Alex nodded. “That’s true. But now that my eldest brother and sister-in-law have a daughter, Grandma finally has a great-granddaughter. She’s so happy now. Before that, whenever she saw someone else’s little girl, she’d joke about wanting to take her home.”

He chuckled at the memory.

“Especially Ben’s daughter—Avah. Every time Grandma visited FC Manor, she’d try to ‘kidnap’ her back to Wildridge Manor. It drove Old Madam Johnson crazy. She used to scold Grandma for trying to steal her granddaughter.”

A soft sigh escaped Alex’s lips. “After Grandma Johnson passed away, my grandma stopped visiting FC Manor. I think it just reminded her too much of everything—and everyone—she’s lost.”
