To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 1021-Are You Feeling Unwell?

Jenny learned from the internet that Alec and Blake were keeping in contact with each other. She saw the photos published by the paparazzi. There were even rumors saying that they had already gotten back together and were going to be engaged.

Jenny put her phone away. She didn't believe the rumors. She knew Alec's personality well. If he said he wasn't interested in Blake, then he truly wasn't interested. They were together before only as a pretense, much less getting back together now. However, she still felt uncomfortable whenever they met.

On the other hand, she had moved in to live with Evan. She had no right to control who Alec met. That would be selfish.

She no longer pondered the matter and buried herself in her patients' records, forgetting everything else.

When Stephanie arrived at the hospital, Jenny was still on her shift. Jenny was surprised by her sudden appearance. "Why are you here? Are you sick?"

"I'm great. I came here looking for you." Stephanie was a little upset. ’Why didn't you tell me about such a huge thing?" If it weren't for Paul calling her and telling her everything, she wouldn't have known that something had happened to Jenny.

"How could it be huge? Look, I’m more than fine." Jenny didn't tell Stephanie about it because she didn't want her to worry. Besides, some things were beyond her control. If Jenny told Stephanie about it, she’d just be worrying for nothing.

Stephanie sat across from her and sighed. "I've been so caught up with the family business. I keep wanting to step up the business so that I can help you in the future and not have to keep relying on you. But then, after I took over the company, I realized how hard business is. Those clients are so hard to communicate with. They're all amazing people. I really admire Alec for being able to handle Faust Group so well back in Parrington. And now that he's in Bardoff City, he's still able to make waves, unlike me. One tiny company here is making me exhausted to no end."

Her parents had basically handed the company over to her. However, Stephanie was not gifted with business smarts. She had only her hard work to rely on. It caused her to be exhausted. When work got busy, she forgot to even eat, let alone think of Jenny.

Jenny could tell that she was tired. She couldn't help feeling her heart aching.

"Why don't you get someone dependable to rely on?"

Alfred was managing her company, and Graham had someone elected to take care of Walter Inc. She didn't need to worry about anything at all.

"It's so hard to find someone dependable. Even if there was, I wouldn't be able to hire them." Stephanie's company was not like Walter Inc, which was rich enough to hire such a good manager. Her brief complaints only made her more optimistic. "I will keep working hard. I'm sure that good times will come."

She had already put in so much effort. She was not going to give up now.

Then, she looked at Jenny apologetically. "I was just too busy to keep in touch with you, which is why I didn't know about your kidnapping, and I couldn't care for you."

Only Alec and his friends, and some of the Ten Elites, knew about Jenny's kidnapping. After all, they had their sights set on her.

A small company like hers would never have caught wind of Jenny’s happenings. She was only able to see Jenny because they were friends.

"Why does that matter? We've been friends for so many years. Why wouldn't I know about what you're like?" Jenny knew that Stephanie was concerned about her, which was why she didn't want her to worry.

 

To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 1022-Maybe They didn't dwindle on the topic of their friendship for long. There was no need to apologize for anything. What they needed to do was to work hard and then meet each other at the top.

"Let's go. I'll treat you to dinner," Stephanie said, patting her on the shoulder.

Jenny hesitated. She was thinking of Evan. She’d promised to accompany him for dinner every day.

"Are you worried about Evan?" Stephanie had heard about Evan from Paul. As for why she and Paul were still in contact with each other, it was because Paul was like an annoying fly. No matter how often Stephanie swatted him away, he'd find a way to come back to her life. It was truly an exasperating situation.

At first, Stephanie had a good impression of Evan. However, once she heard of the request that he had made to Jenny, she changed her perceptions of him.

"Does he want to control you even on this? Rescuing you doesn't mean taking away your freedom." Stephanie was upset.

Jenny saw that she misunderstood Evan and said, "He's not taking away my freedom. I was the one who said I would eat with him every day."

"I don't care. It was so hard for me to push away my company matters and meet up with you. You must eat with me today." Stephanie was adamant.

Jenny couldn't help smiling. "Don't worry. I won't let your gas money be wasted.

I'll just call and let him know."

Jenny called Evan. As expected, Evan didn’t refuse. "This is your choice, Jenny.

