“Sir, Madam,” the butler said once they entered the house, “the Old Master is outside in the backyard, reading the newspaper under the gazebo.”
Mr. Lafayette nodded. “I’ll see him shortly. First, sort these gifts by category. Then take one of each and send them to my brothers’ and sisters’ homes.”
The butler chuckled. “Why did you bring back so much this time?”
Mr. Lafayette smiled proudly. “We hardly bought anything. Just a few local treats. The rest are from my future in-laws. They were thoughtful enough to prepare gifts for every single branch of our family.”
The York family’s gesture had deeply impressed him. They had not only counted every sibling, but also every niece and nephew, ensuring no one was overlooked.
