Marrying the Man in the Dark Chapter 1061-Getting to Gwenn Trent's eyes widened in alarm, his heart pounding in his chest. "You stalked me?! What do you want from me?"

"I don't want anything," Damien replied calmly, his smile unnervingly serene.

"I have people in your house currently enjoying some tea."

Trent's breath caught in his throat, a wave of panic washing over him at the thought of his loved ones being held hostage.

Damien's smile widened, though it still lacked warmth. "If you refuse to heed my words, then you'll never see them ever again."

Sebastian's patience wore thin as he waited for Trent at the hotel, the clock ticking relentlessly towards noon. No matter how many times he called Trent, Trent kept responding that he was on the way. Hearing his one-note answer, Sebastian's frustrations continued to simmer beneath a facade of calm.

Seated on the plush hotel sofa, Sebastian's gaze drifted lazily to the TV screen, where news of city traffic monopolized the airwaves. With a sigh, he dialed a number on his phone, his voice betraying a hint of irritation. "Have you arrived in Calais?"

  1061/1090  The woman's response on the other end of the line was laced with icy disdain. "I've told you, I can provide anything you desire. Why must you make it so troublesome for me to come to Calais?"

Sebastian's tone hardened, his patience wearing thin. "You've caused me considerable inconvenience. I want to see you face to face and deliver a welldeserved slap. Is that too much to ask?"

Sebastian's laughter rang out coldly, his voice devoid of any warmth. "Gwenn, do you recall the promises you made to me in the past?"

"You assured me that if I aided you, you would relay to me all the details I needed about Cherise, enabling me to successfully remove her from Damien's grasp."

"But what transpired instead?"

"You've brought me nothing but anguish and frustration."

There was a lengthy silence from the woman on the other end of the line.

Eventually, a smile tugged at the corners of her lips as she responded, her voice carrying a hint of amusement. "I've just touched down at the Calais airport. I'll be seeing you shortly, under an hour at most."

"Very well, I'll be waiting," Sebastian's eyes glinted under the dim lights.

Then, his brow furrowed as if struck by a sudden realization. "An hour might not suffice."

"Here's the arrangement: you book a room upon your arrival, and I'll seek you out once I'm finished," he instructed, his tone firm.

Gwenn's voice remained indifferent. "What exactly do you have in mind?"

Sebastian's lips curled into a bitter smirk. "Nothing grand. Since I couldn't lay my hands on Cherise, I'll have to find another woman to take out my frustrations on."

Gwenn's snicker carried a cold edge. "You're truly depraved."

"Very well, once you've concluded your task, come to me, and I'll make amends," she added.

Without waiting for Sebastian's acknowledgment, Gwenn abruptly terminated the call.

After the call ended, an assistant-like figure approached Gwenn, their expression curious. "Boss, with Sebastian out of the picture, there wasn't really a need for you to come here. We could have handled him discreetly without anyone being the wiser. Why bother with the trip to this obscure corner of Calais?"

Gwenn's gaze remained steady as she replied, "I didn't come here solely for Sebastian."

"You see, Damien is a vigilant individual. It's hard to believe he'd let Sebastian slip away so easily," she mused, her brow furrowing in thought.

"True," the assistant replied, "but despite Sebastian's cunning, his loss to Damien indicates he's not as astute."

"If Damien managed to outsmart him once, he can do it again," the assistant reasoned.

"Then why did Sebastian prevail this time?" Gwenn questioned, arching an eyebrow at the assistant.

A moment of silence followed as Gwenn let out a casual yawn. "It's easy to see," she continued.

"Damien's intention was merely to use Sebastian to locate me, nothing more."

Gwenn added with a lazy drawl, stifling a yawn, "Considering Damien's elaborate efforts, it would be rather insensitive of me not to grant him an audience, wouldn't it?"

The assistant's realization dawned abruptly. "So, boss, you're aware that it's a set-up, yet you're willingly walking into it?"

"Something to that effect," Gwenn confirmed, her demeanor unperturbed.

Gwenn let out another soft yawn before continuing, "Have you arranged for the helicopter as I requested?"

"Everything's arranged. After we've checked into the hotel, the helicopter will be ready and waiting on the rooftop," the assistant confirmed.

"Excellent," Gwenn murmured, rising from her seat with a faint smile. The sound of her heels echoed lightly against the floor as she declared, "Let's see Cherise and Damien and give them a proper greeting."

