“Now that you’re awake, get out,” she snapped.

Pain radiated through Magnus’ limbs at the mere thought of moving. Leave? To what? The streets? The cold?

“What’s your name?” Magnus asked, deliberately ignoring her dismissal.

The woman sighed. “Denise Laney.”

Denise?

“I’m Magnus,” he replied. “Just so you know, my family has money. More than enough. Shelter me now, and I’ll repay you generously when I return home.”
