You’re Heartless

“Can’t I care for her as her friend? Should friends be as heartless as you? As both Lucy and Lennon’s friend, you’ve never really shown genuine concern when something unfortunate happened to them! You’re completely lacking in empathy!”

“I’m heartless?” Damien scoffed, smoothly pouring himself another cup of tea. “Then what does it mean not to be heartless? Should I criticize Lennon and Lucy’s past in front of Lennon? Is that how you show concern for Lucy? What right do you have to worry about Lucy? She’s so withdrawn and sad now after meeting Lennon today because of your so-called ‘concern’ for her.”

Colin was dumbstruck. His voice rose sharply, punctuated by a deep breath, as he fixed a fierce glare on Damien. “You’re just… strange! Both you and your friend! You’ve never treated Lucy like a friend or lover. It’s all business to you! You have no feelings!” With determined steps, he swung the café door open and stormed out.

Damien watched Colin’s retreating figure with a shrug, returning his attention to the tea before him. It seemed Colin had been protected too well by Dorothy. Despite being in his thirties, Colin often approached life with the innocence of a child. Damien shook his head in exasperation. It was tough for someone so naïve and innocent to endure so many harsh realities in such a short time.

When Cherise and Lucy arrived at the bar, Lucy wasted no time in ordering two bottles of strong liquor and slumping onto the counter. As soon as the drinks were served, Lucy seized one bottle and began drinking straight from it.

Witnessing Lucy’s bold consumption of alcohol, Cherise felt a mix of concern and distress. She vented her feelings to Mandy over the phone. ‘I want to kill Lennon!’