Marrying the Man in the Dark Chapter 1062 -Trent's Surrender At twelve ten precisely, a knock resounded on Sebastian's door."Mr. Weiss, my apologies for the delay," Trent greeted, his voice slightly breathless as he stood before Sebastian, wiping sweat from his forehead. He dragged a silver suitcase along with him, offering a polite smile.Sebastian's gaze flickered down to the black suitcase at his feet. "Is she in there?""Yes," Trent confirmed, his smile modest. "I've followed your instructions precisely. She's still unconscious after the sedation.""She remained quiet throughout the journey here, but I advise caution when awakening her," Trent continued earnestly. "She's a spirited woman, and if startled, she may react defensively."Sebastian's brow furrowed in skepticism as he cautiously approached the silver suitcase. He carefully assessed the weight of the silver suitcase, noting its resemblance to that of an adult woman. "Are you truly surrending over the woman who fled with you so readily?"Trent's servile smile remained firmly in place. "Yes, without a doubt."Home Categories  Search...  1062/1090  "You've paid a considerable sum for this," Sebastian remarked, his tone tinged with disbelief.Trent's smile widened, revealing a glint of calculation. "I've given it considerable thought. You only require her for one evening, and after today, I won't miss her.""This money could serve as a down payment and renovation fund for our future home," Trent continued, his tone earnest. "Mr. Weiss, you receive what you desire, and I resolve my immediate dilemma. It's a mutually beneficial arrangement!"Sebastian couldn't help but be impressed by Trent's candid and sly nature.Despite his lingering doubts, he couldn't deny the audacity of the man before him.Sebastian scrunched his forehead, quickly glancing at the balance on his phone."Hold on a sec," he muttered before dialing a number. "Transfer the funds to my account.""I'm short by two hundred thousand," he conveyed to the individual on the opposite end of the call."Short of two hundred thousand."After conveying the required details, Sebastian addressed Trent. "Okay, give me your account number," he said, promptly relaying it to the person on the other end of the call.Upon completing the transmission of Trent's account information, the remaining twenty thousand had already been smoothly deposited into Trent's account."You're free to leave now," Sebastian stated, his tone indicating the conversation was over.Trent nodded hastily in response. "Understood," he replied, his departure marked by a slight pause as if he pondered saying more to Sebastian.Ultimately, he decided against it and left without casting a backward glance. As the door clicked shut behind Trent, Sebastian closed his eyes briefly, allowing himself a moment of respite before turning to face the suite's interior, the weight of his actions settling heavily upon him. After a moment, he maneuvered the suitcase into the bedroom, taking care to arrange four or five cameras strategically around the room.Once satisfied with the set-up, he indulged in pouring himself a glass of red wine, then made his way gracefully to the silver suitcase.Upon opening it, Sebastian discovered Trent had spoken the truth.Nested within the suitcase was a woman adorned in a white dress, her slender frame tucked into the limited space, her posture curled and delicate. Her long locks obscured her face, rendering her features indiscernible to Sebastian. However, even in the dim light, he could discern the captivating allure of her silhouette."The beauty queen of Cherise's former high school?" Sebastian mused aloud, a chuckle escaping his lips as he squinted in intrigue. "I'm curious to see just how beautiful she is that her beauty apparently surpasses Cherise's."With a sense of anticipation, Sebastian extended his hand to gently lift the veil of hair obscuring her face.As Sebastian advanced, the woman sprang forth from the darkness of the alley, wielding a surgical knife that gleamed with ominous intent as she positioned it threateningly against the vital artery in his neck."Sebastian," the woman uttered, her voice chillingly calm as her crimson lips formed the three syllables.Sebastian froze in shock at the unexpected turn of events unfolding before him. Before he could think of what actions to take… "Cherise!?" he exclaimed, his disbelief evident in his voice as he recognized the face behind the blade.Upon confirming the woman's identity before him, Sebastian's fear waned, replaced by a sense of defiance. "Haha," he sniggered. "you're spunky, I'll give you that," he remarked, his voice laced with disdain."Do you not recall what happened last time when you dared to bring it to my doorstep yourself?" he challenged."I'm more than willing to help jog your memory," he added, his tone dripping with hostility. With that, Sebastian moved his body in an attempt to overturn the circumstances, intent on asserting his dominance.

Marrying the Man in the Dark Chapter 1063-No Empty Threats Having fully reclaimed her memories, Cherise underwent a profound transformation.

Her gaze narrowed with determination as she delicately poised the surgical knife against Sebastian's carotid artery.

A thin stream of blood trickled from the knife, echoing the sinister grin that crept across her lips. "You're out of options," she said coldly. "So, tell me, what makes you think it's just an idle threat if I push this blade further into your neck?"

