The usually silent Jace unexpectedly spoke. “Are you referring to the woman who once saved Justin’s life on the battlefield?”

“After Justin retired and returned from the front lines, he developed PTSD. His mental state deteriorated severely, even to the point of contemplating suicide. During that time, I often called him, urging him to hold on, to live well.” Grant recounted in a low, slow tone, as though telling a story unrelated to himself. “I reminded him that my life was already worse than death. If he didn’t survive, what would become of the Salvador family’s future? Father and Grandpa would lose their support and be heartbroken.”

“Sir, you are too merciful and kind,” Clarice said, looking at him with pity and biting her lip. “If it were me, that would have been the perfect chance to eliminate Justin once and for all!
