Back at the Pollock family clinic, the main door was closed, though the lights inside were still on.

Aitana said to Alex, “My second uncle and aunt are probably having dinner upstairs. They’ll come down and reopen the clinic once they finish, but we usually don’t get many patients at night.”

Evenings were always easier than the busy daytime hours.

Aitana got out of the car, unlocked the clinic door, and turned to Alex as he stepped out. “It’s still early. Come in and have a cup of tea.”

“That’s exactly what I was thinking.”

Alex helped carry the gifts he had brought from the car.