Sebastian stood motionless, every muscle in his body tensed with apprehension. He dared not so much as twitch, acutely aware of the knife's edge pressing against his carotid artery.

A faint throbbing sensation pulsed in his neck, a constant reminder of the precarious situation he found himself in. This time, there was no room for doubt. Cherise's resolve was palpable, her demeanor unyielding and devoid of mercy.

Her eyes, once warm and familiar, now glinted with an icy determination that sent a chill down Sebastian's spine. The air around them crackled with tension, thick with the weight of the moment.

  1063/1090  Sebastian's heart hammered in his chest; each beat echoing loudly in the silence of the alley. He knew better than to provoke Cherise further. Her unwavering gaze held him captive, rendering him powerless to do anything but stand there, consumed by a sense of dread.

Sebastian wasn't immune to the fear of death, but in the past, he had been confident in his assessment of Cherise. He believed her to be inherently kind, using threats merely as a means of intimidation rather than genuine intent to cause harm.

However, in that tense moment, a chilling realization washed over him. The aura surrounding Cherise was no longer one of empty threats or bluffs.

Instead, he could feel the palpable menace radiating from her, an unmistakable aura of murderous intent that sent a shiver down his spine.

It was a stark departure from the Cherise he thought he knew, and Sebastian couldn't shake the feeling of dread that settled heavily upon him.

Sebastian's throat tightened as he swallowed nervously, his voice trembling slightly as he spoke. "Cherise, please, calm down."

But Cherise's response was immediate and resolute. "How do you expect me to calm down!" she retorted, her tone sharp with frustration.

Biting her lip, Cherise's icy gaze bore into Sebastian's, her eyes flashing with a mixture of anger and resolve. "I have no desire to resort to violence, even after all the things you've done to me," she declared firmly. "It's easy for me to just vanish from your eyes altogether."

"I won't resort to extreme measures against anyone," Cherise asserted firmly, her voice carrying a note of determination, "as long as you remain incapable of touching me or causing harm."

"But Sebastian, you're forcing my hand," she added, her tone growing more urgent.

"Mandy, Lucy, and Savannah… they mean the world to me," Cherise stressed, her voice trembling with emotion. "I can handle your relentless attacks aimed at me, but I can't stand seeing you hurt my friends!"

"Sebastian, every person has their breaking point," Cherise declared, her voice resounding with conviction.

"And you," she concluded, her words reverberating in the alley, "have none!"

Instinctively, Sebastian took a cautious step backward, his pulse quickening with each beat.

Cherise's knife mirrored his movement, its gleaming blade poised with deadly precision.

As a former surgeon well-versed in the delicate art of wielding a scalpel, Cherise's acute perception didn't miss the calculated nature of Sebastian's retreat. She observed with unwavering focus, noting his attempts to create distance between himself and the razor-sharp edge of her blade.

Yet, despite Sebastian's efforts, the threatening proximity between Cherise's weapon and his vulnerable major artery remained distressingly close.

A chill swept through Sebastian's veins as the full weight of his predicament settled upon him. Fear gripped him tightly, a stark realization of the dire consequences awaiting him in the face of Cherise's unyielding determination.

"Please, Cherise… can't we discuss peacefully?" Sebastian implored, his voice quivering with apprehension as he continued to inch backward, his gaze locked on Cherise's piercing stare.

He believed that seizing the opportunity to snatch the scalpel while Cherise was momentarily distracted with his offer could potentially turn the tables.

With beads of sweat falling from his temples, Sebastian weighed his options with a racing mind.

However, a surge of caution flooded his thoughts. If Cherise had managed to infiltrate the room unnoticed, the likelihood of her being accompanied was high. He contemplated the potential presence of Damien and his vigilant team of bodyguards waiting just beyond the threshold.

Caught in a perilous situation, even if he managed to evade Cherise's threatening blade, there was little chance of escaping unscathed from the individuals lurking outside.

The best route to take crystallized in Sebastian's mind—he had to act swiftly.

Snatch Cherise's knife, use it as leverage, and make an escape!

With determination fueling his movements, he resolved to seize Cherise's knife, using it as leverage to facilitate his escape. This plan seemed to offer the best chance of turning the tide in his favor.

With cautious steps, he continued to retreat, concealing his intentions from Cherise's watchful gaze.

Unbeknownst to Cherise, Sebastian plotted his next move, poised to capitalize on any opportunity that presented itself. Cherise remained focused on maintaining control, unaware of the imminent shift in the balance of power.

