Ch. 1176..1180: Powerful Papa with Triplet Babies Chapter 1176-1180
Chapter 1176
Ashlynn understood that it was a threat, and it sent chills down her spine.
As long as the child existed, everything would be fine, but without it, anything could happen; whether or not Ashlynn lost the child on purpose, she would have to take the blame.
The next morning, Corentin stayed for breakfast with her and left with his jacket in a seemingly great mood.
She walked over to the door and watched as the black Bently drove off to the distance, the gigantic gate closing behind it.
It did not matter if Corentin left. There were countless surveillance cameras inside
the mansion, and she had nowhere to hide.
She headed into the bathroom and glanced at her back through the mirror.
It was still there.
She desperately wanted to tear it off and flush it down the toilet, but she knew that Corentin meant every word he said. Even if she got rid of it, he would simply replace it.
Just then, her phone in the bedroom rang, and she walked outside to find Jeremy’s name on display. Jeremy had been the only one who reached out to her about her disappearance from the company.
“Hello?”
“Why do I hear that you got fired?” he asked.
It was a job that people would die for, after all. One would never simply quit on their own will and the only way that they would be removed from the position would be if they had upset their superior.
“Did something happen between you and Corentin? Did he lose interest in you that soon?”
“No.”
“Why is he getting officially engaged to Meredith, then?”
Ashlynn was taken by surprise. “Engaged?”
“You didn’t know? They are holding the engagement party this week in a hurry,” Jeremy said sarcastically.
Ashlynn had not expected to agree to an engagement with Meredith when he had married her, not to mention doing so when Ashlynn was pregnant.
“Are you upset?” Jeremy asked.
“It’s just an engagement party?”
“It’s just a ceremony to inform everyone that the Lloyds and Hiltons are joining forces. It’s confirmed. I guess some men prioritize careers over everything. Don’t be too upset. There are other nice guys out there,” Jeremy said empathetically.
‘Is he trying to say that Corentin is one of the nice guys? Meredith has never seen Corentin’s true face and thinks that he’s a gentleman when he is actually a monster of the dark,‘ she thought.
“How about this? I can take you to the engagement party and ‘surprise‘ Meredith,” Jeremy offered.
“Do you have a grudge against her or something?” she asked with resignation.
“No. I just don’t like her.”
“Aren’t you family?”
“We are. My dad and hers are brothers, and because both of their first children were daughters, so the power balance remained. My older sister went missing after turning one year old, though. We’ve never managed to find her again; since that happened, my mom has never been truly happy. She prays every day, hoping that she will find her daughter someday; even if we never find my sister, she prays that her adoptive parents will treat her with kindness. My mom ends up projecting all her love for her missing daughter onto Meredith. Meredith might look lady–like on the outside, but she has a horrible personality!”
“Your older sister… went missing?” It was the first time she had heard Jeremy mention this, and she realized that he had resented Meredith.
“Yeah. My mom took her out shopping with the nanny, but she still went missing. We suspect that she was abducted by a trafficker,” Jeremy said gloomily.
Ashlynn felt sympathetic. She, too, was sold from one place to another before finally ending up in the slum.
Chapter 1177
She never knew who her true mother was. Her adoptive father was a horrible person and her adoptive mother turned a blind eye to it as she struggled to make ends meet.
Ashlynn would often wonder why her actual parents had abandoned her and considered the possibility of her being abducted like Jeremy’s older sister.
Thinking of the possibility that she was not abandoned made her feel slightly better.
“Let me tell you something! My sister was brilliant. Do you know what happened at her one–year–old birthday celebration when they laid different things out for her to grab?”
“What? Did she grab a calculator? A pen? Food? Money?” Having nothing better to do, Ashlynn played along.
“Wrong. She grabbed my grandpa’s hand.”
“Oh…” Ashlynn had not expected such an answer.
