Chapter 1441
A pair of charming eyes stared at her.
He feigned an adorable voice and said, “Sherry, I’m bored. Will you go out with me?” Carl’s face was less than a finger away from her.
Sherry covered his face single-handedly and pushed him back, forcing him to stand straight. She said, “I’m busy. Go play by yourself.”
She turned away and continued typing on the keyboard. Carl sighed and pouted. “Sherry, you’ve been in this room for three days now. Aren’t you bored at all?” “No.”
Carl’s gaze shifted. He suddenly bent over and moved close to her ears. “Are you afraid of running into someone on the streets? That’s why you’ve been hiding here for so long.”
Sherry’s typing hands froze all of a sudden. She turned to the man and stared at him coldly. Her lips curled as she said, “Young Master Sager, are you thinking of your mother again?”
Carl pouted and straightened his body once more. A hint of annoyance flashed on his face as he looked askance at her. “Sherry, if you threaten me with my mother again, I’ll fire you.”
Sherry leaned in the chair and crossed her arms. She smiled. “Believe me when | say | will strip you of your position and toss you back to Coastrock City!”
Carl clenched his teeth tightly. “Fine! Fine! Stay here forever!” He angrily turned around and headed to the door.
A few steps later, he turned to Sherry again and narrowed his eyes. “Oh, there’s something | forgot to tell you. The Glenchester Business Guild’s annual conference is going to be held this Friday. I’ve already accepted Old Man Carrel’s invitation.”
Sherry’s expression shifted.
Carl smiled. “Are you going, my dear boss?”
Two days later, Glenchester welcomed a drizzle that added a layer of mist to the already chilly city.
At night, in the room on the eighth floor of the hotel where Sherry used to stay, Caprice had just fallen asleep soundly on the bed. In his working suit, the man stood by the window and
gazed at the drizzle outside. His glasses reflected the
chilly glare of the night on the window.
Awhile later, Peter’s voice came from outside the door. ” Sir, are you asleep?”
John sat on the couch. “Come in.”
The door was unlocked, so Peter let himself in.
He walked to John and glanced at the man’s expression first before he said softly, “Sir, we’ve searched all the clubs and hotels in Glenchester in the past two days as you ordered, but we couldn’t find Ms. Fowler anywhere.”
As his words subsided, the man had a layer of gloom shrouded over his handsome face without surprise. Peter frowned. He wanted to speak but did not have the nerve to make his thought verbal. The thought remained unspoken.
John took his glasses off and closed his eyes. His fingers massaged the center of his brows. A while later, he asked,
“Where do you think she could be?”
“| think Ms. Fowler could be hiding.”
“Why is she hiding then?”
Peter noticed the exhaustion on the man’s face and he did
not look as angry as expected. “I’ll be honest, but please don’t get mad at me.
John’s eyes remained closed as he leaned on the couch. He answered gruffly, “I won’t.” Peter inhaled deeply and said, “I think Ms. Fowler was deeply hurt that night.”
John frowned.
Peter continued, “She might be unconcerned about her pride, but that night, when the crowd labeled her a thief, and even her own biological parents resented her, you…
The man urged him in his deep voice,” Go on.
“You insisted on sending her to the station. Even if her heart was made with stone, it’d crack.” Peter sighed. “I think she was just there to steal an invitation, not something valuable. She stole the invitation because she wanted to see Ms. Caprice. She’s not some thief as the
crowd claimed.”
Chapter 1442
Ayoung woman was berated and insulted by a group of people in public, including her own biological parents
who called her a thief. Even the ones she used to love and the father of her daughter refused to spare a glance at her. No one would be able to tolerate such grief. She must be hiding somewhere to lick her own wounds.
Peter cautiously looked at John after he voiced his opinion.
The man opened his deep eyes with no focus on his pupils. He seemed to be in deep thought, but fortunately, he was not mad. Peter sighed a breath of relief. In the next second, the man’s gruffly voice sounded, “Do you think | treated her poorly?” Peter choked on the question.
