Ch. 581..590
To Be Yours Again by Taylor Chapter 581-Jenny Is Mine The pen in Paul's grip snapped in half. He instantly called his guards." Where is she?"
"Ms. Walker is in the washroom with Miss Walter, sir," the bodyguard replied, oblivious to what was happening.
Paul's temple throbbed. "How long has that been?"
The guard's heart fell with the sudden realization. "At least ten minutes, sir."
"Go find her, you piece of shit!' Paul roared, then stormed off from his desk and out the door. "Have all eyes on the airport shuttle buses," he ordered his men. ’If any of you let Stephanie get away, I will make your life a living hell!"
He had already guessed there was a hidden agenda behind Jenny visiting Stephanie.
Meanwhile, the two women were still on the road. Jenny kept glancing at her watch while telling the driver to speed up. The moment Paul discovered the Walkers had left Parrington, he would immediately know of Stephanie's escape.
That was why they needed to hurry at all costs. Seeing how worried she was, even Stephanie started to sweat.
Luckily, they soon reached the airport. They made it all the way to the boarding area of their private plane, and Jenny finally heaved a sigh of relief; Paul wouldn't be able to do anything anymore once they got on the plane.
She was about to board the plane when she noticed Stephanie had stopped in her tracks, looking at the gate behind her. Even though Stephanie stayed silent, Jenny could still read what was on her mind." You're waiting for Paul?" she asked, shocked.
"Jenny, I…’ The next second, a flurry of men surrounded the both of them, Paul at the lead.
His face was dark with anger. "Come here," he said when he saw Stephanie. He kept his tone as neutral as possible and his temper in check.
"Why? Just let me leave,” Stephanie replied.
"Leave? Where to?" Paul sneered. "You're mine in life or in death, Stephanie.
You're never gonna fucking leave me.' He was never going to let her go from this point forward. Once he got her back, he'd make sure she never stepped out of his house. He then glared at Jenny. "You really think I can't do anything to you now that you have the Walter family's backing?"
"Yes. What can you do, really?" Jenny scoffed. She was still confident in being able to leave with Stephanie though they were surrounded.
Paul's face turned ugly. He yelled at a guard beside him, "Bring them both back!” He would see for himself just how powerful the Walter family was.
Before Paul's men could move, Alec appeared and shielded Jenny, standing with his back before her. ’Jenny is mine, Paul."
"Yours?" Paul's brows furrowed, then, as if realizing something, he asked," So you knew she was going to take Stephanie away today?"
Alec said nothing, though his silence spoke volumes.
"Alec Faust!’ Paul yelled. "You bastard! You call yourself a friend?" He never expected to be betrayed by one of his closest friends.
"There's no need to point fingers. You're the man-child who won't own up to his mistakes!’ Jenny scoffed, rolling her eyes.
"My mistakes? Aren’t you the one who thought you could take Stephanie away just because you think you're her friend? Did you even ask her if she needed help?" Paul snapped, now turning to Stephanie.
To Be Yours Again by Taylor Chapter 582-You Really Think You're Better?
Paul's tone oozed with confidence, believing Stephanie wanted to stay of her own volition and only left because of Jenny's meddling.
Jenny didn't share the same thought. "Steph, do you still want to stay with him?"
she asked.
If the answer was yes, she'd leave the two alone right away.
Stephanie glanced at Jenny, then at Paul, and sighed, "No."
Jenny smiled while Paul flew into a fit of rage. "Think twice before you answer that question, Stephanie Walker!"
Why wouldn't she want to stay? Hadn't they had such a good time together? He had thought she'd given up entirely on leaving him.
"I have Paul. Countless times. I don't want to stay anymore, Paul. I'm a person, not an object. I know what I want." As much as she liked Paul, she wasn't going to stay with him, not when he treated her that way.
Paul's hands clenched into fists. "Alright…al-fucking-right then!"
"Well? Steph doesn't want to stay. So, are you going to let us go or force us to stay?" Jenny sneered. She had already guessed the answer.
"You're not leaving unless I say so, Stephanie Walker." She was going to stay whether she liked it or not!
