The old man lightly tapped his granddaughter’s forehead.
“You don’t need to send a gift,” he said. “Have the butler make some nourishing soup and deliver it to River. Thoughtfulness in daily life matters more than any present.”
Romina thought for a moment. “I’ll try that another day. Grandpa, it’s late—let me help you back to your room to rest.”
The old man nodded.
As she guided him down the hall, she said, “Grandpa, for things like this in the future, just call me directly. No need to wait so long.”
“This isn’t a small matter,” he replied. “It’s a major event in your life. Now that you and your brother have both settled down, I can finally relax. Your cousins are easier to manage—some already found their own partners, so I don’t have to intervene. But you and your brother? You’re both stubborn. You’re still single, and now your cousins feel no urgency to marry either.”
One of Grandpa Lafond’s grandsons had been dating the same girl for five years without proposing. When the old man urged him, the young man simply said, “My elder brother Donovan and sister Romina are still single. Why should I rush?”
It drove Grandpa Lafond crazy. He’d been doing everything possible to push his two most hardheaded grandchildren along. His son and daughter-in-law weren’t much help—they were too busy planning their retirement.