You didn't have to ask me, really. But of course, I'm happy that you're calling. It means that you care about how I feel.’ They hung up. Jenny looked at Stephanie. "Let's go have dinner."

"Alright." Stephanie did not continue talking smack about Evan since he hadn't refused. However, she would still find an opportunity to talk to Jenny about Evan making her stay by his side forever. It just wouldn't do.

Before Jenny could leave the hospital, Alec called to also invite her out for dinner. However, she refused him.

"Thank God it's sisters before misters for you." Stephanie nodded in satisfaction when Jenny hung up on Alec.

Jenny rolled her eyes. "Am I the type to do that?"

"Maybe. Can't tell now," Stephanie said contemplatively.

They got into a car and went to a restaurant they both liked. On the other side of town, Alec was not angry that Jenny had hung up on him. Jenny eating out with Stephanie meant she was not accompanying Evan for dinner, which was good news to him.

The two young women ordered their food in the restaurant. Stephanie didn't beat around the bush and said, "Jenny, you're not seriously planning to stay with Evan for the rest of your life, are you?"

"I haven’t considered it yet," Jenny answered. Forever was too long to think about. She didn't know what would happen in the future. At the very least, she had to stay by Evan's side right now.

Stephanie was upset. "He saved you, and I'm grateful for that. But I think that his request is too much."

If he truly liked Jenny, he would want her to be happy. Why would he want to prevent her from that?

"Don't say that, Stephanie. Evan didn't force me to do it. I was the one who wanted to do it." Jenny shook her head, disagreeing with Stephanie.

Stephanie pouted. She didn't believe it. Paul had told her everything, and it was obviously Evan who suggested it. He just wanted to have Jenny by his side.

However, Stephanie didn't know that as Alec's friend, Paul would naturally say things that favored Alec and put Evan in a bad light.

To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 1023-He's Really Nice "Would you have gone if he hadn't suggested it?" Stephanie rolled her eyes at her. If Jenny really was the one to suggest it, then she was a fool.

Jenny was silent.

If Evan hadn't brought it up, Jenny wouldn't have offered to take care of him.

She still would have been concerned for him, but she wouldn't have gone so far as to move into his house.

"You're still young, Jenny. You have to think about your future," Stephanie sighed. She was worried that Jenny was really going to sacrifice her life for this.

While speaking, the waiter served them their food. Jenny ate, but her mind was elsewhere.

Stephanie asked, ‘ What about you and Alec? I saw you guys getting close to each other before. I thought you were preparing to be with him again."

"I did want to before." Jenny did not hold anything back from Stephanie. She was at a loss as to what to do.

Stephanie was stunned. "Well, since you've decided to be with him, you shouldn't stay by Evan's side taking care of him. What would that be like? No one would be able to accept it."

On top of that, Jenny had moved into Evan's villa. Anyone would think that she was his girlfriend.

"Well, it's because of this that I'm not getting together with him." If it weren't for this incident, and if Alec confessed to her, Jenny felt that she would most likely accept him.

Unfortunately, there were no "ifs" in this world.

"So what? Are you planning to let this go just like that?" Jenny and Alec had gone through thick and thin together. Stephanie saw it very clearly. If Alec knew that Jenny was going to give up so easily, he would faint.

Jenny ate her food, sighing after a moment. "At least that's the way it is for now.

I don't have any other ideas."

"I don't know what to say to you." Stephanie wanted to scold her, but she couldn't. She knew that Jenny was helpless. Jenny didn't want things to be that way, but what choice did she have? Some things just couldn't go the way she planned.

"Let's not talk about this. Eat up. It's so hard for us to meet each other." Jenny brushed it off, not wanting to talk about unhappy things.

Stephanie nodded, saying nothing more.

Jenny thought of Leonard and asked, "How have you and Leonard been lately?

Do you have feelings for him?"

"He’s…" Stephanie was stunned for a bit. Then, she blushed. "He's really nice."

Jenny saw that there were potential sparks between them and immediately asked, "So do you guys get along well?"

"We do. He's a good person." Leonard was her type, and he was a nice man.

There was nothing to complain about. She might have fallen in love if she hadn't met Paul.