Paul was an extremely stubborn man. It was tolerable with Stephanie acquiescing, but way worse if she didn't.
Alec sighed and went up to his friend. "Don't do this, Paul. If you truly like her, then cherish her as a person. You'll only push her away if you force her against her will."
"Shut the hell up!" Paul roared. "I'll do whatever I want, and you have no right to say otherwise!"
He wasn't in the mood to deal with Alec right now. He had to deal with Stephanie first.
Alec gritted his teeth and said, "You won't touch even an inch of her hair with me here today, Paul."
With that, the two men glared at one another, neither backing down.
Seeing this, Jenny texted Graham to send reinforcements. Though their winning chance was high with Alec there, she still preferred having Graham's men around so the two men's friendship wouldn't be put at large risk.
Graham and his men soon arrived. One look and one could easily tell his men were highly trained professionals. Yes, they were outnumbered by Paul's men, but in terms of combat skill, Paul was on the losing side.
"You will not keep us here today, Paul Wagner," Jenny said slowly.
Paul had never met Graham Walter, though he had seen the man on television.
His expression turned menacing. "You're thoroughly prepared, aren't you?"
Alec was already tough to defeat; now, with Graham's men in the picture, there was no way he would walk out victorious.
"Of course," Jenny grinned, taking it as a compliment.
Stephanie was unhappy with the current stalemate. "I don't want to be at odds with you like this, Paul," she said. "But I just hate the way you treat me. That's why I hope you can use this chance to learn how to respect someone else, respect your partner."
Paul only sneered, "What's with all the sagely advice, hm? Do you really think you're better than me? I really thought you liked me, with how you act like you're in love and devoted to me. Turns out you've been hiding your true colors all this time."
His heart ached like never before, burning with sadness, despair, and rage.
Stephanie's decision to leave that day made him realize how much of a liar she was. She had never wanted to be with him from the start.
To Be Yours Again by Taylor Chapter 583-Get Out of My Sight!
As angry as Paul was, he still found himself somewhat scared of what Stephanie would say next.
The woman gazed at him for a moment before sighing. 'I can't change what you think, and so be it."
Paul nearly lunged at her.
"Alright then!" He gritted out, knowing full well he wouldn't be able to keep Stephanie by his side anymore. With a sneer, he said, "You really think you can rest easy in Bardoff City? I've told you once, and I'll tell you again; I will always find a way to bring you back to my side, Stephanie Walker. No matter where you run off to.’ Stephanie frowned. "Paul-"
"Get out of my sight!" he yelled. The circle of men around them broke, leaving a clear path to board the plane once again.
Jenny and Stephanie were shocked, but after a moment's delay, Jenny tugged at her friend's arm and headed for the plane. "Let's go."
Once they boarded, Graham ordered the pilot to take off, but not before taking a long look at Paul Wagner. He was memorizing his face because he knew this young man now harbored a deep hatred for Jenny and might hurt her. So, he had to watch out for her from now on.
After the plane took off, Paul ordered his men to leave, and he stood where he was, staring at the aircraft until it disappeared into the clouds.
"She's just in Bardoff City. "You can visit her whenever you want to,’ Alec said, adding silently in his head, "You just can't chain her to your side again like an animal." He had never approved of Paul's methods.
Seeing that Alec was still there, Paul's face fell. "What the hell are you still doing here? Waiting for me to beat you up?"
Alec scoffed, "You really want to try?" He wasn't afraid of him whatsoever. Paul had never been his match in single combat.
Paul glared at him, then left.
Alec followed after him. "Stephanie is quite similar to Jenny, actually. As quiet and gentle as she seems, she has her own thoughts and opinions. She knows what she wants and desires. I can tell she likes you, but she definitely doesn't like the idea of being kept by your side like some pet all the time. Plus, you said you'd never marry her. What sort of woman would accept that? Who would accept a lifetime of whatever weird entanglement this is?"
Alec was helping Paul look at things differently because he truly hoped the man could be better. Otherwise, he'd never be able to be with Stephanie.
Paul frowned. "I don't care what she thinks."
