Those who triggered a green glow were escorted to the most remote, lesser halls. Their faces fell, their steps dragging, as if whatever hope they had left had just been stripped away.
Those who produced a purple glow were guided toward the mid-sized halls. Relief showed on their faces, like they had managed to grab onto something that might still save them.
And every so often, when a golden light appeared, a ripple of commotion spread across the square.
Even a Basilica Elder would step out in person, treating that individual like an honored guest and escorting them into the inner precincts under the weight of everyone else’s envy.
