“Brother…?” Asher recalled Hugh, who had perished in a plane crash. A sharp, excruciating ache surged through his heart.

“Even if he truly is my brother, he has allied himself with the devil and willingly committed evil deeds. Between him and me, there is nothing left to salvage!”

As his words fell, so did his hand, bringing the blade down with it.

“Ash! Don’t!” Justin cried out.

In the next instant, Jace caught the blade with his bare hand, gripping it tightly as blood dripped to the ground.

Asher felt his heart twist in agony. He cherished his family above all else, and now, he found himself committing an unspeakable sin, having to raise his blade against his own kin.

“I’m not here to stop you,” Jace said, his breathing labored. His piercing gaze locked onto Asher’s reddened eyes. In a voice only the two of them could hear, he whispered, “But I must stop you. It’s my mission.”
