Chapter 6287
Balin’s failure to enter the Gate of Rebirth made him feel as if he had squandered a tremendous opportunity. But upon seeing Charlie, he perceived this as a sign from fate. The major chance he had lost was gone, but now he had a smaller one to seize. Morgana had long claimed that whoever could capture the mysterious figure or force threatening the Warriors Den would be rewarded handsomely, the most significant reward since its inception. Though he didn’t aspire to become the governor of the Fifth Army Governor’s Mansion, Morgana would certainly offer some valuable insights into elixirs, magic weapons, and techniques. With this in mind, his gaze towards Charlie transformed from anger to something more akin to a farmer’s excitement upon discovering a giant panda in the wild.
Charlie was completely prepared for a life-and-death struggle with this old man. He had always been adept at understanding others’ mindsets and realized he wasn’t a match for Balin. In an effort to provoke him, he taunted, “Old man, you’ve been shooed away like a lost dog by the U.S. military in Antarctica for so long, and now you’re trying to act tough in front of me!”
Balin’s eyes sharpened, and with gritted teeth, he cursed, “You bastard! I thought the Japanese had stumbled upon you, but it seems you’ve messed up my plans!”
Charlie chuckled and replied, “Of course! How could I let an old dog like you treat Antarctica like your personal playground?”
At this point, Charlie couldn’t help but sneer, “But you’re a coward, old man. You ran away and even dug a hole thousands of meters deep to hide in. Are you that scared of being found?”
Hearing this, Balin suddenly threw his head back and laughed loudly, the sound echoing across the desolate Antarctic ice sheet, mingling with the low hills in the background. Charlie frowned at the unsettling grin on Balin’s face, realizing the old man’s psychological resilience was greater than he had anticipated; he didn’t seem offended by the insults at all.
After a lengthy laugh, Balin’s smile faded, and he looked at Charlie with interest, asking, “Do you know why I found that so amusing just now?”
