you went and set James up, huh?"
"Don't poke your nose into other people's business." Rowena tried to quell the terror she felt in her heart. After all, she was the elder, so she couldn't show any weakness in front of Jenny.
Jenny sneered with clenched fists. "Funny you should say I'm poking my nose into other people's business? James is family to me. Scheming against him is equivalent to scheming against me. I won't let you have your way!"
"If you dare to ruin Jo in any way, I'll make sure you'll pay for it with your life! ■ Rowena was equally angered. For her, Jolene's happiness was of the utmost importance. If Jenny dared to damage Jolene's chances, Rowena would fight her with everything she had.
At those words, Jenny laughed lightly and took two steps back. "Is that so? How are you going to make sure I'll pay with my life?"
Her sudden retreat befuddled Rowena. Just as she was about to speak, she suddenly realized someone's gaze was on her.
Looking up, she saw Graham standing at the staircase and staring at her intently.
"Rowena, I believe you're capable of doing it. After all, for Jolene's sake, you could scheme against James, so naturally, you would also kill me for her," Jenny said with a smile tinged with a hint of coldness that seemed to implicate something. With that, Jenny turned around and started to go upstairs. "But it would depend on whether you're capable of doing that."
Jenny wasn't afraid of Rowena. On the contrary, she was unhappy that Rowena had been inactive lately, as she'd yet to obtain evidence of the latter's wrongdoings.
Just as Jenny went back to her room, Graham approached Rowena.
"Graham, I was just-"
Graham slapped Rowena in the face, his gaze icy. "If you dare to touch Jenny, I too, will make sure you'll pay for it with your life.
To Be Yours Again by Taylor Chapter 673-The Windsor Family Agrees 'Very well, Graham! Ill remember what you did today!" Rowena swore wordlessly as she looked at the man before her with overwhelming hatred.
She had been married to Graham for so many years, but he'd never treated her kindly. Now that Jenny had returned, he didn't even treat her like she was his wife anymore. Since things had come to this, there was no need for her to hold back any longer.
Previously, the Glasses had asked her to gather intel on the Walter family's business secrets, but she'd refused because she considered herself a member of the Walters. But now, it seemed that Graham had never thought of her as part of the family at all.
"Let's see how you and your daughter can still be arrogant if the Walter family is gone!" Rowena exclaimed inwardly.
Graham ignored her. In his opinion, Rowena wouldn't be able to stir up much trouble even if she tried. He looked at Jolene and said coldly, "The Windsors has called and agreed to the engagement ceremony on Sunday. As for the wedding day, it'll be decided later."
"Really?" Jolene was so happy she almost jumped for joy. Her wish was about to come true, and it was easier than expected.
"I'm telling you, after the engagement, you have to behave yourself. If you get involved in any more trickery, I won't bail you out again, you hear me?" Graham felt that he'd done everything he could for his daughter. For Jolene's sake, he became the person he once hated the most. If Jolene still didn't behave herself after this, he would definitely not come to her rescue.
Jolene nodded hastily. "Dad, I understand. I promise I'll behave." Graham gave a cold snort and left Walter Castle.
After he left, Jolene went to Rowena and held her hand. "Mom, did you hear that? I'm about to be engaged to James!"
'Yes, I heard it." Rowena breathed a sigh of relief. She was afraid that Graham wouldn't help, and if that was the case, Jolene might not have been able to marry into the Windsor family.
"Jo, you need to be careful. Although you're about to be engaged, remember that engagement isn't marriage. Before you officially get married to James, we have to be cautious," Rowena warned. Then, she continued, "We have to make sure that the Windsors don't change their mind and be careful of people who might try to sabotage us." She looked up at Jenny's room on the second floor.
Jolene also stared in the same direction and showed an expression of hatred.
"Mom, I understand. No matter what she does now, I'll endure it. After I marry into the Windsors, I'll settle scores with her."
Right now, she had no support and wasn't a match for Jenny, so she could only endure.
