After that, she turned and headed into one of the cafes by the streets.
Before Ashlynn could realize what was happening, she was slapped across the face.
Enraged by the burning sensation on her cheek, she muttered, “Why you.
“You are nothing compared to Ms. Meredith! I’m warning you! Stay away from Ms. Meredith and the Hiltons. If you go to the mansion again, I’m going to poison you!” Aunt Cher said viciously. When Ashlynn did not respond, Aunt Cher shoved at her and said, “Did you hear what I said?”
Ashlynn clenched her fists, wondering if she should punch this woman in the face; she then thought of the kindness the Hiltons had shown her and gave up, knowing that Aunt Cher was practically a part of the Hilton Family as well.
“What, are you going to hit me? Come on, let’s see what you are made of!”
“I wouldn’t dare to. After all, one would have to consider the status of the owner before beating their
hounds.”
Realizing that Ashlynn was referring to her as a hound, Aunt Cher widened her eyes in anger. “What did you just say? Do you want to get slapped again?” She raised her arm again.
Ashlynn was not going to tolerate her any longer and was about to fight back, when a figure darted
toward them.
“Baam!”
Aunt Cher collapsed onto the ground with blood oozing out of a wound on her forehead.
Alexis stared at Ashlynn endearingly with a rock in her hand. “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine “Ashlynn gaped at her.
Alexis was supposed to be locked in the asylum, so why was she out and about?
“Good,” Alexis said, before tossing the rock in her hand away, which fell onto Aunt Cher’s head once again.
Aunt Cher collapsed onto the ground once again and did not move again.
“Are you shopping? Let me keep you company.” Alexis took Ashlynn’s hand.
Ashlynn felt both dazed and nervous, not certain if she should allow this considering Alexis’s mental state.
“You are my daughter-in-law now. I will buy you whatever you want, Alexis said as she pulled Ashlynn into a jewelry shop.
Ashlynn refused to go in, but Alexis insisted and ignored her objection.
Alexis even told the sales to bring out their best pieces, and when the staff offered to help, Alexis dismissed them and ordered them to stand in a distance.
Alexis had sharp eyes for jewelleries. She picked up each and every diamond and explained their origins.
The staff listened to their conversation and realized that she must be a wealthy lady possessing countless jewelleries.
Not impressed at all, Ashlynn whispered, “Do you even have money?”
“Forget about that,” Alexis said.
‘What else are we supposed to talk about if we are shopping for jewelry? Ashlynn thought with resignation.
Alexis’ demeanor indeed demanded respect. Though she was an older woman dressed in ordinary outfits, one could tell that she came from a wealthy background from the way she behaved.
“None of these are worthy of my attention Let’s go!” Alexis took Ashlynn’s hand and led her out of the
store
Ashlynn sighed a breath of relief that Alexis did not decide to buy anything.

She really did not want any more jewelry
Before they could walk away, two of the staff stopped them.
“I’m sorry. Um…one of our diamond rings went missing. Have you seen it?” The female staff asked.
Despite it being a question, Ashlynn could tell that they were suspected of stealing the ring.
“What are you trying to say? I put it down! Are you saying that I stole it? Search me, then!” Alexis straightened her back proudly
Though the staff were not allowed to search the customers, they refused to give way. “I’m sorry This might be a mistake, so why don’t we head back into the store and we can all check the surveillance
footage.”

Ashlynn felt like they were being falsely accused as they could not have stolen anything. Just as she felt angry from being treated like thieves, something fell off of Alexis’s body.
The four of them turned to look and saw an extravagant diamond ring on the ground.
Ashlynn gaped at Alexis in disbelief, realizing that she had indeed stolen the ring.
Ashlynn had never imagined that she would be arrested for theft, and Alexis continued to argue with the police that the ring fell into her pocket on its own record.
Ashlynn held her hand up to cover her face in embarrassment, not knowing how to explain to the police that Alexis was mentally ill.
Just then, a few people in white robes came in. They showed the police officers their badges and explained the situation, before taking Alexis with them.
“Daughter-in-law! Daughter-in-law! Just wait. I will buy you a ring!” Alexis shouted.
Soon, she disappeared into the distance.
Ashlynn glanced down at her hands and realized that Alexis might have gone to steal the ring because Ashlynn was not wearing any.
The police officers turned their attention to Ashlynn, wondering if she was one of the patients in the asylum as well.
Ashlynn did not feel the urge to explain herself.
Suddenly, she heard noises from the entrance and when she turned to look over, Corentin’s towering figure appeared in her sight as he walked over mightily with his hands in his pockets.
There were other men behind him and he stood before Ashlynn to study her face.
A few minutes later, Ashlynn walked out of the police station and went into Corentin’s car.
The car went onto the highway steadily and Ashlynn felt the need to explain herself. “I didn’t steal the ring. Alexis probably thinks that the ring looks nice and stole it.”
As Alexis suffered from mental illnesses, she would not be required to be trialed for the felony, but would still have to pay a fine.
All Ashlynn could hope for was that Corentin would not get any odd ideas from the incident.
Corentin did not say a word, but instead reached for her hand.
Just as she wondered what he wanted to do, a ring slipped into her finger and she froze
Why is he giving me a ring? She thought, ‘Is it because of what happened today?”
“I told you that I didn’t steal it. I have nothing to do with that. I don’t like diamond rings.
“Start liking it, then,” he said decisively as he admired the ring on her finger. “This ought to stop those flies from bothering you.”