In the tense exchange between the advancing Cherise and the retreating Sebastian, the space between them dwindled until Sebastian found himself backed into a corner.

Sensing the urgency of the moment, he knew it was the perfect time to move.

With a sudden surge of determination, Sebastian lunged forward, aiming to snatch the scalpel from Cherise's grasp.

However, to his surprise, Cherise's seemingly clumsy demeanor belied her steady mental composure in the face of such intense pressure.

As Sebastian's hand closed around the handle of the scalpel, Cherise's reflexes kicked in with startling agility. In a swift and deft maneuver, she twisted away, eluding Sebastian's grasp.

In the frantic struggle, Sebastian's aggressive movement inadvertently caused his palm to collide with the razor-sharp blade. A searing pain shot through him as a long, thin wound appeared on his hand, crimson blood welling forth as a testament to his failed attempt.

Sebastian cried out in agony as he clutched his wounded palm, the pain radiating through his body in waves.

Cherise's gaze flickered down to Sebastian's blood that splattered on her hands, torn between two conflicting instincts. Should she maintain her grip on the weapon, or extend a hand to aid Sebastian with his wound?

The weight of this decision bore heavily upon her. The dual nature of her profession as both a healer and a wielder of deadly instruments presented a daunting challenge.

In a cruel twist of fate, the injured individual before her happened to be none other than the despicable Sebastian. Under different circumstances, Cherise would have undoubtedly set aside her personal animosity, allowing her healer's instincts to take precedence as she tended to his wound

Marrying the Man in the Dark Chapter 1064-No More Mercy In a sudden flurry of action, there was a loud bang as the door was forcefully kicked open from the outside, revealing Damien storming into the room alongside Mr. Hampson.

"Are you okay?" Damien's concern was palpable as his eyes immediately fell upon the blood that stained Cherise's hand.

Without a moment's hesitation, he closed the distance between them, pulling Cherise into his protective embrace. With gentle hands, he carefully examined her injured hand; his voice filled with urgency. "Where are you hurt?"

"I'm the one that's hurt, me!" Sebastian's anguished cries echoed through the room as Mr. Hampson restrained him, the desperation evident in his voice.

Clutching his bleeding hand, he continued to lament, "I'm going to die! I'm going to die!"

However, Damien remained unfazed by Sebastian's cries, his attention solely focused on Cherise's well-being. Tuning out the distraught man's pleas, he remained steadfast in his efforts to assess and address Cherise's injuries.

After conducting a thorough examination of Cherise's condition, Damien finally released a relieved sigh. "You're alright," he remarked, his tone filled Home Categories  Search…

  1064/1090  with genuine relief.

Cherise offered a reassuring smile. "I told you, I'm fine," she replied, her voice steady despite the recent turmoil.

When they first obstructed Trent, it was Cherise who proposed the audacious idea of voluntarily hiding in the suitcase, taking on the guise of the sedated Savannah.

However, her proposal was met with staunch opposition from not only Damien but also Mr. Hampson and Steve.

Despite their skepticism, Steve even attempted to contort himself into the cramped confines of the trunk. Yet, his towering six-foot stature made the endeavor a futile one, risking potential injury in the process.

In the end, Steve reluctantly abandoned the idea, acknowledging the impracticality of fitting into such a confined space.

It required considerable effort on Cherise's part to persuade Damien to trust in her ability to protect herself this time around.

She knew she was not incapable of defending herself; rather, her lapse in judgment had allowed Sebastian to deceive her previously.

The evolution of the shy, chubby child who once sat beside her into the cunning figure Sebastian had become was entirely unforeseeable.

Despite Cherise's assurances, Damien's concerns for her safety still troubled him greatly.

While he pretended to search for Gwenn alongside Mr. Hampson inside the hotel, Damien's true focus was on ensuring Cherise's safety outside. His worry was evident in his vigilant demeanor.

When he finally laid eyes on Cherise unharmed, a wave of relief washed over him. "You've improved," he remarked with a hint of satisfaction, finally allowing himself to relax.

Cherise responded with a playful smile, planting a tender kiss on Damien's cheek. "After all, you're Mrs. Lenoir," he teased, "you can't be anything but excellent."

Amidst the tender exchange between Damien and Cherise, Sebastian, still bleeding from his injured hand and held in check by Mr. Hampson, couldn't help but interject. "Can you spare me from seeing you two being lovey-dovey right now? I'm injured here!"