All he knew was that Stephanie couldn't leave him without his say. He would find a way to bring her back, even from Bardoff City, if it was the last thing he did.
Alec sighed, knowing Paul was being stubborn again. "Keep this up, and Stephanie will never want to be with you. You'll be the reason for your demise, I tell you."
"Hey!" Paul yelled, tossing a fist at his friend. Alec swiftly dodged it as if he had already anticipated it.
The two men quickly got into a fight, neither one backing down. They only stopped once they had some bruises and cuts to heal from. It wasn't like they wanted an actual fight-they just needed an outlet for their emotions. Even Alec needed it sometimes.
He gave his friend a bottle of water. "Feeling better?"
Paul took a long chug and huffed, "Aren't you worried you'll lose Jenny once she's in Bardoff City?"
To Be Yours Again by Taylor Chapter 584-What's the Point of Being Scared?
Alec paused at the question. After a moment's consideration, he said, " What's the point of being scared? It's not like I can hold her back from her path. All I can do is give it my all and hope I can keep up with her."
He knew just how much he needed to accomplish in order to stay on equal footing with Jenny. It would take months, at least, for the Faust Group to be on par with the Walters. Giving up now would only mean growing further and further away from her.
"Seems like you really love her," Paul huffed. Did he really think so, or was that his way of mocking Alec?
Alec nodded. "What about you? Don't you love Stephanie?"
Paul's smile instantly disappeared. He seemed to hate the question. ’Love? How could I ever love someone as heartless as her?"
He was never going to love her, not in this life or the next.
Alec shook his head. Paul really cared more about his ego than himself.
"Whatever, man. As long as you don't regret what you've done." There was no use in saying too much as Paul wouldn't listen anyway.
Changing topics, Paul asked, "So you're moving your headquarters to Bardoff City, right? I won't see you around as often anymore, I take it."
"Mhm, and not just for Jenny. The company needs a new market to expand into," Alec said. He then asked Paul, 'What about you? Want to go there with me?"
Paul stayed quiet for a good minute. Alec knew his friend was actually taking that into consideration.
"Nah. I'd have to start from scratch in Bardoff City. I bet it'll take longer than how long it took me to mark my place here," Paul sighed. He really didn't want to fight so hard anymore.
Alec patted his back. "Better to do so while we're young."
"You have a point." Paul nodded. Whether or not he really agreed was unknown, though.
As much as it might seem like Alec had convinced him, he actually did want to go to Bardoff City of his own volition. There was no other way to get Stephanie back.
Meanwhile, Jenny realized Stephanie hadn't been the happiest since they left on the plane. Her friend looked out the window from time to time as if missing Paul.
Jenny sighed. Good thing she had gotten Stephanie away in time before Paul sunk his claws into her. "What's on your mind, Steph?" she asked.
Stephanie shook her head. "It's nothing. I just felt nostalgic all of a sudden, leaving the place I grew up in."
Jenny didn't call her out. "It's not that far. At most, a flight will take two hours.
You can come back whenever you want."
Stephanie nodded, but she knew there was no chance of her ever returning with Paul still on her tail.
"About Paul…" Jenny then said. "It's not that I don't want you two to be together.
I just hope he can give you the respect you deserve."
"I know." Stephanie nodded. "I feel the same way you do, really. If he could just realize and learn from his mistakes, I wouldn't hesitate to call him my boyfriend."
She truly adored Paul. But what good was that when he would never respect her as an individual or come to love her? Heck, he even said he'd never marry her.
Stephanie would rather never see Paul again than be leashed at his side like some mutt.
To Be Yours Again by Taylor Chapter 585-What Are Your Plans?
Jenny sighed in relief to see her friend still clear of mind. She had been really worried that Stephanie might insist on continuing to stick by Paul's side despite being treated like a pet. She couldn't stop Stephanie then-it would be her own choice. Jenny would be no different from Paul if she forced her friend. So really it was fortunate for Stephanie that she still had her wits about.
They soon landed in Bardoff City. The two women had just left the airport gates when Charles Walker and his wife rushed to greet their daughter." Stephanie!"
they cried.