“My grandpa was over the moon and immediately announced that my sister would be the heir to inherit the family business,” Jeremy said excitedly but lowered his voice gloomily shortly after. “My sister was just unlucky…”
“Everyone has their own fate, but I’m sure your sister is a lucky one. Wherever she ends up, I’m sure she will lead a great life,” Ashlynn said.
Jeremy switched positions with the phone in his hand and said, “Seriously, though, you really don’t want to go to the engagement party? Meredith is no match for you.”
“I’m not interested.”
She only wanted to stay as far away as possible; even if she wanted to go, she would be captured and brought back to the mansion before stepping out of the gate.
If Corentin was getting engaged, Anne was definitely going to be informed.
Anne was shocked when she received Cory’s call saying that Corentin would be engaged.
She recalled that Ashlynn had mentioned that no one knew about her marriage with Corentin. For a moment, she thought that Corentin was getting engaged to Ashlynn and wondered how Cory agreed to it; after all, powerful families tended to prioritize marriages that could better the family’s position.
“The Lloyds and the Hiltons are finally on the same page. This is great news. Anne, you have to come by with Anthony and the kids. I’ve already informed Anthony in private as well,” Cory said.
“Hiltons?” Anne repeated. “Meredith Hilton?”
“Yeah. She’s the only daughter of the Hilton Family. I was not going to let a daughter- in–law like that escape.”
Anne knew that Cory only favored Meredith because of her family but could not understand why Corentin would agree to be engaged to Meredith.
‘What about Ashlynn?‘ she thought.
After the call with Cory, Anne called Ashlynn. “Ashlynn, are you busy right now?”
“No. How have you been lately? I haven’t talked to you in a while.
Anne touched the bandage on her cheek and said, “I’m fine. What about you?”
“Fine, too. The triplets?”
“They are studying.” Anne proceeded to chat with Ashlynn about the triplets, her mind occupied with the news of Corentin getting engaged to Meredith all the while.
She realized that she had acted too quickly to call Ashlynn and thought, ‘What if Ashlynn doesn’t know about the engagement? Is she going to feel hurt if she finds out?‘
Just as she hesitated, Ashlynn asked, “Is there something you want to say to me? Is it about Corentin getting engaged?”
“… You knew?”
“It’s hard not to. It’s fine. We don’t need to keep secrets,” Ashlynn said.
“What on earth is Corentin doing? Is he lying to you or to Meredith Hilton?”
“I don’t know. Maybe both. He wants to be Corentin by announcing that his wife is going to be Meredith, but at the same time, he doesn’t want to give up on being Salvatore.”
Chapter 1178
“What do you plan to do?” Anne asked.
“I don’t know, Anne… I am pregnant. Corentin blocked all my ways out,” Ashlynn said.
Stunned, Anne muttered, “You are pregnant…”
“He switched up my contraceptive pills and got me pregnant. Corentin Lloyd… disgusts me!”
Anne could sense the despair in Ashlynn’s voice and knew that Corentin’s engagement must feel like nothing at all when Ashlynn was already so devastated. However, getting engaged with another woman when Ashlynn was pregnant was simply a horrible thing to do.
“Don’t worry about me. We have to look at the bright side, right?” Ashlynn added.
On the day of the engagement party, Anne, Anthony and the triplets arrived at Athetin.
Every guest was surprised when they saw the king of Luton amongst the guest list.
The Hilton Family was more than pleased with the union.
They had reserved the entire building of the best hotel in Athetin. The helicopter landed on the top floor. Once they headed down the floors and into the hall, there were men and women dressed in the most extravagant manner; the hall was decorated with crystal and luxuries beyond imagination.
The two families exchanged greetings and headed over to Anthony when he arrived.
“Anthony. Anne.” Cory smiled at the two.
“Grandpa,” Anne greeted, and Anthony followed.
“Great–Grandpa!” The triplets greeted each other politely.
“Hello!” Cory looked at the triplets endearingly.
“Great–Uncle!” the triplets called out.
“Hey there,” Corentin responded with a smile.
