Chapter 6281
After a long period spent in complete darkness, while a person’s vision does not improve, their sensitivity to light can increase dramatically, sometimes hundreds or even thousands of times.
This was Balin’s experience. The absence of the aurora borealis and moonlight for days had not only made him exceedingly irritable but had also allowed his eyes to slowly adjust to the profound darkness. That was why he was able to perceive the faint points of light below, just as he felt he could barely endure it any longer.
If the aurora borealis had been continuously shining down, filtering through the ice and casting its dim glow, he would have been oblivious to these barely noticeable lights beneath him.
Upon confirming that it was indeed light and not merely a figment of his imagination, a rush of excitement surged through him.
The scientists had informed him that there couldn’t possibly be any trace of human remains beneath the Antarctic ice sheet. However, he recalled a tale from a century ago that suggested before the end of the Dharma era, numerous exceptionally powerful cultivators existed in the world. With their extraordinary abilities, they could have certainly constructed an underground city in Antarctica.
He couldn’t help but wonder, “Could these points of light below be linked to the Gate of Ascension?!” Filled with this thought, he quickly summoned his miniature sword, flicking it with one hand as it transformed into a longsword. He broke through the ice sealing the top of the ice cave and began using reiki to guide the flying sword deeper into the ice. To prevent the fragments of ice from blocking the cave, he directed his reiki to propel those fragments to the surface.
If someone had been at the cave entrance, they would have witnessed the ice cave seemingly coming to life, wildly expelling ice shards. Fortunately, Balin had indeed escaped far enough while evading the American forces; within hundreds of kilometers, he was practically the only living individual.
