Damien’s Friend

“I…” Colin’s voice trailed off, growing softer until it was nothing more than gentle, rhythmic breathing.

After a few moments, the woman in the bed quietly slipped out, carefully covering him with a blanket. She sighed softly, sounding a little amused.

“Didn’t you say you wanted to hear my story? In the end, it was me listening to yours.” She shook her head with a gentle smile. “How childish.”

The following day, Colin woke up on the floor and found himself covered with a dark blue blanket he hadn’t had the night before. When he stood up, he discovered his bedroom was impeccably neat. It was so clean that it didn’t feel like his room. A strange feeling washed over him.

Suddenly, his phone rang. It was Otto calling to remind him about the company meeting. Colin quickly grabbed a formal suit and rushed through his morning routine.

As he hurried downstairs, he saw Lucy in the dining room, smiling as she wiped the face of a small boy who looked about four or five years old.