“This is Meredith. This is Meredith’s grandfather. That’s her father, uncle, aunt and cousin…” Cory proceeded to introduce.
Just as the two families continued to exchange pleasantries, the triplets stared at Meredith with confusion.
‘Why are they saying that this is our Great–Aunt? Big Sister Ashlynn is our Great–Aunt. Where is she? What is going on?‘ they thought.
“I’ve never had a chance to meet the famous king of Luton. The rumors don’t do you justice! Haha!” Old Mr. Hilton said.
Though Old Mr. Hilton was already in his eighties and was the oldest person in the hall, anyone could tell from his voice that he was still very energetic.
“You are too kind, Old Mr. Hilton,” Anthony said politely.
Old Mr. Hilton could not help but feel slightly intimidated by Anthony’s powerful presence, which was what he would expect of the king of Luton.
Not only was he interested in a union with the Lloyd Family, but he had also taken a liking to Corentin as he determined that someone, as composed as Corentin, was capable of great accomplishments.
“Let’s go over there to sit. Come, Charlie, Chloe, and Chris. Come with Great–Grandpa, Cory called out. Once they all took their seats on the couch, he shot an odd look at Anne. “Anne, why are you wearing a mask? Are you ill?”
The face mask Anne was wearing was tailor–made with a thin layer of fabric that would hide the scar on her face. She only wore it because she did not want to alert anyone.
“Yeah. I caught a cold. It’s fine,” she said.
“Why don’t you rest in one of the rooms? I can make the arrangement,” Beth suggested.
“Thank you, but I’m almost fully recovered, so I’m fine,” Anne said politely, not expecting Beth to care.
Beth was dressed in a slim–fitting gown, which gave her an elegant and delicate appearance. She had short hair, and though she was already a mother, she looked like a young, strong working woman.
The group sipped on wine and chatted on the couch.
Chapter 1179
The triplets ran off to play and Anne got up to follow them. “Don’t cause any trouble!”
Beth chuckled. “They are so adorable. I envy you.”
“Get Jeremy a wife and he can make you grandchildren, too,” Cory said.
Jeremy frowned. “It’s too early for me. We have a couple right here, don’t we? They are engaged now and could just skip the wedding to go straight to getting pregnant!” Meredith glanced at Corentin happily and wrapped her arms around his.
She was overjoyed, even if Corentin had remained quiet the entire time. She had waited for so long for this day to come; once they shared a bed later that night, she would be able to bear his child.
Beth glared at Jeremy. Though he merely stated a fact, it was not appropriate for him to say such a thing in public. “You are old enough. Don’t worry about us and bring home a girlfriend. I promise that I will treat your girlfriend well.”
“And if I bring home a girl who grew up in the slum?” Jeremy asked.
Beth tensed, and silence fell over the group.
A family of their status could never accept a woman from the slum as one of them, and she wondered for a moment if Jeremy was serious or just trying to infuriate her.
Just as Jeremy’s father, Marshall, was about to lecture him, Meredith said, “What are you talking about, Jeremy? We are one of the most powerful families here in Athetin. We will be the joke in town if one of us marries someone from the slum. What do you think this is, a TV show of the typical Cinderella story?”
Jeremy glanced at Corentin. “What do you think, Corentin?”
Corentin twirled the wine in his glass elegantly. “Meredith is right.”
Seeing how he sided with her, Meredith was about to lean her head onto Corentin’s shoulder when Corentin got up. “I need to use the washroom.”
All the food served in the hall was of top quality. There were cakes, snacks, and seafood that cost thousands, and even wine that cost tens of thousands.
Food that ordinary people could not imagine seeing for their entire lives was laid out on the table for the guests‘ picking.
Anne was helping the triplets with their plates.
The three were not tall enough to reach the table and tip–toed to scan their options before demanding whatever they wanted.
The waiters next to them placed whatever the triplets ordered onto the trays. Seeing that there was more than enough food on the tray, Anne reminded, “We won’t be able to finish them if you take too much.”
