Simon appeared disgruntled, yet he still showed respect to the guests. He nodded in acknowledgment.
“I’m sorry, Simon.” Graham spoke up. “Sophia was living abroad and is not very proficient in the language. She might have used the wrong words unintentionally.”
Simon expressed his concern, “Si, I’ve watched you grow. You’ve never disappointed your parents. How did you—”
Graham interrupted, “Alright, Simon. I’ll handle it. You should take a rest.”
Simon could only exit the room.
Just as Sophia was about to voice her complaint, Graham looked at her sternly. “Simon is the longest-serving butler in this house, the one my dad trusts the most. You shouldn’t have spoken to him like that.” Sophia retorted, “Are you blaming me now?” She looked pitiful and burst into tears. “I knew you’d eventually side with your parents and exclude me and our son! We’re not welcome in this house. I’m leaving with James!”