Rowena patted her shoulder and said, "After you marry into the Windsors, you must win them over. As for the Walters, you can consider it nonexistent."
She'd decided to help her family deal with the Walters. Soon, the Walters might really disappear. She hinted at it to Jolene.
"Yeah, with the Windsors backing me up, I won't care about the Walters anymore," Jolene said, no longer concerned about Graham passing the Walters to Jenny.
"Even if Jenny takes over the Walters later on, she'll still be at my mercy after I marry into the Windsors," Jolene thought.
Meanwhile, Jenny tossed and turned on her bed.
Was there really no way out? Could she only stand by and watch James marry Jolene?
Actually, there was a way out. As long as the Windsors didn't agree to take Jolene in, she would stop Graham from making a move against the Windsors— they wouldn't become enemies and could still carry on with the plans to work together.
However, the prerequisite was that the Windsors had to firmly reject the engagement. Looking at the current situation, the Windsors were more inclined toward marriage between the two families. Even James seemed to agree to that.
In this case, no matter how hard Jenny tried, she wouldn't be able to change the situation.
To Be Yours Again by Taylor Chapter 674-Conditions Jenny was feeling upset when her phone rang. Seeing that Alec was calling her, she hesitated but decided to answer.
'What's up?’ Because of James' situation, Jenny wasn't in a good mood, so her tone was naturally not as cordial as before.
Hearing her impassive tone, Alec felt slightly annoyed at himself for making the call. “I have some information about the Glasses. If you're interested, come and see me."
'Oh, where are you?" Jenny asked.
Alec gave her an address that was in the villa area where they had run into each other.
’Is he asking her to go to the villa where they live together?" Jenny felt resistant as she considered that possibility.
"Are you coming or not?” Alec felt uneasy when she didn't speak. He had kindly offered to help, but the other party didn't seem to appreciate it. It seemed like a waste of time on his part. He wouldn't have bothered to deal with things like these normally. He only did it because he thought Jenny looked really down.
After hesitating for a moment, Jenny thought she should be rational. "I'll be there."
With that, Jenny got up from her bed and quickly went to Alec's villa. She was surprised to find that the villa where Alec lived was not the same one where he had come out with Blake.
'You live here?’ Jenny couldn't help asking out of curiosity.
Alec nodded. ’Yeah. Is there any problem?"
Jenny shook her head. Even though she had many questions, she didn't say anything in the end. Whether Alec was living with Blake was none of her business.
"Where is the information?" Jenny cut to the chase right away. Since James ' marriage to Jolene was inevitable, she should focus on other things that she could do in the meantime. They needed to take down the Glasses as soon as possible, as that would make James feel better. Jenny thought having success in work would help to balance out his emotional distress.
'Why are you so eager?' Alec asked, holding the file with the information in his hand. Seeing how Jenny was enthusiastic about the information but not really caring about him, he felt dissatisfied.
However, he quickly came to his senses. Why would he have that kind of thought? He didn't like Jenny, so why should he care whether she paid attention to him or not? Alec felt a headache coming on. It seemed that Blake's treatment wasn't working well; it didn't help him shake off this woman's influence on him.
Jenny took the file from Alec and read through it carefully. Soon, a smile appeared on her face. Everything that Alec uncovered would come in handy. It contained a lot of incriminating information on the Glass family, and with this, Jenny was more confident.
Closing the file, Jenny asked, "What are your conditions?"
Alec was stunned for a moment, failing to understand what she meant.
'You're not giving me this information for free, are you?’ She didn't believe Alec was giving it to her for free. He must want something in return for the information he had provided her.
Before Jenny asked, Alec had indeed planned to give it to her for free, but now he changed his mind.
"Why should he give it to her for free?" he pondered.
"After the downfall of the Glasses, I want a share of the pie," Alec replied.
He was too insignificant now. Even though he'd moved his business from Parrington to Bardoff City, he couldn't be too blatant with the Fausts of Bardoff City around. This resulted in him being unable to take on many projects.
Jenny nodded, not surprised by his request. ’Aren't you afraid that the Fausts will find out about us working together?" she asked.