With tears in her eyes, Stephanie dove into their arms. ’Mom! Dad!"
Jenny felt great seeing the family reunite. She turned to Graham and thanked him for all his help.
"I'm your father, Jenny. Don't need to be so courteous." Graham didn't like how her attitude seemed to put some distance between them.
Jenny smiled but said nothing. Father or not, he wasn't obliged to help her, so she truly was grateful he had.
"Why don't you head home first? I'm sure you have a lot on your plate now after leaving for a week." She didn't want to hold up his time longer than necessary.
Graham nodded. He was about to leave when he asked, "Will you be home for lunch?"
"Probably not.’ She'd likely be invited for lunch with the Walkers. Plus, she really didn't want to deal with Rowena and Jolene.
Graham nodded. Jenny was a grown woman now and could think for herself.
"Come by for dinner tonight, then."
Jenny agreed. After he left, she waited until the Walkers had finished their exchange before walking over. "Why don't you guys go back first?" she suggested, noticing a small crowd had stopped to peek at what was going on.
Stephanie's mother nodded. "Yes, that's best, I believe. Come with us, Jenny. I'll make you lunch.’ The couple knew that Jenny was to thank for their daughter's safe return.
"Alright." Jenny had planned to in the first place.
The four of them got into the same car and left for the Walkers' new home. It was smaller than their villa in Parrington, located in a small town, but it was the best they could afford right now, with Walker Inc still grasping at straws in the midst of their residence change. Estate prices were higher in Bardoff City, too.
Charles and his wife went to the kitchen to cook while Jenny helped Stephanie with her things. Still, it wasn't much. Her mother had prepared most of what she needed.
"It's good to be home." Stephanie sighed, relaxing on her bed. Having nothing to worry about those days in Paul's villa had been stress-free, but she had never been happier now to be back home, new house or not.
Maybe it was just the comforts of home that nothing could compare to.
"Don't worry. Paul won't be able to get his hands on you for some time." Jenny lay down beside her. "What are your plans for now?"
"Helping Mom and Dad with the company, of course. We gotta catch up with you.' Stephanie beamed. She had decided to really devote herself to her career.
As for romance, she wasn't in a rush.
Jenny agreed with her. She knew that was the best cause of action right nowstrengthening the Walkers so neither Paul nor anyone else could ever threaten them again.
To Be Yours Again by Taylor Chapter 586-Ungrateful Jenny was happy for Stephanie. "Do your best then. We'll see how we fare."
They chatted leisurely for a while before Stephanie's mother called them to come out for lunch. Jenny joined them and went to the office right after.
When she reached the building, she realized there were considerably more employees than before. It was a telltale of further imposed management systems, which pleased Jenny to no end. Alex and Jade were a power duo, far more effective than she was.
"Jade," Jenny called after knocking on the door.
"You're back." Jade smiled, sitting down with her on the lounge.
Jenny grinned. "I remember someone said they didn't have what it takes to manage a company as big as this. I wonder where they are now."
"It's not me." Jade shrugged. "You have to thank Alfred, really. I'm still just in charge of the design team, nothing else."
She hadn't had a hand in the management, trusting Alex to take care of everything. She would place her trust in whoever Jenny trusted, after all.
Jenny was surprised to hear that.
"Though he might not have had the best intentions at first, nor can I say for certain he doesn't now, one thing's for sure, he can definitely put in the work,"
Jade said.
Jenny agreed. It was why she tried her best to convince Alfred to stay and work hard for himself, to let go of his hatred and his attachment to Mortimer Faust.
It looked like it had worked.
Jade then reported the ongoings from the design department, which Jenny didn't question as much. After all, Jade was far more professional at this than her.
She was about to look for Alfred when Jade told him he hadn't come in for work.
Jenny didn't mind. As long as Alfred made sure things continued running, he could do whatever he wanted outside the office.
Alfred, on the other hand, had rented a flat near Jeneration Group. He wasn't that well-off, even if he was formally appointed as the company's vice president.
His monthly salary was just enough to get him this place to himself. It was small, but he didn't mind.