But because she'd met Paul, she hesitated to go on new romantic ventures. She didn't dare to start another fire.

"Well? Do you like him?" Jenny asked.

Like him?

Stephanie had thought about the question late at night, but she had never come to a conclusion. "I don't know."

When she was with him, she felt happy. But when she wasn't with him, she wouldn't actively think about him. It was perplexing.

"What about Paul? Do you like him? Or are you not sure?" Jenny asked. She wanted to know who Stephanie liked more.

When Stephanie thought of that man, she frowned on instinct. "I think…that I don't like him anymore."

Stephanie was not too sure before. Back then, although she wanted to escape him, she believed he had feelings for her. However, after arriving in Bardoff City and experiencing so many other things, she quickly saw all the red flags in her relationship with Paul.

That insane love was wrong from the start.

"You don't like him anymore?" Jenny was surprised. She didn't think that Stephanie could be so straightforward.

"Yeah. I don't like him anymore," Stephanie said firmly.

Jenny suddenly found it interesting. She rested her jaw on her hand and asked, "Why are you suddenly so sure?"

"It's actually not sudden at all." Stephanie smiled dryly. ”1 saw him walking with a girl outside the other day. If I still liked him, I would have felt upset, but I didn't.

In fact, I hope he'll be happy with her."

Stephanie sincerely wished for Paul's happiness, just not with her.

It was surprising to see Stephanie dropping Paul like a hot potato. "Does he know about this?' "I told him before, but he didn't seem to believe me." In fact, Stephanie had told Paul that she no longer had feelings for him more than once. However, Paul thought she was still angry and was saying things she didn't mean. She meant them, though. But Paul was the type to lie to himself.

Jenny was overjoyed to hear that. ’Well, since you don't like him anymore, why don't you give Leonard a chance? I think he's a good man."

Jenny had investigated Leonard before learning that he and Stephanie were classmates. She knew his history very well. She thought he was good in every way.

"Jenny, do you know that getting over a bad relationship takes a long time? "

Stephanie smiled bitterly. Although she no longer liked Paul, the hurt he had given her still affected her.

She was afraid. Afraid that the next man would be just as crazy and lock her up.

She hated the feeling of being trapped with nowhere to escape.

Stephanie's words made Jenny's heart ache. She understood what she meant.

'That's alright. We'll take things slowly. We're still young. There's no need to rush.’ "Yeah." Stephanie smiled and nodded. "I was just telling you that, and now it's my turn.’ Jenny laughed.

They were in no hurry to get back home.

For some reason, Jenny didn't feel like returning to Evan's villa. She felt like she couldn't be herself in that place.

"Let's go shopping. I haven't gone in a long time. The clothes I’m wearing now were from last year," Stephanie suggested.

She was too busy even to go shopping.

"Sure. There are only two days left before New Year's, and neither of us noticed." Jenny looked at the crowd a distance away, at the lively atmosphere.

Stephanie was stunned. Goodness, she had forgotten all about it.

Perhaps New Year's wasn't so important to the working class.

"Let's get some new clothes. We have to." Stephanie pulled Jenny toward the closest shopping mall. Stephanie was the type who bought new clothes every year, and this year was not going to be the exception.

"Alright." Jenny nodded. She didn't mind. Maybe it was time to buy Gilbert and Zack some New Year's gifts

Once they were in the shopping mall, Stephanie began clearing the racks.

Although the Walkers were not as wealthy as the Walters, they were still not short of money. Hence, Stephanie could buy anything she wanted without a second thought.

After buying herself a few outfits, she bought some clothes for her parents.

Then, she looked at Jenny. "Is there anything that you like? I'll buy it for you. n "Really?" Jenny smiled. She swept her gaze around the shop but didn't see anything she liked.

"Really. Who are we? I'd give you my whole person if I could." Stephanie raised her eyebrows flirtatiously at Jenny, who suddenly didn't know where to look.

She pushed her away. "I wouldn't want you.’ "Oh, of course. You already have someone in mind, I know." Stephanie teased her. "The new year is already coming, and you and Alec haven't progressed at all. I'm anxious for you."

"Why are you anxious? It has nothing to do with you." Jenny was speechless as she and Stephanie walked into another boutique.