She thought that the Fausts probably wouldn't want to see two families working together to take over another family, so they would definitely not approve of Alec wanting a share of the pie.
"I merged my Faust Group with Paul's Wagner Group. Whatever I get from this will be given to Wagner Group," Alec explained. There was only one Faust Group in Bardoff City, so when he decided to return to the Faust family, he merged his company into Paul's Wagner Group.
To Be Yours Again by Taylor Chapter 675-What's It to You?
Jenny was astounded by what she heard. She hadn't paid attention to this matter for a while and didn't expect Alec to have arranged everything so well.
Putting a hand on her chin, she looked at Alec quizzically. "Your actions show that you're very confident in taking down the Faust family."
Otherwise, Alec wouldn't have merged his company with Paul's. It was obvious that he wanted the Faust family and chose to give up on what he had built previously. Of course, he wasn't giving everything up entirely.
Since it was likely that Paul's family would become a formidable force in Bardoff City after the merger, albeit still inferior compared to the Ten Elites, it would still be helpful to Alec.
"Of course." Alec nodded. He wouldn't allow himself to fail in his plans.
Seeing how confident he was, Jenny didn't probe much. After all, Alec taking over the Faust family wouldn't harm her. "Okay, I agree with your condition."
Alec's information was quite valuable, after all. His asking for a share of the pie wasn't out of line. After discussing the matter, the two fell into silence. Jenny felt a little restless and awkward.
"Can I go now?"
"What's the hurry?" Alec asked, then quickly realizing that his words were inappropriate. Therefore, he quickly changed the subject. "I noticed you weren't in a good mood when I last saw you. Was it because of James?"
Alec was referring to the time when he saw her leave James' villa. She wasn't in a good mood then and wasn't much better now.
"Yeah." she nodded, not denying it.
"Is it because of him and Jolene? Are you unhappy that he’s marrying Jolene?"
Alec asked. He wasn't sure why he wanted to know. Somehow, he had an inexplicable desire to understand the situation.
"Of course. If he marries Jolene, wont his life be ruined?" Jenny sighed.
Alec didn't like the sound of that. Did that mean James wouldn't be ruined if he married Jenny?
"It takes two to tango, don't you think? You're an outsider, so you shouldn't mind their business too much." Alec sounded a little snarky as he commented on the situation indifferently.
Jenny glared at him and retorted irritably, "You don't know anything!"
James was set up, so how could he be held accountable for something he had no hand in?
"It's true that I don't, but I heard that the Walters and the Windsors have already made the announcement. They will be engaged on Sunday," Alec said with a cold smirk. He failed to understand what Jenny saw in James. What use is a man who could be so easily done in by two women?
Jenny was surprised to hear that. She quickly checked her phone. Sure enough, she saw that the Walters had deleted their previous engagement announcement with the Britts and changed it to the Windsors. It seemed that the two had reached an agreement.
She wasn't shocked at this outcome. When she left James' villa, she'd already guessed it. But even if it came as no surprise, it was still hard for her to accept that things went down this way.
Jolene and her mother had used utterly despicable means, and they succeeded.
It was ridiculous.
The more Jenny thought about it, the angrier she was. She felt that the two slaps she'd given Jolene before were too meager compared to the awful act she'd done. Jenny scolded herself for not slapping that bitch a few more times.
Noticing her getting angry over the matter, Alec felt a little irritated. "Just accept it. Even if you're not happy about it, they’ll still be engaged."
"What's it to you if they're getting engaged? Why do you care so much?" Jenny retorted, feeling like Alec was asking for a beating.
"What's it to you, then? Aren't you super concerned about it as well?" Alec fired back.
"It's different for me," Jenny said.
"How is it different for you?" Alec pressed. It was as if he was anxious to find out about something.
To Be Yours Again by Taylor Chapter 676-Any Consolation Is Meaningless Jenny wanted to say that James was her senior and was like family to her. But when she was about to say that, she suddenly noticed Alec's abnormal interest in her affairs. She stared at him suspiciously and said, "Mr. Faust, aren't you getting too involved in my business?"