How should he answer the question?
The man obviously resented Sherry for what she had done to him in the past.
If Peter said the man treated Sherry poorly, the man would probably be angry; if he lied about it, it seemed wrong as well. John looked at Peter. “Just speak your mind. | won’t get mad at you.”
Peter felt relieved. “Sir, aside from the unhappy past, | believe you’ve treated Ms. Fowler a little too harshly recently. She’s Ms. Caprice’s biological mother after all, and haven’t you been looking for her all this time? Now that she has come back, | believe there’s no reason for you to continue treating her poorly.”
John narrowed his eyes. “How poorly did | treat her?”
Peter said in a small voice, “She passed out in the snow once because of you, and when she was apprehended by security that night, it was heartwrenching.”
“She brought it upon herself.”
As Peter said, aside from the sour past, John had given her a chance two years ago, but she had insisted on abandoning him and the child. He texted her often in the past two years, but she had not once replied to his texts.
Grievance choked him. John’s expression turned cold as he glared at Peter.
Peter instinctively took a step back. “Sir, you said you wouldn’t get mad…”
John closed his eyes again to suppress his emotions.
The room went quiet for a while.
Peter noticed his boss had no intention to continue the conversation anymore. He then said in a small voice, “Sir, if there’s nothing else, I’ll be leaving now.”
“Wait.” John opened his eyes. A slightly gloomy expression lingered on his handsome face, but it was not a sign of him getting mad.
Peter asked, “Yes, sir?” John put on his glasses and looked at him indifferently. ” How do you think | should treat her when | find her later?”
Peter cautiously sized up the man’s expression to make sure the man would not get mad. “If you want her to be Ms. Caprice’s mother, why not treat her better? Try to bring her back to your side.” John narrowed his eyes, his gaze turned sharp.
Peter immediately said, “Sir, it’s just an opinion.” “What if she refuses to come back to me?”
Peter was slightly stunned. “I think Ms. Fowler is at her worst now. As long as you treat her better, she’ll probably have a change of heart.”
“If | treat her better, and she still refuses to change her mind?” Peter thought, ‘Can you not think so negatively?!’
He dared not make his thoughts verbal. A while later, he swapped his thoughts for something more appropriate. ” | think you shouldn’t lock her up anymore. | believe she insisted on leaving you two years ago because she was afraid of being locked up. John widened his eyes. “What did you say?!”
Peter took a few steps back and helplessly continued, You made me say it.” Annoyed, John rolled his eyes. “Just leave.” Peter immediately strode out of the room.
Chapter 1443
The door closed, hence returning the moderately spacious room to peace and quiet. The sky continued to drizzle outside the window.
Caprice was sleeping soundly on the bed, her cheeks slightly blushing.
John’s anxiety and annoyance calmed down when he saw the adorable girl sleeping. His eyes were glued to the girl for a while before he sighed.
It seemed like he was dedicated to treating her better when he found her. Should conscience remain in the woman’s mind and know what was best for her, he could marry her once more and make her Caprice’s mother legitimately.
With the thought in mind, the depression and annoyance that troubled him faded. He got up and wanted to have a bath before resting, but his phone rang. It was from Julie.
Without wanting to startle Caprice, he put the phone beside his ear and whispered, “Julie?”
Julie asked, “John, where have you been with Caprice in the past few days? Mother hasn’t seen Caprice for a while and she’s worried.”
John answered flatly, “| have some matters to attend to. Caprice is with me on a business trip for a few days.”
Out of concern, Julie asked, “The business guild’s conference is tomorrow night. I’ve accepted the invitation on your behalf because you said you were going. I’ve informed Master Carrel that you will be attending. Are you coming home tomorrow?”
John curled his lips and answered gently, “Caprice and | will come back tomorrow afternoon. | don’t plan to bring Caprice to the event, so | have to ask you and Mother to take care of her for me.”
“I’m more than delighted to take care of Caprice. I’ll tell Mother right away. She’ll be happy about it,” Julie said delightedly. The next day, after a delicious meal at the restaurant with
Caprice, John went home to the Stocktons’ residence.
