No Chance

“By the way, I never got around to asking because you lost your memory,” Lucy seemed to suddenly recall something and looked up at Cherise. “Can you finally tell me why you were so insistent on adopting this child in the first place? Just because you thought he was cute?”

Cherise’s heart skipped a beat. She hesitated, then pursed her lips. “Lucy, actually, this child…” At that moment, she felt there was no reason to keep it from Lucy any longer. Cherise pressed her lips together and rose from her seat. “Um, are you still not… willing to…”

“I want to steer clear of anything to do with him!” Lucy ground her teeth in frustration. “If he’s in Adania, I’ll leave Adania. I can’t bear to be in the same city as him! There’s no chance of reconciliation in this lifetime.” With those words, she grabbed her bag and hurried away in enormous strides.

Cherise remained rooted to the spot, watching Lucy’s departure in a daze. The determination in her heart began to waver. Should I really… divulge Alexis’s true background to Lucy?