His words drew Damien's attention, prompting him to turn towards Sebastian with a raised eyebrow. Approaching cautiously, Damien's expression shifted to one of fake concern as he carefully inspected the long gash on Sebastian's hand. "You're injured?" he remarked, his tone betraying a hint of mock surprise. "You're bleeding profusely."

Looming menacingly over Sebastian's figure, Damien lifted his hand and applied pressure to the wound, his eyes growing dangerously dark. The blood continued to flow, staining Sebastian's skin and clothes.

Sebastian winced in agony as his injured hand hung limply, the pain evident in his expression.

"I've shown you enough mercy," Damien remarked coldly, his tone firm.

A sly smirk formed on Damien's lips as he then placed his arm protectively around Cherise, drawing her closer. Instructing Mr. Hampson in a low voice, he issued a decisive command, "Escort him back to the police station. We're still looking into his financial misconduct."

Mr. Hampson's brows furrowed with concern. "What about his hand?

Shouldn't we tend to it before taking him?"

Damien's expression remained resolute. "He'll receive a simple bandage at the station," he replied firmly.

"It's just a minor injury," Damien continued, his tone unwavering. "He won't die from it."

A sense of conviction underscored Damien's words as he glanced toward Cherise, his gaze filled with unwavering determination. "Considering what Cherry has endured and what Savannah narrowly escaped from," he added, "he doesn't even have the privilege to complain about the pain."

With that, Damien wrapped an arm around Cherise, guiding her out of the room as they left Sebastian behind.

Cherise's expression was one of confusion as she turned to Damien. "That's it?" she asked, her voice tinged with uncertainty. She had anticipated a more formal resolution to Sebastian's situation later on.

Damien nodded, a faint smile gracing his lips. "That's it," he confirmed. "Our main prey is not Sebastian, after all."

Cherise's expression turned contemplative as they walked out of the room, wondering what the purpose of their visit truly was.

"Some of the members of our team were just instructed by Mr. Hampson to restrain the occupant in room 2101 upstairs," Damien informed her after a short moment of pause.Cherise's expression turned puzzled. "The occupant in room 2101 upstairs?" she inquired, seeking further understanding of the situation.

Marrying the Man in the Dark Chapter 1065-Sisterly Rivalry "Yes."

"It's been a long time, Gwenn Tanner."

Northern Star Hotel, Room 2101.

Gwenn reclined on the couch, legs crossed, casually admiring her delicately painted nails. She glanced at the bodyguard before her with indifference.

"When are my sister and brother-in-law arriving? I've been waiting forever. My plane is still on standby."

She flashed a flirtatious smile at the bodyguard. "Why don't you chat with me a little? I'm so bored!"

The bodyguard remained stoic, unmoved by her attempts at conversation.

Gwenn grew bored of trying to engage the bodyguard and turned her attention back to her phone, idly scrolling through messages. That's when she noticed several video files from her assistant.

A mysterious smile curled her lips as she opened the files to watch. Just then, the door to her hotel room swung open.

  1065/1090  Gwenn glanced up, her eyes locking onto Damien Lenoir, dressed in black, and Cherise Shaw, as elegant as ever. Bathed in sunlight, they seemed perfectly matched, radiating an aura of allure.

Gwenn narrowed her eyes. She despised seeing Cherise like this, standing beside Damien as though she belonged there, shining in her allencompassing charm.

It should have been Gwenn in Cherise's place! As the sole heiress of the Tanner family and Damien's wife!

If it weren't for Cherise meeting Damien first and being the Tanner family heiress, Damien would never have chosen her. It was all Cherise's fault!

The more Gwenn dwelled on it, the more her anger swelled, her disdain for Cherise becoming increasingly evident.

Perhaps Cherise sensed Gwenn's hostility, for her smile faltered slightly.

"Gwenn."

Gwenn was taken aback. After everything Cherise had endured, she still had the nerve to stand before her, speaking with such civility.

"Stop pretending," Gwenn retorted icily. "Stop acting kind and innocent, Cherise Shaw. I know you're the one who wants me dead the most. The one who wishes she didn't have a sister, especially one like me."

It was true that Gwenn had devised schemes against Cherise, but Cherise had retaliated in kind. And Gwenn's schemes had hardly been successful.

Now, watching Cherise feign innocence made Gwenn nauseous, especially as everyone seemed to buy into it despite Cherise's malevolent actions.

"You're right," Cherise acknowledged with a smile, unfazed by Gwenn's hostility. "I wish I didn't have a sister like you. A sister who constantly opposes me and tries to harm me at every turn. I only acknowledged you as my sister out of respect for Father's decision back then."

