Ch. 676..680: Powerful Papa with Triplet Babies Chapter 676-680
Chapter 676
She had not expected her secret to be exposed after all these years. After over twenty years without her secret
being discovered, she thought she was safe.
She had been too careless, but she would never agree to a divorce.
Prior to this, Nigel would willingly give up all his wealth out of guilt, but that was not going to happen after his
recent discovery.
Dorothy would not allow this to affect Bianca’s engagement with Anthony.
Hayden walked down the stairs and saw Nigel walking into the hall. He walked over in surprise. "Mr. Faye, why are
you here so late at night? Is something wrong?"
"No. I'm just here to see the children. I didn't have time before this. Are they asleep?" Nigel asked.
Hayden smiled. "Yes, they are all asleep."
"It's fine. I just want to see them," Nigel said.
"Sure, let me show you the way." Hayden led the way. Though Nigel already knew his way around the Royal
Mansion, Hayden had to do so as the head butler. "You care about the children so much, Mr. Faye. If the kids
know that their grandfather came all the way here at night to see them, they would be overjoyed!"
"Is Anthony home?"
"Yes, he is in the study room!"
"Is he still stopping Anne from seeing the kids?"
"I'm not sure about that, but Mr. Marwood has been in a bad mood lately. Only the children dare to get close to him," Hayden said.
'Is it because Anne went overseas? Or perhaps because of the stabbing incident?’ Nigel thought.
He recalled the explanation Anne gave on the phone, saying that she had not hurt Bianca and that it was Bianca who ran towards the knife.
He should never have agreed to let Anne apologize to Bianca.
Once they were at the door, Nigel went in alone.
The triplets were asleep next to one another adorably; Chloe slept in the middle while her brothers slept on both of her sides, almost as though they were trying to protect her.
Nigel sat down gently by the bed and glanced at Charlie and Chris, who looked exactly like Anthony. As for Chloe, she was the exact replica of Anne, according to Sarah.
Nigel stared at Chloe and tried to imagine Anne when she was smaller. He could not help but reach out to pat Chloe on the head with tears in his eyes.
Anne was not around, so being close to Chloe was the closest he could get to comfort.
"Umph..." Chloe moved and opened her eyes. "Grandpa?"
Nigel immediately jolted away and suppressed his sorrow before whispering, "Did I wake you?"
"Maybe I woke up because I can sense you here," she said with a soft voice.
Nigel's heart melted.
"Grandpa, hug me..." Chloe raised her arms sweetly.
Nigel felt as though he could reach for the stars for her and went to pick her up before placing her on his lap and tapping her gently on the back. "Let Grandpa put you back to sleep."
Not wanting to sleep, Chloe batted her eyes at him. "Do you miss Mama, Grandpa?"
Nigel was shocked that such a young child could read his mind. "What makes you say that?"
"Because I look like Mama!"
"Yeah. Chloe, you are the spitting image of your mom." Nigel did not deny it, as missing his daughter was not
something to be ashamed of.
"We miss Mama, too, but Papa keeps saying that Mama is on a business trip and hasn’t come home." Chloe
pouted. "Can you take US to Mama?"
"Your dad is right. Your mom is busy right now. She will come back to see you once she is free."
'That takes so long..." Chloe was slightly disappointed.
It was normal for children their age to long for their mother, and Nigel could not help but feel angry at what Anthony
had done.
Conflicts between adults should never involve children.
"I want to dream of Mama, but I've never dreamed before..." Chloe said.
Amused, he chuckled and pinched her chubby cheeks. "Why don't you try going back to sleep? Maybe you will
dream of your mom."
Chloe closed her eyes hopefully and drifted off to sleep.
Nigel watched over her with gentle eyes, unable to let go until he heard footsteps and saw Anthony stepping into
the bedroom.
Chapter 677
Nigel set Chloe down between her two brothers and placed a blanket over her, silently hoping that her dreams would come true.
