“Lucy…” Cherise gently clasped Lucy’s hand, uncertain how to soothe her in that fragile moment. Cherise wasn’t Lucy; she was unable to fathom Lucy’s pain and grief and was not equipped to ease her from the emotional storm.

“Lucy…” Cherise paused. She flattened her lips before continuing cautiously, “You shouldn’t disregard your past efforts and feelings. Even if it was a mistake, Lennon hasn’t completely erased the past, has he? He vowed not to cause trouble to Colin in the future, didn’t he?”

Lucy stayed quiet, and her lips pressed together tightly. Her slender arm reached for another bottle of potent liquor, drinking from it hastily, causing tears and snot to stream down her face. Supporting her head on her hand, Lucy turned to Cherise, slightly dazed. “Do you know why he promised me not to bother Colin?” With a bitter smile, she rolled up her right sleeve, exposing a series of unsightly scars on her pale, slender arm.

Cherise was startled, swiftly pulling Lucy’s sleeve down and lowering her voice. “Didn’t Jacob introduce you to a talented plastic surgeon?”