What he minded was the man standing at his doorstep right now. "What are you doing here?"
"What am I doing here?" Mortimer huffed, cheeks reddening. "I'm your father.
Why can't I be here?"
He felt like he'd get a heart attack one day, triggered by his sons. Why did it seem like Alfred was following in Alec's footsteps of being obstinate?
Alfred frowned, equally annoyed. "Why aren't you in Parrington? Arent you living at the Old Mansion?"
"I got kicked out of the house because of that brat Alec," Mortimer said, gritting his teeth. "All because of you."
If he had known things would come to this, he'd have strangled Alec to death as a baby. That way, he'd still have the family inheritance and live comfortably in Parrington.
Alfred scoffed, "What do you mean it was because of me? I never asked you to do anything to him."
He seemed to have heeded Jenny's words, so now he didn't hold such a big grudge against Alec nor salivate after the Faust Group. As Jenny put it, better to strive and set up his own company than waste his time stealing someone else's.
"You ungrateful brat, I wouldn't have done that to him if I didn't want you to take over Faust Group!" Mortimer yelled, cursing whatever he had done in his past life for all the suffering he had experienced through his sons today
To Be Yours Again by Taylor Chapter 587-Downhill "For me? You sure it's not for yourself?" Alfred sneered. "You claim to do this for my benefit, but really, you’re just upset because you won nothing out of this pointless struggle."
He wasn't an idiot. Years of living with Mortimer Faust had let him see the true ugliness the man possessed. Even if Alec really did die, the Faust Group would never belong to Alfred. Not until a century later when Mortimer died, at least.
Mortimer's face immediately fell. "What the hell do you mean?’ "Oh, nothing at all, just that I hope you don’t use me as an excuse for every power struggle you have in the future." Alfred rolled his eyes. "I'm not interested in the Faust Group anymore."
"Not interested?" Mortimer stared at him in disbelief.
"Yeah. I'd rather spend the time trying to steal it from Alec on managing my own business. If Alec Faust can have his Faust Group, why can't I have mine?' Alfred was sure he was just as capable as Alec.
Mortimer gaped in shock, then, upon realizing Alfred wasn't joking around, demanded, "Are you serious about this?’ Alfred nodded.
"You want to start a business empire like the Faust Group from scratch, and with what, huh? What do you have in hand to even try?" Mortimer wasn't trying to burst his bubble. He just thought his son wasn't being realistic.
Alfred was unperturbed by Mortimer's questioning. "That's something you don't need to worry about."
"Wake up, Alfred Faust! You could never accomplish this!’ Mortimer yelled.
"I am wide awake. That's why I'm not interested in stealing what belongs to someone else.’ Neither their company nor their women.
Mortimer raised his hand to smack his son when Alfred caught his wrist in a vice grip. "You're not fit to try and 'educate' me yet."
"Not fit? I am your father! I raised you since you were a baby. I gave you more love than I ever gave Alec!" Mortimer roared, pissed.
Alfred remained unmoved. "What love? When did you ever love me? You don't think you were a good father just because you abandoned your family to come and be with my mother, do you? You were a terrible parent and husband, always blaming her for leaving your own family when you were the one who wasn't responsible enough to deal with your own mistakes."
Since Alfred could remember, Mortimer had never been a good father to him nor shown him much love. All he remembered was that the man often got into fights with his mother. Each time, her mother lost, growing speechless whenever Mortimer blamed his leaving his first marriage and his family inheritance on her.
Alfred's mother had left her husband and children too, but she never raised that in their arguments. Maybe she thought Mortimer was the greater victim between the two, but Alfred had never felt the same. Heck, he could even see why Alec despised Mortimer Faust. Still, that didn't mean Alfred would ever side with Alec.
Mortimer was left glaring speechlessly at his son's words. He never expected his life to come to this. Neither the son he abandoned nor the son he chose wanted him. In fact, both despised him to the core.
He huffed a weak laugh, feeling like he had played himself the fool.
"One mistake, and everything just goes downhill," he sighed to himself, then left.