"Of course it does. I'm your best friend. I want you to be happy."

As she spoke, a dress caught her attention. "May I have a look at that dress, please? I'd like to try it on."

The sales assistant was about to take it, but someone else grabbed it first." This dress looks alright. I'll try it on."

The other woman was already walking toward the fitting room. She totally ignored Stephanie.

The sales assistant was embarrassed, but since Stephanie didn't insist on having the dress, she retreated to a corner quietly.

Stephanie frowned, looking in the direction of the fitting room, her pupils constricted. This world was a little too small for her liking.

Jenny could sense that Stephanie was acting strange and asked, "What's wrong? Do you know her?"

"No, but we've met before,’ Stephanie said. She turned to look at Jenny." Didn't I tell you I saw Paul accompanying a woman before? That's her."

"That's her?" Jenny was shocked. She didn't remember a girl like that before.

Perhaps she was the daughter of one of the rich families in Bardoff, which would explain why she was so arrogant.

"Yeah." Stephanie nodded. She was instantly in no mood to shop.

Jenny was suspicious. "Didn't you say that you're over Paul? Why are you reacting like this?"

"I think it's such bad luck that I'm running into her even though Bardoff City is so big." Her good mood was ruined.

She was about to leave, but Jenny pulled her back. "What's the rush? I haven't had a chance to browse yet."

"You…" Stephanie was speechless. What was Jenny doing?

Soon, that woman came out of the fitting room. Jenny glanced at her. She was pretty, but not pretty enough to be Miss Universe.

As if feeling her gaze, the woman looked in Jenny's direction. "What are you looking at? You're gonna turn blind one day!"

Jenny was struck dumb. What a fierce woman. She couldn't argue with her.

"What are you giving attitude for? Who do you think you are?" Stephanie was upset now. She hadn't wanted to talk to her, but she was being rude.

Melanie was stunned to hear Stephanie's retort. She looked at her in bewilderment. "How can you talk to me like that?"

She was the second daughter of the Yews. She’d never been treated like that by anyone her whole life. She was upset. "Do you know who I am? If you make me mad, I'll destroy your existence in Bardoff City!"

Jenny nearly laughed out loud. It'd been a while since she'd met someone so gutsy. "Well, do you know who I am?"

"Who would care about who you are?" Melanie rolled her eyes at her. There certainly have been a lot of clowns popping up in the city since she left years ago.

"You snatched my friend's dress," Jenny said. Stephanie was obviously the first one to get it, but Melanie had taken it away.

Melanie sneered. "Her dress? Has she paid for it yet?

To Be Yours Again By Taylor Chapter 1026-But He Still Likes You "Don't you know what first come, first served means? Or is this how the Yews brought you up?" Jenny looked at her coldly, rage steaming off her skin. Melanie had to reconsider her thoughts.

She knew about the Yews. Was she also one of the Ten Elites?

Although Melanie was arrogant, she was not domineering. She knew what her family’s position was.

After a few moments, she softened her tone. "Sorry. I didn't notice. Your friend can have it if she likes it."

Jenny was surprised. She thought that she would continue being arrogant. She didn't expect her to cave so easily.

Jenny looked at Stephanie. "Do you still like it?"

"No." Stephanie shook her head. Melanie had already tried it on. Even if she hadn't, Stephanie didn't like wearing the same style as someone else.

Jenny was not surprised to hear that. She knew what Stephanie was like."

Alright then. We’ll let her have it."

She looked at Melanie and said, "My friend doesn't like it anymore. You can do whatever you like."

Melanie was exasperated. Why did they go to all that trouble to argue with her?

She thought that Stephanie really liked it or something.

She suppressed the displeasure in her chest and smiled. "I'm Melanie Yews. I just returned to the country, and I'm not familiar with how things are in Bardoff City anymore. Please forgive me if I've insulted you in any way."

Jenny was surprised once more. So this was what setting ego aside looked like.

Melanie was surprising.

"I'm Jenny Walter," Jenny introduced herself. "And this is my friend, Stephanie Walker."

When Melanie heard these two names, she was stunned. "You're Jenny Walter?"

"You seem to know me." Jenny knew from her reaction that although Melanie had just returned, she knew about what had happened in Bardoff City.

