Thea’s question instantly drew the attention of the other gods.

James smiled helplessly. “You still don’t understand what the Conferred God really is?”

The gods were stunned into silence.

“The Conferred God,” James explained patiently, “is the act of granting a title to a living being who does not possess godhood, but already has the power and moral authority of a god.”

He continued calmly, “The gods in Zymurgy already possess godhood. Why would they need to be conferred again?”

“As for the Five Great Ones,” James added, “they are the foundation of the Haleth Realm and long ago surpassed godhood. I’m not even qualified to confer titles on them.”
