Joaquin said, “Mr. York, could we talk outside? I’d like to invite you to the coffee shop on the corner.”

Alex looked helpless as he stood up. He turned to Aitana. “Looks like I won’t get to drink your tea tonight. I’ll have it another day when I have time.
Mr. Legare, let’s go—you’re treating me to coffee.”

Joaquin nodded politely to Aunt Pollock, then cast a deep look at Aitana before following Alex out. He had driven as well, so the two men headed separately to the coffee shop.

Aunt Pollock and Aitana stepped outside, watching the two cars pull away. Aunt Pollock said, “They’re going to a coffee shop. At most they’ll exchange a few words—they won’t fight.”

“Neither Senior Joaquin nor Alex is the type to start a fight,” Aitana agreed. That wasn’t what worried her.