Melanie nodded. "I do. You're the head of the Walters."

She would never have expected to run into Jenny Walter so randomly in the mall. Thank God she'd stopped herself in time. If she angered Jenny, even ten of her houses would not be enough as reimbursement.

Jenny smiled, saying nothing.

Although Jenny's identity surprised her, Melanie was actually more interested in Stephanie. "And you're Stephanie Walker?"

"Do you know me?" Stephanie was surprised. It was normal for someone to know about Jenny since she was the head of the Walters. But Stephanie was still pretty much unknown in Bardoff City.

Melanie's expression was odd, and when she spoke, it sounded like she was suppressing her anger. "Of course I do. You're Paul Wagner's exgirlfriend."

When Stephanie heard that description of her, she instantly felt conflicted. She didn't know what to say. All this while, she hadn't known what she and Paul were considered as. They weren't exactly in a normal relationship.

But now that Melanie had said those words, Stephanie's mind cleared- she'll think of him as an ex-boyfriend.

"My dad introduced Paul to me. I didn't think of him as anything much until I met him. I fell in love at once. I only knew about your existence when I got someone to investigate him afterward. Sorry for doing that without your permission," Melanie said a little apologetically.

Stephanie shook her head. She didn't mind. "It's okay. We've already broken up anyway."

"But he still likes you," Melanie said, looking at her.

Stephanie was stunned. She thought that Melanie would be angry when she said that. However, she wasn't. Melanie had said it all very nonchalantly.

The atmosphere instantly grew solemn. Melanie smiled suddenly and pointed outside. "Let's have a chat. I'll treat you all to some smoothies."

Jenny looked at Stephanie, who was equally dumbfounded. However, she did not feel opposed to it. "Alright.' Melanie paid for the dress she had tried on, and they walked into the smoothies shop downstairs.

Jenny couldn't remember the last time she had a smoothie. Most of the time, she had coffee instead because she felt smoothies were too sweet for her liking.

They ordered some smoothies. It was then that Melanie picked up where they left off. "Although I know he still likes you, I don't mind. I think it just means that he has depth. Someone like that is worthy of my affection.’ Her eyes shone when she spoke of Paul. Stephanie felt her chest bloom when she looked at her. She remembered how proud she was to be with Paul before.

Then when Paul was unwilling to disclose their relationship and even said he wouldn't marry her, their relationship changed forever.

Even now, even if Paul said that he would make their relationship public and that he would marry her, Stephanie would just walk away.

She'd been disappointed before. She didn't dare to have hope.

She looked at Melanie, feeling that both her and Paul's family were suited for each other. They'd get along well together.

"Do you know him, since you like him that much?" Jenny thought that Melanie wasn't all too bad. She was a little arrogant before, but she didn't really have any bad bones in her body. Hence, she felt the need to let Melanie know what sort of person Paul was.

Melanie shook her head. “I don't. He doesn't give me the chance to."

She had confessed to Paul before, but he had rejected her cruelly. He didn't give her a chance at all.

"Well, do you know why Stephanie wanted to break up with him?’ Jenny asked.

Melanie shook her head. "I investigated it but couldn't find out why."

It had taken her quite a while to find out about Paul's and Stephanie's relationship. She had no means to find out why they'd broken up.

"It was because Paul did not want to make their relationship public and said he wouldn't marry her. Would you be able to accept that?" Jenny scoffed. She was still angry about it.

What did Paul take Stephanie as? Did he think he was invincible?

Melanie would never in a million years guess that it was because of that. It took her a while to snap back to reality. ’How could that be? He…’ "He looks to be in love now because Stephanie left him so determinedly. If she had stayed by his side, he wouldn't have cherished her," Jenny said confidently.

Melanie was silent.

Stephanie couldn't bear to see her like that and said, "He's not that bad. It's just that we weren't meant to be. Our families and other aspects of our lives didn’t match. But you're different. You two are meant for each other."

At once, Melanie's eyes lit up. "Really? You think we're meant to be?"

"Yeah." Stephanie nodded.

Melanie smiled happily. Jenny, on the other hand, was speechless.

Were her words nothing but thin air?