Madam Stockton and Julie were waiting for them.
Madam Stockon was over the moon when she saw them
back. She strode over and reached out to the little girl. Caprice, come and give me a hug!”
Caprice obediently held Madam Stockton’s hand.
Madam Stockton picked her up into her arms and headed back into the house while calling her precious.
Julie smiled as she walked John inside. “How’s work, John? Is everything with the business trip going okay?” John hummed a reply.
“Great. Everything is in order at home. Queenie has been obedient, and other than Mother missing Caprice, everything is fine,” Julie answered gently. John smiled. “Thank you for taking care of the house while I’m away.”
“John, come on. We are family. It’s my duty to take care of things here on your behalf,” Julie immediately said.
When they walked into the living room, they saw Caprice in Madam Stockton’s arms while Queenie played with her.
John sat on the couch while Julie sat on the couch beside him.
Julie said, “John, do you want to get prepared? The conference is in a few hours. | heard from Master Carrel that Young Master Sager is attending too. He also mentioned that the person who helped the Sagers overcome their company’s crisis two years ago is coming along.” John was intrigued. “He’s attending?”
“Master Carrel said it himself, so it must be true.”
Queenie, who was playing with Caprice, turned to them curiously. “Brother, Julie, who’s that mysterious person? What did he do to help the Sagers?”
Julie smiled. “The Sagers have been trying to change their image for several years, but the outcome was not ideal. They almost wasted all their savings before a mysterious person who appeared out of nowhere helped them. The person’s idea was to revive their nightclub business, which they never took seriously. It grew big and swiftly expanded into a chain of more than a dozen outlets in Coastrock and its neighboring cities in just six months.
“Not only did it help the Sagers overcome their bankruptcy crisis but it even helped them expand into other fields. He’s the reason why the Sagers were able to return to their peak in just two years.”
Chapter 1444
Chapter 1444 Queenie’s eyes lit up. “He’s that awesome?!”
“Indeed.”Even Julie showed a hint of admiration on her face. “Without this person, the Sagers would not have regained their former glory. Even Young Master Sager became his student. But the Sagers were afraid of their rivals scouting him, so his existence is kept a secret. Other than the Sagers themselves, almost no one has seen this person before.”
Queenie asked out of curiosity, “Then, why is he coming to Glenchester with Young Master Sager?”
“Glenchester is famous for its tourism industry. Both the tourism and entertainment industries are considered the best in the country. | believe the Sagers want to expand their reach in the entertainment industry as well, so they sent him and Young Master Sager here to learn from us. But | have a hunch that they want to work with John even more.” Julie then looked at John. John curled his lips. “You’ve analyzed it quite well.” Julie smiled at the praise she got from John.
Queenie complimented, “Julie, you’re awesome! You handle everything at home perfectly and even know all of this?” Madam Stockton, who held Caprice in her arms, joined the conversation. “Then, you should learn more from Julie.”
Queenie pouted. “It’s not like it’s something | can pick up in an instant.” Julie smiled. “Queenie, don’t take it that way. | learned from John as well. If you spend a little more effort in learning, you’ll be able to do it as well.”
“Julie, the outlets Brother assigned you have been doing great in the past few years. It’s not about learning, it’s about talent. You don’t need to console me. I’m just not talented enough.”
Julie smiled. “Don’t be like that. I’m still learning as well.”
Madam Stockton looked at Queenie. “That’s enough, Julie. You don’t need to be humble with this girl here. You’re talented in running businesses, in fact, a lot better than Queenie is.”
Julie awkwardly pursed her lips. “Mother, please don’t say that to Queenie.”
She then looked at John. “John?” John smiled. “You ran the outlets | gave you nicely. | am planning to hand you a bigger outlet, and you can expand what you learned from there.”
With John’s praise, Julie’s expression brightened. She smiled and said, “I know, John. I’ll do my best.”