"But…" Cherise's smile vanished as she fixed Gwenn with a cool gaze. "From today onwards, you are no longer my sister."

"Finally showing your true colors?" Gwenn sneered, rising to her feet. "The Mortis sisters may be foolish and incompetent, but I didn't expect Sebastian Weiss, heir to the Weiss family, to also fall into your hands."

As she spoke, her cold gaze shifted to Damien. "I must admit, you are quite the capable man.

Marrying the Man in the Dark Chapter 1066-Caught in the Web "However, you didn't think I'd just fall into your hands like this, did you?"

Gwenn sneered, casting a cold glance at the couple. "I know you both must think you've trapped me this time, that there's no way out.

"But…" She turned on the TV and projected the videos from her phone onto the screen. "I guess you didn't expect me to have this."

The images displayed on the TV caused Cherise to stiffen instantly. On the screen was a scene of her holding a surgical blade to Sebastian's neck. The footage clearly showed her pressing the blade deeply enough to his skin that a thin streak of blood was flowing down his neck.

This was the scene from downstairs when she emerged from the trunk, trying to take control of Sebastian! The scene had been captured from multiple angles. Eight cameras took high-definition incriminating footage of her holding the blade from eight different perspectives.

Cherise clenched her fists by her sides. She hadn't seen anything from within the trunk and had no idea Sebastian had set up so many hidden cameras.

Damien's eyes narrowed as he grabbed Cherise's hand, a hint of anger flashing across his face. "I didn't expect Sebastian to still collaborate with you after everything that's happened."

  1066/1090  "Of course," Gwenn scoffed, then smiled faintly. She settled back on the couch, lifted her glass of red wine, and took a sip. "These cameras were originally placed to capture Sebastian and Savannah's intimate moments.

"Who would have thought they'd capture a more compelling scene?" She tilted her head towards Cherise and Damien, her eyes filled with resentment.

"What do you think would happen if this video were posted online or sent to the police?

"Damien, you would be separated from your wife once more, this time by bars of steel rather than a case of amnesia."

Damien pursed his lips. "What do you want?"

"Let me go." Gwenn smiled faintly. "That shouldn't be too difficult for you, right? My helicopter is already on the rooftop."

She waved her phone at them. "Release me, and I'll hand this over to you."

Damien gritted his teeth. "You would have made backups."

"Even if I have backups, we can discuss them after I leave. But if you don't let me go…" Gwenn gave them a wide smile before unlocking her phone and dialing 9-9-1. "Then I have an important call to make."

A glint of danger flashed in Damien's eyes. Gwenn was not like Sebastian.

Over the years, she had not only targeted Cherise but also built a strong network of connections and strategies.

Considering her ability to locate Sebastian and exploit him again, Gwenn likely had even stronger allies behind her. After all, both the Lenoir and Tanner families had made significant strides in the business world, with the unfortunate side effect of also accumulating countless enemies along the way.

With Cherise belonging to both families, Gwenn had little trouble finding someone who shared her animosity to aid her. Allowing Gwenn to escape now would make it even harder to track her down later.

On the other hand, Damien couldn't afford the alternative. He focused his gaze on Gwenn's finger hovering over the dial button.

He couldn't risk Cherise spending time in jail—not even for a couple of hours.

He didn't have enough influence in Calais to exert control over the city officials. There was no way for him to guarantee her absolute safety while incarcerated.

"Damien, have you thought about it?" Gwenn lounged gracefully on the couch, her eyes watching him mockingly. "Release me now, and you still have time to change your mind before I reach my destination."

Marrying the Man in the Dark Chapter 1067-7 Unraveling Schemes "And if I don't agree…" Damien let his words trail off as he watched Gwenn.

Gwenn smiled slightly. "Regardless of what really happened, this video is incriminating enough that your dear wife will be immediately arrested the moment I report it.

"This is Calais. Isn't this your first time here? Can your reach extend this far from your home city? I heard the women in jail are all crazy, and there are even—" Gwenn filled in her sentence with a malicious laugh. "Are you willing to let your dear Cherry be bullied by those female psychos?"

Damien flexed his jaw as he silently watched Gwenn like a hawk.

Cherise bit her lip and reached out for Damien's hand. "It's okay."

All Cherise did was threaten Sebastian. She hadn't actually hurt him. Even if Gwenn had called the police, she wouldn't have been in that much trouble. At the most, she would be locked up in jail for a while, and she was not so delicate that she couldn't deal with that.

Of course, Cherise could handle it!

