Mr. Legare leaned back on the sofa with a satisfied smile. “We’ll stay home. Going out always ends up costing money anyway. Look at all the things you and Joaquin bought for us this morning—every time we visit, you both spoil us.”

Though most of the purchases were made by their son, Yehua had also quietly bought a few things herself.

Mrs. Legare turned toward Joaquin. “Joaquin, your clinic’s closed today, right? You should take Yehua out this afternoon. You two are always stuck at the clinic—you deserve a little break.”

Yehua looked at Joaquin, eyes full of hope. Even a simple outing with him would make her day. She didn’t need much—just time by his side.

Joaquin paused for a moment, unsure. “I don’t really know where to go,” he said finally. “Yuehua, do you have somewhere in mind?”

Her face brightened instantly. “How about the beach? I haven’t been in ages. I want to feel the sea breeze, walk along the sand, and eat some fresh seafood. I really love seafood.”
