Chapter 991
The children played on the bed for a while and started to yawn. Not long later, they slowly drifted off to sleep.
Anne slept beside them and when she woke up, she realized that she was sleeping in Anthony’s arms, and her children were nowhere to be found.
She did not know when he had returned and thought that he was asleep, so she tried to break free of his arms around her, only to realize that he was tightening his hold.
“Stop moving.”
“I’m done sleeping.
“I told you not to sleep with the kids. This is your punishment.” Anthony was indeed asleep, but woke up as soon as Anne started moving.
Anne did not respond and was confused as to why he cared about whether she slept with her children.
“What are you thinking?” He lifted her chin to stare into her eyes.
The two looked at one another and the moment seemed to remain frozen.
Anne’s mind went blank, so she simply shook her head wordlessly.
His shadow loomed over her as he moved to press his lips against hers, taking her breath away. She shoved him away and buried her head into his chest, panting.
Anthony pressed his body closer and kissed her on the cheek, before nibbling her ears.
She shivered and curled up against him as she sensed the lust in his eyes.
Anthony’s phone suddenly started to vibrate and she instantly tensed, feeling as though someone else was interrupting them on purpose.
Anthony reached out to push his phone off the nightstand. The phone fell and continued to vibrate on the carpet, but the noise was not as loud as it was on the nightstand.
Reluctant to continue, Anne turned her face away from him. “I…I want to use the bathroom…”
“You can relieve yourself here on the bed.”
“…” Anne could not believe what she had just heard and shoved him away. “Let me go…”
Right before the moment she closed the bathroom door, she could still hear his phone vibrating.
She shut the door behind her, not wanting to hear what Anthony might say when he answered the phone. Despite her effort in ignoring the reality, the pain in her heart persisted.
‘Should I really push him away?‘ She thought. ‘What if he goes to Bianca because of this?‘
She opened the bathroom door and noticed that Anthony was gone. Anne collapsed onto the ground near the bed and wrapped her arms around her knees as she sobbed helplessly.
‘He’s gone to Bianca again,‘ she thought. ‘When will he come back to me? Tonight? Tomorrow morning? What should I do?‘
“Anne?”
Anne jolted in shock and turned around to find Anthony standing before her, her tears stopping at the sight.
Anthony narrowed his eyes sharply before carrying her up to the bed. “Do you feel sick?”
Realizing that Anthony had not left, she threw herself into his arms, trembling.
Anthony could sense that she was crying from the wet sensation on his shirt.
“Did I hurt you just now?”
Kathryn had mentioned that after having two miscarriages, along with the impact of the car accident, Anne’s uterus was still recovering from the injury and it would be best for them to refrain from being intimate until three months later.
With her in his arms in such proximity, he had not been able to hold back.
“No…” She said with a muffled voice.
He cupped her cheeks with his hands and whispered gently, “So why are you crying?”
Anne did not know how to explain that she was crying because she thought he had left.
He glanced down at her hands on his shirt and turned his attention to the insecure expression on her face, before guessing, “You are scared that I would leave?”
Chapter 992
Anne turned away and bit her lip wordlessly. Before long, she heard Anthony chuckling. She shot him a confused look and muttered, “Don’t…don’t laugh at me.”
“I’m not laughing.”
“You are.”
“Did you see it?” He teased.
“I heard you…” Anne said. She was unsure as Anthony was never one to show emotions, so he rarely smiled at her.
Anthony wiped her tears away; her face was hardly even the size of his palm and the realization struck him.
“I didn’t leave. I just went to get you food.”
Anne turned to look at the nightstand and spotted a bowl. If she guessed correctly, it was probably a bowl of soup.
At noon, apart from desserts, she would always be made to drink beauty collagen drinks.
“Any sugar in it?” She whispered.
He grabbed the bowl and fed her a spoonful. “Try it.”
She accepted it and tasted a hint of sweetness. “They put sugar in it.”
“Really? Let me try.”
Anne had thought that he meant that he wanted to try the drink, and was shocked when he devoured her lips instead.
He let her go shortly after and licked his lips. “Indeed, there’s sugar in this.”
She looked away with a blush, before glancing back at him. She was certain that he was laughing at her because of how horrendous she looked earlier.
Feeling increasingly irritated, she punched him on the chest. “You are so mean. I don’t want to talk to you anymore…”
“Who do you want to talk to, then?” He grabbed her hand and asked.