After stepping out of the room, Nigel asked, "Are you really going to keep the kids from their mother? If you truly care for them, you shouldn't
do such a thing. It's not good for them."
"If you were the one who discovered the kids, would you say the same thing to Anne?"
Nigel turned and glanced down the stairs. "I can't promise anything about things that haven't happened."
"You won't," Anthony said with certainty.
Nigel sighed, all his sorrow and despair gathering like a storm within his eyes. "That's my life. I took one wrong step, and everything went
south from there. I destroyed my life and others along with it. Anthony, I've treated you with kindness, and I only have one wish: that you
don't hurt Anne. I'm begging you."
Anthony frowned. What Nigel said seemed overly gloomy for a night like this. "What happened?" Anthony asked.
"Nothing happened. I'm just talking some sense into you." Nigel looked at him. "Let me ask you this. What do you feel about Anne right now? Do you hate her?"
Anthony stiffened and remained quiet.
If it was not for hatred, why would he not let her go?
"I'm not asking you to care for her or anything. Just let her be with her children and live like a normal family. Is that so hard?"
"You've misunderstood, Mr. Faye. She's the one who didn't come to visit the children. You know that she's out of the country right now." Anthony's expression darkened.
"She's just in a bad mood and needs a change of scenery. So I assume that you will let her see the children once she comes back?" Nigel asked.
"I'm not that heartless," Anthony said.
Without another word, Nigel nodded and turned to leave.
Anthony stood by the fences and watched as Nigel leave.
Everything was caused by Anne herself, and Anthony considered himself merciful to let her see her children after she had left the country without his permission.
Anne and Sarah remained in Glasbel Isle for a week before leaving for the Cambrick University where Anne had studied before.
The ancient building was surrounded by greenery and rivers, forming a breathtaking sight.
"And so I left gently, like the way I came. I waved and bid my farewell to the clouds... Are those the words? I don't even remember anymore," Sarah said.
"Yeah, that's the poem down to the exact word."
'I loved David Palmore's poems when I was young. I fantasized about love back then and met your dad. I was so brave then. Now that I'm
older, I've forgotten what it's like to be in love. Everything has been replaced by lust and materialistic desires." Sarah sighed as she watched
all the young students traveling on campus.
Anne could not agree more. Her life would have been different if her parents were together, and they would have been very happy.
Her destiny was parallel to Anthony's, and they were never supposed to cross paths, but in the end, fate had its way of toying with mortals.
"You are still young. You have plenty of chances," Sarah said.
"I don't want to think about that right now," Anne said.
Sarah felt frustrated as soon as she thought of Anthony and was about to say something when...
"Anne?"
Both Anne and Sarah turned around and froze when they saw Lucas from a distance.
Chapter 678
'Lucas!' Sarah chirped.
Anne stiffened at the way her mother addressed Lucas.
Lucas walked over with joy filling his eyes. "Anne, Ma'am Vallois. I thought I was mistaken. It's really you. Are you
here as tourists?'
Anne smiled sheepishly. "I'm taking my mom out for a trip."
"That's nice," Lucas said.
'Why are you here, Lucas? Do you own this school as well?"
"I'm here for certain research. My friend is a professor here, so I decided to drop by," Lucas said.
'Wow, how impressive to be a professor in Cambrick at such a young age! As expected of someone who would be
your friend," Sarah said.
'You are too kind, Ma'am Vallois."
Sarah shot Anne a look, and before Anne had time to figure out what it meant, Sarah proceeded and said, "oh my, I'm exhausted from all this walking. Lucas, why don't you take Anne for a walk? I will go over there to rest. I remember seeing a cafe on our way here. Anne, go there to look for me later!"
"Huh? Mom..." Sarah ran off lightning fast before Anne could stop her and did not appear exhausted. Feeling uncomfortable to be left alone with Lucas, she said, "I'm sorry about that. I'm sure you are busy. Don't worry about me."