As if reading her mind, Melanie said, "I know what you mean, but I can understand him. He isn't in tune with his emotions and doesn't know how to cherish things. Rather, he doesn't know how to love. But now he's regretting it.

He knows now. It's just that some things can't be brought back. " Melanie couldn't help feeling sorry for him.

If Alec were to do what Paul did, refuse to make their relationship public, refuse to marry her, and then trap her in his house, Jenny would not forgive him either.

Some things were just a matter of principles.

"Of course, not everyone has to forgive him. Like Stephanie. Don't you forgive him?" Melanie said. She continued, "But he has to be given another chance.

Stephanie might not be willing to give him a chance, but I do. I believe that he won't make the same mistake again."

Jenny admired her willingness to be a lab rat. "Alright, as you wish."

She couldn't stop anyone from liking Paul. Despite his shortcomings, Paul was handsome and came from wealth. Lots of girls would like him.

"Can we exchange phone numbers? We'll be able to hang out in the future."

Melanie took her phone out embarrassedly, blushing a little. She wouldn't have been so arrogant if she had known that she would be friends with them.

Jenny and Stephanie shared a smile and didn't refuse her.

Once they were done with their smoothies, Jenny and Stephanie prepared to leave. "Bye, and good luck!"

"I'll need it. I'll send you the wedding invites," Melanie said.

"We'll be waiting." Jenny was actually looking forward to it.

On the way home, Jenny first drove Stephanie back.

She glanced at Stephanie, who was sitting in the passenger seat. "What do you think? Did you feel uncomfortable talking with Melanie?"

"Uncomfortable? Why would I be uncomfortable?" Stephanie was confused.

She didn't quite know what Jenny was getting at.

"She wants to pursue Paul and even said she'd send you the wedding invites.

Don't you feel the slightest bit uncomfortable?" Jenny asked.

Stephanie shook her head. She didn't feel like that at all. "I don't. I'm just worried that she’ll fail."

She knew how stubborn Paul was.

"Well, that means you're truly over Paul," Jenny concluded. Although Stephanie had said so before, Jenny hadn't confirmed it personally. Now, she had no doubt at all.

Stephanie shrugged. "I already told you before. You didn't believe me."

"Well, why don't you try getting together with Leonard? You have to give yourself a fresh start." Forget what happened before. If Stephanie did not take the first step, she would forever be trapped in the past. Jenny didn't want to see that happen.

Stephanie felt a headache coming. She leaned against the window. 'Til think about it. I have to take it slow, don't I?"

Although she had feelings for Leonard, her feelings hadn't yet developed. They had to keep growing.

Jenny didn't say much else. As long as Stephanie had a mind to start anew, Jenny was happy.

The car soon stopped at the Walkers' residences. Because Stephanie had bought quite a lot of things, Jenny helped her carry them into the house.

Afterward, she chatted with the Walkers for a while before returning to Evan's villa.

She'd bought a lot of things, too, but they were all for other people.

She parked the car and took out a gift box from the boot. It was for Evan.

She took it in, not expecting to meet Evan in the living room. He raised his head and looked in her direction. "You're home."

Mhm. Have you had dinner?" Jenny went to sit across from Evan.

Evan nodded. "Don't worry about me. I have a personal chef, remember?"

Though having asked Jenny to move in with him, Evan still didn't want to control her too much. He didn't want to upset her, after all.

"Here. Got you a present for New Year's." Jenny handed him a present.

Evan took it, surprised. "Isn't New Year's in two days? Why1 re you giving me this now?"

Jenny shrugged. "It's all the same to me."

Evan smiled. "Thank you.’ "Open it. See if you like what I got you." Jenny beamed at him, hoping Evan's moods might lift with the present she got for him.

"I'll love anything you give me." Evan opened the present up. Upon seeing it was a tie, he smiled. "Stylish. Thank you."

"I'm glad you like it. I wasn't sure what you liked; I just felt like this suited you."

Evan wanted to ask if anyone else had gotten such a gift, but he swallowed his words at the last second.

Afterward, Jenny got up. ’I'll wheel you back into your room."

"Alright." Evan nodded.

After he'd returned to his room, Jenny went back to hers. Her phone rang the instant she switched on the lights. It was Alec.

