“Malachy Vane lied to you,” Gwendolyn said suddenly. “He told you Magnus Storme was True Immortal Realm Level Six. He was actually Level Seven.”
“I know.” Jared nodded. “That old fox was playing games from the start. Sending me to kill Magnus Storme wasn’t just about revenge—he wanted to test me.”
“Then why agree?”
“Because I needed the Reincarnation Core,” Jared said. “Whatever he was planning, once Magnus Storme was dead, he’d have no excuse to go back on his word. And if he does…” He gave a faint smile. “I don’t mind killing one more.”
Gwendolyn didn’t reply. She just looked at him.
Sometimes, it was hard to look at this man without a chill creeping in.
Most of the time, he seemed gentle. He stood by his friends, and when he saw the weak being crushed, he never turned away.