"Do you really think I care? I was just worried our collaboration would be affected if you were in such a state. Otherwise, I wouldn't have bothered." Alec sneered, his eyes full of disdain.
"Is that so?” Jenny responded. She couldn't quite shake off the feeling that something was off.
To be exact, something had felt off about Alec ever since he had called her. He hadn't taken the initiative to see her since he went missing. Today, he called her and even handed her information about the Glasses. The reason behind his actions didn't seem as simple as he made them out to be.
"What else do you think it could be? You don't seriously think I care about you, do you?" He spoke sarcastically with contempt in his eyes.
Jenny had suspicions of that being the case, but now, that conjecture was thoroughly overturned.
"That would be the best. You and I aren't close friends or confidants, so you shouldn't ask me about my business in the future." Alec wasn't the only one capable of blunt and insensitive remarks. Two could play that game.
Alec was annoyed and felt that he was wasting his breath. "Rest assured that I'm not interested in your affairs."
"But I'm quite interested in your business, though." Jenny suddenly started smiling. "What's going on between you and Miss Watkins?"
Alec's expression stiffened. He couldn't quite catch up to Jenny's tone, which changed all of a sudden.
"What does it have to do with you?"
"Nothing. I'm just curious.’ Jenny smiled, not caring if Alec answered her question or not. She was just asking casually.
However, she was indeed a little curious. How did the young lady of the Watkins get involved with Alec? The Watkins was much more influential than the Walters-they were basically second only to the Fausts. Why would such a person support Alec? What were her motives for doing so?
Alec gave her an unamused glare and said coldly, "Don't be nosy. We're just business partners. You don't need to know things outside of our collaboration."
Jenny acknowledged what he said perfunctorily and grumbled that he was the one who started the topic first.
"I'll be leaving," she announced. She didn't want to waste her breath talking to him when they didn't have a common ground.
This time, Alec didn't stop her. He realized he'd been paying too much attention to her, which made him feel a little annoyed. He'd just done a therapy session with Blake in the morning, but he couldn't control his emotions when he saw Jenny again.
At that moment, Alec couldn't help but wonder if his fondness for Jenny was really just a psychological problem or if he actually liked her. He quickly dismissed the thought as soon as it arose, thinking it was impossible. He never looked back and wouldn't get hung up on a woman.
With that in mind, he got up and left. He had to keep himself busy, so he wouldn't have time to think too much.
After Jenny left Alec's villa, she walked past James' house and resisted the urge to knock on his door. She stared at the door for a while and left. At this time, any words of consolation were meaningless for him. Perhaps he didn't want any comfort either.
As she got into her car, Jenny suddenly remembered that Alec had said he'd merged his company with Paul's. Did this mean Paul had also come to Bardoff City?
"No! I have to warn Stephanie. Otherwise, Paul might bother her again," Jenny thought.
Unbeknownst to Jenny, Stephanie was sitting right across from Paul when she answered Jenny's call. The atmosphere was stifling.
To Be Yours Again by Taylor Chapter 677-Shouldn't I Hate You?
"I'll be careful. Okay. Let's have dinner together in a few more days."
Stephanie held her phone and perfunctorily responded to Jenny, but she couldn't help but glance nervously at Paul sitting opposite her.
She chose not to tell Jenny about Paul being right in front of her. She'd seen the news reports for the past few days and knew the Walters were in turmoil. She didn't want Jenny to worry about her during such a time. Besides, Paul was just sitting across from her and hadn't done anything to her, they hadn't even spoken to each other.
After hanging up the call, Stephanie placed her phone on the table and carefully picked up her glass to take a shallow sip of water, barely able to suppress her fear. But no matter how much she tried to stay calm, Paul could still see her fear toward him.
"Are you afraid of me?"
Stephanie unconsciously tightened her grip on the glass and took a while to relax before replying, "No."