  1067/1090  Damien tightly pressed his lips together, tightening his grip on Cherise's hand.

"Aren't you afraid?"

"Not at all." Cherise gave him a serene smile and shook her head. "With you here, I'm not afraid of anything."

Hearing Cherise made Gwenn's eyes flare up with resentment.

Why?! Gwenn thought to herself. Why does Cherise Shaw get to have such a perfect man like Damien Lenoir?

On the other hand, Gwenn had to bear with that capricious Evan Tanner just to keep being called the young miss of the Tanner family.

If it weren't for Cherise, Gwenn could also have the perfect man and the perfect marriage.

It was all Cherise's fault!

If she hadn't shown up, if she hadn't turned out to be the long-lost daughter of the Tanner family, then Gwenn wouldn't have had to sacrifice so much to keep everything she had.

As Gwenn dwelled on this matter, her anger surged uncontrollably. She clenched her jaw, her words barely escaping as she said, "Damien, tell me your decision now or I—"

"Can you even make a call on your phone?" Damien calmly interrupted her.

Gwenn frowned, surreptitiously glancing at her phone.

There was no signal. Her phone was now in a state where she couldn't even make an emergency call.

Damien left Gwenn speechless with a sneer, guiding Cherise out the room door.

Outside the door, several bodyguards were holding onto Gwenn's assistant.

"Sir, we discovered this suspicious person sneaking into Sebastian Weiss's room, so as per your instructions, we detained him after he took the storage card from the camera. He has confessed to all of Gwenn Tanner's plans.

We've also asked the butler to block all signal transmissions from here and sent away the helicopter that was on the roof."

There was a loud snapping sound as the phone in Gwenn Tanner's hand fell to the ground.

How is this possible? Many thoughts raced through Gwenn's mind.

Her plan should have been foolproof. How did it all come to this?

"Cherry may not be able to notice the hidden pinhole cameras in the room, but my bodyguards can." Damien Lenoir looked at Gwenn Tanner coldly, "Sebastian didn't hide those things particularly well.

"Don't you think I wouldn't have guessed what they captured when I found out there were cameras in that bedroom?"

Gwenn appeared a little shell-shocked. She hadn't expected things to develop like this. She thought she had everything under control. She hadn't expected to be overcome like this.

"Cherise, I wouldn't have lost." Gwenn laughed out loud as her whole body sank weakly onto the sofa. "I, Gwenn Tanner, would never have lost to the likes of you. If you hadn't had Damien Lenoir by your side.

Marrying the Man in the Dark Chapter 1068-Revelations and Resentments "Cherise, aren't you clever, finding a man who can always protect and guard you but," Gwenn raised her gaze, glaring coldly at Cherise and Damien. "Do you really think she's an innocent little bunny?"

As Gwenn spoke, she rolled up her sleeves and pant legs, revealing the many ugly scars on her arms and legs. "Cherise Shaw, these are all caused by you!"

She pointed to the long scar on her leg, "This was from five years ago when you sent a car to hit me. That accident almost took my life!"

Her eyes brimmed with intense hatred, "Yet when Dad asked me to attend Charisa's funeral, I went. Although I dislike you, I had no intention of harming you back then, especially considering you had just lost someone close to you.

"But what did you do? You arranged for the car to take me back to be caught in an accident and almost killed me!"

Cherise frowned. "I wasn't responsible for that."

When Charisa died, Cherise was so caught up in her grief that she almost lost her baby. How could she have the time and interest to harm Gwenn?

  1068/1090  "You don't need to pretend anymore!" Gwenn Tanner sneered. "If I didn't have concrete evidence, I wouldn't have accused you of it."

Gwenn stared at Cherise's face. "Since that day, I realized that only one of us could stay in the Tanner family. And you, being the biological daughter and the sole heiress, are the pride of Grandpa and Father. Meanwhile, I'm not the same. I'm not blood-related, nor am I the heir. Since your return, Grandpa hasn't deigned to spare me a glance!"

Gwenn grew angrier as she spoke, finally pouring out all her grievances collected over the years. She pointed an accusing finger at Cherise, her voice trembling. "I've tried so hard to please the Tanner family, but the moment you returned, I became invisible. Yet you think that I'm the obstacle in your way, always trying to get rid of me!

"Of course, I did everything I could to survive. I found Evan Tanner, found other connections to back me up, all to get rid of you!"

Cherise drew her lips into a tight curve as she heard Gwenn speaking out her grievances for the first time. She had always avoided conflicts with Gwenn and didn't want to compete with her for anything.