To Be Yours Again by Taylor Chapter 588-Diligence Jenny made it back to Walter Castle just in time for dinner. Graham had long reached home, sitting in the living room with Rowena and Jolene.
They were chatting and laughing when Jenny went up to them.
"Hey, Dad." Jenny greeted Graham.
The man looked at her warmly. "You're back. Let's have dinner then."
He had Jenny sit by his side, and just like that, Jolene was instantly out of the picture. The young woman fumed silently.
How could her father be so biased? They were both equally his daughters. Still, she kept her unhappiness to herself. "Looks like this trip was worth it, Dad. You seem like you've bonded nicely with Jenny."
After everything that had happened, Jolene knew all she could do now was to be patient.
Graham agreed. He did grow closer to Jenny during the course of the trip.
Meanwhile, Jenny shot Jolene a curious look. Her half-sister seemed to have learned her lesson.
The family sat at the dining table, their food swiftly served. Graham cleared his throat. "Jenny, what do you think about coming to work at the company? The training could do you some good."
He had just come up with the idea. After all, it was best Walter Inc got used to Jenny before he passed the mantle on. Graham could also make sure Jenny was safe while under his care.
Jenny frowned at the suggestion. She wasn't even interested in managing her own company, so there was no way she'd be interested in Walter Inc.
"I know you have no inclination toward it, but the business will be in your name one day. It's better to have you familiar with the world now, no?” Graham continued, not bothering to hide the truth from Rowena or Jolene. Yes, the business would be given to Jenny and only to her.
Jenny was about to refuse when her father added, "I'm not asking you to stay at the office every weekday. Just stick around for the basics. Once you have the hang of things, I won't stop you if you wanna explore other avenues."
Graham would deal with whatever came next when it happened. For now, he'd focus on letting Jenny familiarize herself with the business. She just might grow an interest in the business over time.
"Alright." Jenny relented in the end. It wouldn't be right to reject her father after he had just helped her. Plus, she'd never hear the end of it if she declined the offer. It wasn't like she'd stay at Walter Inc for long anyway.
Graham beamed. "Great! I'll have them arrange something for you-"
"If I'm learning the ropes, I might as well start from the bottom," Jenny cut him off. "No one will respect me if you put me in a high position from the start."
Graham stared at her in surprise. "You…really want to start from the bottom?"
"Mhm."
"Very well then!" Graham grinned happily. "Only my daughter would be so diligent!"
That was definitely the best step. Having the company employees see her climb her way up through hard work and dedication would ensure their support when she took over one day.
Meanwhile, Jenny didn't have such plans. To her, learning from the bottom up was best to hammer in the basics. It would help her manage her own business too. She had to prepare for the worst somehow, even if Jeneration Group was running swimmingly with Alfred and Jade at the wheel.
To Be Yours Again by Taylor Chapter 589-What Are You Saying?
Rowena and Jolene's expressions had long turned ugly.
"Dad, I wanna work in the company too," Jolene said hastily. It hadn't concerned her before, but now she had to do something. What if Jenny won over everyone's support at the company?
Graham looked at Jolene skeptically. "I thought you said no the last time I asked?"
"1-1 didn’t know any better then," Jolene stammered. 'But I do now. I want to help you with the family business like Jenny.' Her genuine tone touched Graham’s heart. 'I'm glad to hear that. You've grown, Jo.’ He was then about to permit it when Jenny said, "I don't think that's necessary."
"What are you saying, Jenny? Are you looking down on me?' Jolene fumed.
Jenny's interception had interrupted her father right before he could give his permission.
Jenny continued kindly, "I don't see why you need to struggle as I do. Why don't you find a nice man to settle down with?"
Remembering that they had this conversation prior, Graham nodded too." Has anyone caught your eye lately, Jo?"
Jolene instantly flushed red, a certain Windsor's face appearing in mind.
Graham immediately understood what was going on. "Which family does he come from? I'll help you two out."
"Dad-" Jolene huffed lightly, feeling embarrassed.
"Jolene is still young. If Jenny hasn't married yet, she shouldn't be in a rush to either," Rowena cut in, stopping her daughter from continuing. She knew who the apple of Jolene's eye was, but they would have no hold over the Walter family if she married him right now.