"Really? You look so nervous; it doesn't seem like you're unaffected." Paul sneered. They hadn't seen each other for a few days, but Stephanie's lying skills didn't seem to have improved at all.
Stephanie put down her glass of water and looked at him. "What do you want?"
"Can't I see you when there's nothing going on? Did you think you could relax just because you came to Bardoff City?" His intent gaze fixed on Stephanie made her feel like she was suffocating.
Stephanie couldn't catch her breath under his gaze but still bravely asked,"
What have I done to offend you? Why do you have to keep following me?" She had to flee her hometown with her parents because of him. What more could he want?
"You've offended me in many ways." Paul felt inexplicably annoyed, sensing her seething anger directed at him. If Stephanie hadn't tried to escape again and again, would he have to keep pursuing her?
His words made Stephanie's blood boil. "What have I done to offend you? Tell me!"
She was very emotional as she shot up from her chair. "Am I not miserable enough now? I've left my hometown, yet you're still chasing me. Are you trying to drive me to death?"
Paul had never seen Stephanie so out of control, and his heart was twisted with pain. "I never intended to do that."
"Oh, really? Then what do you want now?" The moment Paul appeared, Stephanie felt like she couldn't control herself. She thought she was sick because just laying her eyes on him was enough to trigger her stress response.
Paul pursed his lips and stayed silent for a while before speaking up again," I just came to say hello and ask you how you've been." His tone was much gentler now.
He wasn't as overbearing as before, but Stephanie didn't relax just because of that. "I was doing well. Everything was going great before I saw you," she replied.
Although she sometimes missed him at night, more often than not, she enjoyed the days without him.
"Do you just hate me so much?" Paul didn't understand. She'd said she loved him before, so how could things change so quickly?
Stephanie found his words ridiculous. She slowly sat back in her seat and tried to control her emotions.
"Shouldn't I hate you? If it weren't for you, my parents and I wouldn't have had to leave the place we've lived in since I was a child. Don't you feel even a hint of guilt?" Before Paul could reply, Stephanie laughed at herself and went on, "I'm so stupid. How could someone like you feel guilty? In your mind, you probably think I don't know what's good for me
To Be Yours Again by Taylor Chapter 678-You'll Never Get Away From Me Paul didn't say anything. He had really thought that way before showing up. He felt he'd treated Stephanie well enough. He could give her anything she wanted as long as she didn't leave. But she was never satisfied and always thought about leaving.
Of course, he didn't like that. However, now that he saw Stephanie getting upset and losing control of her emotions because of him, Paul realized that he might have affected her adversely.
Paul asked tentatively, "What if…l mean, if I'm willing to marry you, would you-"
"No!" Stephanie interrupted him before he could finish speaking.
Paul's expression became as dark as thunderclouds, and he exuded a terrifying aura. "What you cared about previously was that I wouldn't marry you and give you a legitimate status, right? Now that I'm willing to, why are you refusing me?"
"Who do you think you are? Do you think everyone will wait for you right where they are and beg for you to return as long as you make a slight change?
"Stephanie laughed, but her words were cold and sharp.
Stephanie wouldn't have been so angry if Paul had been willing to work toward this from the beginning, even if they couldn't make their relationship public.
However, he did none of that in the beginning. He only said that he wouldn't make their relationship public and wouldn't marry her because he thought she wasn't good enough for him.
Now that Stephanie had gotten away from him, his possessiveness began to take over, and he wanted her back.
Who was he kidding? Stephanie wasn't someone who would be at his beck and call.
As her words were too harsh, Paul got so angry that he forgot his initial intention of working out a compromise with her.
"You think too highly of yourself. Do you think you can escape from me just because you're under Jenny's protection?" If Paul wanted someone, no one could stop him-not even the Ten Elites would make him back down.
As soon as he said that, Stephanie knew he was going to make a move on her again. Her expression became gloomy instantly. "Paul, why do you have to be like this? Can't we just part ways nicely?"
"No! It's up to me whether we part ways or not." He stared at Stephanie brazenly.