"Are you back?" Alec asked.

Standing in front of the window, Jenny spotted him across the building." You're not gonna spy on me forever, are you?"

That was creepy.

"As long as I'm working in the study, I'll always notice when you light your room up," Alec huffed.

"Oh…anyway, aren't you going to bed yet?"

"I was waiting for you," Alec replied. "Did you have fun today?"

"Mhm.’ It was easy to forget all her troubles while spending time with Stephanie.

"You should go out more often with her then." Alec wasn't the least bit upset that Jenny hadn't invited him to hang out. All that mattered was her happiness.

Jenny hummed in assent, feeling conflicted about the upcoming New Year's.

"Will you be going back to Parrington for New Year's?"

Old Mr. Faust was still alone at Parrington, waiting for Alec to visit, most likely.

"Nah. I've sent someone to bring Grandpa here. He should reach tomorrow. " If his grandfather didn't mind, Alec would love to have him stay in Bardoff City with him so he could look after him.

Jenny blinked in surprise, then thought it was only natural Alec would do that.

He'd most likely settle in Bradoff City long term, so his grandfather would need to move one way or another. "That sounds good. Having Grandpa here will be better than leaving him alone in Parrington."

"Yeah. Mortimer Faust just woke up, too."

"What?" Now Jenny was really taken aback. It was extremely rare for those in a coma to ever regain consciousness.

"Yeah." Alec nodded. "That's why there's hope for Evan's injuries yet."

Jenny agreed with him. She hadn't believed in a miracle before, but hearing about Mortimer's recovery gave her hope.

If a vegetable could come back to their awareness, Evan would definitely recover!"

"What about you? Any New Year's plans?' Alec asked. He wanted to ask her if she’d like to spend it with him but wasn't sure if she'd accept the offer.

After some thinking, Jenny said, "rm not sure. Probably like usualspending it with Zack and Gilbert."

Evan would likely join them as well, though Jenny didn't mention it to Alec for fear of his displeasure.

Frankly, Alec had guessed as much too.

"Sounds good. Why don't we light some fireworks together during the night? We can have lunch together." The people of Bardoff City customarily had their New Year’s meal as lunch instead, so they’d still be able to hang out for the remainder of the day.

"Alright."

Alec grinned. "Get some rest then."

"You too." Jenny didn't ask further about Alec's personal business. She trusted him enough to make the right decisions.

Just as she was about to end the call, Alec suddenly asked, "Aren't you going to ask about Blake and me?"

Jenny frowned, then suddenly recalled the news she'd seen earlier. ’I trust you're not the kind of person to go back on your words," she said uncertainly after a moment's pause.

"Oh? Who says so?" If he didn't, he wouldn't have gone back to pursue Jenny after their divorce.

"So…you really plan to get back together with Blake?" Jenny scoffed.

If so, then whatever was between them would end now.

"Of course not. I never liked her that way." Blake had never been anything to Alec. Jenny was the only one he'd ever had eyes for.

Jenny chewed on her lip. "Really? Why get back in touch with her then?” "You're not jealous, are you, Jenny?" Alec felt there was a chance she still had feelings for him if she'd go so far as to ask that question.

Jenny said nothing, about to hang up the call, when Alec quickly cut in," She just called me all of a sudden, asking for help to succeed as heir to her family."

"She's still after that?' Blake really was quite stubborn. That was the reason Blake had gotten with Alec in the first place, too.

"Yeah. If I don't help her, she'll never stand a chance." Every Watkins only had their eyes on Blake's brother, after all. No one would support a woman forthat position.

Graham giving Jenny the spot as the family head was a rare sight among the Ten Elites.

"So you're gonna help her?" Jenny pouted.

"Not exactly. I'll be getting something out of this too. I've made her promise to try and get her family to help us deal with the remaining Fausts once she succeeds."

Alec would have dealt with them even without Blake's help, but he wasn't about to let her get her way without putting in equal effort.

Jenny nodded. "No wonder. It seems the Fausts have their hands full with the Blakes' antics lately."

The Watkins were, in truth, on par with the Faust family, so if they put in the work to attack the Fausts, not even Yakov and Zeke would be able to handle it.
