To leave the house, Nicholas had to pass through the living room, unavoidably walking past Robert and Wren.

“Why are you leaving so soon after just arriving?” Wren asked when he saw that Nicholas was about to leave.

Nicholas made a half-hearted hum in response.

Wren frowned. “Stay for dinner.”

Nicholas did not accept the invitation, walking right past Wren as if he hadn’t heard him.