"You just have to make things difficult, huh?" Stephanie didn't want to back down from him anymore. She had seen through this vile man. Even if she relented today, he wouldn’t let her go.
In that case, there was no need to compromise.
She stood up, her eyes cold as she looked at Paul. There wasn't a hint of love left in them as she glared daggers at him. "In that case, I'll play with you till the end."
With that, Stephanie left, and Paul didn't go after her. He sat in his seat, sipping tea leisurely, looking at ease. But he soon burst into a rage and flipped over the plates and cutlery on the table.
He stared in the direction Stephanie had left, his gaze dark and sinister." You'll never get away from me, not in this life."
On Sunday, James and Jolene's engagement banquet was held.
Both the Walters and the Windsors were among the Ten Elites of Bardoff City, so a marriage between these two prominent families naturally attracted countless people. It was a grand and lavish scene that hadn't been seen in Bardoff City for many years.
At the entrance of the Bardoff International Hotel, the Walters and the Windsors each stood on either side to welcome the guests.
Though people kept coming over to Graham to congratulate him, deep inside, he felt an array of emotions that he couldn't quite put into words. He looked at James, who was standing across from him. From the beginning of the banquet until then, he remained distant and unfriendly, his attitude toward Graham a far cry from before.
Although they didn't intend to cancel their collaboration, Graham knew in his heart that after it ended, their relationship might become just as strained as the relationship between the Walters and Glasses.
Graham had no one to blame but himself because it was his own selfishness that led to this.
To Be Yours Again by Taylor Chapter 679-You've Gotten Gutsy Looking at the Walter family side, Graham noticed that Jolene was probably the happiest. She was in a red dress and stood amicably at the door, greeting guests with a much better attitude than usual. Graham thought that he'd done everything he could for this daughter.
Jenny came with Stephanie, but she didn't stand with the Walters to greet guests like Graham and the others. Instead, she attended the banquet like a guest.
"James." Jenny walked over to greet James. She could see that he was upset.
Upon hearing her voice, James' finally snapped out of his dazed condition and focused his eyes on her. ‘Jenny, you're here."
Jenny nodded. Seeing James in such a state, she was significantly affected.
She wanted to comfort him but knew it wouldn't help at this time and would only upset him kore.
"Go in and have a seat," James said, leading Jenny into the banquet hall.
Jolene was unhappy upon seeing that. She quickly walked over and said, "
Jenny, why did you arrive so late?"
Jenny looked at her coldly and unsmilingly.
"James, I'll take my sister inside." Jolene reached to grab Jenny's hand to steer her away from James.
James looked at her and sneered apathetically. "As you wish."
Perhaps Jolene thought that marrying him was a good thing right now.
After the engagement, James silently swore that he would make her wish she was dead.
Jenny walked into the banquet hall, trailing behind Jolene.
"James and I are getting engaged today. If you dare to cause any trouble, I won't let you off the hook, and neither will Dad," Jolene warned her as they made their way to their seats.
Jenny gave her a sideways glance. "What're you afraid of? Could it be that you came to realize you can't hold on to things that are stolen? Are you worried that James will leave you anytime?"
"I'm not afraid of anything!" Jolene retorted in a headstrong manner. "All the famous and affluent families in Bardoff City are here today. If you don't care about the Walters and Windsors' reputation, do whatever you want."
Jenny didn't say anything. In fact, Jolene was worrying over nothing. Even if Jenny had no regard for the Walters, she couldn't offend the Windsors and had to respect James' choice. Since he had chosen to marry Jolene, it showed that family honor was more important than anything else in his heart. If she caused trouble, James probably wouldn't be happy.
Not bothered to continue talking to Jenny, Jolene walked out and returned to the door to greet more guests.
The banquet hall was packed, so Jenny led Stephanie to a quiet corner to avoid the crowd.
"Steph, you don't seem very happy today," Jenny stated, looking at Stephanie with a puzzled expression as she handed her a drink.
Stephanie hadn't said a word all the way to the hotel, and Jenny didn't know what was on her mind.
