Turning to Frank, the beggar said, “You must be special, seeing how you found my family in no time at all. All I ask is that you protect them… No, I beg you.”
“I will,” Frank replied, nodding.
“Thanks!”
The beggar then sighed and headed for the door, but his wife and daughter promptly stopped him. “Is there no other way?”
The beggar shook his head. “This is the best option there is. Just remember to stick with that young man-don’t argue, because this is what I deserve. Do you understand?”
As the mother and daughter were silent, Hana leaned toward Frank. “Well, isn’t that something? I’d never have admitted to my crimes in his place-he’s certainly manned up.”
Frank rolled his eyes. “Let’s see if you’d say that if he had trafficked you. A criminal who atones is still a criminal, so don’t forget their crimes just because they have something going for them.”