“You are forcing me to accept this,” Ashlynn said angrily.
“So what if I am? Can you refuse me?” He said, before pulling her over to plant a forceful kiss on her lips.
Ashlynn knew that she could not refuse him, or the videos and photos of her would be publicized. If it was all up to her, she could have been able to bury her dog’s remains with dignity, instead of wearing its bones
as a watch.
Corentin was a disgusting man, and she could only numb herself in the nightmare of being stuck by his side
She buried her face in the crook of his neck and pleaded, “Can you just delete the videos and photos? I won’t disobey you. I just feel so insecure that those things exist. I keep getting the feeling like someone is going to find them..”
“No,” Corentin said, before pausing for a brief moment. “Haven’t you given up on that?”
“You are not a woman, so you don’t understand a woman’s pride,” she said, knowing that Corentin had. never respected anyone. Everyone, no matter their gender or age, was for him to torment in his perspective
“But you are my woman.” He bit down on her neck.
Ashlynn shivered at the pain and whimpered, to which Corentin chuckled in response
Ashlynn was overwhelmed by the urge to kill herself for a moment, but changed her mind shortly after

Corentin’s phone rang. He took one glance at it and answered it impatiently with one arm around Ashlynn.
“What?”
“Come over here.”
“Say what you want on the phone.”
“I can’t! This is about the Hiltons. Mr. and Mrs. Hiltons, and Meredith are all here. You have to come and explain yourself! Should I go over there to drag you over?” Cory said, “Bring Ashlynn along. This is related to her as well.”
Corentin narrowed his amber-colored eyes darkly in silence, before hanging up and ordering the driver to
head toward Cory’s mansion.
Ashlynn overheard what Cory said and assumed that it was about Alexis beating Aunt Cher. Regardless, she was slightly surprised that Cory was involved in it as well.
‘I guess it’s not that weird. After all, Corentin would have ignored the Hiltons straightaway if they tried to come to him directly’
Corentin studied Ashlynn’s face and she explained, “Before Alexis stole the ring, I was in a conflict with Aunt Cher and she got injured.”
“Who’s that?”
“She’s kind of like a butler for the Hiltons.”
When they arrived, they spotted two cars at the entrance that belonged to Beth and Meredith respectively
As soon as they went inside, they saw Marshall, Beth and Meredith sitting on the couch.
Both Marshall and Beth beamed when they saw Ashlynn After all, it had been some time since Ashlynn’s last visit and she refused to visit even when they called her
The two had been waiting day after day and it was a dreadful feeling to be parted with their daughter when Ashlynn was not even married

It was obvious that Corentin was the issue
Corentin sat down on the couch, ignoring Beth and Marshall, while Ashlynn sat down next to him with her back straightened.
Meredith glared daggers at Ashlynn.
“What’s so important that I need to come over right away?”
Beth was amazed by just how arrogant Corentin was. He had shown no manners and was the complete opposite of the gentleman-like demeanor he showed on the outside.
One should never judge a book by its cover and after being in close proximity with Corentin, Beth had finally seen his true self and decided that a man like him did not deserve to be with her daughter, even though her daughter grew up in the slum, she was a high-born by blood.
Cory glanced at Ashlynn sternly. “Did you injure someone from the Hilton Family?”
Before Ashlynn could respond, Corentin sneered darkly. “I heard about what happened. That’s just a servant, so why are you all making a fuss over this? Ashlynn is my woman and even if she hurts someone in a position of power, she should never be made to explain herself”
“That’s Aunt Cher,” Meredith said angrily. “She’s not like ordinary servants! She’s like family to me!”
“You are full of surprises, Ms. Meredith, if you are so eager to be family with a servant,” Corentin mocked.
“I.” Meredith was instantly rendered speechless.
Beth and Marshall did not say a word and simply observed Corentin, wondering if Corentin was defending Ashlynn to preserve his own pride, or doing so for Ashlynn’s sake.
Shortly after, Beth noticed the ring that did not exist on Ashlynn’s finger before. The diamond glittered spectacularly and it was clear that it cost a fortune.
No one else would be capable of buying such a gift other than Corentin, as Ashlynn could not possibly buy it herself.
“You are only defending your own pride. One might misunderstand that you actually care for Ashlynn!” Beth said in an attempt to expose him. “You even got a diamond ring for her. What, are you going to propose?”
Ashlynn instinctively covered her hand as though it was the filthiest secret, which reinforced Beth’s belief that there was more to the story.
‘Maybe Ashlynn was forced to say that she loves Corentin… She thought.
Meredith was humiliated Though Corentin had bought her gifts before, she had never received any ring from him. Even if she was not deeply in love with Corentin, such difference in treatment was a direct insult toward her
She was the young lady of the Hilton Family, the only person who could be considered a perfect match for Corentin, yet she was treated less than Ashlynn.
Cory was embarrassed, but explained, “It’s just an accessory It doesn’t mean anything.”
“Why don’t I think so?” Beth questioned.
Corentin’s expression darkened as he sneered ruthlessly. “That’s right. I’ve forgotten to mention that Ashlynn and I have been married for three months. Forgive me for the delay.”
Everyone in the room gaped and Ashlynn was stunned.

“Corentin Lloyd, you are way out of line!” Marshall stood as well.
Cory pointed at Corentin with a trembling finger, his heart threatening to give out “You….explain yourself Are you just saying that to get to me?”
