Chapter 1226
“Can you come back already?” asked Anthony.
“I… want to see Mama!” Chloe plucked up her courage.
“You will see her when you return.”
Chloe asked, “Then can you put Mama on the phone?”
Anthony opened the door and handed the phone to Anne.
Anne did not know who was on the other end of the call. She did not even know when Anthony came over. She thought he had left and would no longer be coming back…
“Hello?”
“Mama!”
“Chloe?” Anne was surprised. “Where are you now?”
“I’m in the mountains! Mama, where are you? I miss you so much. I don’t want to go home if I can’t see you!”
“What do you mean you don’t want to go home? Are you not at home now? Why would you be up in the mountains?” Anne asked while pretending to have no clue.
“I…ran away from home!”
“Who’s with you now? Are you safe?”
“I’m extremely safe. I’m together with Mr. Walker. Mama, don’t worry. I’ll go find you when I return!”
Anne only knew that Chloe was missing, so who was Mr. Walker then?
Just as she was confused, the phone was taken away from her.
Anthony put the phone next to his ear. “Have you heard that?”
“I heard it.” Chloe pouted her little lips, and she was feeling much better.
“Where are you now? I’ll go pick you up!”
Chloe glanced at John. “I’ll return on my own!” She hung up the call upon saying that.
Anthony’s expression looked terribly darkened.
Anne hurriedly asked, “What did Chloe say? Are you going to pick her up now?”
“No need.” Anthony’s black eyes were sharp and cold.
“When did Chloe run away from home?” Anne asked, “Is it because of me?
Anthony glanced at her coldly without saying anything, then he turned around and went to the bathroom.
Anne felt relieved. Of course, she knew the reason. She was just pretending to not have a clue.
Fortunately, her child was fine. However, why was he not going to pick her up?
“Mr. Walker, let’s go to your place to play!” Chloe found Mama, so she was no longer in a hurry to return any more. She felt that her current situation was very good. She has a stranger to play with her!
“Why should we go to my place?”
“Don’t you miss your son?” asked Chloe, then she tugged his clothes with her small hands. “I’m here. Don’t worry!”
John, of course, was missing his family. Otherwise, he would not have shown his true feelings as they sat by the hill.

John hid near the entrance of the residential area where his apartment was located. He hid in the bush to observe the movements in the surroundings.
Chloe felt it was very fun and she chuckled while covering her mouth.
Seeing there were no suspicious people around, John led Chloe toward the
residential area.
He kept behaving in a sneaky manner after they entered the residential area and all the way until they got to the bottom of the building that he was living in.
When they were climbing up the stairs, Chloe was having a tough time because of her short legs, so John directly carried her in his arms.
When they got to one of the apartments on the third floor, John took out his keys to open the door.
At that moment, his child should already be asleep.
After he entered the door, he saw that the lights in the apartment were on but he did not see anybody.
John went to the room and saw as soon as he opened the door that his wife and son were tied up and sitting on the floor. They shouted when they saw him but their voices were muffled.
“Dear! My son!” John immediately went up to them. “Who did this?”
Not only was Chloe, who was following behind him, not afraid, but she even stared inside the room curiously with her eyes widened. Then, she was suddenly picked up from behind.
She turned her head around and was instantly shocked. “Papa!”
John turned his head around, and when he saw Anthony, who looked like a messenger from hell, appearing at the door, he was so frightened that he dropped to the floor.
He knew he was a goner!
He frantically crawled toward Anthony and kneel before him. “Mr. Marwood…I had no other choice. I have a family. I have a wife and a son. Without a job, I will have no money. I was desperate, so I could only take this as my last resort! I hope you can spare my life!”
“You had no choice? You were desperate ?” Anthony looked at him from up above and his oppressiveness was terrifying.
“Yes… That’s right!” John directly prostrated himself.
“If I were to chop off your hands and feet now, which scenario do you think you would really be in desperation?” asked Anthony cruelly.
John was so frightened that his soul left his body.
However, when he thought about it carefully, only that would be truly hopeless!
He pressed his head against the floor and did not get up.
He had made a mistake. He was outrageously wrong.
“Papa, let’s go home, alright?” Chloe asked.
Anthony did not look at the person on the floor, turned around, and left.

Anthony did not come over, so Anne could not fall asleep and she kept waiting.
Anthony did not say anything after he picked up the phone, and then he left.
Was he going to pick Chloe up?
Anne hoped that she could be certain that Chloe was safe.
She paced around the living room. When she finally could not hold it in anymore and wanted to give him a call, the sound of the door unlocking could be heard, and she hurried over.
When she saw Anthony coming in, she asked, “Has Chloe returned?”
“She’s at the Royal Mansion.”
Only then did Anne feel relieved. Then, she asked, “Can I go to the Royal Mansion to see the children?”
“That can wait.”
“How long am I supposed to wait?” Anne clearly was annoyed and angry.
Anthony stared at her with his black eyes and the silent pressure made Anne retreat.
Just when she lowered her head and gaze, Anthony came up to her and his shadow towered over her. “You can go out when you’ve met the standard.”
Anne did not know what his standard was.

Anne felt that every second was like a year long. The time at night, in particular, felt like a century to her…

She leaned against the couch while sitting in the living room and hugging a pillow.

Anne did not understand why Lucas was standing there without moving. When the sound of the door opening could be heard, she ran toward the balcony as she wanted to push Lucas and make him leave quickly.
However, when she saw a few bodyguards standing on the balcony next door, her body instantly stiffened and her face turned as white as a sheet.
The bodyguards were Anthony’s men, and they were keeping the steel plate that was connecting the two railings and putting it aside.

Anne was so frightened that her body trembled severely. “It’s time for bed.”
“That can wait. There’s still plenty of time before sunrise.”
When Anne woke up, it was already past noon.
There was no sign of Anthony beside her.
She touched the place next to her and did not feel any trace of warmth on it. She did
not know when he left, but it certainly had been a long time.
It was already so late, after all.
Anne got out of bed with exhaustion, walked out of the room, and saw an insulated food container on the dining table.
She knew it was Kathryn who placed it there.
Anne put all of her attention on the main entrance. She walked over and stood in front of the door.
She lifted her nervous hand and turned the door knob. The door was not locked from the outside and it was opened immediately.
A click was heard and Anne’s body shuddered along with the sound.
The door opened!
Joy instantly came all over her. She was finally able to walk out of there!
She felt tears welling in her eyes and were almost about to stream down!
She pulled the door open, walked out of there, and stood in the corridor to taste the feeling of getting out of a cage.