“I’m not telling you.” She pouted with a dark expression on her face. “Who…was it that called you just now?”
“Oliver.”
“Do you need to go back to work?”
“It can wait until tomorrow.”
When Anthony left the room, she could not help but pay attention to his phone on the nightstand.
She knew that she should not invade his privacy, but reached for it regardless. Since there was no password for the phone, she found the contact record easily and saw the name ‘Bianca‘ in the most recent call record.
Her heart sank at the realization that Anthony had lied to her.
‘So I don’t even deserve the truth if he doesn’t love me…‘ She thought.
The next morning, Anthony stayed home and did not go to the Archduke Group until after lunch.
After waking up from her afternoon nap with the children, Anne woke up and sat on the balcony blankly.
Whenever Anthony left her, she would assume that he was with Bianca and felt alone at home.
Devastated, she decided to go outside for a walk. Perhaps she would be able to take her mind off of the imagination of how Anthony and Bianca were doing.
She headed to the residential area she lived in before alone.
Peace had been resumed as though nothing had ever happened. She opened the door to her apartment and all the mess had been cleaned up.
Just as she wondered who had cleaned her apartment, her phone started ringing and she spotted the name ‘Ashlynn on the screen of her phone.
She had seen this name on her contact list before, and though she had never talked to Ashlynn, she knew who Ashlynn was from Ken.
“Hello?”
“Anne, it’s Ashlynn. Are you home?”
“I’m at…at my aunt’s place,” Anne said.
“Is it okay if we go over now?”
“Sure.” Anne provided her address and hung up.
She was not certain about what kind of person Ashlynn was. All she knew was that Ashlynn was once her assistant and became her uncle’s wife afterward, so Anne assumed that Ashlynn should be a great person.
‘Did she say ‘we‘? Who else is coming over?‘ Anne thought.
She got up to see if there were any snacks she could serve her guests and contemplated whether she should take them to the Royal Mansion.
Since she could not find anything, Anne decided to go downstairs.
Marco happened to be in the same area and was taking a walk to look for any sign of Lilian. After all, she could still be alive even though she fell into the Noxus River.
He soon spotted Anne standing by a building, waiting for someone. He was about to walk over when he saw a familiar–looking Bently driving toward Anne.
As soon as he had a clear look at the car plate, Marco’s expression darkened and he immediately hid under the shadows.

Chapter 994
The dark look on Corentin’s face remained despite her explanation, as he was certain that she would be pregnant in no time without taking any concentrative measures.
“Salvatore, can you get someone to buy some sanitary pads for me? I didn’t bring any with me,” Ashlynn asked gingerly.
He turned around to leave and as soon as she heard the door closing, Ashlynn immediately closed the glass door.
She had to ensure that Corentin was unaware of her taking contraceptive pills in secret.
She had bought two types of pills for precautions and though the ones she kept in the vitamin jar was found, she still had pills hidden in her closet.
Corentin had not expected for her to have spares and had she not been prepared, she would have gotten pregnant from Corentin’s relentless attempts.
She had no choice in getting pregnant the first time, but she could stop herself from getting pregnant the second time.
Corentin was not an ordinary man and she refused to give birth to his child as it would only be a tragedy on its own.
The glass door opened and a black plastic bag was thrown toward her.
By the time she looked up, Corentin had already left. She opened the bag and found all sorts of sanitary pads.
She walked out of the bathroom and found Corentin sitting on the couch with his legs crossed while he played with his phone.
“You bought these for me?” She sat down by the bed and asked.
“It’s not like I haven’t done it before,” he muttered darkly.
Ashlynn remembered that back when she was seeing Salvatore, he had indeed helped to buy sanitary products for her.
At the time, he snuck out at night to the market as though he was about to rob the shop.
Remaining expressionless, she stopped herself from thinking back to the past. Ever since she had closed her heart to this man, all the sweet memories of the past simply felt like a burden.
They had planned to join Anthony for dinner and as
Ashlynn was suffering from menstrual pain, she could hardly walk out of the door, not to mention sitting down in a restaurant for hours.
In the end, they delayed the dinner plan.
Anthony did not ask any questions, but Anne did call to check on them and was told that Ashlynn had severe menstrual pain.
Anne had experienced it before, but it had improved after she had given birth.