Yet she never expected Gwenn to misunderstand her so deeply.

Cherise took a deep breath. "I think you must have misunderstood. I didn't—"

"You didn't what?" Gwenn Tanner sneered, revealing the other scars on her body. "This was from being attacked in my room.

"I got this courtesy of a stabbing in the hospital.

"This I got from…" Gwenn continued recounting the origin of each and every scar on her body, "I already looked into it. Most of the assassins were raised by the Tanner family. Who else but you could command the Tanner family's assassins?"

Cherise stood frozen in place. Did the Tanner family actually raise

assassins?

She truly hadn't known that such a thing happened. "It really wasn't me."

Cherise tightened her lips into a tight seam. She wanted to figure out what Gwenn meant by the assassins, but Gwenn regarded her with contempt.

"To the victor belong the spoils. With Damien Lenoir's help, you've won in the end. If it wasn't you, who else could it be?" With a bitter smile, Gwenn added, "Don't think that just because you got me this time, you'll have nothing to worry about in the future.

"In this world, there's more than one person waiting to see what will happen between you and Damien." An arrogant smirk settled on Gwenn's face, radiating a palpable air of superiority despite her seeming defeat. "Damien, surely you've known this for a long time, right?"

Marrying the Man in the Dark Chapter 1069-Unraveling the Shadows Damien's gaze remained cold as he said nothing. He had, in fact, harbored suspicions about this for some time now. It seemed implausible that Gwenn could have amassed such extensive information about Cherise's past and wielded it to her advantage with such precision on her own. Especially regarding what happened with Alexis—Cherise hadn't even disclosed it to him, yet Gwenn seemed privy to the details.

The resources and intelligence Gwenn had at her disposal couldn't solely stem from her status as an adopted member of the Tanner family. There must be a strong network of connections behind her, with potentially even more formidable adversaries lurking in the shadows.

"So, I have no reason to fear or fret," Gwenn declared, before sinking into the sofa. "When will the police arrive?"

"Soon," Damien Lenoir replied tersely.

She offered a bitter smile, keeping her lips sealed.

Before long, the butler ushered in the police. Sebastian was suspected of orchestrating Savannah's abduction, and as the mastermind, Gwenn wouldn't be able to evade repercussions either.

  1069/1090  "Mr. Lenoir, rest assured, I'll deploy more people to monitor these three!"

Such heinous incidents were rare in a quaint city like Calais, hence the police's serious demeanor.

"We will ensure the law is upheld impartially!"

Damien nodded subtly, then turned to grasp Cherise's hand, observing as the police escorted Gwenn, Sebastian, and Trent into the police car.

Despite overcoming a significant obstacle, Cherise felt no joy. She pondered aloud, "Honey, who do you think is behind Gwenn? Is what she said true? Did the Tanner family really train assassins… and send them after Gwenn Tanner under my name?"

Damien furrowed his brow slightly, pulling her into his embrace. "We will have to ask Grandpa Tanner to clarify the situation."

Cherise's eyes widened in shock as she swiveled around to look at him. "You don't think… it was Grandpa?"

"Pure conjecture," Damien replied, playfully tweaking her nose. "Although you're the sole heiress of the Tanner family, you've never been one to meddle in family affairs or exert control over the Tanner family. Whoever wields authority over their assassins must hold significant power within the family.

Your father is compassionate and has always shown Gwenn great affection, so it's unlikely to be him."

Cherise forced a tight smile. Her heart weighed down with sorrow. "Then it must be Grandpa. But why would he do such a thing?" She cast her gaze downward, feeling a pang of sadness.

Cherise thought Grandpa could have done it—sent an assassin after Gwenn —for her sake. However, she would never have condoned it, nor did she ever regard Gwenn Tanner as an adversary.

Dad had raised Gwenn as his own daughter for over two decades. Such ties weren't easily broken. Understanding and respecting Dad's choices, Cherise had always strived to avoid conflict with Gwenn. Yet it seemed others were intent on doing so on her behalf.

"We should go find Steve," Damien suggested. Sensing Cherise's turmoil, Damien's heart ached for her as he gently smoothed back her hair. "Don't you want to see Savannah?"

Cherise snapped back to the present. "Of course I do!"

She had so much to share with Savannah and countless questions to ask.

Amidst her memory loss and Savannah's sudden departure following the wedding, they hadn't exchanged a single word in almost eight years before being separated once more.

"You're here.""Yeah," Cherise replied, moving to sit gently beside her friend. "Are you okay?""I'm... okay." Savannah choked on her words.
