“Grandma, don’t say that,” Serenity replied gently. “We don’t like hearing it. You said yourself that you want to live to be a hundred—just like Grandpa Fei.”

The old lady laughed. “I’ll do my best. But outcomes aren’t something we get to decide. I’m already ninety. Even if I were to pass tomorrow, I’d have lived long enough. I’ve had more than my share of blessings.”

“I have a great-granddaughter now, and seven great-grandsons. Nine grandsons in total. Only the ninth one is still single. I’m not worried about him—just keep an eye on him for me.”

Serenity protested softly, “Grandma, I really don’t like talking about things like that. Let’s change the subject.”

“Alright, alright,” the old lady said indulgently. “We won’t talk about it anymore.”