The next day, Anne headed to the office as she decided that it would be best for her to talk to Corentin in person about their collaboration since he was in Luton.
The construction of the factory was coming to an end and they needed Corentin’s approval to confirm when they could import the equipment.
She had mostly stayed out of the operation of her company since she lost her memories, but since Corentin was here, she could not simply leave all the negotiations to Xander and the others.
Even though Corentin was her uncle by blood, business was business.
Anne got out of Anthony’s Rolls Loyce and headed into the building. Just as she was about to press on the elevator button, she heard a voice.
“Ms. Anne Vallois.”
She turned around and saw Marco, who was responsible for investigating Dorothy’s death.Worried that she was still being suspected, Anne instantly tensed.
“I thought that the investigation on me is done?”
“Don’t get nervous. I’m not here over what happened the last time. Can we talk in your office?” Marco asked.
Having no reasons to refuse, she went into the elevator with him and the elevator began to ascend.
Once she invited him into her office, she ordered her assistant to serve Marco tea.
The two sat down and Marco proceeded to ask, “There had been a murder in Luton before. It’s a case where a couple had been murdered in a motel. Are you aware of this case, Ms. Vallois?”
Chapter 995
“I don’t know anything about that,” Anne said.
“According to my understanding, one of my colleagues had been to Mr. Marwood’s place because the suspect, Corentin Lloyd, was there. My colleague didn’t manage to find anything, though.”
Anne was not aware of it. “My uncle is a suspect?”
“Corentin is your uncle?” Marco narrowed his eyes thoughtfully.
“Yeah. My uncle won’t do such a thing.”
‘You don’t know the first thing about your uncle. There are plenty of dirty secrets he is hiding,‘ Marco thought.
“Both victims had a conflict with Corentin before and they were found in the motel shortly after said conflict, their hearts and kidneys missing.”
“That doesn’t mean that my uncle did it, right?”
“This is just a routine check.”
Anne accepted the explanation.
“I remember that you said you lost your memories, is that right?” Marco asked.
“Yeah, from the car accident. I still haven’t gotten my memories back.”
Marco took out his name card. “If you remember anything, please give me a call. I won’t take any more of your time.” With that, he left the office.
Anne held onto the name card thoughtfully, doubting if anything she remembered would be against her uncle. In what little she remembered, Corentin was a gentleman and the conflict he had with the couple was likely a coincidence.
Marco waited for the elevator and when the door opened, his expression darkened when he saw the man who walked out.
Corentin walked right past him, but stopped after taking two steps ahead, before turning around. “Inspector York? Are you here for me?”
Without waiting for Marco’s response, he turned to leave.
Corentin’s arrogance left Marco clenching his fists in fury.
‘Some day, I’m going to be the one who arrests you!‘ Marco thought to himself.
Corentin entered Anne’s office and spotted the name card on the coffee table when he sat down. His expression darkened and he asked, “Did the police come by?”
“An officer came and asked a few things…” She said hesitantly.
“About me?”
“How do you know?”
“I ran into an officer on my way here.”
She sat down and asked, “Do you know about the couple that were murdered in a motel?”
“I do, but I’ll say this right now…I have nothing to do with it.”
“I said the same thing, too, but the officer asked me to call him if I remember anything,” she said.
“It’s our duty as citizens to cooperate, I suppose, “he said, before proceeding to discuss work with Anne.
Corentin had come to visit Anne and also to work.
Anne called Xander and Ken into her office and the group discussed the detailed dates when the equipment and technicians to operate them would be imported in as the factories would need to be prepared.
After an hour of discussion, Corentin left, refusing Anne’s invitation for a meal together.
She walked him out of the office. “Are you going straight back to the hotel?”
“Yeah. I’ll drop back in later in the afternoon.” Corentin needed to see if Ashlynn was feeling any better. “I need to say hi to Anthony, anyway. Just because you lost your memories, don’t be a stranger. Call me whenever you want, even if you just want to talk.”
“I will.” Though Anne could not remember the past, could sense that her uncle cared for her deeply and decided that they could share a meal next time.
“About that Marco guy, if he comes to you again, just send him away and ignore him,” Corentin said.
she
“I’m fine. The worst he can do is just ask a few questions. “Anne thought that Corentin’s advice was for her own good.
Corentin narrowed his eyes darkly and entered the elevator without another word.