Jolene shot her mother a look only to find her glaring at her. So, she quietly shut her mouth, still confused as to why her mother wouldn't let her speak.
Graham gazed at both women. "You don't need to worry about Jenny. A fine woman like her is sure to garner plenty of suitors. It's Jo you should worry about.
Find a good match for her soon."
Rowena's face tinged with the slightest red. It was obvious Graham meant for Jenny to inherit the family business while Jolene would be left marrying off into another family. While this pissed her off, she remained polite and didn't let it show. "I will. But don't you think she should train in the company before that? It'll only do her good, and people will respect her when she marries."
"Very well." Graham shrugged, finding reasonable sense in that. It wouldn't do well for the family if Jolene was laughed at for being uneducated in this regard.
After finishing his meal, he went to his study, leaving the three women around the table.
Rowena's face immediately turned stormy as she glared at Jenny. 'That was your idea, wasn't it? You want Jolene to marry as soon as possible so you can have the company all to yourself, don't you?' She was confident it was Jenny's idea since Graham had never once mentioned it before Jenny's arrival. He never even cared.
"It is. What are you going to do about it?" Jenny shrugged. She couldn't wait for Rowena to show her true colors so she could finally get some evidence of their evil acts.
To Be Yours Again by Taylor Chapter 590-You Really Think I'm Afraid?
"Jenny Walter!" Rowena fumed, unable to do anything with Graham looking after her.
Jenny grinned. "Yes? Can't wait to do away with me, can you? C'mon then, you really think I'm afraid?"
Rowena gnashed her teeth. "Alright. You'll see!"
With that final hiss, she dragged Jolene back to their rooms.
Jenny felt somewhat disappointed being left unharmed. If Rowena could've done something violent to her, she might've been able to get Graham to take action. Unfortunately, she was still cunning and knew she couldn't touch Jenny under the man's watch.
"Why didn't you let me talk, Mom? I could've told Dad who I liked!" Jolene whined in her room.
If she had told her father, there was a high chance he would've helped the two of them grow closer. Jolene might even end up marrying James— something she had dreamed of for so long.
Rowena sighed and asked, "Have you ever wondered what would happen to your claim to this family if you married someone else?"
Jolene pouted. "So what? The Walters cant compare to the Windsors."
The Windsors were still more powerful than the Walters. Plus, Jolene wouldn't be losing much. James was an incredibly attractive man, after all.
Rowena massaged her temple. "The Windsors? You really think James Windsor wants to marry you?" She was certain that it was just a silly dream, nothing more.
Jolene frowned. "If it weren't for Jenny seducing him, he wouldn't be this cold to me!"
"Even you know he doesn't care." Rowena gazed hopelessly at her daughter.
"Your father wouldn't help arrange anything with the Windsors even if you told him because he knows your worth, and this matchmaking is not worth it."
There was no way a man as keen as Graham would ever do something to embarrass his family.
Jolene crossed her arms and whined, "So you're saying I don't deserve a good man like James."
"You need to be reasonable, Jo. It wasn't difficult for you to find a good match when you were still the only child. But that's not the case anymore," Rowena said solemnly. "Even a blind man can see that your father dotes on Jenny more, making her the most likely heir to the family. There’s very little chance of you winning against her in this situation."
"How could a divorced woman compare to me?" Jolene continued fuming.
"You really think people will still care about that status once she takes over the family?" Rowena asked. Humans had a fickle nature, but they were predictable.
Almost everyone would cave in front of wealth and power.
Jolene paled, suddenly realizing just how big a change Jenny had brought into her life. She had imagined she'd lose her father's favor, at most, not all this.
"What do I do, Mom?" She tugged on her mother's sleeve. "Do I just marry?"
She only wanted James Windsor, no one else.
"Don't panic. Just do as I say. Focus on working at Walter Inc for now. Whatever Jenny can accomplish, you can do better. Don't forget, the Glass family has your back too."
At least in that regard, Jenny would never win against Jolene.
