Chapter 6276
Chapter 6276
There was no doubt that the heads of Japan’s Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology were seething with anger at that moment.
However, anger would not resolve any issues for them, particularly when it was directed at the United States.
Thus, when faced with the unreasonable demands of the US military leadership, they found themselves lacking the courage to argue back.
After all, this situation wasn’t solely the fault of the United States. They had indeed deployed troops under the pretense of assisting Japan. If something were to go wrong now, Japan could not simply ignore the implications.
Yet, the two sides couldn’t agree on how much responsibility Japan should bear.
Japan likened the situation to two reckless drivers colliding both were at fault, and it was unreasonable for either party to assume full responsibility. It was evident that the US military’s commandos had mistreated their scientific expedition members. Had this misconduct not come to light, they would have been willing to overlook it. But now that it was exposed, how could they ask the public to remain silent?
Therefore, the head of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology summoned his courage and stated, “Sir, you cannot place the entire blame on us, especially regarding the mistreatment of our scientific expedition team. If we are to be held accountable, how can we justify it to the other expedition members and scientists? We are just employees of the Ministry and not military personnel. Even if issues arise, they should be addressed through normal civil procedures. If we are known for resorting to force or seeking foreign intervention, how can we maintain our reputation going forward?”