Then, Madam Stockton said, “John, why don’t you bring Julie along to the business guild event later? Give her the chance to meet more people in the industry.” Julie’s eyes gleamed. John nodded. “Sure. Why not?” Julie’s smile widened.
Madam Stockton added, “Queenie, you should go with
Julie as well. If you have your eyes on some handsome young man, remember to tell Julie about it.” Queenie’s expression changed. “No. I’m not going. | want to stay at home and play with Caprice.” Madam Stockton glared at her. “I’m here to take care of Caprice. You should go with John and Julie!” “No! | don’t want to go!” Queenie insisted.
Madam Stockton sighed.
Julie tried to ease the little bickering between the mother and daughter.
John then called Caprice to his side and brought her into the room.
The weather was unforgivingly cold, and the event later at night would be filled with people from different industries. He did not want to put Caprice under too much spotlight, so he had to leave her at home.
He told Caprice to listen to Aunt Wanda and her grandmother and not to wander away alone.
The girl nodded obediently.
Half an hour before the event started, John finally put Caprice in Madam Stockton and Aunt Wanda’s care. He grabbed his jacket and headed to the car outside the house.
When the bodyguard opened the door for him, he got in. “John.”
Awoman’s gentle voice came from the side.
Chapter 1445 John saw Julie beside him.
She wore a slim violet dress coupled with a white linen shawl. Her wavy hair, which complimented her delicate /makeup, was draped on her shoulders.
The moment John landed his gaze on her, she was smiling gently at him. John’s heart skipped a beat. 2
It was his first time seeing her dressed up this beautifully. She was much more eye-catching compared to her usual quiet demeanor, and she also had a stronger aura compared to what she wore during the previous event. She highly resembled a professional lady who held high authority in a company.
Amoment later, he smiled. “You look great today.”
Julie smiled and said mischievously, “I’m attending the event with you, after all. | can’t just embarrass you in public.” John simply chuckled.
Julie noticed his faint smile, and she, too, curled her lips. even wider.
The car drove off.
John’s eyes were glued to the front with an expressionless face.
Julie subtly sized him up.
He wore a full black suit to the event. Although it granted him an extra layer of frostiness, he looked as handsome as ever with his fair skin. In addition to his elegant posture, he looked like a prince from a fairytale, bearing a royal demeanor.
The tie around his neck was violet, which was the same color as her dress. When they arrived at the event and got out of the car, they ought to turn heads and people would think they were a couple. Julie came from a prestigious background. Not only did
Madam Carter and Queenie praise her business talents, but many others also shared the same recognition for her as well. They even said she would help John bring the
Stockton Corporation to new heights in the future.
That filthy woman was not even worthy to carry her heels.
The man beside her must believe that she was a hundred
times better than that filthy woman.
Meanwhile, a crimson red sports car sprinted towards the event venue.
Inside the car was Carl wearing a black shirt with his medium-short hair tucked neatly behind his ears. The button around his chest was left undone, exposing his fair chest.
He also had a red jacket to go with the black shirt. There was even a freshly plucked rose pinned to his collar.
His already charming facial features were set off by the fiery red and elegant black combination. It was as though he was a living elf.
Beside him was Sherry. Her black hair was tied behind her ears, exposing her fair face. Her narrow brows, her charming eyes, her tall nose, and her luscious lips, all combined together to present an astonishing beautiful lady.
She wore a red bandeau dress with a trumpet train and a bunch of red petals covering her chest. At first glance, the dress looked overly vibrant, but it complemented her
feminine charms and formed a perfect balance for her image.
She looked outside the window with an expressionless face.
Carl glanced at her and he asked annoyedly, “Sherry, why are you looking outside? I’m more handsome than the scenery.” Sherry simply hummed a reply.
Carl choked on her reply. He chuckled and continued, (( Are you afraid?”
Sherry looked at him. “What am | afraid of?”
Carl narrowed his eyes at her. “You’re afraid that I’ll snatch all the spotlight from you later for being too handsome.”
Sherry rolled her eyes at him.
