“Are you sure?” Faluel’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Why would a Griffon ally himself with a loser like Narchat?”
“The same reason a Bastet would,” Ghirslak replied. “There was also a true Divine Beast from Verendi. I’m certain, because I tasted their blood.”
“So did I.” Ufyl nodded. “The Upyr who beat me was a Storm Griffon. I know not just from the taste of his blood, but from his Light Mastery and his use of Life Maelstrom.”
“That explains everything.” Zoreth fell into thought.
Damn it. There’s only one reason my Dragon Eyes failed to recognize his Light Mastery while Ufyl’s didn’t, she thought. Nelia’s spells must be outdated. She’s not going to like this at all.
“It’s possible, sure—but not likely.” Erghak, the Patriarch of the Fire Dragons, hissed. “I’ve never heard of a renegade Griffon. I can’t speak for the Bastet, but if one of Tyris’ children went rogue, the entire world would—” He stopped short, recalling a rumor from months ago. “Jorl.”