'I'm done with the day and was going to walk around anyway when I spotted you two. Keep me company for a while?"
Since he had said so, there was no reason for Anne to refuse.
Sarah turned around to look at the two and was impressed by what a perfect match they looked.
'If only Lucas could be my son-in-law...’ she thought.
The two took a long stroll in silence until eventually...
’You...'
"I..."
They both tried to speak at the same moment.
Amused, Lucas paused and took the initiative. "How have you been?"
'The kids are with Anthony, and it's not that easy to see them. I always have to beg my way to it," Anne said with resignation.
"You used to be worried about them being discovered, and now, you have to worry about not being able to see them. I suppose both are equally difficult."
Anne felt his words in her heart as he summed up her struggle with a sentence.
"But since you are here, I assume things aren’t as bad?" Lucas asked.
"I snuck out." Anne looked up at the sky. "If the kids aren't in Luton, I would never go back."
It had been so hard for her to escape and finally be free.
"Do you think this is good or bad?" Anne asked.
'I would say that you could not go back if you don't want to, but I'm sure that's not what you want to hear," he said.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Newman, but I don't have the luxury of living my life the way I want yet." She lowered her gaze.
Even if she could, she knew her place and knew that she had nothing to do with Lucas any longer.
Lucas's expression darkened as he stared off at the river. "This wouldn't have happened if only I were strong
enough."
Anne frowned. "You are strong and talented. Anthony is powerful because he has no weaknesses and is more
ruthless than anyone. Those kinds of men are dangerous. Mr. Newman, you are far more brilliant than he would
ever be. Please don't think like that or try to change."
He glanced at her. "You deserve a better life."
"I hope that we will both have a bright future ahead," Anne said with a smile.
Chapter 679
Lucas studied her face gently and thought to himself, 'But will I be a part of your future?'
He knew better than to voice it out as it would only pressure Anne.
Sarah sat down in the cafe and stared outside the window as she sipped on her coffee.
She spotted Anne walking over, but Lucas was nowhere to be seen. Before Anne could even take her seat, Sarah
asked hastily, "So? What did you two talk about?"
"Why are you so nosy?" Anne propped her chin in her palm.
"Did he come all the way here because he knew you were here?"
"What are you thinking about?" Amazed by her mother's wild imagination.' He already said that he's here for work."
"How long will he be staying?"
"Another two days."
"That's great. We aren't going back anytime soon. Call him out tonight or tomorrow for a meal."
"That's not really necessary, is it?" Anne did not want to be too close to Lucas.
"Don’t be rude! Think about how kind he has been to you. He helped you hide the children and allowed them to receive early education at his school. Have you ever bought him dinner for once?"
Anne was rendered speechless as she had not done so since she was too poor.
"Is that really what you have in mind? Mom, let me tell you this: I rejected Lucas right from the beginning because of Anthony. Anthony would never let me live my life, so what's the point of dragging
Lucas into it?" Anne said.
She did not want to be the horrible woman who slept with Anthony while flirting with Lucas at the same time.
Exposed of her true intention, Sarah cut to the chase. "If Anthony is out of the picture, you two can be together. You can get married and give birth to more babies. You will have a happy life!"
"There's no ifs," Anne said.
"I'm so annoyed by this." Sarah sipped on her coffee to suppress her anger.
"Don't be. I'm used to it by now."
"If not Lucas, then just marry Anthony!" Sarah said, "Like I've suggested before."
"This isn't a multiple-choice question!"
"If you aren't dead set on being with Lucas, you might as well marry Anthony. Anthony is rich and powerful, and he has your kids. Are you looking fortrue love? Listen to me. That crap is not worth it!" Sarah lectured.
Anne stared outside the window and said with determination, "Impossible.
I will never obey him like I did in the past."
Anthony had shoved her and slapped her on the face for Bianca's sake, and all that he had done had only driven her further away.