“Just leave them if you can’t finish.” Corentin walked over.
She turned around, not expecting Corentin to approach her.
On his way here, he was loosening the watch around his wrist as though it was fastened too tightly, which baffled Anne. However, Corentin seemed to be his usual self and even helped place some fruits onto the triplets‘ trays.
“We want to sit there!”
“Mama, come!”
“Mama hasn’t gotten any food!”
“You three go ahead and save me a seat. I’ll be right over.”
“Okay!” The three immediately waddled over like three tiny penguins.
Once the children were gone, Anne asked, “Uncle, are you really getting engaged with Meredith?”
“We are holding the party now, so yes.” Corentin reached for a glass of champagne and took a sip.
“What… about Ashlynn?” She lowered her voice.
Corentin stared at the campaign in his and lifted an eyebrow. “You went to see her?“
Chapter 1180
“I called her. I am going to visit her later,” Anne said.
“There’s no need.”
Anne scowled. “Why not? Uncle, this isn’t right. You are hurting two people at once.”
“I know what I’m doing.” Corentin did not want to continue the discussion.
Meredith walked over and leaned closer to Corentin. “What are you two talking about? Anne, you have such a stern look on your face.”
“You must have great eyes if you can tell the look on my face despite the mask,” Anne said.
Meredith shot her a malicious sneer.
Corentin wrapped his arm around Meredith’s shoulders. “Let’s eat. Are you hungry?”
“I am starving. You are so good to me, Corentin.”
“Anne, enjoy the party,” he said before leaving with Corentin.
Anne watched as they interacted lovingly and felt sorry for Ashlynn.
She turned to head to the bathroom and was about to enter the ladies‘ room, when Anthony came after her. “Anne, don’t wander off.”
Beth, who was about to exit the bathroom, heard Anthony’s voice. Seeing how much he seemed to care for his wife, Beth decided not to interrupt their conversation.
“I’m just going to the bathroom,” Anne said.
“What did you talk to Corentin about?” Anthony questioned sharply.
“I asked him about Ashlynn,” Anne said, confused by Anthony’s reaction.
“Leave those two be.”
“I didn’t want to ask him about it at first, but… Ashlynn is pregnant. How can Corentin get engaged with Meredith now?” Anne was furious.
Beth listened to their conversation with confusion, wondering who Ashlynn was, whose child she was bearing and how she was related to Corentin.
“Whatever. I don’t want to talk about it. I’m going to the toilet,” Anne said.
Beth snuck to hide in a corner and came outside after Anne left. She went out to search for Meredith, but could not find her, so she went to Jeremy, who was speaking to a beautiful woman, and asked, “Where’s your cousin?”
“I don’t know. Maybe the powder room?”
Beth went into the powder room and found Meredith touching up her makeup. “I finally found you.”
“I didn’t know that an engagement party could be this tiring.” Meredith did not mention that Corentin had left her to make a business call, as he claimed,
“Are you not happy?” Beth sat down next to her with a smile and asked.
“Corentin should be the happy one. He managed to get engaged to the daughter of the Hilton Family. He got lucky.” Meredith had been raised like a princess and had been proudly known for her connections and social abilities.
Beth knew Meredith like the back of her hand and knew that despite what Meredith was saying, she loved Corentin with all her heart.
Corentin was considered a perfect match for Meredith, mainly because he had not been seen with other women and had always remained a controlled, composed man. However, after what Beth had overheard from Anne and Anthony, she was worried that Meredith might have been fooled. “Is Corentin seeing any other woman?”
“What… Women? No!” Meredith’s eyes darted away.
“Who’s Ashlynn, then?” Beth asked.
Meredith’s expression darkened. She stood and walked over to the window to stare at the scenery outside. “Just a woman from the slum!”
“The slum?” Recalling what her son had said, Beth instantly pictured a cheap, uneducated woman before her. “So it’s true? How could Corentin do such a thing?”
