With the battle over, it took the Association mages only seconds to extinguish the fires and mere minutes to rescue those trapped beneath the rubble of collapsed buildings.

Most Lutians trampled by the Upyrs had died in the opening moments of the attack, but a handful of people were still alive.

When the mages and the Awakened pulled the survivors from the ruins of their shattered homes, the relief didn’t last. Many had lost their families—parents, children, neighbors, friends. Nearly everyone they loved was gone.

The walls of Lutia’s surviving buildings were slick with blood, and the roads were carpeted with corpses. The stench of burned flesh hung heavy in the air, coating the survivors’ tongues with a greasy taste that reeked of death.

Some people fainted. Others vomited until there was nothing left. Most simply cried, unable to find words for the pain of losing everything—and almost everyone—that had given their lives meaning.

Salaark answered Lith’s call first, returning from her hunt and securing his family’s safety. Once she conjured a fake home to replace the tower, Lith and Solus returned to Lutia.