Sarah knew what Anthony had done in the past and did not have the heart to continue.
She knew that Anthony was not a good man, but they were all stuck in the current situation with no hope of finding
a way out. Even if they tried, they would only end up in tears and blood.
Anne showed no sign of returning after exiting the country for ten days, and Anthony's mood was visibly worsening
as days went by.
The entire Archduke Group was affected by the undeniable feeling that a storm was ahead of them.
There was a knock on the door, and with Anthony's permission, Oliver walked in with a stressed expression. Mr.
Marwood, I found out that Lucas Newman was seen in Cambrick as well..."
Anthony narrowed his eyes and looked up angrily. "What did you just say?"
"I'm sorry, sir, but by the time I found out, he's already been there for two days," Oliver forced himself to continue
despite the intimidating aura oozing off of Anthony.
Anthony's expression darkened as he came to the conclusion that Anne had traveled out of the country to meet
with Lucas.
"That's the end of my mercy!” he roared.
Anne and Sarah walked out of the hotel elevator and spotted a familiar figure when they walked past the reception.
Chapter 680
It was Lucas trying to check in for his room.
"Lucas!’ Sarah shouted in excitement.
Lucas turned around and was stunned for a moment before smiling at them. "You are staying here as well?”
’Yeah! What a coincidence! We are just going to head out for dinner. Have you eaten?" Sarah said with a grin.
"Not yet." Lucas smiled. "I'm just done with work."
"Let's go together, then! We found a pretty nice local cuisine here. Well?" Sarah suggested.
Lucas glanced at Anne hesitantly.
Seeing that Lucas did not intend to refuse, Anne extended the invitation as well, "Do you have the time?"
Lucas turned to the hotel staff and said, ‘Help me bring my belongings up to my room."
"Yes, sir." The staff bowed respectfully.
Anne, Sarah, and Lucas headed out together.
Lucas had rented a car from the hotel as that would be more convenient for him to travel, so he drove while the other two sat in the backseat.
Anne felt slightly awkward as it almost felt like Lucas was merely their driver.
She looked up, and her heart fluttered when their eyes met through the rear viewing mirror.
Sarah noticed it and started a conversation. "Lucas, what's your mom doing at home lately? It's been so long since we played blackjack."
"She's trying everything she can to marry me off, Ma'am Vallois. You really should ring her up for a few games. I'm at my wit’s end here." He chuckled.
"I can't help you with that! I agree with your mom. You have to marry at some point. You should act as soon as you find someone you like!" Sarah said.
’It's not that simple."
"It's easy. Just don't be too stubborn, and everything can last forever. As soon as you get too caught up in one thing, it will never end well. In the end, you are your worst enemy," Sarah said.
It seemed to be an advice that could apply to anyone.
Lucas had a strong sense of responsibility and refused to marry anyone, but in the end, he was left alone. Anne, on the other end, was too stubborn and found herself in a worse situation. Both could only comfort themselves by brushing it off by calling it fate.
The three went for dinner and took a stroll in the night market. They all had fun and returned to the hotel at nine.
Lucas parked the car at the entrance and let the valet parking staff drive it away.
As soon as the three entered the lobby, they sensed something wrong.
All the guests and staff were gone, and there were a few bodyguards in black standing before them.
Anne jolted as chills ran down her spine.
"I thought you were never coming back," a cold voice pierced through the air.
Anne turned around and paled when she saw the man walking in.
Anthony stood tall, and his eagle-like eyes were filled with malicious intent.
Sarah leaned closer to Lucas and pulled Anne closer to her as well.
Lucas scowled, displeased by Anthony's sudden appearance.
"Looks like I'm not welcomed here." Anthony stared at Anne intently. "The freedom out here has allowed you to
forget who you are."
He reached out to drag Anne toward him violently.
”Ah!" Anne fell into his arms in fear. "Let me go, Anthony!"