"It's nothing. I'm just not used to this kind of occasion," Stephanie replied. In Parrington, the Walkers were considered a rich family, but they were nothing when compared to the prominent families in Bardoff City.
Helplessly, Jenny said, "Steph, it's been a while since we last met. You've gotten gutsy, huh? You even dare to lie to me now."
"Jenny, I…"
"I know you're worried about Paul. You're afraid he'll come back to cause trouble again, aren't you?" Jenny made a guess what was on Stephanie's mind without her having to say anything.
Stephanie didn't deny it; she was indeed worried about this matter.
Jenny patted her shoulder and said, "Don't worry. With me around, Paul won't stand a chance."
They were in Bardoff City, after all. As long as they were here, the Walters could still protect Stephanie and her family.

"I heard that Alec merged his company with Paul's. What if he takes over the Fausts? Won't he be on Paul's side after he achieves that?" Stephanie expressed her concerns.
If it were just Paul himself, Stephanie wouldn't be too worried. No matter what, Paul was not a match for Jenny now. But he had friends-friends who were powerful and shouldn't be underestimated.
She knew a little about the situation between Alec and Jenny. Since the two of them were completely unrelated now, Alec would definitely not lend her a hand.
Stephanie's words weighed on Jenny, and she said nothing for some time.
Finally, she spoke up, "Don't worry. Even if Alec helps him, we won't necessarily lose. Although the Fausts are currently the leading family among the Ten Elites, it doesn't mean it'll always stay that way."
Besides, Jenny could seek help from others. She could turn to other families like the Windsors. As long as she proposed an offer that was attractive enough, no one would refuse.
Stephanie nodded, but her worries did not decrease much. She understood that if it really came to that kind of situation, Jenny would do everything to help her.
But did she want to let her friend do everything for her?
As they were talking, a figure appeared before them.
"Miss Walter, it's been a while," Brandon greeted with a smile.
Jenny was surprised to see him. She thought Brandon wouldn't attend the banquet. After all, he was the joke of the entire Bardoff City now. Although the Walters paid a heavy price to quell their anger, the Britts still suffered a huge loss.
With a nod, Jenny acknowledged his presence. "Mr. Britt, you're quite bold to still show up here today."
"All things considered, today was originally my engagement ceremony with Jolene. Of course, I had to come and take a look," he replied without a hint of sadness or anger on his face.
Upon hearing his words, Jenny felt curious. She stared at him briefly before asking, "You don't seem very sad. I thought you loved Jolene."
If he didn't love her, he wouldn't have agreed to her conditions so easily back then.
"Love isn't important forthose in our position." Brandon laughed, appearing carefree.
Jenny was confused and couldn't understand Brandon's attitude toward the situation. But one thing she was sure of was that Brandon probably didn't like Jolene much. There might have been other reasons which led him to agree to marry her. Jenny thought it was most likely because Jolene was a Walter, and on top of that, her mother was from the Glass family.
"Wise words, Mr. Britt." Jenny didn't plan to continue talking to him, as they were only acquaintances at best. After exchanging a few casual pleasantries, they were almost done with the conversation.
However, Brandon didn't intend to leave Jenny alone. He walked over and sat next to her. "Miss Walter, we've already met several times. Why don't we be friends?"
Jenny raised her eyebrows as her gaze landed squarely on Brandon. "Mr. Britt, stop beating around the bush. Don't take me for a fool."
Friends? Brandon wasn't short of friends.
"You're a straightforward one, Miss Walter." Brandon wasn't ashamed that Jenny called his bluff. On the contrary, he admitted unflinchingly, "I think you're nice, so I would like for you to give me a chance."
Jenny and Stephanie were both rendered speechless. They struggled to comprehend how Brandon was audacious enough to suggest such a thing.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Britt, but I'm not interested in you." Jenny rejected him politely, even though she felt quite speechless deep inside.
Did Brandon think since he couldn't marry Jolene, he could turn to her instead?
What did he take her for? It was funny how naive he was.
