Ch. 406: Mr. Edwards’ Unraveled Life Chapter 406
Chapter 406
Julissa clung to Norah, desperation in her grip. “Ms. White, you’ve seen what’s happening. If you go back, you’re walking straight into death!”
Norah shook her head. “I can’t leave Karina behind.”
Karina had come with her, and Karina had protected her. There was no way she could just abandon her and move forward alone. If she did, what kind of person would that make her?
But Julissa and the woman held her firmly, refusing to let go.
“When Miss Karina found me, she knew the risks,” Julissa said urgently. “She gave me a lot of money and said you’d give me even more as long as I stayed by your side. She said she could die, but you couldn’t. Have you forgotten why you came here, Ms. White?”
The woman, unable to communicate with Norah due to the language barrier, could only strain against her, her grip like iron.
Norah hadn’t forgotten her mission—she had come to find Steven and Kevin. She had already spoken to Kevin and confirmed his safety, but she still hadn’t reached Steven. He was her priority now.
But the problem was—Karina was still out there.
Seeing Norah’s determination, ready to rush back despite the danger, Julissa acted quickly. She knocked Norah unconscious.
Then, with the woman’s help, she carried Norah down the stairs in a hurry, slipping out through the back door before anyone could catch up.
They flagged down a car.
The woman, a local of the Yi tribe, quickly rattled off an address to the driver. Julissa, who understood her, heard the urgency in her voice.
“Hurry! Hurry!” the woman kept shouting.
Meanwhile, Karina
Karina had arranged an escape route for Norah, knowing that Julissa would always stay by her side. The woman, too, had proven to be a reliable ally. With two people looking out for Norah, she would be safer.
And at the critical moment, Norah had been taken away—out of harm’s reach.
Karina, however, felt lightheaded. A sharp, metallic scent filled her nose—blood.
As consciousness returned, she instinctively tried to get up, but a heavy force pressed down on her back, pinning her to the ground. She couldn’t move. Before she could react, rough hands seized her, flipping her over.
She looked up.
A dozen men stood over her, their weapons gleaming in the dim light.
One of them held up a photo, compared it to her face, then gave an order. “Why are you alone? Where’s Norah? If you tell us where she is, the young lady will reward you handsomely. Pharaoh’s bounty is separate.”
The man wore a mask, obscuring his face.
But Karina was more curious about this “young lady” he mentioned. “Who is she? I want to meet her.”
The man didn’t answer. Instead, he made a sharp gesture. “Take her away.”
They yanked Karina to her feet.
The explosion had drained her strength, leaving her body weak and unsteady. Dragged along like a lifeless doll, she was completely at their mercy.
Along the way, she fought to stay awake.
If she closed her eyes now, she might never open them again.
She had no idea how much time had passed. From the moment they threw her into the car, it had been nothing but rough roads and endless jostling. Finally, the vehicle came to a stop.
Once again, she was pulled out, dragged forward.
After a few minutes, they came to a halt.
She was tossed into a dimly lit room.
Exhausted, she looked up. A woman stood before her, facing away.
Then the woman turned.
Her face was wrapped in layers of gauze, leaving only her piercing black-and-white eyes visible.
Yet something about her gaze felt strangely familiar.
Then, the woman spoke.
“Karina, don’t pretend you don’t know. Where is he?”
That voice!
Karina’s eyes turned icy. “It’s you! Bianca, what the hell are you doing here?”
Bianca?
Wasn’t she supposed to be under Captain Edwards’ control?
How was she here?
Bianca let out a light, bell-like laugh. “That doesn’t matter. What matters is that you tell me where Jace is. And Norah. I know you can reach her. Bring her to me, and I’ll forget everything Kevin has done.”
Her voice was dripping with superiority, as if she was in complete control.
Karina hated that look in her eyes. Her expression was unwavering. “If you’re expecting me to talk, you’re wasting your time.”
Bianca’s eyes darkened. “You killed Archer, proving you can be ruthless. But I can be worse. If you don’t tell me what I want to know, I’ll make sure you wish for death.”
She took slow, deliberate steps toward Karina, her gaze filled with malice.
Karina knew what was coming.
But she had made promises—one to Jace to protect Norah, and another to Kevin never to reveal Norah’s whereabouts.
A smirk curled on Karina’s lips. “Then go ahead. Kill me.”
Bianca’s expression hardened. She waved her hand dismissively. “Take her away. Do whatever it takes.”
Hard-mouthed?
Bianca wanted to see just how long Karina could keep that attitude.
Karina never begged.
But Bianca’s voice echoed in the darkness, promising something far worse than death.
Meanwhile, Norah
When Norah woke up, she was no longer in the restaurant.
She wasn’t anywhere near civilization.
All she could see were endless trees stretching in every direction.
She was leaning against one now, her body aching.
She had been separated from Karina.
Instinctively, she tried to get up, but pain shot through her. Before she could struggle further, Julissa rushed over.
“Don’t move! Just rest for now,” she urged. “Once we get somewhere with a signal, we’ll call for help to find Karina. If we can’t…”
She trailed off, sighing heavily.
It was a grim reality. In a place like this, life and death were everyday occurrences.
If Karina didn’t make it… there was nothing they could do.
Hearing that only made Norah’s chest tighten with pain. She pulled out her phone—no signal.
She couldn’t contact anyone.
She could still see those armed men in her mind, their ruthless sweep of the area.
Karina… she might already be…
The image of Karina shielding her flashed through her mind.
Then, suddenly, another memory surfaced.
A younger Norah, holding a frightened little girl in her arms, whispering softly as she patted her back.
“Karina, don’t be scared. Just stay hidden. Your sister will protect you.”
