Cherise pursed her lips, smiled and said, “Alright.”

Despite Damien’s clear warnings about Jude, Cherise couldn’t shake her reservations.

She had seen Jude’s tenderness firsthand, watching him care for Phoenix with a gentleness that seemed impossible to fake. A man so kind couldn’t be entirely wrong, could he?

They settled into a cozy café near the hospital. Jude took a sip of his coffee, then looked up with a hint of a smile. “You know,” he began, “my Mom adores Phoenix.”

As Jude looked at Cherise, his thoughts wandered back to when he fell in love with Phoenix.

“Jude,” she asked, her eyes searching his, “that girl… she’s your Phoenix, isn’t she?”
